Have you heard of the Draw a Scientist study?

*giggle* Math people :)

Noether's theorem (every symmetry implies a conserved quantity) is one of the most wonderful theorems in mathematics and physics! Emmy Noether is one of my heroes!

You made me laugh. He already knows the answer so he doesn't need to look at the data :)
I had not heard of this, but it is interesting. I'm terrible with names and a terrible drawer, but I still think it is cool!

It seems to be all over my world in the past three days.

At the Maker Fair in Nashville today, they had a Draw a Scientist station;

At the Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory Open House (that I missed today because I was in Nashville) they were running a continuous stream of images of their women scientists, inspired by the Draw a Scientist data;

One of the speakers I heard at NCTM this past week brought up the results of asking kids to draw mathematicians;

A second speaker asked us to write down the names of two famous mathematicians, and then chastised us "but how many of you wrote the name of a woman or a person of color?" One table full of women shot up their hands, but he had his back to them and he wasn't really looking for an answer. Then he said he never finds anyone for whom BOTH names were a woman or a person of color. Well, I wrote Emmy Noether and Ramanujan, but he still thinks he hasn't found anyone because he didn't actually check what names we wrote, and I sat there thinking that I wouldn't be drawing HIS figure as an example of a non-white-male scientist either because he clearly isn't interested in the evidence.
