Alison, glad you got out and walked about. Also good to hear the snow is melting.
Oh, yes, I do hope the knee is better after the chemo is finished although it may take a few weeks from what I have read.

I went in for bloodwork this morning the lab had a note on the door. We were to sign in with our cell phone numbers and wait in our cars. One of the nurses actually came out to my car. I went in by myself except for the staff. When I left the next person was called in. This lab as places all over Guam and this is how they handled keeping us isolated.

I have been on fb and made some calls but otherwise stuck close to the house. Walking hurts to much to do much of that.

I go in for chemo in the morning.

Stay safe everyone.

Jane

I agree with you about the healing power of sun and fresh air. It is still very cold here, but it did get up over 40į today Fahrenheit. So the snow is melting which is good. The streets are still a little icy for me to walk on them.

It sounds as though there is a good chance you will be more comfortable when the chemo is finished, Jane.

Hugs and stay well!

Alison, the knee hurting as much as it has is new since chemo this time. Hopefully it will get better when the chemo is finished.

Some reading I did and sounded really good is get outside in the sun and fresh air as it will help kill bacteria and viruses. Just going out and sitting in a park, carport, porch or taking a walk around the house would be good for us.

It sounds like Guam is taking reasonable precautions. Oregon increased their precautions today; restaurants and bars are closed, except for takeout food. I think it is important to be careful and limit the spread of the coronavirus as much as possible.

I am sorry that your knee is hurting, Jane. Are you considering a knee replacement? My doctor has recommended the surgery for me, but I am avoiding it for as long as I can. I can still hike up to 5 miles even though he says I have no cartilage left due to arthritis. I have been doing cortisone injections every six months or so. They help me a lot.

Alison, glad you got to the library before it closed. Sounds like you will have plenty to do and I am sure you will be out walking.

Sunday our governor confirmed that Guam has three cases of COVID-19 so we are going into lockdown. Today was a Teacher/Staff Development day and starting tomorrow the schools are closed for 14 days.
The main supermarket, which has several stores, here is closing from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. so it can restock and clean. Three of the stores will be open for senior citizens from 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. Not sure if I will make use of that.
Many of other places are closed. The bases are another matter. The DEODA schools are staying open but at least one of the commissaries have closed.
I went and got some groceries this morning and do not expect to go back for some time. I may get tired of what I am eating but such is life.
My knee has been really hurting so walking has really been cut back. I will walk the cul-da-sac when it is better but I am isolating myself as much as possible.
The Monday lunchers had only two today. I was not one of them. The Tuesday lunchers will not be getting together tomorrow and we will see about next week. We may meet at a park near the ocean just to get out for awhile.

Stay well and safe everyone.

Jane, glad your son has guaranteed hours. I hope your chemo went well.

Everything is closed down here. Most churches are doing video services. Schools are closed. Bachelor closed, the library closed, the community center closed, the gyms are closed. People are taking the virus very seriously, and there is a lot of panic grocery shopping and hoarding going on.

There are three cases here, but the hospital is well prepared. They have already put up tents to house overflow patients.

Iím glad I got to the library before they closed. And that I can entertain myself reasonably well, by playing guitar, painting watercolors, reading, and social media.

Stay safe, everyone, and stay well!

Alison, my son is assured 70 hours of work time, regardless. Lots of attendants will be trying to pick up flights and yes he can bidÖ Next month he can bid for wherever he wants and probably will.

I have chemo tomorrow. Hope I can hold it in the bladder for the two hours the doctor wants. My church family will be praying for me tomorrow morning and that is comforting.
I got groceries today and got a lot of frozen things that I can make soups/stews with if I need to stay in and away from others.
They are now saying when, not if the virus will come to Guam. Contingency plans are being made for it.

Take care everyone.

Here the grocery stores are crammed with people buying supplies in order to prepare for a possible outbreak of corona virus. I donít think itís wrong to have extra supplies in your home! But I am more likely to use them if I become sick with the flu or the common cold. One Oregon school is closed because a teacher got corona virus.

Jane, will your son be able to continue flying to other destinations?

Shelley, both the first Robins and your daughters getting free from an abusive relationship are real causes for celebration! The signs of spring here are massive amounts of Juniper Tree pollen, ah-choo!

My flight attendant son had bid for Nariata and now will not be flying there as of March 8th, because United is stopping most of the flights because of the coronavirus.

Many restaurants here are not opening for lunch. Those who are open have few customers. United has not changed any of the flights to Japan from Guam but that may change. Korean flights are almost non extant.

Alison, from what I understand there is another clinic that has a doctor that does chemo. At this time I am willing to wait for the one I have been seeing. I have not heard from his clinic so far this week so I hope he is back to work.

I am doing okay so far.

How frequently do you have to do the chemo?

Iím leaving tomorrow for a short vacation in the Ochoco mountains, sharing an old Forest Service cabin with friends. We plan to go snowshoeing, or hiking if there is no snow.

I am not sure how long the chemo will last. Apparently I was allergic to the chemo I had a over year ago. If no new polyps had appeared I would not be facing something new now. I do hope to be able to travel this summer and in the past my doctors have been very supportive of my traveling.

I finally got the Crown Plant, which is a relative of the Milk Weed, back into my yard so I have the Monarch butterfly and others because they like the nectar of the Crown Plant flower. It is fun to watch the growth of the caterpillar into the chrysalis and finally the butterfly.

Yes I do cross country skiing, which is also called Nordic skiing. It is a lot of fun, and a good workout.

How long will you have to have chemo, Jane? I know there is a huge variety in the various chemo drugs, frequency of treatment, and length of treatment. Overall, many of my friends have had huge success. But the process isnít a lot of fun, even though They can control the side effects pretty well.

I'm glad you are slowly healing, Jane. I'll keep praying for your full recovery and health.

I love skiing at the Methow Valley because I can still do it. My arthritic knees give me trouble when I ski on steeper slopes; and I need those knees in order to turn or slow down or stop. The area we go to has lots of gentle meadow trails that are very beautiful, with really easy hills. Right now it is raining there, so who knows what the trails will be like.

I am better. It has been a slow process. I still have a cold sore on my lip that is slow in healing.

Skiing sounds fun. I have water skied but not snow skied. With my balance issues I will not even try it now. Walking with snow shoes can be a challenge. Have fun!

Jane, how are you doing? Are you gradually healing?

We are having cool rainy weather. It is much warmer than usual, but at least we got a good snow pack on the mountains before the weather warmed up.

I'll leave for my annual ski trip to the Methow Valley in Washington next week. I'm not sure what the snow will be like. I'm taking my snow shoes just in case it is slushy or icy.

Alison, glad you had a good day.

I made it to lunch with the Tuesday Lunch Bunch today. I came home and just made it to the toilet with loose bowels. I am so glad I got home in time.
I am feeling better so I think the healing is taking place.
We are having a haze from, I think, the volcanic eruption near Manila last week. It feels like it will rain but when I look at the sky it is not a rain atmosphere. I do not think it will cause problems breathing but again I have not been outside much. They have not put out a warning about staying inside.

I ended up not going to church on Sunday and have not done much today. It is taking longer to heal this time. I think partially because there were two polyps that were closer to the urethra and I am two years older than the last time. Although it is MLK day today the urologist office called and checked how I was doing. That made me feel better about what is going on.

I do plan to have lunch with my Tuesday Lunch Bunch because the bathroom is close by but missed the lunch today as the bathroom is quite a hike.

I've been home a week but the 3 hour time difference is bothering me. I usually adjust quicker. I looked through your post and illness raised some issues. One being are you covered, another transport home from hospital. We do have an excellent scheme in Australia but still surprises about items not covered. Glad to read you are all recovering. As you may have read we have lots of fires and smoke. I haven't been in a fire fore more than 10 years thanks and had forgotten just how bad it could be. Wishing everyone a prosperous new year and year of the rat too.

Shelley, congratulations on losing weight and swimming. It is a great exercise and so good for your health.

I went to a fitness class at our local senior class, it was a lot of fun. But I canít wait until they open a pool there. The remodeled facility with warm pool is supposed to open in May. It has been snowing off and on all day. I am about ready for a break in the storm!

I agree, helpful neighbors are a blessing.

I had the surgery but because of the location of the polyps I could not urinate afterwards so a catheter was put in overnight. No fun.

I got a call from the urologist office this afternoon. My medical claims have been denied by Aetna Insurance because they say I have another insurance that should be claimed first. I do not have medicare because that Gov Guam would not allow us to pay for SS! So now everything needs to be clearified. What is a blessing is the young man who is the manager for the Aetna office here knows my son and was raised in Yigo! He put one of his people on it and I think all is well! One advantage of living on a small island!

I hope your surgery goes well, Jane.

I went out to shovel the snow off my driveway, and one of my neighbors came over and did the whole thing with his bobcat snow plow. What nice neighbors I have!

I am sorry to hear about Mt. Hood!

Toe is healing fine.
The urologist changed the time of the surgery from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. I had to call my son about the change because he will be taking me home as I will not be allowed to drive until Thursday.

Glad you are feeling better. Getting the flu is not fun.

I hope your toe gets better soon! Today is the first day that I feel recovered from the cold virus. It is still snowing off and on. The skiers here are doing a happy dance. But the Mt Hood Highway was closed due to storm damage (big overhead signs and trees knocked over)

Oh, that does not sound good.

It is Kirsten's birthday this week and she spent the day on Mt. Baker, skying. She did not mention a storm.

The joint on my big toe decided to act up yesterday and after taking care of things that I really had to do I stayed home today with my foot elevated most of the time.

Glad you have something to read. Sorry you are sick.

How is the weather?

We are in the dry season here so my plants are drying out but this evening it is raining. One plant has not gotten much rain because of where the wind is coming from and the carport is in the way.

Yes, I do want to travel and see the fall colors. That would mean two trips stateside.

We will see what happens.

Jane I hope you can come to the US too! Are you still thinking of the fall colors on the east coast?

I'll be traveling for the next week to visit family. Not sure if I will be able to visit SparkPeople while out of town.

I saw the cancer doctor today and the polyps will be removed and then a different chemo will be used because I am allergic to the one used before.

Thank you Allison.

The UTI was clear. I am going to have to make some major decisions soon about what to do from what the urologist found in my bladder. There are two tiny polyps near the mouth of the urethra. I will see the cancer doctor tomorrow and discuss the results with him and then need to make decision of having the polyps removed, chemo, or polyps removed and chemo. I have had two polyps removed in the past so I have an idea of what to expect. Definite time of prayer.

Jane I hope your UTI was cleared up. And if not, it makes sense to cancel the tests.

YAY! Yes I stuck to my plan!

Hope you stuck to your guns, Alison.

I was up and out of the house very early for the lab. I called the urology clinic this afternoon asking about the results because if I still have a UTI I would like to cancel the follow up appointment with the cancer doctor because the urologist will not do the procedure and I do not want to do labs on Wednesday that will not be used.
