Out early today to get pedicures and drop dogs off for grooming. Pete enjoys the leg massage as well as the pedicure — this place caters to both men and women. We’ve decided to keep the dogs’ hair clipped to about an inch. Maybe I should watch a YouTube video or take a class to learn how to do it, lol.

Eileen, RV still has a couple of issues but nothing to stop us from leaving for a week or so in March. Of course we’ve been having lovely weather while stuck at home — it’ll probably rain and storm much of March emoticon

WG, one of our year old puppies is quite the chewer, and no matter how many chew toys and distractions, finds things she shouldn’t. Exasperating! They both bark loudly whenever anyone comes to the front or back door, hard for someone to sneak in. Other times we discourage barking, but not then.

Annie, very sorry you’ve been sick, and wishing your uncle well. Distressing to hear your dog got kennel cough even after being vaccinated — was hoping the shots would protect our two.

Sharon, I like the description of the faucets that light up, and the new porcelain sink. We tried a couple of methods of sticking a light over the RV shower, but none lasted. Be interesting to see if the light rope helps you.

We have a gift card for the movie theater so will go see Harrison Ford in The Call of the Wild Friday. If the movie stays true to Jack London’s story, I’ll be happy, and rooting for the dog. emoticon

HI Everyone. It's unseasonably cold today and I can feel it. It is most fun at 6 am when I'm taking the dog potty in my nightgown and coat. That is chilly. He made it 9 hours last night. I keep my dogs confined at night so I know they and my house are safe until I know them better and know what kind of mischief they will get into. This puppy is chewing my furniture and rugs as well as anything else he can get his teeth on. His favorite right now is chewing the dining room chairs. I'm not impressed. I'll crate him at night until he is over his baby chewing thing. The ultimate goal is to give the dog freedom to wander the house and be my companion. It is hard if he lives in his crate.

Sharon, it sounds like a great faucet. I love the idea. There are a lot of fun things that exist now and I love finding ones that fit into my life. It would be great also to see your hands as you clean them. Is he still running the LED lights around the ceiling?

Annie, hope your uncle does well. It is a hard surgery and if he is elderly, it takes a while to recover. For many, they take up to a year to feel great again. Of course, every week is a relative improvement so he will feel better soon.

Off to pick up Miss M. Have a great day.

Very windy today, overcast and cold! Only 53. Anything under 60 keeps me inside and with the wind, it's not nice!

Norm is (as usual) doing a great job with the bathroom. The sink is in and so are the new faucets and I love them both. I don't know how it works as it's not electric or battery charged but when you turn the faucet on, an LED lights comes on so you can see in the middle of the night. The flow of the water turns it on - strange, but wonderful! This afternoon he will finish it up with the trim. Then it will be my turn to clean and reorganize every thing out of the cupboards.

I worried about Norm's hip with all the up and down and crawling around on the floor. I helped as much as I could. He seems to be doing OK.

My sisters first chemo treatment went well. When I talked to her last night she was tired but thought more from stress than the treatment. The fatigue from the chemo will hit later.

Heather - at least Alex had to repair his own flooding. Poor Norm! This is the second time I have flooded our MH. I was outside when he yelled SHARON KAY. I knew it was my fault but he didn't get mad. For that I am relieved.

WG - sounds like the puppy is settling in nicely. I can see where he is distracted when the kids are there. It will work out eventually. Owning a dog requires cleaning up after them. The other day we came home to Nala having upchucked. That's what started the whole bathroom flooding.

Eileen - I hope all the work pays off with the sale. It's bad that it's the same time Mindy is here. I'm sure you'd rather spend time with Mindy, even if it's just watching TV or talking together.

Annie - glad to see your post but sorry for all you have been dealing with. Your Uncle was lucky they could repair his bowel obstruction. They immediately thought Ron was sick from his cancer or the treatment. By the time they found out he had a twisted bowel, he was too weak to make it through the surgery to correct it. He passed within 24 hr later. So sad as if they had know earlier, he might be alive yet today. I see you do Body Groove. I love Misti Tripoli and use her Young at Heart often. It's just fun to pop it in and dance a little!

Wow I have been off for awhile. Rough week for me also. My Uncle is in ICU and thank God proved the Dr’s wrong. Bowel obstruction, they did surgery and he is getting better. Should step down to TCU over the weekend. I was sick with a stomach virus, I lost 12 lbs but not the good way. Had to take dog to the vet today because she has kennel cough. While there, getting on the scale she tore a toenail off. My DD dog has had the cough for 3 weeks which is where she got it. Bininington has had the vaccine and the flu vaccine, so how did he get it in the first place? Lots of stress on my body.

Sharon Sorry to hear about your brother in law and your sister. Prayers for your family.

I have never had to put my dogs in a crate. Imagine they would cry also. Now my cats I can get theirs out and they run to get into it.

I Cannot imagine flooding my camper. I would be devastated, but I would like the new sink!

I love Richard Simmons! Don’t have anymore, as now I am into Zumba and Body Groove. Waiting on the weather to clear to get out on the bike or trails.

Sorry that I have not replied to all posts but I do think of all of you.

Heading to bed,

Good night all

Had a busy Weds. Spent a little time with Mindy then dad took her to the flea market and I went to work at church. My, what a mess! Spent until 5 PM and I think I got all the linens sorted and organized as well as priced. Didn't want to spend so much time there today but the sale is Friday and I have to be there on Thurs. afternoon as all the foods are to come in, I hope. I don't think I will be chatting until after the weekend. I will hope to be able to catch up.

We thought we were to get rain today but as usual, it didn't show up. Now tomorrow it's to be a 90% chance of rain. We will see.

Roger fixed our meal tonight and we again hauled it over to mom's. I was too tired to even stand to make it. I didn't eat a thing for lunch. Will have to fix something to take tomorrow.

Read all the posts and now off to do the points. Glad the rig is back Marianne and that Norm is getting the BR fixed up. Good time to replace things.

Hi everyone. It is cold here today. It has been sunny, but miserable.

It's interesting hearing about everyone's plans. When mom died, I knew I need to do a trust and get things in one so there isn't a problem transferring. I thought my son could help me but it isn't going to happen with him so I'll need to get someone else. The stuff had to be in an irrevocable trust for 5 years back then. It's probably more now to keep it safe from the government.

I don't have a lot so it shouldn't be a big deal. Some things I've got kids names on and we have discussed some of my wishes. I choose not to be a DNR (do not resuscitate) because I know of doctors and nurses who will see that and decide that the patient wants no efforts at all to preserve life. I believe there is a difference and don't want my kids to have to fight it. They know my wishes and the ones who will respect them have the medical power of attorney.

I know it seems silly given my background but there are some things I have learned that make some decisions that we are supposed to make be difficult.

Dog is doing better. He still has an accident every afternoon when the kids are here. I think he gets distracted and has a hard time asking to go out. We'll see how he does this weekend when the house is quiet.

All this talk of flooding problems makes me glad I have not got a travel vehicle. It sounds miserable.

Gotta go and get some dinner going. I've been having fun with my air fryer.

Have a great day.

Sharon....
You are lucky with your countertop. Way back with our first small trailer when we went to Nashville....Alex turned on the water in the bathroom sink ....went out to close the valves...got talking...and flooded the floor with about 2 inches of water. Because the trailer was only 18 foot.....the water went over the whole trailer flooring.
It was a big job for Alex to replace it....but he is like Norm and always comes up with great fixes.
( that trailer was so small there was little I could do to help him...it was * room for one * only) emoticon

Sending lots of good vibes to your sister emoticon emoticon

OK - here's my daily recap!

We did a Sweatin' To The Oldies at exercise class. Much longer workout and twice the steps on our FitBits so I think we are switching to Richard Simmons.

Came home to Norm continuing to work on the countertop. He has been able to save it but he decided that while everything is torn apart we should replace the sink and faucets. So we made a run to Lowe's and the rest of the day has been spent working in the bathroom. We switched from the cheap sink that came with it and now we will have a nice bigger, deeper porcelain sink with an overflow (smart idea!) hole.

Today my sister had her first chemo treatment for her Ovarian cancer. I'm going to call her shortly to see how it went.

Tonight is Bingo so gotta run - chat more later!

Eileen, sounds like a good time with Mindy. emoticon
South Padre Island is still on my bucket list.

Sharon, oops, I’ve left water running in the RV too. Fortunately no real damage — hope Norm can save the counter.

TC, I’m assuming you’re off work until at least after the MRI. emoticon

This morning we took the dogs for a long sunny walk and then loaded the RV with all the stuff we’d taken out in the last three months. Gave us a chance to de-clutter and reorganize. Of course Pete found another problem, the RV satellite dish won’t unfold from the roof. emoticon I could live without it but not Pete, he has to have his Direct TV. I asked him to wait until next month to schedule another repair appointment. Frustrating to say the least.

Spent the afternoon at SPI. Temp was really nice. The water was not as cool as we had been lead to believe. Enjoyed a few hits of the waves, some really big. Mindy has a co-worker, friend vacationing at SPi so ate at Louis Backyard and they had a good visit. Drive back was a little after rush hour and got home as the sun set. Fun and relaxing day. And boy do my feet hurt tonight! I found a grilled fish and shrimp to eat whereas everyone else had the shrimp baskets. Mine was quite good but only 3 shrimp and one fillet.

Heather, you might as well allow food at the memorial as you will be getting all kinds of food at the house. At least that's what happens up in MN. ;-) Here, when we have a memorial, it's cakes, pies and cookies. Sometimes the entire family comes and other times it's 1 or 2. We put all our things in a trust for the kids to have it easy. We really didn't need one now but with a farm involved and when we inherit from mom, we will be needing some security in knowing the gov't won't be getting it. We are to celebrate our "deaths" with fun and music from the 50's and 60's. Not a morbid thing.

Ruthann, the funeral home my mom will go to takes all the info and helps to get it all organized and forms ready for the family. It's amazing how many proof of death certificates one needs. I remember all this from dad's funeral. Lot of work after as well. I hope the mobile sells quickly. This park can't even get them on the board before they are sold. Word of mouth really goes rapidly around and that includes visitors.

Sharon, so sorry about the water. Roger did that once and it was the flusher for the black tank. What a mess!! At least it had cleared most before coming up! We are to get the old weather and rain. Now we will believe the rain part when we see it. We haven't had rain for a couple months and they keep predicting it a couple times a week. BUT it didn't need to happen with Mindy's visit. We tried to cram in a lot these first 2 days and neglected the church even though the sale begins Fri. Today it hit 90 here and 71 on the beach at SPI.

WG, we have had a kennel/crate for all our dogs and they adapted quickly to it. Both our ones we have/had would wait for the other to get out and run right in. We only travel with 1 so the other kennel stays in MN. Now we will leave this one here in TX. Good luck. Good to have the crate at your bedside as they do get lonely and think you are leaving them.

TC, I hope all the therapy you are doing will help you out with the pain and keep you going.

Time to move on. Need to get up earlier than usual so to bed for my 4 or 5 hrs. of sleep!!

Eileen

Heather - Basically, yes, Ron handled all the financial both personal and business. Last Thursday, Kay had to transfer money to cover their payroll and didn't know the password or how to do it. They got it resolved but not without a lot of stress and maneuvering. Plus, she doesn't want his 40 acres with his hunting cabin on it so she wants to sell that. Right now their dry cleaning business is having problems as half their staff is sick with the flu so she's working this week as she doesn't feel she has a choice. We really hope she sells the business as she doesn't need that stress! Then she also feels she will have to move as the condo they live in she won't be able to financially afford plus it is way too big for one.

I love Ron and Kay but they haven't prepared for as they should have but then perhaps Norm and I haven't either! Something to ponder.

TC.....I want only merriment coming from visitors to my reception wherever it is held. Told Alex not to let them be morbid and talk about whatever I died from.
In fact....I told Alex....have the reception or even my memorial service in some place big enough for everyone to get up & do my favourite Line Dances.... emoticon emoticon emoticon

Sharon....were you saying on your post that Ron did all the finance stuff? And Kay never did so is now worried about how to go about it all?
When I was married to my X husband....I did all the finances and Alex did all the finances with his X wife...
When he and I first got together...neither of us wanted to give it to the other. It became a nightmare with both of us doing our own thing.
Since Alex has the better mathematical brain emoticon I decided to just give him this job to do. He is very good at it all.....BUT.....he keeps me in the loop & I know where to find all the passwords for accounts online etc...
We also put everything we are owner of in BOTH names ( not just the house/ trailer/ truck BUT all bank accounts/ all insurance policies/ all utility accounts /..... you name it and I will tell you it is in both our names! )
Being in both names makes life a heck of a lot easier for the survivor PLUS all the above mentioned will also thank you as it makes a lot less work for them as well to put things in the survivors name.

So we are ready.....OR we are fairly ready for whatever happens.....except for the emotional part emoticon emoticon emoticon

Marianne, so happy to hear your RV is fixed!! Yay !!
WG, puppy training rough for awhile. It is cute you held the baby for a bit. We all need a little hug time every now and then.
Ruthann, you still have your hands full but good that you think ahead.
Eileen, sure am happy to hear Mindy gets some time with you.
Sharon, as much as funerals, visitations, services, etc cost, i opted for cremation and everyone can use my house, drink my wine and visit. Hell, if i get any notice, maybe i can join them before i go...lol ! Really though, people just want a place to gather and remember the departed.
I do not remember any one elses posts. Sorry !

I am walking, biking, stretching and will go up n down stairs but hard to carry stuff at same time. Pain slightly better with ice and naproxen.

Morning Ladies
We are having another beautiful day before another cold front arrives dropping us from 80 down in to the 50's for the next couple of days. Of course, with rain! We are just hoping the weather is decent on Saturday for our Mardi Gras Barefoot on the Beach Parade! We have a group of people planning to go.

I just got back from a walk with Nala. She is so full of energy today! I had to almost run to keep up with her.

Norm, as always, continues to keep his emotions to himself and his answer is to keep busy. So with that being said, he is busy working in the bathroom putting in a lighting rope up around the ceiling. It is so dark in our bathroom after dark, it's like taking a shower in the dark. So he thinks this will solve the problem. Plus, he is working on the countertop. On Sat, when my emotions were trying to deal with everything, Nala upchucked on her blanket and our area rug. I put the blanket in the sink turned it on and went to go get laundry detergent. Just then someone came to our door and I forgot the water running. It overflowed and created quite a mess. Someone noticed it leaking out of our MH! We thought we were lucky and getting away with no permanent damage. However, our bathroom contertop has bubbled so Norm is trying to repair that before a more costly solution. Always something!

WG - we have never had a puppy that did not like her crate. Even now, with Nala going on 5 yrs old, she still goes in to her crate at home at times. This is the first year we did not bring it with us. She probably won't use it at home now. So sorry the puppy doesn't like hers. She doesn't relieve herself in her crate, does she? Perhaps you could move it to your bedroom so she feels close to you.

Marianne - Relief is the word that comes to mind with your RV. It took so long to repair. I hope your outing proves it was repaired to you and Pete's satisfaction!

Eileen - If your weather is like ours, Mindy will enjoy being here. However, as I mentioned, we have a cold front moving in. If you get it too, she may be discouraged for a couple days!

Heather - Kay is freaking out over their finances and can hardly grieve as she's so worried. If nothing else, it opened our eyes. As we get to our sunset years, every one needs to set plans in place. We all think of funerals and luncheons (or not), but financial issues is especially important if it is one sided like most of us.

Ruthann - I am glad you took a rest day. You must take care of yourself during these stressful days. I am praying that you can sell Nancy's home quickly! That will be a big load off your chest. I see you are still losing weight slowly. Are you almost to your goal or don't you set a goal. Just allow your body to chose it's own goal. My niece is having weight loss surgery on 2/27. I hope she is as successful as you have been!

Good morning Friends,

I took yesterday off. I did close to nothing and I loved it. I feel more refreshed today and ready to face more of CUZins stuff. She did called me twice yesterday for a ride to her bookies club on Friday and that was the day I was leaving for Yum. She sounded so excited about it I didn't say NO. I will be spending the whole day Thursday with her for 2 doctors appointments. Which should be a long day.
Yesterday, I started a list all of her accounts etc. that I will need a death certificate for. When the poop hits the fan I will be ready and organized to handle all that has to be done.

Today I will have to go and meet with the home to dispute $350. that I think they overcharged her. Check out the Mobile to see if everything is OK. Get approved from the manager to sell. Change some flyers to the new ones.
They had 2 more people interested but the one with cash wanted her daughter and baby to live with her. You know that will never happen. The other one is looking for financing. (she is a hairdresser. With the park rent and a payment on her home. Forget it. Not good prospect. So we wait. Spring is coming and things will move then. I HOPE.

Nancy had an evaluation to help her with taking meds. It is costing her $375.00 to make sure that she takes them twice a day. Her long term care may help her with that. All the questions that she was asked she passed with flying colors. So here may be no help. I will be surprised if they want to help her.

Here it is 9:00 m and I need to get ready to go do her errands so I can get back here early.

Later friends.

LIFE IS GOD'S GIFT TO YOU ... HOW YOU LIVE IT IS YOUR
GIFT TO GOD, YOURSELF AND LOVED ONES.

Eileen....Glad Mindy is enjoying her visit. Hope the weather co-operates for her.
Marianne....yippeee on getting your RV back!
WG....awwwww.....poor wee puppy. Your a good Mama going to get him to hold.
Sharon.....so sad that Terry & Arlene are like they are. Really hard to deal with people like that. If they were not family we would probably not hang out with them. Wonder with their attitudes if they have any close friends? We have family just like them too.
Ruthann....still always busy. Wish things would slow down for you. Congrats on fixing the leaky faucet in the shower! GIRL POWER!
PJ....your park pictures are really beautiful. Nice looking place! Glad to hear the truck is working.

Alex & I both want to be cremated. When we discussed all this....At first Alex said he did not want any reception because he did not want to spend money giving everyone sandwiches! emoticon
But I told him.....you will be dead! You won't know what I do.... emoticon
Later he said.....yeah! I think a reception would be something we both should do for the other because I think we will need the support to help us cope with our loss. ( LOL he must have been thinking quite a bit eh? )
BUT it is something I think is a good thing to do. Not just for ourselves but for others who also need closure.
People always bring food to your door here as well to help you feed family who are around because of the death so you do not have to cook for them. emoticon

Mindy is trying to enjoy the weather and the pool. She will only get a couple days if the weather people are right. So she is soaking it in. We have been doing our thing. I thought about going to the pool with her but had baking to get done and also dinner prep. Takes a little extra time to get it all packed up and taken over to mom's. She always calls and wants to go out to eat even though she was quite dizzy again today. Then after eating a big meal for her says that home cooking is the best. So I will keep that going at least 4 times a week.

Being gluten intolerant now, going out to eat is difficult. Yesterday we stopped at Luby's and I was sick getting home. Figured out the liver I enjoy had been dusted with flour as I would do the same thing. Didn't even think about that. SO I enjoy eating at home more.

Sharon, I hadn't thought about the reason for a lunch after a funeral. It seems to be a total tradition in our area., even with cremation. I can see that too. Seems like every family has some form of dysfunction.

WG, your poor puppy. They do get attached to certain areas and of course people. If not the center of attention, many hurt feelings. Makes them all most human.

Marianne, WooHoo in getting the rig back. Now you can enjoy traveling again. We have to stop on the way home for some warranty work. Hope it's not long as we have to live in it with repairs going on.

Good afternoon,

Ruthann, you sound like you might need another vacation. emoticon Trouble with the water in Yuma sounds like a pain.

Eileen, so glad Mindy arrived and you’re enjoying a visit!

WG, poor puppy, and poor you — good luck with the house breaking. Ours do sleep in their crates in the laundry room, and we feed them in their crates too. Not too many protests now, but they do have each other for company in the same room.

Sharon, woohoo on the exercise! I love Richard Simmons Sweatin’ To the Oldies. emoticon

We have our RV back, yippee!! emoticon
Repairs seem to be okay — we’re planning a quick trip in March so that’s our test run.

Hi Everyone. It is a sunny but cold day. Hopefully it will heat up a bit.

Heather, the gadgets are great. It is fun to find new things that really help. I know my mom used her roof shovel all the time. I don't get enough snow to do it. It does make life much safer, though.

TC, so sorry you are still having a lot of pain. Hopefully you will get an idea of what to do next. Until then, it is probably good to rest. I don't know about the ice. It is hard to do that on your own. Stairs can be a bother at times.

Eileen, I'm sorry your feet are painful. Have a fun visit with Mindy.

Sharon, I'm glad you are dealing with family as you can. There are no good answers. Whatever way you need to say goodbye to Norm's brother is the right one whether or not it is conventional. I haven't had a "proper" funeral in the family for many years. I don't know that there is a right way to do anything any more.

I do agree that meeting as a family and sharing memories is great and "over food" even though people don't travel long distances is a great way to do so. As a genealogy buff, I think there needs to be a paper trail or a physical trail somewhere for those who follow so they can find information and clues if needed. Other than that, it is a personal choice.

Today I'm dealing with the poor puppy. We moved the crate which works better for the flow of family (28 last night) but the dog hates being banished to the laundry room. With the open floor plan it isn't a big deal but to him it was awful. Such sobbing and crying last night. I finally gave up and held him as we slept a bit in the recliner. He's stayed very close to me today but doesn't like his crate today at all. I'll have to work on that. My hope is he can wander the house soon and won't have to live in the crate.

Have a great day.

Morning!
It's a foggy day here so close to the water, but hot and humid! We did a 1 mile WATP's at Exercise and then we popped in a Richard Simmon's Sweatin To The Oldies. We passed on the chair yoga as we were all ready to go take showers!

Norm is up at Woodcarving which you all know he enjoys. Yesterday he sat with several male friends to watch the Nascar race which also helping him through his grieving. Unfortunately, the race was rained out but he still got time with his friends.

This morning Norm's sister called me to talk. She is staying with Kay for the whole week. She wanted us to know that Kay is very sincere when she says not to come home. She wanted to call when Kay wasn't around to let us know how upset Kay was because Terry & Arlene have been quick to tell us that they couldn't tell us what to do so let your conscious be your guide. It really was a guilt trip for Norm. I guess Kay has had her own issues with them over the last week and is just trying to get through all this without blowing up on them. Like I say, Terry and Arlene put the dysfunction in the family without even realizing it. They mean well.

Marianne - I believe a service really puts closure on a death. I truly wish we could be there as it would be good for Norm but after Kay and LuAnn encouraging us not to come home, I think Norm will decide to remain here.

PJ - Norm and I both are quick to say just cremate us. Norm is OK with a Memorial Service but only wants cake or cookies. He doesn't think it's necessary to have a luncheon. He believes that practice started when people traveled by horse and buggy. They fed them before they left to travel home but that it's not necessary today. My own belief is that it does friends and family good to grieve together. Ron felt the same as Norm (perhaps their upbringing) so Kay was just having cookies at the funeral home but her kids wanted a church service and luncheon. It is a personal decision and I would never judge anyone for their decisions.

Ruthann - you are so busy, it's always glad to see your posts. Perhaps when you get your cousin settled and the house sold, things will slow down. Although, Terry will keep you busy but it will be fun stuff and not the stress you are dealing with.

Eileen - I am glad Mindy has arrived, let the fun begin! I doubt that Kay will have another service but she might have a family gathering at their property, especiall if she decides to spread his ashes there. She never did enjoy going up north to their property. It was mostly a hunting place for Ron. She said she would need to sell the land for financial purposes so that may make her decide not to spread his ashes there. Too soon to know.

Busy day. Off to church with mom in tow and a rush out the door when Mindy text she was here. We were only about 15 mins away. Stopped for lunch at Luby's which wasn't that good. I think it may be the oldest in town. That gave us a 2 hr. window to rest and then up to set up for ice cream. Did Brownie Sundaes today and will next week again.
got a lot of pain in my feet with all the working yesterday and running today. Will be good to hit the bed tonight. Mindy's was up an hour earlier than her usual 4:45 AM and goes to bed at 8 PM. I am sure she will go up to coffee with dad tomorrow.

TC, Roger and I have both had meniscus tears, I have 2. We both had the MRI and with all the shaking and rattling the machine does, it must have pull the "flap" back into place and neither of us have had pain there since. I hope this works for you as well. Everybody has given good ideas for you. It's hard with steps.

Sharon, I agree that Norm will work it though when he decides what to do. Do you think once the family is all together, they might hold a private Memorial? By spring it may be a little easier to enjoy the memories shared by all. Mom will be buried beside dad and my brother, Russ. His wife from CA. may be buried with him as she wants cremation and one set of ashes can be buried in a single grave.

Well i have a few minutes before I have to leave again.
Today we have karaoke with friends and we also have a dinner and play at 5:30.
Ia m glad Terry looked at the calendar. I forgot about it.
Just got back from church. The faucet was leaking in Terry's shower and I have been working on it and fixed it. So now I should be getting ready to go and I feel like I have NO time in my life.
I have been so busy with my cousin that I am exhausted.
I hope to take tomorrow off but that will be a joke. I am ready to cry.

They called from Yuma and there is something going on with the water that waters the lawn. I paid them to put in a timer and my grass is turning brown. What a joke. Just something else to add to the list.

Norm and Sharon: Mt heart goes out to you both for the loss of Norms brother. It gets harder as we get older. For sure.

I wan to be cremated and my son can sprinkle my ashes as he drives down the street. I told him I love to travel.

Sorry running out of time. I must go. Later

TC what about getting a portable ice maker where you could get to it for your ice packs.

Sharon I think your doing the right thing letting Norm decide. Frank and I both want to be cremated with no services except for family to see us in the funeral home. I want to be scattered Frank has not decided whether to be buried and where if that is what he decides. I think more and more people are opting for cremation.

TC, so sorry for your pain and what looks like a long recovery. How about getting an ice chest upstairs with a bag of ice for the day? Could your mother or a friend help with that? I know several people who decided not to have surgery for a torn meniscus— seems to be some debate, at least around here. Hope you trust your doctor and sending good thoughts. emoticon

Sharon, my mother didn’t want a service after my father died — my brother and I went along with her but I always regretted that decision. Everyone grieves in their own way. Stress eating is sure understandable just now.

Should finish our taxes today and organize files. Gorgeous sunny day with temps in the 60’s so taking dogs for a walk later this afternoon.

I went back and read all the posts I have missed.

TC - I am sorry about your knee but if it's a torn meniscus won't you definitely require surgery? I didn't know they could heal on their own.

We just talked to Ron's wife. She called especially to tell us we didn't need to come home. They did have Ron cremated. She did not want a funeral but her four kids overode her decision and so they are having a service on 2/26. It would take us two days to get home with an overnight stay plus Nala doesn't travel well in a car. And then again to come back here. All for a 2 hr service. Kay said others that are gone for the winter, like her brother won't make it either. She was very convincing. I am leaving it up to Norm as I don't want to have him ever come back on me about a decision.

Marianne - Happy to hear the RV part has arrived and they can finally get the repair done so you can have it back.

I want to thank everyone for your warm hearted posts, Spark Mail and Spark Goodies. I just want you to know how much it has helped. I showed all of them to Norm.

Sharon, HUG's to you & Norm. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon We have seasons to our lives. Remember not all cancers are treated the same so outcomes vary. Sis will have to stay positive for best outcome. Prayers out daily. I feel bad for Norm & brother. I hope they can mend before it is too late. I agree with Marianne about not feeling like you have to be upbeat all the time just because you are our leader. We all need to have a sounding board and we all love you so keep coming here.

WG, the way the world is going, I wonder if Disney will honor the passes for all the parks or just the original ? I can see them wanting to save some money there after so many years. The puppy is now homed up with the laundry, eh ? LOL. Ours stayed in the kitchen. Linoleum, life saver.

Heather, wow, neat inventions. I can see Alex saying that about you, you practical girl, you !

Eileen, I am glad to see the new service is working well with mom so far. That HAS to be a relief. Sure is cold at home.

PJ, I like your park. Gorgeous.

Thank God for the walking stick mom got us. Mine is in the camper but Mike found his and it is helping a lot, Problem is I can not go to work with a cane. MRI scheduled Thursday along with first PT session but I have been doing PT on my own almost a month.

Ortho doc seems to think my pop was a meniscus tear and I would have to agree but the MRI will tell for sure. At this time, I am thinking no to surgery but will have to see what MRI shows for sure. RT knee seemed to be feeling better but tried walking the 25 steps to bathroom 4 times yesterday very slowly w/o cane and knee is more panful today again so may be going too fast. I have read it can take as long as bones to heal 6-8 weeks.

Ice helps. Problem : bathroom upstairs - need hourly, kitchen, ice downstairs. Mike and kid in So. English again. He does love his lil house. Getting about half of normal back on taxes so that really hurt my vacation fund. Will have to try and save another way. Right now I use 2 credit unions. The second one I put the money Marissa pays in rent in case someone says I have to give it back, LOL !! I have my RV financed thru them also.

I have to get up and walk every hour, bike 20 minutes 3 x daily, stretches leg lifts etc x 20 at least 2 times daily. Should lose weight, right ?!!

SO sorry to read about Norm's brother Ron

Sharon....
SO sorry that they found cancer doing your sister's hysterectomy....that is so sad. There is no way to tell if the chemo shortens one's life or not. The one thing that always seems to win with cancer is a positive attitude and the will to live! ( whether you do chemo or not )

HI everyone. It is a cold and gray day but I'm not going anywhere. I did hit the grocery and get some things for stuffed shells for the grands. I'm doing portobello lasagna for the ones who like mushrooms. We'll have fun.

Sharon, so sorry for Norm's brother. I'm sure he would like to be there. It is hard to grieve when you don't see the reality. Sometimes it is nice to write down some memories of his brother and share them with his children.

PJ, it looks lovely there. I am glad you are getting walks in.

Marianne, hope the RV gets fixed soon. it will be nice to get back to your fun times.

The kids are attending a service for an uncle on their father's side. He was dead ten days before their father got around to telling them he was dead. Ex claimed he was overcome with grief, but I don't buy it.

I've got to clean up before the kids come tomorrow.

Have a great day.

Sharon, this is a difficult and stressful time for you both — please don’t think you have to only post upbeat news. All of us care about you, and send Norm our condolences. Sending love, hugs and prayers.

PJ, so glad you posted those pictures — it looks like a beautiful place to camp.

One hopeful thing is the part for our RV arrived yesterday and we should have it repaired by early next week. Fingers crossed. We won’t be able to take a long trip but have some getaway plans in California for March and April.

Sharon we are all here for you. Stay strong. The service when you get home will be nice but I'm sure Norm is wishing you could be there anyway.

Eileen I hope that things continue to work out with your mom and the in home care.

Busy day so far. I did a load of luandry and walked while they washed and when they were drying. Have a chicken in the crockpot that should give us at 2-3 meals. Vacuumed and mop the floors. Just sitting down drinking a protein shake. Frank is outside doing all his setting up things. I see the clothesline is going up now. We found out that one of the older widowers won't be here after this year. He was the last of the elder ones that were here when we started coming. He celebrated his 94 birthday this week. Going into a retirement home. Will be sad to not see him anymore but it is understandable.

Here are pictures from where we are now. Pelicans that came to greet us soon after arriving and then a picture from our front door and the beautiful view of the lake. We are among big tall pine trees here in this park. Much different then then desert area of Falcon.

Well, we got the call this morning that Norm's brother has passed. All his children were able to say their goodbyes. As usual, Norm isn't saying much. He took a long walk to be by himself. I was concerned but he said the reality is hard to accept being down here. One of the last coherent things he said before he passed was that Terry & Norm need to put their spat aside and behave like brothers. Norm agrees.

His wife called late last night and said don't bother to come home as he is being cremated and she will have a Celebration of Life Service at a later date. We were OK with that but this morning we found out his sister in KY is flying in to be with family. She will spend a couple days with Kay so she isn't alone. So the other siblings are there to grieve together except for Norm and for that we feel bad.

We also got bad news on my side of the family yesterday. My sister that I am so close to had a hysterectomy a week or so ago and the lab just came back and said it was cancer and that she will need chemo treatments. I didn't dare tell her that Ron's death was speeded up with his chemo treatment!

Sorry to just give bad news - hopefully my next post will be more upbeat!

Sharon, I am so sorry about Norm's brother. Prayers that he is at peace and not suffering. It is hard to lose a sibling. My brother was a sudden death and a shock. It was just about 10 yrs. ago and not many days pass that I don't think of him. God bless!!

Hi everyone. Hope most of you are having a good Valentine's day.

Sharon, I'm so sorry for you and Norm. It is so hard to lose a sibling. I hope his brother can pass peacefully and his family can be with him.

If you travel, I hope you are safe and the weather is not too bad.

Eileen, so glad your mom is doing well with her home health aides. Hopefully this will work well and you can be at peace.

Heather, the shovel looks good. I have had only a couple of ice storms in my life and used a flat head shovel to get the icy stuff off. I still use it when I have packed snow/ice but it is never all that much and usually tire tracks.

Marianne, if I didn't mention it before, congrats on getting new hearing aides. It is good that you can hear better.

TC, that is miserable to have that sort of pain. I hope the ortho can help you.

I'm off to do more laundry and move the puppy to the laundry area. He's been in the main room but having the kids for dinner Sunday so he needs to be safe and I need the space.

Have a great day

I wish I could say it is a Happy Valentine Day but our hearts are grieving. First they called to say Norm's brother was going downhill so they were taking him in to surgery. Now they called to tell us the doctors are not going to do surgery as his body is shutting down and he's not going to make it. So now we are waiting for the call to say he has passed.

Norm is off getting our oil changed on the car in preparation for a quick trip home if necessary. We haven't discussed funeral arrangements so we don't know what or when that will be. He may be cremated with a service later or a regular funeral.

So please pray for Norm and his family!

What a beautiful and cool day today. The sun finally made it's debut! The temp stayed in the upper 60's but when out in the sun it felt warmer.

Mom said she was grumpy as the gal kept knocking on the door and mom had to get to the door. It was unlocked but the gal did have a different address so it was the thing to do. They got along well. This lady has kids in the 20's with the youngest of 14. Mom got a shower and was quite refreshed. Made for a good attitude today. This lady has a strong hispanic "twang" but hoping mom can soon have no problem chatting. Tomorrow is a different gal that will be doing the driving to her hair appt. and nail appt. That will cover the 3 hrs. We have been making the evening meal and taking it over as we have steps that we don't want mom walking. So tomorrow, beings it's our game night, we will be eating an early meal so we can get to our friend's home.

Today was a sad day as our next door neighbors moved out to a single floor home in Mission. They have had trouble walking up their steps into the house. Really nice people and will miss them but have a couple moving in that we know. The man, Bob, is in rehab after 3 different surgeries in 1 hospital stay. Aneurysm, then heart surgery and the carotid (neck vessel cleared out). Hope he is ready for the move. They have a daughter living with them now.

Sharon, Roger sure doesn't miss his morning and evening coffee with the guys. Thurs. is the day they all go out to breakfast and the waitress knows them so well, all she asks is if any order changes. I am so sorry that Ron is going through all this. It has to be so tough on both. I do all the office work like you but have a book with all the info Roger would need. I ask questions about what he is doing and why but don't usually do any of it. So we both have a good idea how to continue alone if needed. But physically I would have the harder time.

TC,I feel for you. Pain is pain but the level is what takes one down. I hope you had some good info today and that you can be much freer of the pain. Canes and walking sticks can be a life saver. Feel better!!! I think we are having the weird weather as you all are too. No Jan/ hard freeze but getting it tonight and this week.

Heather, I looked at the sites you posted and showed them to Roger. He has seen the snow peeler but not the shovel. Loved the shovel switch over. We don't worry about that now but if needed we might be able to get our kids to clear the roof. Apparently there has n't been much snow so rooftops aren't bad. BUT the temps this week are terrible. Makes me love the 60's with a wind chill. Home is going to be -35 tonight windchill. Will be using a fair amount of gas for the furnace at home this winter.

TC....poor you! emoticon it is great that you got an ortho appointment so quickly! emoticon

Sharon....like others said here~~ it is never easy for people & families to make a decision on whether or not to continue treatments. Everyone is different in how they think. Some say they will do anything & everything to continue living....Others say...I've had enough, I just want to live whatever time I've got left with a better quality than I have doing these treatments.
For myself....I have mixed right now ( if I had ca and having treatments ) Part of me says I would stop them after a certain time....the other part YELLS at me that I do not want to die!

A friend of mine in Scotland died at age 48. She decided NO treatments. She was a nurse and said she would rather take whatever time she had left with family & friends and not being sick from treatments.....because she felt in the end she would die.
It is funny how people think....my friend smoked and continued to smoke till she died~~~ when people would look astonished when she lit a cigarette ....Ann would say something along the line of~~~~
* Why the F%# K not? I 'm going to die anyway! * Boy oh Boy did that shut people up from telling her she should'nt be smoking!

Here in Canada you can request to die on a certain date with Dr's assistance. This is not done willy nilly....there are all kinds of stipulations before 2 doctors approve this.
Do they have this in the USA?
Glad Ron is showing some slight improvements..... emoticon

Eileen....oh the trial & tribulations of dealing with Moms eh? I hope your Mom * likes* her home worker.....THAT is the answer to her accepting the services. My Mom had an excellent worker when she was at her Apt. and she became like one of our family. Another *daughter* went well for my sister when I was up here 100 miles away. So much better for you when you go north again if you know Mom is being well taken care of..... emoticon

WG.....WOW~~~ A 35 YEAR Old Disney pass that is still viable today! That is emoticon

PJ....Even our weather here this winter has weird changing temps....yesterday it was 25F. Tomorrow they will be 1.5F with wind chills bringing them down to minus 15F
It has been doing this all winter here.
Alex bought a portable charger years ago and it has paid for itself many times over. If our battery died it seemed we were in the middle of nowhere emoticon

Brenda.....I love walking outside in winter but don't do it often because I always worry about falling and breaking something.... emoticon

Marianne.....happy to * HEAR * that your hearing aids are working well emoticon
Sorry...could not resist the pun....
I really love ya ...ya know eh? emoticon

Arlene.....my sister & I are going to do one or two yard sales this summer. Her basement is full of *stuff* from my Mom's apt and from her MIL's house....plus she and her hubby are pack rats! Just wait till she gets me to help! emoticon

HiYa Kat.....how are you doing? emoticon

Ruthann....my my my.......you are going to be played out! I would rather shovel snow any day than do all the running that you do~~ but all that movement should help you lose weight or keep it off!

Yesterday I shoveled (raked ) snow off the roof.....my next door neighbor brought his state of the art roof cleaner over to let me try it... I fell in love! So went and ordered one at our local hardware store today....

Good morning !

Worked yesterday, snowed, so had to be really careful in parking lot. Thankfully, I did not fall but coming up stairs at home, I heard a loud pop in RT knee and super bad pain. Could not put much weight on it to get up other 8 stairs and hate to admit it but cried the whole time. Mike found his walking trail stick and I am hobbling around this morning. A tad less pain with the stick. 1:30 ortho appt so I am hoping they help. Glad they could get me in and my sweet momma will drive me there. Tired of being in so much pain. I rarely have pain over a 4-5 and this is consistently 7-10.

PJ, I can relate to the lack of sleep and grouchy hateful speech. I do that. I hope the truck got fixed and that you have decent weather at the new park.

Eileen, I can see why your feet would hurt after all that work at the ice cream social. I am glad mom is at least letting the workers come in. The concert sounds lovely. You Texans are having really weird weather.

Ruthann, you have a lot of work ahead of you. I hope you can get the MH sold and I hope the sale is not too much work.

Sharon, prayers for Ron I hope he IS doing a bit better. I have no idea what Mike's plans are as far as moving or not. He has mentioned nothing and I am guessing he just likes being able to get away from here for awhile. The house has always been his.

WG, I hope you had a good time with the grands. Sounds like the puppy training is coming along. I always enjoy them better at about age 2-3.

Arlene, that is good news about the stents in your eyes helping. I hope you do get off the drops. The sale will be a lot of work. For the money I make, it is no longer worth it to me. I also get frustrated by people stealing my stuff or asking a dime for something I have fairly priced. I just donate all my stuff now.

Marianne, new RV part tomorrow... Yay !! Do you have the new hearing aides already ? I hope they are working well.

Good Morning!
The sun is shining brightly and not a cloud in the sky! In fact, there is about a 2" gape in our side curtain and the sun managed to shine in that crack and it was right in my eye! Woke me out of a sound sleep at 7:30.

Norm did not go to men's coffee this morning. It seemed nice to sit and converse over coffee in our own home for once. Of course, I made my meal replacement keto coffee but still it was nice to have company. Now he is off doing his woodcarving class. When he gets home shortly after 12pm, we are going to go get a lunch out and then doing grocery shopping.

Our weather would be much better if it weren't so windy! The wind makes it feel cooler than it is.

Eileen - I hope your mom get accustomed to having help and comes to enjoy it. Are they just young girls or mature ladies. I would think she would be happier with someone mature. Best of luck with it. Poor Ron, he is getting no nutrition yet. His digestive system is still in distress. He is only getting an IV so he doesn't get dehydrated. He can't get up or move so they have a catheter for his urine but he also has diarhea so bad it just runs out of him so they have some type of tube inserted so his bed remains clean. Perhaps you know what that involves. It is so sad. It's difficult to believe he will get better but we are praying!

WG - you probably understand about Ron as well. Poor Kay, she let's Ron do all their personal bills and paperwork at their business (drycleaning). Now she sees the error of that. She has to transfer money today to cover her payroll and doesn't even know the password! So she is hoping to change that when (or if) Ron recovers enough to tell her the stuff she needs to know. Unfortunately, a lot of couples end up in that situation. Norm would also be in a world of hurt because he has me do everything with our financial business. I also would be in a world of hurt as he physically takes care of me and I barely know how to change a lightbulb. Something we all need to think about.

Did you ever find the Disney pass? Disney is so expensive now, I hope you find it and they honor it.

PJ - I hope you have a safe and fun day of travel. It's windy but not enough to bother too much if your weather is like ours.

No rains last night or today. It was still misting early AM. but by the time breakfast was done, it was done. Still cold for people here, even a little for me. High of 58 for McAllen. The house kept getting cooler and cooler so finally turn the furnace on just to warm it. Sill turn it off when going to bed. Another cool day tomorrow.

The last card day tomorrow and the 1st day of mom's helper. I have her coming at 8 AM. Roger will unlock mom's door and the gal can start breakfast. Mom doesn't even have to get up but I know she will. The assistant will be there for the first half hr. of cards. I planned that so I can see how mom is dealing. Fri. I am having mom covered for her hair appt. and then nail appt. right after. The helper will be the one driving mom's car to the appt. I won't be going and and quite curious how it's going to work out. This is apparently how they get the car keys away eventually. Time will tell.

WG, I hope the pass is found. It is so expensive now to go there. I know the kids will love it. I wish we could have taken the kids and grands now but not realistic.

Sharon, I am glad there is some improvement in Ron but certainly understand the thoughts about some to no more treatments. Prayers will continue. The weather has certainly be crazy this winter for us. We are so far behind in rain fall, it's close to a moderate drought now.
Temps have gone above normal to cold but no frosts so it's even warmer in the cold.

PJ, I hope your truck problems are solved and few and far between. It is good to have a charger available. We had to use one last fall when we came down as we were not aware the newer cars have to have the battery cables disconnected when not run for a month or have someone start them and run them. So the car was more than dead when we tried to move it to unload the camper. Had the charger. HOpe you get on the road as planned tomorrow.

Hi everyone. It is quiet here right now. Puppy down for a nap, Enterprise is watching a movie and the other grands are at school.

I am texting DD and DS trying to find his Disneyland pass. He won a day pass when he was 5. He turns 40 in 6 weeks so it is quite old but it doesn't expire. He wants to take the kids there. It's been in the works since their mom died but he didn't want to do it quickly and then things happened. It will be two years so it's not a long time but long enough.

I think we located where the pass is. I don't know exactly but know where it was put when I was handing out things or getting ready to hand them out.

Sharon, glad your BIL is doing a bit better. It is a hard decision to decide whether or not to continue with treatment. Some people survive a long time and others not at all. There is a book I read about these decisions. It was recommended by a doctor friend. It talked about accepting the decisions and asking the person what they want to do with their lives. Sometimes that helps make the decision rather than just trying to live longer because it is possible. Some people decide to stop treatment so they can do what they want with the time they have left.

PJ, happy trails to you. It will be nice to go to the next place. Isn't the fishing better there?
Have a good safe trip.

Eileen, glad your first visit went well. Your mom can play games as long as she keeps the home health people. Going around on a rolling chair isn't a good choice but my mom did the same thing when she had a hard time walking. Hopefully your mom will be comfortable with the plan before you return north.

Arlene, I would miss my nearsightedness. I use it all the time. I suppose I can live with that since there are alternatives, but it is a challenge for sure. I hope your stent works well.

Marianne, the talk about how old your kids are has been fun. It is interesting to remember as it doesn't seem like my kids should be as old as they are. Of course, since I'm so young, they can't be that old.

Have a great day.

Good Afternoon!
Thanks for your prayers. I talked to Kay last night and the doctors are hopeful that Ron will not pass yet but it will take at least a week to bring him around and then he'll probably go to rehab or have home care. The dr said Ron was doing an experimental chemo and when he recovers, they will try a different treatment. At this time Kay says no. If he can return to some quality of life, she is sure he will want to live his remaining time without any more treatments. So he's not better but we are a little more optimistic about him surviving.

PJ - Safe travels to Powell Park. As for TX weather, it's anybodies guess. I see you had the big change in weather too, just like Eileen and us. And we are all scattered across Texas!

Eileen - your mom is certainly difficult at times but she is your mother and I know you will do whatever it takes until the end. I just pray you feel confident about her care when it's time for you to leave. Your concert sounds like an enjoyable evening as well.

Arlene - I can relate somewhat on your eyes getting tired. Some days I have to take out my contacts and rely on my glasses as reading the computer is really hard on my eyes. I hope you got your Marketplace listings resolved. I've never used that but I've heard it's better than Craig's List.

Marianne - I am happy to know you got new hearing aids and they are working well. I sure can tell a difference on the few days Norm does not wear his for one reason or another. It's hard for him to wear them if he's outside in the wind.

As for our kids aging, our DS turned 50 last March and it was harder on us than when we turned 50. It just made us feel so old.

Thank you everyone for your prayers. Considering yesterday we were told Ron was at death's door and today there is hope for recovering, it must be working so please keep praying.

Boy has the weather changed We had mid 90s over the weekend and yesterday it was a high of 57. Still windy and cloudy today.

We spent yesterday going to town for groceries. Today it is packup day and leave in the morning. There is one hitch the truck is acting up DH went to town to get an alternator and hopefully that will fix the problem. The batteries aren't charging so we did get a portable charger yesterday as well just in case but always good to have on hand.

We spent yesterday going to town and getting groceries and a Walmart run. Today is packing up to leave in the morning. We ran into a truck problem yesterday the batteries aren't charging. We bought a portable battery charger just in case and always good to have on hand. Today Frank decided to go and buy an alternator hoping that is the problem.

I will be glad to get to Powell Park on Friday even though it is always cooler and wetter there.

Eileen Your mom is really challenging I am praying that this new Home care will work out for all of you.

Sharon praying for Ron and family It is very difficult to be far from home in those situations. I hope that when it comes to Frank's mom it will happen when we are home.

Ruthann I am so glad things were handled by the niece while you were gone. I know the garage sales are a lot of work and agree that 3 would work better that way you don't have to do it all at once and not be quite as overwhelmed. I hope all works our for you son and he finds a job quickly.

Mariann it is hard to accept our kids are as old as they are. Tony will be 51 this year and Chris will be 49 in May. Wow so hard to believe it has been that long since they were babies.

He is back from town now and I have fingers crossed that the truck can be fixed. He brings any kind of tool he would need with us.

Sharon, My heart goes out to your and Norm. We are both sending hugs and prayers to you and the family.

We did play cards today. Came back home for about an hour to get a few things done and back to mom's to wait for the RN that came to evaluate the situation. Mom was hesitate and wanted me to make decisions as this was my idea not hers. Great starting point. A one hour visit and she still couldn't think about hrs. so the RN wants a call tomorrow as to what time she is to send over the assistant. Mom does make things difficult.

Went to a concert tonight by the Wind Ensemble. We both think this was one of the best ones we have gone to. There was a Bassoon solo and it was awesome! I used to play the Bassoon and had forgotten the octave range. The program was filled with music that gave a mental picture with every song.

Marianne, it really is hard to believe the time has passed so quickly with our kids aging along with us. Jason will be 46 next month with Aaron following in April to 44 and Mindy in May to 43. They are still our kids, aren't they, not grown up to that age!! :-)

Sharon, when we went to play cards at 10 AM the temp was 75 degrees. 2 hrs. later it was 63 degrees!! I was sent for 87 as the weatherman told us (shorts and sleeveless top) so it was a little chilly with the north winds blowing me home on the golf cart. Misty rains all evening. Suppose to get some good rains. (we hope).
