My little guy LOVES to please. He doesn't really respond to treats as rewards. He prefers praise and play. I find that he's more open to new tricks when he's well exercised. I bought a hands-free waste harness and he goes for short 3-5mile runs with me. He also LOVES to swim and play fetch in the water. The current trick we are working on is turning a lightswitch on and off. I just thought it would be a fun party trick lol.

My training dilemma with him is that he is terrified on hardwood or tile floors. I even try bribing with "high-value" treats and he shakes and cries. It's pitiful. Any tips would be awesome!

They are "their own dog", that's for sure. I can be pretty stubborn too but I like to think of it as "tenacious"... that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I'm about half way through reading "So Your Dog's Not Lassie – Tips for Training Difficult Dogs and Independent Breeds". I'll start trying some of the suggestions to see if I can motivate my dog "Mongo" for more productive training sessions.
