Dianne, our last day of the month is tibbar, tibbar or rabbit ,rabbit spelled backwards. My sister taught me this as a teenager but we haven't done it with our children. Tibbar tibbar had to be the LAST thing you said when you went to bed and rabbit rabbit the first thing when you woke up in order to have god luck for the whole month.

Our trick or treating is from 5-8 and so far I have had Nellie dressed adorably as a pig and two alumni dressed as Ninjas or something like that. Two more girls came dressed as an angel and a devil. I found that hilarious because they are twins and I wondered if the costumes were fitting to their personalities!

As far as DH's eyes go, a veil was always an emergency so I don't know why it isn't this time. Hopefully he won't need surgery on Friday because we have tickets to see Area Community Theater's production of Mary Poppins with our Little Brother

I love what the pinkie ring for your DD3 symbolizes and I love that you got to go out for lunch with your hubby. I miss doing that. We will have to make it a point to go some Saturday afternoon soon before the holidays take up all our time. I saw a Facebook post today that said , "8 more Fridays until Christmas" and it made me want to start decorating now but then I remembered dusting, sigh.

It was a very quiet day without Landon today and even quieter when Dela fell asleep for a couple of hours. The poor little thing was complaining of a headache on and off all day but I didn't have any medicine for her so we just snuggled and kept things low key. Luckily, Nellie slept and Michael behaved like an angel.

Happy Halloween! emoticon

Morning! Happy Halloween and--turtle, turtle! (It's the last day of the month--the first is rabbit, rabbit so DD3 decided the last day was turtle, turtle--tortoise and hare.) We will have fewer than 10 kids, I predict but that will be okay. I am sore from the weight machines so didn't go to the gym--I'll get a walk later.

Anne--hope things settle soon!

Betsy--your roads sound awful! DD3 has a few intersections like that--one where you can't hardly make the left turn and you block ALL traffic till you do! She was going to call and tell someone--not her group's doing--but she forgot. I have driven down a one-way the wrong way--they CHANGED it on me and I didn't know it! Scary but dealt okay. And I hope DH eyes don't get any worse. Guess he should ask when it is an emergency and when not.

Cathy--DD3 has to take her professional engineer exam--she passed the first one but the 2nd is after working for 4 years (since she has her masters) under another PE. Since she will be supposedly designing roads and bridges, those folks must be certified as knowing what they are doing. She actually wears a pinkie ring given to her by her engineering society to remind her and all other civil engineers that they have an obligation to protect the public in their designs! So when she passes, she will be a full-fledged engineer, will get a bonus and will be more employable. Engineers with the 3-5 years of experience are also the most sought after so she may get another job offer or 3! Since she didn't really have any options when she got this one, it would be nice to be wooed a bit! But I think she'll stay with this company but might try to move to CO.

Hubby has asked me out to lunch! I will make soup for supper--tradition! Yesterday, practice grand (PGD) pretty much stayed upstairs--had a slight fever and headache but the sleeping seemed to make it much better. As far as I know, she is at school today.

Anne, Happy Halloween! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon Will you be home for trick or treating? I doubt it but if you are , do you live in an area where you get many trick or treaters? Our neighborhood is older but there's a group with a tractor and trailer ( like a hayride) that parks along our street and at least 40 children get off and ring doorbells. Our little ghosts and goblins are allowed to "visit" between 5 and 8 PM so the dinner hour is shot. We'll have salad, mozzarella puffs and tomato soup but we definitely won't be able to eat together.

Dianne, I do and don't see the point of being "alone" at Mass due to State regulations but for Heaven's sake, it is not like you are taking the person outside of the building! You are a saint to take care of children when they are ill, I hope you don't catch whatever the little one had.
I have been thinking of your daughter whenever we are on the road because we have over the top construction going on very close to our home right now and it is insane even for Wisconsin. Accidents have happened because there was no notification of a 4 way stop at the road getting out of our area to the left of us, there's a roundabout going in at the road to get out on the right of us, there are barrels everywhere with constant lane changes on the main drag, the bridge to get to town is down to northbound only and NOW there is a Do Not Enter sign but there wasn't when DD2 drove down it the WRONG WAY! emoticon Thank God it wasn't a busy time of day and the person coming at her wasn't too close and was able to wait for her to get turned around ( I still don't know how she did that.) We have an alternative exit that's nearby but now that's closed too! I am so glad I work at home!
We have a TON of leaves already down but still have more to come. Leaf pick up was to start last Monday so who knows when we'll get it, should be soon. It definitely isn't December second!

Cathy, DH did speak with the person at the retina office and he has an appointment on Friday unless things get even worse and then we have to go wherever they are. I am concerned about this because the general rule is if there's a veil of floaters, it is an emergency and you are instructed to come in immediately. He has a veil of floaters in the center of his eye! Hopefully they will improve and he can last until his appointment. The doctor is not the one he usually sees so I don't know if they are expanding or changing over, will be interesting to find out. You mentioned craziness at the other end of the building, are you in a K-12 school and you are referring to elementary students or regular ed HS students?

Terri, do you get any trick or treaters that aren't your grands? DD2 was really mad last night when she figured out she would miss half of trick or treating due to her work schedule. I told her to imagine she was a parent and how difficult that would be. Interesting how perspective changes as an adult.

I went to an Aspiring Women event last night with a friend and the topic was stress. I had heard most of it before but it was a good refresher and nice to get out.

May you receive more treats than tricks today!

Betsy, the screen light would have been too much for your dilated eyes so glad you waited to post. Glad you are okay and hopefully none of those other things will occur. Hope the doctor was able to see your dh and that they didn't give him grief for leaving with a doctor's appointment.
Dianne, that is crazy---you won't be "alone" sitting at the Mass with her---geez---but I guess someone has talked someone out of something valuable and they are being extra careful. Not that you would do it but bad people make it hard for us good guys. Hope your dd can take her test earlier rather than later and glad she is doing more stuff that involves her major now rather than a technician job. What does she get if she passes this test? Would she get a raise at work and maybe an advancement?
Teacher overslept yesterday---I actually woke her up at 8:15 when I texted her---she didn't arrive for an hour---she lives that far away---she had already been up and dressed but fell back asleep. She needs to stop working the extra job and concentrate on this one.
Going to be a long day as I didn't sleep well again---so hoping to take a nap when I get home.

Hi! I went to stay with the oldest practice grand today--she wasn't feeling good so stayed home from school. I got to the Y to do the weight machines for my workout. I was told today I can't go to Mass with the one gal since I am "alone with her outside the unit". I would be sitting in the dining area for Mass....Terri--your words are good--I need to figure out what I want to do because this isn't working for me and I doubt that it is working for them. Wish there was a list of what I could or could not do.

Sun is shining today--really lovely outside! I should go get the hoses put away....but I am here instead!

Betsy--glad things are okay for you. Hope all is okay with DH--will he be able to leave school if they have an appointment? Our leaves have not fallen either -- we have till 12/2 before they will come and pick up.

Cathy--DD3 did enjoy the Disney on Ice--not sure what the show was but it was fun. She is now doing more engineering work instead of technician work--that is a good thing. She hasn't found out yet if she can take her final PE exam in April or if she needs to wait till Sept--I think that is 2020 but she will need to start studying because she doesn't do most of what they will test on--she is doing traffic, not other Civil Engineering things.

Anne--glad you are popping in! Miss you!

Good Morning! I wanted to give my eye report last night but the numbed and dilated eyes made it difficult to see. The doctor said what I was experiencing happens from time to time and unless it gets suddenly worse or becomes a veil blinding partial vision I should be Ok as my retinas are fine, what a relief! emoticon Eye pressures were 4 and 9 so that's amazing and distance vision is still almost perfect so reading glasses are all I need. I said, "Thank you, God" many times on the ay home and am still thinking it today. That said, there is never a dull moment around here because DH sent a message a few minutes ago stating that he is having trouble with floaters in his right eye. If he is mentioning it, that's not good. The retina doctor isn't local today so if he needs to be seen we have to drive somewhere in the 100 mile range, sigh.

Anne, thank goodness things will be improving for you soon. It was great to hear from you !

Terri, we crunch up our leaves with a mower as well but ours are on the side of the road waiting for the Village to come suck them up with their truck, at least the ones that have fallen. We think they delayed the truck due to the snow we got when DS was here. we are glad they haven't come yet because we still have leaves that haven't fallen.

Dianne, my guess is they will have Mass on Thursday because it is a Holy Day but if they have a priest available, maybe they will do one on Wednesday as well. I am glad to know I wasn't wrong that Trunk or Treat is a relatively new thing.

Cathy, teaching other cultures is extremely important, I'm so glad you get to do that. Have you seen the movie Coco? It would be perfect for your lesson. What do you mean they fuss at Reagann for normal child behavior? She is rewarded for being good all the time? I loved Disney on Ice as a child and was thrilled that all of our children got to see Toy Story on Ice. Sorry your hip is bothering you so much.

My timer went off so I need to get ready for my one year olds. Have a terrific Tuesday! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Dh just messaged again and things aren't going well so I will be calling the retina office after 8 and requesting that they call him, sigh. The silver lining is the local office IS open today so that's a relief!

Betsy, hope nothing major wrong with your eyes. But I do know what a pain those flashes can be and floaters can be very annoying---I still have some but not as bad as before but the other day they were really acting up. Glad you get a break from the heavy boy.
Dianne, I wouldn't go help celebrate Halloween anywhere---it's bad enough to do it at school--but I am teaching the kids about Dias de los Muertos on Thursday. The teacher will be absent so I would teach anyhow. Since we have 2 hispanic kids in the room, it is good thing to share other cultures---and I like the fact that this is to honor their dead relatives and tell stories of past adventures by these people. I don't think Michael saw as many Disney On Ice as the older boys but he got to see them at least once. Shari takes Reagann---I usually give her some money for a souvenir so they don't fuss at her too much. I don't know how she gets to enjoy anything the way she is fussed at for normal child behavior.
Woohoo! So glad to hear from you, Anne. Hoping in 2 weeks things are much better for you---but then all the Holiday prep stuff starts---LOL Are you going to go visit this year for the holidays or go another time when it is cheaper to go?
Terri, I know you are thrilled that you will get to see and hold the 2 new ones since they haven't been part of Christmas for a while. Maybe the mom is finally growing up some and realizing what she is missing out on. The tarp on top will speed up the break down some but it also needs some moisture. Does your son use a tarp or does he use heavy landscape material that lets some moisture thru?
Decent day, good pool workout, but my legs killed me last night so I didn't sleep well---so aggrevating---hopefully they will feel better today as I take more meds. Using ice on my hip this morning again---I really do need to get another shot in this one hip.

We have a quiet house this morning, except that Steve turned on the news first thing. I can sit in silence for hours, but he likes to have the TV on for a while. Then he'll go outside and leave it on. I try to remember to turn it off or to a music station when he leaves.

We were going to rake up the leaves under the maple tree, but then Steve decided to mow over them with the bag on the mower. That worked well and he then dumped the leaves in the garden area to add to the rest of the layers of decomposing straw, leaves and cardboard. The mower chopped them up enough to aid in breaking them down. We had thought about covering the whole area with plastic for the winter, but I don't think we will now unless we can find a heavy mil plastic for a good price. DS1 does this in his garden and says it's great for keeping the weeds down and his soil is amazing.

Dianne, I don't think anyone enjoys conflict, but going to talk to T about things at the home as they relate to your time and service shouldn't have to be a confrontation. If what you want is to understand and be understood, your attitude will be right when you approach the subject. If you have already decided that she's not doing her job right or that she is threatened by you in some way, she is probably picking up that vibe. On the other hand, if there are certain protocols for volunteers and their contact with the residents, then she should have made you aware of them so that the boundaries would be clear. If either or both of you are suspicious of the other or are making assumptions without addressing them, nothing will get better; rather, it will suck all the joy out of your time with the folks, and/or fester until you give up and go elsewhere. That would be sad for everyone.

Time for me to get off the computer and start my day. I hope you're all looking forward to a good week.

Hi all! Things are still pretty hectic...hopefully for the next two weeks, then it should be back to normal hectic, lol! I am enjoying the Following Christ series that has had me preoccupied and am glad it only requires dessert planning for food. However, I'm also a table host, so I need to be prepared for each week's set of "lesson" plans. Only 2 weeks left.
My boss is doing very well healing from her rotator cuff surgery and has been taking a few shifts/week...my load is being lightened!
I have a couple of visits to make today, as well as a number of calls. If I have time, I'll try to pop back on and play catch up!
Have a great Monday!

Morning! Trunk or Treat was okay--we only had about 25 kids come through and many of them belonged to people who also brought a trunk! We certainly didn't have this when my kids were little--the first I ever really heard of it was after Hurricane Sandy--we didn't have regular trick or treating that year. Betsy--if I get 10 kids coming here, that is a lot. We used to get more when my kids were little but the neighborhood has grown up and there aren't many kids. But 2 house sold and we should have a few kids again so I have pretzels to give out--the mini packs are good for lunch boxes or treats for me--better than candy anyway!

I got to the gym at 7 today--took that class but she ended early so I did time on the bike. I am reading a book on my phone and got into it so missed the end of my workout! LOL Lunch today with a friend and then trying to get a handle on Christmas stuff so I can get that all ordered/wrapped/shipped.

Betsy--I did watch the game--as hubby said, why didn't he take a knee in the end zone? Oh, well--at least it wasn't a blowout. Hope the 2 days with Landon helps you heal! I hope you eye is explained and easily "fixed". And I hope you have good weather on Wed! I did see photos of my brother and his girlfriend--she was the little school girl and he was the "professor" with a tweed jacket, black rimmed glasses and gray hair glued to his bald head! I even saw his chin--guess he starts his beard every fall. Anyway--hard to believe it was him!

Cathy--we will be home Wed night--I am trying to decide what to do about the home on Wed--I don't want to be there for Halloween but that is "my day". Guess I need to find out if they are having Mass on Tuesday--I can go then and take one gal who really enjoys going to Mass but no one has time to stay with her so I am "okay" to do that. Glad your dinner was nice!

Terri--I hope the visit at Christmas is great--it will be nice to see the DGGDs. Good luck with all the sewing. Glad you got so much put away before the kids left--I am sure a good time was had by all. Two weeks--you will get lots done before you head "home". My DD3 got home safely last night from CA--she had fun visiting her sister and they also visited a few places in SF. My oldest said the youngest is a "giggly drunk". I don't think she got "drunk" but 1-2 is enough to make her giggly. They did go see Disney on Ice--we had taken the oldest when she was an only--guess the baby never did get to go.

Sunny here today--and supposed to be in the 50s and warming to 60s by the end of the week. Guess I should order the mulch and put that down soon!!

Cathy, I would be sad if we didn't get any trick or treaters. The best part for me is seeing my alumni as they usually stay and visit for a little while. I am glad your turkey turned out well and cleaning wasn't a problem. I wish I could say that! Leftover sandwiches are great, enjoy!

Terri, you are too funny being excited about having two MORE nighties to sew when you already have so many! Good for you for not anticipating drama. Obviously , even if there's been trouble in the past, this dgd is comfortable with you because she asked to stay with you. I can only hope to have a grandchild stay here someday.

Dianne, our Pack held out against an undefeated team until a huge mistake by one player lost the game, boo! How was trunk and treat?

My eye has gone up and down on causing me grief so I am going in this afternoon, don't know what the outcome will be but it is unsettling. Hopefully I will have good news next time I post.

Have a marvelous Monday. Landon Moose is only coming two days this week as his mother has some vacation days she needs to use up so that is a perk for me.

Betsy, your town looks about the same size as mine but I think a lot were out Christmas shopping. I am not used to crowds when shopping---LOL---plus I had Dh with me---he really is no fun to shop with except for grocery shopping---he seems to like that---he goes often enough without me for that. Nice that you got to see your past priest. Do they have a home for retired priests or do they just get to choose a parish to live at? Sounds like a nice number for that dinner. English teachers have a lot of papers to grade and do need quiet for that.
Dianne, I am not a fan of that either but it is safer then letting kids roam from house to house. WE plan on not being home Wednesday night--it is our night for the pool anyhow. We haven't gotten any visitors in the past years anyhow.
Terri, sounds like you enjoyed the kids for the short time and they are well trained to help clean up. Sounds like a nice plan for the next 2 weeks and then you head home to clean the house up on the mountains. I bet the dog enjoyed having the kids to play with, too.
The turkey was good. The boys ate well. And I had been keeping up with most of the clean up before they got here so that was nice to not have a ton of stuff to clear up. We did fill the dishwasher and have a few more things to go in when it is run. Packaged up most of the meat for future meals except some I kept out for sandwiches for me this week. Dh prefers not to be overloaded with turkey---LOL I even baked an extra dressing to freeze for us to have another day, too.
Back to work today. One full week to work and then I have a 4 day weekend but have lots of plans already for it.

We were up and moving early this morning. The kids folded blankets, packed their clothes, gathered their toys and paraphernalia. We had enough time tol roll up the sleeping bags and fold up the cots and put them away too, so that was less for us to do when we got home. We left about 10 minutes later than I'd wanted to, but made it to the terminal just as DS2 and DIL got to the sidewalk, so it was perfect. We stopped and had brunch with them before parting ways, so were able to stretch our visit a little bit. Steve let me stop at Joann's on the way home to look for a pattern. I didn't find the one I want from the brand that's on sale right now, but I did pick up a new apron pattern and some fabric to make it. Time to clear away the canning and get to sewing!

We plan on being here for two more weekends. I want to attend Bible study with the ladies as many times as possible before we leave for the winter, so we'll leave a week from Tuesday, I imagine. Enough time for one more evening with the neighbors, one more visit with aunt and Dad--then home to see the rest of my kids.

I got a message from my eldest dgd, asking if they could stay at our house over Christmas this year with their two little girls. My gr. granddaughters don't know us at all, so I'm looking forward to having the time with them. I just hope things go well, because there is often tension with this one. I'm not going to anticipate it, though. I'm going to assume that everything will be wonderful and not look for drama ahead of time. It gives me two more little nighties to sew, too!

Dianne, hopefully the Pack will fare better than the Badgers. Since the Dodgers knocked the Brewers out of the Series, we have been rooting for Boston and I did watch some of the longest world series game ever but went to bed before the fifteenth inning started. Those poor guys played 18 innings so that was really two full games. They best the record for the longest game by almost two hours! I didn't think of it but my sis-in-law used to be the head of food and beverage for the Summerfest grounds and she wondered if they closed the concession stand or if they had enough food and drink to stay open. The fans seemed happy so I think they stayed open for the whole seven hours and 20 minutes of the game!

Cathy and Dianne, I like shopping on weekends but I am guessing I am in a smaller area than you. Since I only see day care families during the week, shopping is a social activity for me. DH goes with me so that's nice too. I do hope you are both right and she gets extra credit for effort in her math class.

Dianne, did your children participate in Trunk and Treat growing up? I only learned of it recently. You said ugh to volunteering today but I bet it will be fun once you get there. Next year let somebody else have the fun. Good luck earning your free food with grocery purchases. We bought grocery gift cards periodically throughout the year to help with the increased cost of the holiday season. DH also received a $100 gift card as a gift from his former principal and he wants to use that toward the purchase of prime rib for Christmas dinner.

We had a great surprise this morning at church as Fr. Don who was our parish priest from 1986-2001 presided over the Mass. He has recently retired and moved back to our area so I suspect we will be seeing him from time to time.

Here's another joke from the same book I used before.
A man walks into a bar with a chunk of asphalt under his arm and says, "Beer please, and one for the road." emoticon

Morning! We didn't have too much storm by noon--but it did keep raining. DD2's race got moved to next Sat--did I tell you that? And DD1 and 3 did a race in SF--DD3 said she now has 2 blisters from the visit! She goes home today. Hope they had fun--didn't hear anything much.

Betsy--Badgers lost a hard one. Oh, well--so they drop in the polls and may not play in any big bowls. I guess my 2 nephews went to the LaCrosse/Plattville football game--my brother and his gf made that happen. (One is at LaX, the other at Plattville) Hope the math keeps going well--if she is trying, she may just pass that class! Like Cathy said, there is sometimes a C for effort! Glad DD1 might get her advanced degree paid for -- that would be great. And yes, don't make too many changes till you see how things are done.

Cathy--I am so glad that I don't have to go shopping on weekends anymore! Especially the grocery store! We have to spend $400 to get a free turkey--used to be $200. I did ask DD2 to use my card at her store to help me get the $400--then I can get a free vegetable lasagna for our Christmas with her.

Well--time to go get ready for Trunk and Treat. Ugh but I said I would...

The Harvest Dinner was nice, five out of six sons and one of two daughters were in attendance along with three grandchildren and two daughter-in-laws, a total of 11. Eleven is a small group for our family but it was nice because we really got a chance to converse with everyone. DD1 did go home because she really wanted to sleep in her own bed and get more accomplished today than she would have had she stayed here.
Cathy, enjoy that pre Thanksgiving dinner.

Today's plan remains the same, menu planning and shopping with a touch of decluttering thrown in. I have noticed that as I target rooms, I don't completely finish them but they look SO much better when I stop and will be much easier when I decide to target them again. Right now we are going to Mass. Have a special Sunday!

Dianne, so true that the roads are slippery with leaves at this time of year---but with all the wind yesterday, hoping some of them have been blown away. Dh says he only found one branch down yesterday but that was really before the wind picked up in the afternoon. That lady sounds amazing.
Betsy, first year is always tough and a big transition from the kind of kids she was working with in the past. Glad they have funding for her advanced degree. Our county pays for teachers to get their degrees just that way--they pay first and then they reimburse them according to the grade--an A gets 100% back, 90% for a B, but I don't think they go lower. And here you can get a Master's equivilency that counts where you don't have to do a paper----a lot of teachers do it that way. The ones who want to possibly teach at a college level go for a degree in their major but others do education or administration. A lot go for administration because it pays more money but there are only so many jobs in that---but either way they get a nice pay raise when they reach having an advanced degree. Glad dd2 is getting help and the teacher appreciates her trying--maybe he will pass her with a C because of that--I swear that is what my college algebra teacher did for me because he knew I really was getting help and trying.my hardest. Hope you find time to get that box out of harms way--LOL
I decided my bedroom needed some revamping---eorganized my shelf closet, got my winter shoes out and put away the sandals, and a much needed dusting. We went shopping in the afternoon---I really need to go when I get off work instead of on weekends----LOL--too busy for my liking. I did pick up a few things for Christmas presents. My legs did not like all the walking around though so I paid for that last night. Can't seem to win right now but it might have been the new meds I am trying.
Turkey is in the oven as I type---I am looking forward to eating that today---need to fix dressing to make with it this afternoon and dh will want corn pudding---a precursor to Thanksgiving in a month. Gosh, hard to believe that is that soon. I did get some things put away on the table but then I came home and put the stuff on the table again so I need to store them away for the holiday.

Dianne, Landon's hearing was the very first thing checked and it was fine. I know it was done because DH had his audiology appointment right after Landon's so we saw them at the clinic! I don't know what was up with the right shoulder but that has passed and the pain is back on the left side where it is expected. He did ask for a drop today so I happily gave it to him and gently suggested he should not go cold turkey. Refreshing drops would be good for his eye anyway since it is prone to dryness from surgery. I completely understand not liking confrontation, I am the same way.

DH's dad died in 1981 but there is still an annual dinner in his honor that we call the Harvest Dinner. His mother is now included in memory as well. DD1 came home for the dinner a few hours ago but she and DD2 are studying at a campus coffee shop right now as DH naps. He made his famous soda bread this morning per request of the hostess to go with her Hungarian meatballs. It should be an interesting evening. We were hoping DD1 would spend the night but she plans to go back to her own place. I have her bed ready in case she changes her mind. Dd1 is still adjusting to the new school but she is thrilled that she can get a higher degree and they have a grant to pay for it. She'll pay up front but she'll get the money back within the semester! This is a learning year and next year she will begin trying to make some changes. DD2 is struggling with math as always but the teacher appreciates the fact that she is doing her homework because many others aren't even attempting to do so. She has been more vigilant in reaching out to tutors on her own so I am very happy for that. There's one girl on her staff at work that is apparently good at math and may be able to help her. I told her to ask Jenny and see how it goes. If she felt it was helpful, I do have money set aside from her college fund to pay for the tutoring. This is important because Jenny is struggling to make ends meet so I really hope she can do it. DD2 gave her five dollars and some food last weekend to help her out.

Cathy, maybe you shouldn't give Howard a choice and just make the cookies! Believe it or not, an extra child can come in very handy as a buffer. I was longing for my Dela when Travis and Dane had been together less than an hour! All day long I was finding things for them to do in different areas, even outside! DD2 noticed that Dane likes to push Trav's buttons and get him riled and she's absolutely right. For that reason, I brought Trav upstairs with me while the babies napped and let Dane stay downstairs and play with the kinetic sand. I got both boys outside for two hours so I am presuming they slept well last night. We will do our menu planning and weekly shopping tomorrow plus I hope to get back to some decluttering. I have a box ready to go and Trav REALLY wanted to get into it yesterday so it needs to get OUT.

I have load two of sheets in the dryer and darks in the washer. I think I will go make up all the Pack n Plays so they are ready for Monday. How about that? The dryer just sounded it's finished, perfect timing! Here's hoping everyone is having a healthy and happy weekend. emoticon

Morning! We have .6 inches of rain already--and it has been windy! All the roads have green leaves on them--need to be careful driving. We got out to the gym--I did the step class with the 80+ year old teacher! And I can't keep up!

Cathy--glad you also have to clear the table again and again! LOL I am hoping to get to the basement--I want to go through some stuff and find a few things I can give to a teacher friend. I also have to think about Christmas and finalize what I am getting. Disney is taking care of most of the shopping! Those tickets are not cheap!

I am going to get my shower and then figure out when I need to start the pork loin--that will be good with little potatoes. Hope everyone stays warm and dry. DD2's run got postponed to next week so she is baking today. And DD1 and 3 are running together in CA--hope they have fun!

Betsy, that is right--and that is our favorite cake here at home, too. LOL Although I do like other cakes, too. I love to bake but don't do a lot because of dh being diabetic plus I DO NOT need it either. But soon I will be busy baking Christmas cookies as I share them with others. Plus dh's birthday is in November so I am going to ask him if he wants the banana bread cookies or a cake---the cookies are better for him so hoping he picks that. Always another thing with our dhs. Hope your dh's bp has been coming down---pain does make it higher and my dh has been having more back pain which is probably contributing to his increase. He goes back to the pain management doctor at the end of November and I am thinking he will be having another procedure on his back soon. I can't believe you actually wanted another child on a Friday----LOL Our kids were pretty good yesterday and enjoyed free time on the tablets---and we get to keep the set of IPads in the classroom from now on for their use---we might occasionally need to let another teacher use them but I won't have to go back and forth getting them now. We use them for lots of things---reading and listening to stories, science videos, math, etc. And they get to use them for their free time after lunch.
Do you have lots of plans for this weekend?
Dianne, the pork loin sounds good, too. Are you getting much of this rain? It's been raining all night here but should clear around lunch time here but still be windy. Any plans for this weekend?
I do need to clean off the dining room table---again! and some cleaning in the kitchen before I mess it all up again---LOL---also need to clean my bedroom and put away the summer sandals. Hope to get out and do a bit of Christmas shopping.

Morning! I just got home from the gym--the pool class felt really good today--got some stretching in the water!

You all have good advice about dealing with T--I just don't enjoy the confrontation part. I am contemplating going to another place but I am connected to some of these people. So--still torn as to what to do. But thanks for listening and suggesting!

Betsy--Have they checked Landon's hearing? Just a thought--maybe he needs tubes. My DD2 started talking much more after getting the tubes--also made the constant infections go away! Glad that J is doing better with his eye--but now what is up with the shoulder? I also want to know how DD1 likes the new school and how DD2 is doing with her math.

Cathy--glad you got to see some folks and found the service good. Turkey does sound good but I have a pork tenderloin that I will fix tomorrow during the rain! They are talking about flash flooding again. I moved my table/chairs and plants so I am ready for fall. Just need to deal with the hoses.

Terri--I love that you have all those folks to eat your baking! I'd love to do more baking but neither of us need it! Hope the kids enjoy being around you two again--I'm sure they will. And find them some chores--they need to be busy and contribute. I think that is a problem--most kids do NOT contribute to the home any more--they need chores to do.

Well--I get the practice grands today--we are going to start working on Christmas gifts for the parents. I told them (and the parents) way back when that WHAT we were making was a secret but they could tell people we had a secret about Christmas. They should NOT keep other stuff secret from Mom and Dad--but they didn't have to tell them the present. Don't want to encourage them to keep secrets from the folks.

Hugs to all!

Cathy, does chocolate chocolate mean chocolate cake with chocolate frosting? That sounds delicious and it's great that you were able to keep a small cake for you and Howard. thanks for reminding me that DH needs to keep having the school nurse check his BP, it was really high on his initial trip to the ER last month but has been coming down slowly. yesterday he was asleep in the recliner and wincing in pain but this time it's the right shoulder so we don't know if it is related to his palsy or not. He did take medication as soon as he woke up. I can't believe it's taken you this long to start a Christmas countdown! emoticon emoticon

Terri, zucchini apple bread sounds delicious, I hope you get to keep some for yourself. DD1 makes excellent pie crust right in the pan but she doesn't like it as she prefers Pilsbury, silly girl! How old is Clara now? I used to love playing with my stuffed animals too and I slept with ALL of them, clutching one and the rest above my pillow while I curled up at the bottom of the bed. I think you should practice until you get the pie crust just right, I have faith that you can do it!

Dianne, did you watch any of The Great American Read on PBS? I recorded it and watched the countdown from 100-1 last night. I discovered my guess was correct for number one but I won't give it away in case anyone else has it recorded and doesn't know yet.

Today will be interesting as I will have Travis and Dane with me all day in addition to Landon and Nellie. Dane was supposed to stay at home with his mother on her day off but he wanted to see me, isn't that sweet? I was hoping for Dela as well to have the old gang back together but she'll be at home with her grandpa and her brother today.

Have a great kickoff to your weekend! emoticon

Dianne, that is just nonsense. If you don't want to do that kind of stuff, tell her---after all, you are a volunteer. Sounds like she is not organized and doesn't want anyone to see it. Tell her you want to be with the clients and that they need attention more than they need marked pumpkins. Yes, we are getting the storm---supposed to start shortly after I get home from school---hope it does hold out that long.
Betsy, it was a chocolate chocolate cake---it turned out nicely---haven't done a 2 layer cake in a while. And we are enjoying a small cake of our own from the leftover mix. Things sound good for your dh. If I don't stay ahead of headache pain, I really pay for it later, esp. if overnight headache---they seem to be the worse for me--if I wake up with the start, if I don't get up and take something and fall back to sleep, when I wake up I can barely stand it. The service yesterday was wonderful--what a wonderful celebration of life it was. And I did see lots of people I knew but didn't get to speak to that many as I came home after the service---it was an hour and a half long. I will freeze most of the turkey into packages for other times but will see if anyone wants to come over for dinner this weekend.
Terri, so I am guessing you made the zuchinni/apple bread for your aunt and the kids. There is a pie crust recipe that uses cream cheese that I heard turns out good each time---but I forget what team posted that and I wish I had saved it to share with you. Try googling it. Nice that Steve took them to the airport--guess he wasn't up to dealing with kids that morning--LOL
Dh has to switch bp meds--his top number was 150, bottom number was fine---but we had to go buy an at home bp cuff to do readings as the doctor doesn't want the meds to drop it too much--thankfully i could use my flex plan for that--although we got one for $50. So after I ate lunch, we went to get the meds and the cuff. We did end up at Big Lots to look at the Christmas stuff there---now it is less than 2 months until Christmas.
Back to work today but it's a casual day so that is nice---and hopefully this fun Friday is a bit more fun than the previous ones.

The kids arrived at about 10:30 last night and then we got the grands to bed and talked until midnight. Steve has gone with them to the airport and will drive their car back here. I'm baking this morning and then will pack up the kids and do some running around.

I have a spider plant that I potted for my dad's lady friend and some Italian tortellini soup to take to our aunt, who is still in a wheelchair as she heals from her broken ankle, and some metal and plastic to recycle at the dump--so the kids and I will get some visiting done while making our deliveries and errands. For now, the boys are exploring the hillside, reclaiming the trails they made last spring and Clara is quietly playing with her stuffed animals.

I started processing apples a couple of days ago and made a big batch of apple butter from the Granny Smith's I bought when we visited Apple Hill with my friend and her grandsons. I still have about a third of a the box left and started peeling and coring them this morning. I'm not sure what I want to do with them. I don't make good pie crust, but would like to bake hand pies. Maybe I just need to do it and keep making crust until I get it right. I did that with bread many years ago. It took a while to get that right. Meanwhile, I need to do something with that shredded zucchini and have a recipe for apple/zucchini bread and can take some more to share with Dad and Auntie when we go out today. Ha--I think I just answered my own question!

Dianne, can't you just have a sit-down with T and tell her that you're getting some vibes that make you feel unwelcome and get it out in the open? Maybe she's feeling like you're overstepping in some way and doesn't know how to address it. Communication is so awkward sometimes, but if there's some perceived "turf violation" on her part, it would be so much better to just get it out. If she wants you there, but only to do things that keep you away from the clients, then you can let her know that you want to help but that your heart is with the folks. So if it's not a good fit, you can move on or come in when she's not there. At least you won't be speculating or assuming things that may or may not be true, and she'll know where you stand.

I would NOT be a good sub. I have too short a fuse for nonsense and can't tolerate disrespect. I do like to teach, but my motto is "Get in line or go home". No one has the right to rob an entire group of their opportunity to learn.

Betsy, it sounds like J is coming out of the effects from the palsy very well. The ability to blink and close that eye is so important! I'm glad his headaches are subsiding as well, but Cathy's right that he should try to stay ahead of the pain if he can. I understand not thinking about taking meds until it really hurts, though. Normally, we just continue to work until we can't ignore it any longer, hoping that it will go away on its own. It often does, but probably not in his situation when there's an ongoing process that's causing the pain. I'm very glad that his nerves are regenerating, though! How is K doing with her Math class? Is DD1 liking her new school and bonding with her students?

Cathy, DH came home earlier than usual on Tuesday to mow the lawn with the riding tractor. I told him he couldn't do it unless he bought a pair of goggles so he promptly went out and bought a pair! He was so focused on yard work that he forgot about the cookies until he saw me preparing all the dry ingredients so he/we could get started right after supper. If I hadn't made them or said anything, he probably would have gotten up at two or three AM to make them and that would have been the end of a good night's sleep for both of us! I love to bake and was happy to send the finished product out the door. I thought I posted the recipe last year but I will check and if not, I will post it. Yes, Landon should be feeding himself, I'd be happy if he would eat something besides Cheerios with his fingers. Brand new one year old Nellie eats by herself! Landon loves to eat the tiniest specks of absolutely anything off the floor unless it is a wet food. if it was wet, he'll ignore it or throw it. His mother informed me she will be keeping him home next Wednesday through Friday and all of Thanksgiving week so I'll get a break and my body is thankful! What size turkey are you planning to make? Will you freeze a lot of it or share with a group of people? I agree that Dianne would make a good sub but do better in a mainstream classroom. You have the power to say no as a sub so I agree with your plan to get on the list and be selective, the extra money would be handy. We have a friend who only accepts long term sub positions in the elementary schools and there are enough maternity leaves and joint replacements to keep him very busy. What kind of cake did you make for Nancy? I'm sorry you have to attend a funeral today but hopeful you will connect with some old friends to make the day more pleasant.

Dianne, I wonder what T would say if you told her you promised Bob you'd play a game with him or that you volunteered to spend time with the residents. I know you are connected to some of the clients but there has got to be another facility that would welcome your talents and ability to spend time with the people. After all, people are more important than things! Landon has been evaluated by me and by the Birth to Three staff. I have been gently suggesting things for months but they really baby him. As usual, once a doctor mentions something, action results. As far as I know he has only qualified for speech and language assistance as he does not speak recognizable words at all. Months ago he said, "go,go,go" as he ran around but that passed and never came back. The hope is that once he can speak he won't be so frustrated and things will fall into place. We'll see... you definitely made the right decision on the event this weekend, it's supposed to be rainy here too.

Terri, I hate carrying a purse too, seems none of us like it. I try to keep mine in my lap if we are at a restaurant or some type of event. I purposely buy purses with long straps so I can wear them "cross body" style. Enjoy the grands!

DH can close his eye to sleep now so I am no longer sleeping with a pirate! He can wink and blink but winking takes effort and blinking isn't regular yet but it will be. My sister reported a bit of help from her medication so hopefully that will continue to give her relief and she can celebrate her birthday in style two weeks late. I have noticed that my eye doesn't like going from light to dark at all and when we went out to look at the full moon last night, the lightning effects in there were raging. My appointment cannot come fast enough! That is the end of the health report, good grief! I look forward to a day when medical issues are not front and center in my family's life.

I noticed Anne popped on to say hello this morning, good to hear from her. Have a wonderful day! emoticon

Betsy, that is a good sign that no meds were needed for that long---but do remind him to be proactive and take something the minute he starts to feel any pain so it doesn't get too bad. He might need extra rest for quite a while. Good thing you didn't mind baking the cookies. Of course you had to sample to make sure they were fit to eat---LOL---can you post that recipe some time? Force feeding Landon is not normal---like you said, if he is hungry, he will eat and he is big enough that some small meals now and then won't hurt him at all. Some kids are really picky eaters. My oldest went thru that faze, but he was so skinny that the doctor said she didn't care if all he wanted was candy, we had to put some weight on him and my 2nd one was the really big one and not picky at all, except for veggies---LOL Our foreign teachers are mostly Asian but we have a few from Africa that are hard to understand, too. Comes from having a lot of foreign teachers at UMES where Michael went to college. Some of his teachers were a bit hard to understand and some of the subs are their wives. Nice people but just really not suited for the school system. Funny joke!
Dianne, glad you said no to that event--bet they might cancel anyhow with the weather. I am thinking of cooking a turkey this weekend. Need to take it out to thaw today if I am. You would make a good sub, esp. for a long term history class---but you probably would not like the behavior issues. I mentioned to Dh last night that I had always thought I would go back to subbing when I retire but nowadays I am thinking I would not be happy doing it now but we will see how it goes. I might put my name on it but be really picky about what jobs I would take.
Terri, where are they going? You will enjoy having the kids for a bit---know you have missed them. Hoping they leave during an off time for driving so you don't have to deal with rush hour traffic. I don't take my purse that often either so I have left mine in the past---after doing it 3 times in one month, I bought a very bright purse so I would find it easier---and to this day I only have bright color ones and try to put it up on the table to remind me its there--which I can do as my purses are all very small.
We went out for pizza last night after the pool and then back to Nancy's house to eat the cake I made her dh. We had a nice time and didn't get home until after 10==good thing I have off today. I did sleep in about an hour longer than I normally do but my body said it was time to get up. Will probably see a lot of people I haven't seen in years at the funeral today. Not sure if I will stay for the after service meal or not---according to if there is anyone I want to stay and visit with.
I hope the person who hit that big prize was one who really needed it after that storm down there--or at least uses some of it to help those who were hit hard down there.

Morning! Our morning started with a jolt--hubby forgot to set his alarm so got up 15 min. late with mine! I'm okay but he is running on adrenaline! I plan to get to the gym and then visit my friend and play a game.

I did get to the home yesterday--planning to play a game with Bob and then go sing. Well, T found me at 3 and was "oh, I need you" so ended up in the back. I took photos for a birthday party, stood around for 45 min and then did the trivia for a bit. T came back--I need you to help me cut out stencils for painting the pumpkins tonight. So she is cutting HUGE stencils for these tiny pumpkins--in the past, they have just painted on them with kids from a youth group but the current boss wanted them to use stencils (after saying she hadn't known about this and no one had told her--T did have a copy of the email from 6 weeks and a month ago). We ended up drawing faces on that they could paint--but I did NOTHING with my people....and next time I am "welcome" is Halloween afternoon. I am being pushed out, even though I do what they ask...

Terri--enjoy the grands! You will have fun and you'll be prepared enough! Next stop will be the log house, right?

Betsy--that joke was a good one! Bad but a good one! LOL

Hi, Cathy! Do you get the storm on Friday? I have to get the last of my plants in and move pots, tables, etc outside for the winter. That might be later today. I babysit tomorrow after school--we might bake.

Funny Betsy~

We've been busy today with getting the house ready for 4 grandkids to stay for a few days. They'll be here late tonight. Steve or I will drive DS2 & DIL to the airport in the morning while one of us stays here with the kids. I suspect that Steve will want to stay home rather than drive through the traffic.

I still need to run to town to drop off some recyclables, mail our absentee ballots, pick up some more bread and eggs, and take some of this yummy soup up to Auntie's house. I also need to stop at the restaurant where we ate lunch yesterday, as they have my purse! I hate carrying a purse and that's why--I left it under my chair and the waitress picked it up and put it in the back for me, so I need to get over there and get it today.

The joke I promised......

This guy's father dies, and he tells the undertaker he wants to give his dad the very best. So they have the funeral, and the undertaker sends him a bill for $16,000. He pays it. A month later he gets a bill for $85 , which he pays. The next month there's another $85 bill, and the next month there's another. Finally the guy calls the undertaker. The undertaker says, " Well, you wanted the best for your father so I buried him in a tux."

Morning! We have sunshine and wind--but we will get hammered by the storm on Fri night to Sunday AM--and the park is having an encampment! LOL This is the same group that came last year and they were NOT good--so in the rain, they will be AWFUL. I am so glad I said no, I wouldn't come....I think we will hunker down and bake bread or something on Saturday!

Betsy--that does not sound like a normal 2 year old to me--he should be feeding himself at least some of the time. Have they had him evaluated at all? Glad that DH is able to blink now! It is good that he is improving--maybe not as fast as you want but still getting better! I know subbing here is not very well paid considering how the kids act with a sub. I thought about doing it for the HS the girls went to but then the principal changed and I decided not to. (Teachers thought I would be good but...) I hope you are improving and I hope your sister is responding to the medication--that sounds scary.

Cathy--I cannot imagine jumping into your class without some preparation/visits in advance to learn a bit about the kids. Hope things are better again. Glad your knees are responding to the heat. I just have no oomph today--I am tired. We did not win the $$--someone in SC won. I do think we won $2 cause I had the right power ball. I think DD3 also had that number--on 2 random tickets!

Terri--busy, I am sure!

I plan to go to the home today. We get farm shares till mid November, I think. getting cilantro, sweet potatoes, greens and some other things today. Everyone take care!

Cathy, I could have a chest contusion or I could have compressed ribs as I have had that issue in the past, it's not fun either way but as long as Landon leaves me alone, I'll be ok. If it doesn't improve or gets worse, I will go to urgent care/walk in clinic, I promise. sadly, a warm body in the room is all that is needed to make the school in compliance with law. We don't have a lot of non English speakers around here so I didn't even think of that problem, that would be tough. I do know what you mean about another adult in the room making a class more difficult because I have definitely experienced that. Your use of heat on your kneesreminded me that I put a heated rice sock on DH last night and he promptly fell asleep in the kitchen chair while I finished baking his pumpkin chocolate chip cookies for school. I/we made 10 dozen and I think I only ate three or four, that's pretty good for me. He took nine dozen to school and I kept a dozen here for DD2 and the oldest day care angels. I'd give one to Landon but he would just throw it. I have to hold his hands down and spoon feed him a first bite and then if he likes it, he'll open wide. If not, I just get him out, he won't starve, he's huge ( but healthy huge.) I asked what they do at home and learned that his dad holds his hands down while his mom shovels in the food. Does that sound normal for a 21 month old to any of you? Also, he is strong and it takes TWO of them to feed him so I think I need a raise for doing it by myself! Back to school, when Act 10 happened, our teachers lost their payout for sick days and it was $50 a day! DH has a lot of days accumulated but it's harder to plan for a sub than it is to work so he goes unless things are quite dire or we have a planned appointment out of town.

Dianne, you are a true example of "experiences rather than things" or "making memories." Disney is very expensive but I love that you are going as a family of adults ( as Cathy will be ) and won't have to worry about so many issues that parents of little ones do. I often wonder about people who bring really young ones that cry, are scared, need naps, etc. is it worth it? It was even difficult for us when we were there because DD2 was on growth hormone so sleep was vital and ruled how much time we could be away from our cabin (we stayed at the Wilderness Resort) and DD1 sprained her ankle and foot the week before so walking was difficult and she refused a wheelchair/crutches. We wouldn't have gone at that time but it was all paid for ( except food and even some of that was) by my sister-in-law.
I am glad to know that I am not the only "baby" about my eyes and am in good company. How frequently do you see flashes? This is terrifying to me because I know way too much about what's happening due to my experiences with DH and DD2.

DH sent me a message yesterday that he could wink for the first time since his issues began and didn't have a headache all day. He did get one at night and took Tylenol for it before he fell asleep in the chair but he said he hadn't taken any since noon the day before so that's a very good sign! Unfortunately, it is my sister's birthday today and she is not faring real well at the moment. She sent a selfie of her face and she looks absolutely awful. I t took two trips to medical facilities, the second being an ER but they have diagnosed her with a bacterial infection called erysipelas. She has already had antibiotic and steroid shots but the infection is spreading. After she starts her oral meds today , if 48 hours pass without improvement they are going to change the diagnosis to MRSA. The poor dear said her face feels like it is on fire and anything touching it is painful so ice packs are out of the question.

Oh dear, I just noticed the time and I need to get my hair up and shoes on. Have a great day and I will post a joke later.

Betsy, we do have a sub shortage but they really can't do anything about us taking off---I rarely take a day off for me anyhow, usually for dh and my mom in the past. The sub that took my job is horrible, the teacher will send her away and tell the vp to use her elsewhere----she is foreign and hard to understand and doesn't understand the kids either and they run all over her in regular classrooms and she is more work than the kids in our room. We have a big issue with those subs but the board doesn't seem to understand that they need to test certain people to see if they speak and understand English well enough to handle the children---they just see them as a warm body in the room. And kids are so bad any more that good people soon leave the sub role---plus the schools often don't give them a break all day long and they really do need a period off just like the teachers do. So great that your dh had a very good day and hope they continue. Please go get checked out. Sounds like you have chest contusion---that takes a while to go away---like a big bruise under the skin. Dh did that one time in a fall playing baseball with the kids and it did take a while for his chest to stop hurting---and he did visit the hospital with his the next day because he thought he was having a heart attack. But like you, I put myself on hold for medical care.
Dianne, yes, it is expensive--but I do want to take my crew down there on my mom's money next year after the Star Wars stuff opens. The pay for unused sick leave is a joke---here it is $10 a day and you have to have so many to qualify--you can believe that my last year I will use a few more days than I use now. But it's nice to know that I have them if I or dh gets really sick.
I used heat on my knees last night---that did feel good. Actually feels pretty decent this morning. I do think I need another visit for shots in at least one hip soon. Going to be much cooler and we might get slammed this weekend from that California hurricane---Nor'easters can be worse for us than other storms. Hope it fizzles out.

Morning! I didn't get up with hubby today--had been cold in the night cause the top blanket got pushed off and I didn't pull it back on--but didn't know it was missing. So I woke at 7:15 and did get to the weight lifting class. We have sunshine but cool--in the 40s. Not supposed to see 60s in the foreseeable future....

Betsy--does sound like you are beat up! I hope you get a break!! I get the light flashes but, unless they change frequency, I don't need to worry--I am nearsighted so the pulling on the retina is expected as I age. I also hate eye drops and they'd have to put me UNDER to do anything with my eyes--or get me to "LaLa Land" where I would do what I'm told but not freak out!

Cathy--glad the pool helped! I agree--the movement in water seems easier on the joints and lets me stretch more. Glad you can get a day off easily--can you get paid your sick leave? I am not sure how I feel about employees getting big payouts for sick leave they didn't take. When I was at Bell Labs, we didn't have a set number of sick days and I almost never took a day for me, just when the kids needed me.

Terri--your scarecrow has lots of good points--like the pockets! Not sure it would work on the deer here--I can get within 10 feet before they take off--and then I need to charge at them! Ah, the venison that runs around here! LOL

So we bought the tickets for DisneyWorld last night--WOW they are $$$. They are THE Christmas present for the girls and SIL. I will get the garage sale things that I find, ship those to them and that will be it. Between the trip (where they do have to pay for their plane) and the cruise (ditto), they are getting LOTS in 2019! But I am also getting their company so I am happy!

Well, need to keep moving. Hope everyone is doing okay! That means you, Anne and Karen!

Cathy, that's great that you don't have to ask for a day off. If DH used a sick day and it was discovered he did something else he would be in a lot of trouble. He also had several weeks of sick days accumulated. The nice thing is that he can use them for medical reasons for other family members so most of them have been used on DD2 whether it was back when she was on growth hormone or for her eye after the car accident. Your school must not have the sub shortage that our area is experiencing. Last Friday DH took 1/2 day to go to the doctor and his first graders got a HS sub! It's not too much work to bundle up my trio at all but it is VERY hard to keep Landon out of the street and Nellie in a stroller. DD2 did get Dela out for a walk so that was great. Terri did post a picture of a wonderful scarecrow with pockets on Facebook. It holds her phone and garden tools as well! I hope your knees are feeling better today. I forgot about Biofreeze, thanks for the reminder.

Dianne, we never did the traveling sports so I don't know if they met on Sundays. I do know they met frequently on school nights and that's one of the reasons we didn't do them. I sure hope your lost item shows up.

Terri, I'll look forward to hearing from you later.

DH had a very good day yesterday so we are hopeful he'll have another one today. It is my turn to fall apart now. I have been seeing flashes of light in the right side of my right eye and knowing what that means is terrifying. I am squeamish about people putting drops in my eyes so I can't imagine laser surgery, sigh. I called the eye doctor and have an appointment for November 9 but am to come in sooner if I am nauseated or get a headache. I haven't told DH yet because I want him to focus on himself but I will in time. I am still experiencing pain from when Landon slammed into my chest with his hands full force and from when he stepped on my ankle to climb into my lap. See? Falling apart! In the meantime I continue to do my job and need to get ready so off I go. Have a terrific Tuesday!

Betsy, I don't even have to ask, I just put it in the subfinder system and I take off. I used a sick day since dh has a doctor appointment that I do wish I was going on---LOL---I could take a personal day but you have to put a reason why---they are usually approved but I have 10 weeks of sick leave so just using that. Guess with having younger children, it is too much work to bundle them up for a bit to take outside. We have a day into the 60's today but rest of week just in the 59's. Around here only travel teams play on Sunday but almost all the walks are on Sunday mornings. Wednesdays are usually no sports in the fall because that is band practice night---only if making up a rain date do they have a game. Even for the winter games, Wednesday is band night.
Dianne, I went to the pool last night---boy, did my knees need it as I have had a bad weekend with them. Glad you have a slower week except for the 2 night meetings. My week is much busier than normal.
Terri, guessing you posted the picture on Facebook? Is the garden finally ending?
Tonight I need to bake a cake for Nancy's dh's birthday and we will go out for pizza after the pool and then back to their house for cake afterwards. Plus dh goes to the eye doctor today and I told him we would go pick out glasses when I got home.
Yesterday was not a good day for my knees---thankfully I had biofreeze with me and that got me thru the day. Hoping today will be better.

We've all enjoyed the scarecrow, Dianne. I'm sure we'll build it again for future gardens. I think it helped to discourage the deer.

No time for more tonight. I'll try to pop by in the morning.

Hi! I got up, made it to the pool, and have been finding the dining room and a few other things. Spoke with DD3 on the phone--she is going to CA on Thursday to visit her sister! Terri--you haven't met DD1 or 3 but they will both be in San Jose area Fri and Sat! LOL

I thank those of you on this team who supported the CROP Walk--Id d fairly well--over $160 on-line and more than $200 in checks.I am really bummed about the bluetooth--had that niggle to leave it home but I didn't. Oh, well--put on FB that it was lost--MAYBE it will come back....

Betsy--we used to have one evening night that was not sports but I think that is gone. Out here, no way would they give up a night for church activities! My girls didn't do travel soccer because it was on Sundays. I hate that they think they can schedule things on Sunday AMs. Hope DH is continuing to get better! He wouldn't have liked the walk yesterday--way too much wind!

Cathy--I have to bring in the last out my indoor plants. The calla lilies don't show any sign of frost yet--I would like to get them dug but will wait till they die back. Can't find the gladiolas so they will have to overwinter!

Terri--LOVED your scarecrow! I really would like a garden but don't want to just feed the deer and that is what would happen! If we weren't gone for 2+ weeks in July/August I could do more in pots but....not now. If we move to an area that has garden plots, I would get one.

Quiet week for me--except I have evening meetings tonight and tomorrow. So I am trying to focus on me--getting some things done, getting exercise and healthy eating--not snacking!

Cathy, sorry to hear about the pastor's wife. It's nice that the school will allow you to take a day off to attend the funeral. As expected JB chose the Goosebumps movie and it bored me to tears but DH and JB loved it. We took him to Perkins for dessert after the movie before taking him home and then stayed home for the rest of the day. DH was really having trouble with dry eye yesterday so I gave him plenty of refreshing drops and kept him out of the wind.

Dianne, I read about your lost item on Facebook, I wish I were there to help you search for it.
emoticon to the money you raised and the food you delivered!

Terri, we never had a problem with sporting events on Sundays. Our area is very god about leaving Sundays alone so families can worship and/or rest. There is even an unwritten rule that no school activities are planned for Wednesday nights because so many children have religious education at that time. That's why DH's play practices are on Tuesdays and Thursdays instead of Mondays and Wednesdays.

It is 20 degrees now but the projected high for the midafternoon is 55,right I the middle of naptime. We probably won't get outside again until spring.

Have a marvelous Monday!

Betsy, that sounds like good news---he is lucky if he is all better in a month but will probably still need to have less stress for longer. Yuck to the nerve pain but glad tylenol helps. Hope you didn't have to do the goosebumps movie.
Dianne, that is a great time for a walk. Too bad about losing your blue tooth earpiece. Guess you will have to put that on your Christmas list. Was it windy up there? The wind here was very wild and it would have made the walk miserable if here.
Terri, just figured you were busy---I think a new laptop should be a priority for you---or at least a tablet. I love my Kindle Fire---not as expensive as an IPad but great for traveling and connecting. But not sure if you would want to do paying bills that way but i did order tickets for a show on mine yesterday.
Didn't do much yesterday after church. Did a load of laundry and paid my bills and the last 2 bills of my Mom---hospital bills. We plan on closing out the will in a couple of weeks.
I found out yesterday that a pastor's wife---the one who married us and she played the music at our wedding---passed away on Friday--so I plan on taking Thursday off to go to the funeral. Unfortunately, Dh has a doctor appointment at that time so he can't go.
Back to work---I did enjoy having 3 days off.

I had a good response post going yesterday when my laptop shut itself down. I was irritated and busy, so didn't get back. I will keep this one short since I've been Sparking for a bit and just got caught up with the reading.

Dianne, I'm sorry about the bluetooth but happy you had a successful walk I'm always glad to support your CROP walks--woohoo on the peanut butter and stuff too.

Cathy, I was always irritated with all the kids' sports events on Sundays. When I asked at a board meeting (when I was coaching Little League softball and someone tried to schedule Sunday games) "why Sundays?" the answer was that Saturday was the adults' only "day of rest". I asked if they attended church on Sundays and the answer was usually "no". I suggested that they take their day of rest on that day, while some of us were in church, since they had the entire weekend away from their jobs. Actually, the problem wasn't with Little League in those days because the organization didn't recommend Sunday games, but left it up to local clubs to decide for themselves. My boys didn't play football, but that would have been a huge issue for me had they wanted to, because ALL their games were on Sundays.

Betsy, that's great news from the doctor. I'm glad DH is recovering well, but sorry about the nerve pain he experiencing on the way.

Time to get off before the laptop eats another post. All is well here. More later.

Hi! Did the walk this afternoon (Cathy--ours starts at 2 so everyone CAN get to church) and it was nice--not too cold--but I lost my bluetooth headset. Very sad.... Our group raised over $900 and I delivered over 200 pounds of peanut butter, soup, rice and beans! So that was good.

Tired--and bummed about the loss of the headset. Going to go read.

Just a quick post because the timer is set and then we are off to Mass After that we will pick up our Little Brother, bring him here for leftover pancakes and sausage and then take him to a movie. We will let him choose between Smallfoot and Goosebumps 2, I am betting he chooses the latter. Sorry you had to wait , Cathy, I warned you what my weekend was going to be like. The doctor said he was pleased with the progress DH has made and felt he should have a 100 % recovery in one month but of course we have to wait and see. DH still has a bit of a crooked smile, can't whistle and still needs the eye patch but he looks much more normal than he id before this happened to him. DD1 was thrilled with the difference between our time in Door County three weeks ago and now. Unfortunately he woke up at 4 AM with severe jaw pain but Tylenol took the edge off. We suspect that the feeling is more of the nerve regenerating but of course we'll keep an eye on it.

Our leaf pile and other areas of the grass are still coated with snow and it is 28 degrees, brrr.
Time to finish preparing for Mass. Have a super Sunday!

Dianne, glad the ultrasound showed it was nothing.. Hope it's not too chilly for your walk. Why do they always do these things on a Sunday? I go to church so never even think about taking part in it and it makes me mad that they block off routes that I take normally---they need to do them later or on Saturdays. Did you do anything fun?
Betsy, of course we have to wait---LOL---that's your usual statement. Hope since you didn't post that it was fairly good news. Hope you enjoyed your evening.
No help showed up yesterday but I did get most of the pansies planted and a few more bulbs---I will do more of them later as they can wait. I took different meds yesterday and that seemed to help better so i wasn't so sore after I was done. I did some rearranging in the kitchen and cleaned those counters, did my laundry, and got thru several magazines so that they can be recycled.
Church today, no other plans.

We have a fresh blanket of white that came down fast and hard while we were enjoying breakfast with our children. Unfortunately the snow made the urgency to leave to get to work on time greater so we got less than an hour but we are happy for ANY time we get. Fortunately the snow has stopped so the 20-25 minute drive to the farm for Nellie's party shouldn't be too bad. The doctor appointment went well but I will tell you more about that later because I have to go buy petit fours for the Brewer game at my sis-in-law's tonight.
DD2 has arrived, have to go....

Morning! I got to the gym--and I guess it rained while I was there! Clearing up now. It is warm but is supposed to really cool off for the CROP Walk tomorrow--oh, joy.

Cathy--the ultrasound finds spots but doesn't give a picture of the whole breast--but I was really glad that they didn't need more compression photos--it did hurt this last time. Your planting sounds nice--I don't do pansies cause the deer eat them! Hope you get the help you need. The teacher did comment that he should not have brought those 2-3 boys on the trip--I certainly agree. Total disrespect to everyone--including themselves.

Betsy--good luck with all you are doing!

Terri--hope you have a good day!

Not sure what we are going to do but regardless, i need a shower!

Betsy, how did the appointment go? At least you get to see him, even if only for breakfast. My oldest is the closest to us and we rarely see of hear from him and he is only 8 blocks away from us. How did the kids do while you were gone? We did buy a couple of tickets for each one---just in case---LOL
Dianne, sounds like that test is easier than the mammogram so why can't they just do that one of us girls? Some kids should never be allowed on field trips! The calla lilies are confused from all the hot weather we had. If there is a chance of a frost, can you cover them with a bucket? We did wrap the green pepper plants in plastic---ell, draped plastic around them as we came pretty close to a bad frost the other night. We finally turned on the heat yesterday as the house was below 70.
I planted about half of my pansies and bulbs---and boy, were my knees complaining---I did finally take more meds and used the pain gel on my knees and I was able to sleep. I think the front coming also affected it. I might have Reagann to help me today. Her daddy is coming to get the Hardy Boys books as Reagann needs to read more---she didn't score very well on her reading test. I will put her to work and her daddy can put together the new chiminea we bought yesterday. I also need to do laundry today.
We are feeding Michael's dogs this weekend---he is in Vegas--and it seems the cat that is in the bedroom is playing with them under the door. That's where dh found them when he got there and they kept going back to the door when they heard the cat.
Have rain this morning but it should pass soon.

Guess I didn't get on here this AM! Yesterday's test was an ultrasound of my breast. No pain--just a cool gel being moved around with that wand. She SAID it was in the warmer but....I don't think so!! Maybe it was--cause it wasn't ICE cold. Today was pretty cool temps--I worked my last day of school groups for 2018 at the park--and I hope the last day ever but....we had 6 groups of 8th graders and one group was AWFUL--there were 2-3 boys that were just doing all they could to be terrible. The teacher pulled them out of the room for me but I guess they got worse for the other places. Sad cause the other 10 kids were interested!

I did buy a mega millions ticket. And--if we win--we WILL all get together somewhere!! That is a promise! Hey--someone might and it could be me!

Terri--good idea to leave a little bit at the canyon if you'll be back in Jan/Feb. Hope you get things done on your list.

Betsy--the funeral was LAST week? I guess DD2 wasn't feeling too super...and I guess good that you do have a back up available with Kristen. Glad that DH is regaining some feeling. I hope it snowballs now! My folks had 22 this AM--hope you were warmer.

Cathy--I haven't dug my calla lilies--they are still green and I know I am supposed to let them die back. The gladiolas I had planted didn't do well AND the stalks have been knocked off--so I guess I will just let the corms lie there--they will make it or they won't.

Tomorrow--class at the Y. Sunday is the CROP Walk--not sure if I will run any of it or not. It is 5 miles and that is more than I usually even try to run!

Cathy, enjoy your extra day. I know what you mean about it getting too chilly for a bed covering, our new one definitely needs a blanket underneath it whereas the old one didn't. We will need to shop for one soon. DD2 has been drilled and drilled on basic math facts but still has trouble so she is allowed to use a calculator. We never buy lottery tickets but sometimes we receive them in birthday cards. The time to buy one would be in the next lottery when far less people will play.

Dianne, your blog was great news! I can't imagine losing a child/sister to SIDS. I have said it before and I know it has been years but I am still so sorry for your loss. Good luck with all of your purging and decisions on selling the house/moving.

Terri, I think you are busier than I am on a regular basis keeping two households running in a healthy old fashioned style.

Don't worry everyone, I have been the queen of not allowing DH to do too much even if it means I have to sit with him to stop him from overdoing. Once again DS will barely be here as he has to wait for gf to get off work and then they will drive straight to the venue where he performs. They will get in very late so we'll be sleeping already and he informed me he has to work tomorrow so they need to leave by 11 AM. I suggested breakfast at 10 and he agreed. I will make pancakes and sausage and we'll take them out for dinner another time, hopefully in Madison as originally planned. DH will go to the funeral and DD2 and I will go to the birthday party for Nellie. We will skip Empty Bowls since it only runs from 11- 2. All of the other events we wanted to do are just that, things we wanted to do but don't have to. I take that back we have to see our Little Brother and I can do that on Sunday. DH can come along if it is something like a movie.

The mother of a friend of DD2 died so she got today off to attend the funeral but discovered last night that the funeral was last week! Oops. DD2 has been battling a cold so she will just stay home today as he has no class and work already has planned for her absence. I thought she would need to leave before we returned from DH's doctor appointment so I have Kristen coming in this morning for a couple of hours. She will never work for me on a regular basis again but subbing works out just fine as long as she sees the children periodically so she is still familiar to them.

Have a fabulous Friday!

Dianne, our kids are so sweet most of the time--but I do find math time to be the most challenging---I just wonder what the world the elementary teachers do since these kids seem so clueless about basic math skills---I think after 5 to 7 years of education they should be able to add numbers below 10 and understand somewhat on subtraction---now one kid I understand, he really is kind of below the rest but mom wanted him challenged---it's not working---she even complained that the homework was too hard for him the other night---and it was first grade work. Guess she had to put too much effort into it herself. But I do find them interested in so many things that people might think they would not be. Was this test as painful as last time?
Terri, You should make sure you leave a variety of stuff there for those times you just pop down for a week or 2--that way you have a basic supply for those times. What projects have Steve been finishing up with? Have you been able to do your burn pile?
Betsy, laundry is necessary---I still need to wash my sheets and I am kind of glad I haven't gotten to it--it is time to change my bed covering so I can wash both together today and change the bed over as it was definitely chilly here last night. Hope that doctor visit goes well today.
Yeah, my three day weekend is here! Dh planted my mum yesterday and covered the green pepper plants as we still have some growing on there. Today I plan on pulling up some of the vinca and plant the winter pansies and some tulip bulbs in those beds. Also pull up the zinnias and plant some tulips there, too.
Anyone buying a ticket for those big lotteries? LOL---boy, wouldn't that be fun to win and have everyone get together.

I washed and dried all the sheets this morning so didn’t have time to post. It’s been a hectic day but I did get some great news...DH has some feeling back in his lips! I must go to bed but I will try to post tomorrow.

Just a quick check-in today. I'm working down my list and haven't progressed as much as I'd like. I got my salsa jars washed, labeled and dated, and stored in the box it will travel in to the other house. I suppose I will have to leave some food here, though.

So far, I've done the laundry, dishes, and made breakfast and lunch. Now I'm working on the ironing and trying to plan a meal that will incorporate a lot of fresh veggies.

Morning. It is in the 40s today--so I am getting dressed WARMLY! I teach today and tomorrow and then I am done for the year and maybe forever at this place. I know the older man who works with us won't do this place next year...so we talk on Tuesday next week.

Terri--I made chicken soup last night--can't replicate what I did last time but did grab a quick taste (I had set the covered pan in the garage to cool overnight--it is cool enough in the garage) and it tasted good but different. Wish I'd know that it would be good so I could pay attention to what I do! LOL Glad you are getting a bit caught up! I know we need to repaint, fix a sink that is rusty, etc but I just got agreement to get a market analysis from hubby--hooray! Now to clean up enough to have that done.

Cathy--glad things did go better. I am okay teaching special kids but that is for a short time--I don't have the temperament to do it all the time. Kudos to you! We have finally gotten fall temps--I hope we stay a BIT warmer--50s and 60s till Thanksgiving! I can hope!!

Betsy--I don't see how you will get all those things done this weekend but YOU are a master at fitting in lots! Just make sure that DH gets some rest...

I teach today and tomorrow--and the google maps app will give you traffic info. I also use Waze on occasion. I have my followup appointment today--ultasound on my right breast. Trying to not get too worried. I have to leave by 1 from work to get there in enough time. I did buy roses at the grocery store--a dozen for $3.70--they are in really nice shape and opening beautifully. And Cathy--my "reblooming" iris FINALLY bloomed for the first time this season so I have 2 stalks in the house--one is white, the other barely lavender. Pretty but I won't buy anything from Brecks again.

Well--off to finish getting dressed!

Betsy, too busy a weekend for your dh. Ask the doctor tomorrow at that appointment. Spending time with your son your be the priority and the funeral for your dh. I don't know how you work the week after such a busy weekend---LOL Can you just take your kid to lunch, explain about dh not being well, and promise a bit more after he is better? Will it be really cold there this weekend?
Dianne, yikes to the accident but at least you know ahead of time. We don't have anything like that around here ---or at least not that I know of---LOL Good luck posting that stuff but also take into account the mailing cost of items---it is not cheap. Hope you are busy at the place so that the time passes pleasantly.
Terri, this time of year is difficult---plus powdery mildew is a pain, too. Glad you got the salsa to a flavor you like---At least you know if you follow that original recipe, it will need tweeking. When will you head upwards?
Decent day yesterday---at least the teacher taught in the morning. We had 2 kids out sick. i am glad this is my Friday. Like Terri, I have some very restless nights this week.
Good pool workout last night but I did things slowly---knees were really hurting yesterday---maybe because it seemed like they still had the ac on in the school. Today I am wearing one of my new sweaters--it is lightweight.

No snow, and definitely no cocaine!!! LOL I'm not sure if our vinegar spray will curb the mildew or not. There seemed to be more this morning on the leaves that were green yesterday. I'm not going to worry about it. If the squash is done, it's done.

I had a restless sleep last night and am not sure why. No caffeine, no stomach pain, no afternoon nap--just a busy mind. I had started making green salsa from the tomatillos yesterday and wasn't happy with the flavor, so I left it in the turkey roaster (the biggest pan I have at this house) until I could spend some time "doctoring" the recipe. Between that and thinking about upcoming plans and preparations, I think my brain was trying to problem solve while my body was trying to sleep. I ended up picking more tomatillos this morning to add to the salsa, along with some cumin, cilantro, salt and a little sugar. I'm happy with the flavor but now I will never be able to replicate it...sigh...but I canned 20 pints, so I won't have to worry about it for a while.

Betsy, your weekends are busier than my entire week! I don't know how you do it, honestly. I hope you get to do all the things you're hoping for. Will DH accompany you or will he get some rest?

Dianne, I can't imagine why you would work for that outfit again next year. You haven't enjoyed it in the two seasons you have worked there. We got a CMA on the house in the canyon back when we first started this project and we've made a lot of improvements since then. It may not have raised the value as much as we'd like to think, but it made us feel better. The realtor that does the CMA for you will give you a printout of the analysis and that will give you an idea of the things that add value. For us, having the laundry machines outside on the back porch was a detractor (naturally), so bringing them inside is a plus, even though we sacrificed some closet space in the small bedroom. That was an extra. We knew there would be things like flooring, the roof, the bathroom, paint, etc. I'm sure you won't have anything like that.

I'm glad your difficult student is responding well to boundaries, Cathy. That's what I would expect. If he's used to being able to throw a fit and get his way, that will take some patient, consistent, boundaries to change. Hard to do if there's a different system at home, but he can still learn what behavior is acceptable at school. It's just a matter of all his teachers being on the same page, I imagine.

Morning! Got to the gym--3 days in a row! Good thing cause I work Thursday and Friday--last 2 days of the year--and I won't get much exercise. At least they are trying to keep us busy when we are there--last week I had 5 groups in and hour and a half! That was great--made the day go quickly.

We need to get a market analysis before anything else--and then I will start going through things with an eye to moving. It won't happen quickly--and we need to give the girls a chance to get home--DD3 hasn't been here since last Christmas and won't be here till Christmas 2019 at best. Most of the stuff we have isn't garage sale--I spent full price! So I will be figuring out how to list it on the sell stuff web pages--just not sure how to load the photos but hubby says he will help. I have about 20 purses and 10 pairs of shoes/boots that I can put up. I'd take $2-3 each for them so maybe I can whittle the pile down.

Betsy--I am not sure how you will fit all that into one weekend! WOW--you won't sit down much. That funeral will be hard. I lost a little sister to SIDS when I was in 2nd grade--don't blame the brother for having trouble dealing with it. I hope DH keeps on an upward track--slow and steady is fine. I was supposed to have kids but don't. I expect to get to the home today--and the gal is out so I can do sort of what I want--as long as I am DOING something. sigh

Terri--I thought of snow when it was "powdery white stuff"!! Hope your squash keep producing. I want about 15 pounds of winter squash but they need to get cheaper than 69 cents a pound. DD2 knows that I want all she can get if they have PYO at her place.

Cathy--I am sorry the adults can be the bigger problem. I DO understand wanting to "put kids in their place" but with your group, you need to NOT give in to that! Enjoy your short week. I am not looking forward to 2 days of the commute for my job--but it may be the last times for me! Not sure I will go back in the spring--and not sure they will have the $$ anyway! (According to the map app, there is a crash on the route--adding 58 minutes to the commute!)

Have a great day, everyone!

Terri, when you mentioned, " white powdery stuff," my mind went to ...cocaine! I am glad it is not that but sorry you have a problem in your garden.

Cathy, DH gets up at least once a night to take OTC medication for headaches but the good news is he is needing the medication less as a whole each day, hopefully that continues. Rest, time, essential oils and the warm rice sock seem to be doing the trick but the ER staff thought he should be farther along in recovery than he is. Everyone at school has been saying how much better he looks but of course the ER doctor had never seen him and commented " That must have been really bad." Enjoy your four day week as much as you can. Hopefully al the adults will behave today and the students will follow suit.

Dianne, if I remember correctly, you have the girls today, have fun! Moving is a great way to get rid of stuff, so is having your house burn down but I don't recommend that to anyone! Unfortunately when we lost our house, the basement didn't burn and that's where all the stuff we didn't really need was stored! You mentioned an apartment, would that be in NJ until you figure out where your retirement swelling will be?

Our weekend is shaping up to be more crazy than usual. Steven and Simone are coming home, the funeral for baby Cylus is at noon on Saturday, Nellie's birthday party is at two and there are several community events we wanted to attend, especially a fund raiser for hunger titled , "Empty Bowls." It is also our weekend to see our Little Brother and since we took a "sick day" last time, one of us really needs to see him. We had planned to take DS and gf out for supper when we went to Madison ( and didn't) so we should probably see if we can squeeze that in as well. DS is playing a show on one of the nights they are here but I am not sure which one.

Back to little Cylus. Torren, the first grade big brother is in denial so DH and the guidance counselor are meeting with his mother today to see what they can do to help. I just can't imagine!

Betsy, that probably was a good thing to go because arm pain can signal heart attack---so better safe than sorry. Nerve pain is not fun---shingles is like that---that's why it hurts so much--I was on a low dose of prednisone when I had that and that helped with the nerve pain so that is probably why he is feeling it now because he is off that medicine. Glad Dela enjoyed the find--bet she wants to play with it again today. Hope everyone comes back healthy and that Landon stays home if sick. Hope different OTC meds help your dh until Friday appointment. Is it bothering his sleep?
Dianne, smart to get a market value. Maybe this is the impedus to finally get rid of that stuff you have been talking about for years---LOL---just wondering how much is from your yard saling? LOL I would think your dh could help you figure out posting pictures or ask dd2 the next time she comes home.
Terri, I think I better pick what peppers we have outside as we might get frost in a couple of nights from now. My carrots don't seem to be doing well---when should I pull them up? Never grown them before. Hope your treatment solves that mildew problem---probably the cooler temps and wet caused it to start. What was the mystery squash?
Had an okay day---teacher was out for half the day so I taught---but nothing new about that. Had an issue with our PIA and she allowed us to take his gym time away from him---and I talked to him about it and that I was proud that he didn't react bad to that and hoped that he would go back to the good behavior--he actually has been a lot better lately. Someone set him off in art class--an adult who should have kept her mouth shut---so hoping he will do better today--we won't be in a room with her today.
Just 2 more days---Friday is a PD day and also the MD teacher's convention in OC.

Betsy, the nurse wouldn't be able to diagnose his pain over the phone and it's probably good that he had his vitals checked and all--just to make sure he wasn't having a heart attack or something. Having a pain shoot down his arm is a bad sign. Nerve issues are horrible and don't respond to pain meds in my experience. But if it means that the nerve is healing, I guess that's a good thing.

We found white powdery stuff on the squash leaves after the rain we had and I looked it up online. It's a mildew that smothers the leaves and can kill the plant after severely inhibiting its growth. We decided to cut away all the affected leaves and spray with a vinegar/water solution to see if we can extend the harvest for another couple of weeks. Both the zucchini and the yellow crookneck still have fruit and flowers on them, so we'll see how they do now.

We pulled out all the mystery squash I planted because the vines were done--not from mildew, as they didn't have any. They'd produced some very large, elongated winter squash and were spent. We cut about 10 large squash, 3 more small pumpkins and 2 acorn squash that had "volunteered" from my worm castings. I'm going to cut into a "mystery squash" soon and bake it to see what it tastes like. I have no idea what it is because it came from some seeds that I had saved last year--probably from a store-bought squash. I had thought that they were from a spaghetti squash, but these are definitely not those. I'll let you know what I find out. The new bush beans are producing and have some beans nearly 3" long. Another week of fair weather should allow me to harvest some.

Dianne, is there a FB bulletin board page or Market page for your area? I've joined one for both of our neighborhoods. I know you've seen Jenny's ad for her cinnamon rolls on FB because I've shared them, but she posts on the local page too. Then, it's just a matter of uploading the photos to the page and having people contact you by private message. I'm thinking about doing the same thing for some of the items I want to sell.

Morning! We have sunshine--hooray! Rained in the night but sun is shining now.

Betsy--I hope DH is doing better. Yes--nurse should have asked before having you come in--so make sure you find out from the doctor on Friday what the next steps might feel like! May save you another trip. I can't believe Dela is that old! And the "baby" is a year--wow! Hope your hands aren't too full today! We didn't stay up to watch the game but it looks like Aaron pulled one out AGAIN! Gotta love him--until he doesn't! LOL There is a cute thing on FB about being ahead in the 4th quarter--with his cute little smile!

Terri--glad your garden is still going. I think around here they are "done". I know my mom and dad have everything out of the garden except cannas still need to be dug. My calla lilies are still green--and I have iris blooming! These didn't bloom in June but are now. They might be some of the reblooming ones that I paid so much for! Glad you have the wood stove--I have baked over the weekend to add some warmth but hubby is determined to turn on the heat today.

Cathy--we aren't going to break 70 for the next while--I love this cooler weather! I teach Thursday and Friday so the cooler will be NICE! Hope things are settling for you. Why is this a 4 day week?

I was supposed to babysit for friends today--but the jury duty is moved to tomorrow (her number didn't have to go today). I expected this and blocked tomorrow for them as well but I can't do Thursday or Friday and let them know that. Not sure what I will do today--I did go through closet and pulled out a bunch of things I don't wear so those will be leaving the house! We agreed we need a market analysis before we can talk about selling--and we need to really get serious about moving stuff OUT. SO--I need to find out how to put photos on FB and I will start selling stuff that way. If I can sell some things and donate a bunch, that will help me feel better out what I will have to toss. I keep seeing an apartment like my SIL has and wonder where we would put stuff! So I need to get LESS stuff!

Hope everyone else is doing okay! Hi, Karen! And Anne!

Cathy, DD2 is battling a terrible cold so she wanted some soup from the deli at our closest grocery store. I made a deal with her that I would get it if I could also pick up some other things we needed and she would watch Dela. Landon was already napping so that was easy. Yes, Dela was my little helper because I found some kinetic sand that we haven't had out in a long time , so long that she was too little to play with it the last time it was out. She had a blast making "ice creams" using plastic eggs to form them. She would keep busy doing that, I would find a couple things to donate, recycle or throw out, "eat" an ice cream and go back to the storage area. She had so much fun that she told her mom , "You shouldn't be here" when she arrived to take her home.

Terri, it is nice of you to share your harvest, I know we thoroughly enjoy it when our neighbors share. Sadly, that time has passed for us and we have to wait until next year for sharing or purchasing from our outdoor farmers market. There is a winter one but that has mostly root vegetables, hand made goods like mittens or home made things like granola or cookies. Jay has been teaching long enough that he's well versed in what to do for a student when tragedy strikes. A Go Fund Me page has been set up to pay for the funeral of Cylus and as of last night they already had $13,000 so that's one less worry the parents will have.

I did call the clinic yesterday when DH reported the shooting pain was not responding to Tylenol and was at an 8 on the one to ten pain scale. The nurse said he should go back to the ER so that's what we did. His BP is still higher than normal but not alarming. As we waited, I felt like the man must feel when the woman is in labor because I saw the bursts of pain and I timed them. They last 10-15 seconds and he reported that he did not have 20 minutes of pain free time all day. The nurse on the phone, the check in nurse and the one in the ER room all thought it was odd but the doctor walked in and said, "That's just the feeling in your nerve coming back." He checked his vitals, told him to keep his Friday appointment and discharged him. We were relieved but thought we could have avoided the trip, the cost and the worry if the nurse had just spoken to the doctor before telling us to come in.
Since he is finished with prednisone, we got the green light to use other OTC products than Tylenol so he is now trying Aleve. He's also getting some relief from essential oils and a warm rice sock. Of course he is still teaching since he is dedicated, there's a sub shortage and he already has 1/2 day off on Friday.

It's Nellie's first birthday today and she must be feeling better because I haven't heard that she's not coming. Michael returns after his illness as well so it should be quite the busy day. Landon was acting unusually snuggly yesterday and that often means illness is brewing so we'll see what happens there. Yesterday he wanted me over his dad at pick up time and that never happens

Dianne, first thing is no more yard sales--LOL What did dh say when you talked to him? Of course, you would have to find a new place to live until he retired and that might be longer than the amount of time the government lets you roll over that money into a new place without paying taxes on it. Terri knows more about that than I do but that is why they changed their mailing address.
Betsy, did you have a little helper? Hope the doctor responded to you about the changes in where the pain is.
Terri, nice of you to share with your group. Your garden just won't stop giving.
I am glad we don't have the heat on yet---since yesterday it got back to 80 but at least it was not humid. But today it will stay about 64--fine with me! Good pool workout last night.

Betsy, I just read your post about the little boy on FB this morning. What a heartbreak! I cannot even imagine the grief and other emotions that those parents must be dealing with. Good for J to contact the guidance counselor and be ready to meet the brother's needs once he gets back to school. I'm sure his heart is aching for his young student. Your family should be praising you, encouraging you and HELPING you with all that clutter! Remind them that, should anything happen to you, they would be left with ALL of it to deal with on their own! That pain J is feeling does NOT sound normal. Maybe a phone call to the doctor is in order?

We don't have HVAC at either house, so don't worry about that. We just start a fire in the wood stove and/or I start baking. We've been burning wood scraps from the roof project lately in the early mornings and sometimes in the evenings. We've gone through two full bins already and haven't touched the woodpile. We don't really want to put much hardwood on the fire because we don't want an all-day fire. We only want to chase the chill. Our middays are lovely and warm.

I have to finish my Bible study lesson this morning. I would normally have had it done already, but this week has been unusually busy with activities away from the house. I canned 6 qts of stewed tomatoes before church yesterday and cooked about the same amount of tomatillos. I still have to season them before canning, but needed to look up some recipes to get an idea for what to add. So far, it looks like garlic, onion, jalepenos and salt--simple enough. I'll try to get back out to the garden (or send Steve) to gather some veggies to take to the Bible study today. I'm sure they would be appreciated, as most gardens are done.

Dianne, busy weeks are good if you have the weekend to rest. I think we have that backwards sometimes over here! The roads are dry but our grass is still largely white, we got 1.2 inches of snow yesterday. Moving is a LOT of work, I don't even want to think about it. good luck with your decisions.

Nellie is sick today so I am down to Dela and Landon, should be interesting. Dela can help me declutter somewhat when Landon naps as she enjoys treasures I find just for her. I hope Nellie is better for tomorrow because it is her first birthday, time sure flies!

Cathy, I will have to look for that movie, I think it is on my list of things I want to see. If it is by the writers of This is Us, it definitely is.

DH's headaches have been shooting into his shoulder so I am calling the doctor today, Friday cannot come soon enough for his appointment. the good news is his mouth is opening more and he can almost blink but not quite. I sure hope he recovers from this completely.

Dela is here so I must go. Have a marvelous Monday!

Morning! I am off to a 7 AM class--then lunch. this is a busy week.

Betsy--sorry about the little boy. So hard....

Cathy--no heat yet but it is coming! He'll turn it on. Rainy here now--don't need the rain.

Visited an open house yesterday--across the street. Talked to someone who MIGHT want to buy our house without doing all the updates....could we possibly move out? Now I wonder if we ever can--SO much to deal with. So I have to think about it and talk with hubby--and get moving!

Dianne, I am trying to avoid the heat, too. Not even sure it will come on since we had the ac installed and they might have turned it off---dh needs to check with them about that plus I would like it serviced, too. I did plug in a little portable heater and it has taken the damp chill out of the air. Brought up the heater my mom had in case it gets cooler, which it is according to the weatherman. Maybe you can turn on the heat and go out for a while until the smell disapates.
Betsy, that is so sad. Actually, that little boy might be a bit calmer and depressed---or just the opposite. Good for you in keeping on with the decluttering. Sounds like a pleasant Saturday until you heard that news.
If you haven't seen "I can Only Imagine" I highly recommend it---plus a box of tissues, too. I really enjoyed the meal and the movie last night.
Michael came by and got the huge pile of branches and also fixed my computer. He is going to Las Vegas sometime this week---we have doggy duty---for work and his boss is going, too--so that means he will get to go to something amazing while there. His boss just took all of them up to NYC to see Billy Joel in concert.
Back to work but only a 4 day week---yippee! Weekends are not long enough!

Dianne, we love 1776! Did they change it? I hate the heat smell too but it isn't too bad here. We need the heat now because we have snow that stayed on the ground already! emoticon emoticon

Cathy, GPS saves my hide a lot too. Finding four tops at C&B is great.

Yesterday we visited Nicholas and he looked better than we thought but the most damage is inside his mouth. I didn't ask if he caught the ball but expect he didn't, poor kid. We visited DH's brother at his bakery and then went to a gelato place for lunch and gelato. The gelato place is in Iola and shortly after we got home we learned that 17 1/2 month old Cylus had gone missing. His brother, Torren , is in DH's first grade class so I practically had to tie Dh down to keep him from joining the search party this morning. It was cold and raining and that isn't good for an eye that doesn't blink. Sadly, the search was called off because little Cylus drowned in the river. The mother's Facebook posts have been heart wrenching and accompanied by beautiful pictures of the little angel. Torren is already a bit of a handful so I am sure this will make things even worse. DH has already contacted the guidance counselor.

After church this morning we went out for breakfast and I have been decluttering ever since. My family members are begging me to stop but I tell them it will never get done! I will post some of my finds on the decluttering thread.

Morning! Glad you stayed safe then Cathy--I have gotten lost--I do like the GPS on the phone now!

Haven't turned the heat on--hubby wants to but I hate that smell! So we'll have to negotiate when Just had the AC on till Wednesday! He has meetings this afternoon and I want to go to the open house across the street--someone is flipping the house. Hoped for a higher list price but....we'll see what it sells for. I am going to roast a chicken--the oven will warm it up. It is in the 40s this morning.

Dianne, I know my way around the east side of the city but not the west side. It doesn't have a good reputation and not much over there to go to either.
We had off and on sunshine here. I met up with my sister yesterday to give her 2 checks to deposit in Mom's account. Then we had lunch at Panera and went shopping at Christopher and Banks. I got 4 tops.
Today we are having movie night at the church and dinner. We will see "I Can ONLY Imagine"

Woke to rain and gray--and yesterday was so nice! I did stop at one garage sale--found a game that they gave me for the home and I suggested another place to advertise for their sale.

Cathy--how long have you lived around there? And you still got lost!? I learned early on to watch for Garden State Parkway signs--they are ALL over and as long as I can find the parkway, I can find my way home.

DD3 is feeling better, DD2 has rain as well and DD1 is starting a different book--she is "stuck" on the one in her trilogy. So--hope they all have a good day. I want my hot shower!! LOL I did the step aerobic class-the teacher is in her 80s and still kicks my butt! I am ALL sweaty!
