I'm about out the door. I'm going to spend tonight and tomorrow night at the Evergreen Lodge near the hospital. It's a facility that was built by community donations to provide lodging for patients who live in outlying areas. It's primarily for oncology patients (I stayed there with my Sis-inlaw when she was having radiation therapy) so they don't have to travel long distances between treatments or spend a fortune on hotels. I called to see if they might have a room available for me and they welcomed me warmly. The cost is $20 per night and is actually on the hospital grounds, across the parking lot, so I'll just walk up to the hospital in the morning. GD Anna will be come and stay with me tomorrow night and then I should be okay to drive home.

Thanks for the prayers. I'm calm~

Morning! DD2 had a "cold day" off yesterday--DD3 had work and then she and a friend had a hard time finding a place open for dinner! She was out and about but did have her snow gear with her. My folks were doing fine at noon time yesterday-haven't heard today.

I enjoyed skiing--it was cool but not below zero. We went to the top of Peak 6 5 times--the bowl had really nice snow and there were no lines. I had a bad coughing fit in the night--that is giving me trouble sleeping.

Cathy--stay warm. We did turn the heat up at home a bit to help the pipes but 0 isn't that unusual for our area--I am not sure why all the fuss.

Betsy--I know, 0 will look good this weekend! Hope your 4 get along okay!!

Anne--stay warm!

Terri--keep calm--we got you covered in prayers!!

Heading out to ski very soon!

Terri, glad your tests went well and that you are all set for tomorrow. I imagine the sickness and the worry afterwards about what it was probably took more of a toll on your normal stamina. Maybe you can pay a grand to help clean once you are better. Glad you aren't having our cold weather---it is not fun at all.
Betsy, oh, no, honestly, she could take the day off if she had wanted to---sorry about that rude awakening---of course you did not take your phone up by your bed---you aren't a teenager! LOL You might not want to continue with him much longer and I am wondering if in a larger setting he would be moving more which would be good for his weight---but imagine most places will want him potty trained---boy, will that be a difficult task with one like that. Maybe you need restraints for his legs when changing----LOL
Dianne, glad the weather isn't as bad where you are---I cam imagine that they do need the water running up there---I am sure people needed that--like my sons--I get up too much at night to worry about it---LOL Do you have someone who can check on your house to make sure no busted pipes as it really is bad here and know it is worse where you live?
We got the call last night about 9:15 saying a 2 hour delay this morning---imagine we might have the same tomorrow---wind chill in the negative numbers---all the school systems around are on delays. I did stay up after the phone call but my body would not let me sleep in this morning. I am going to get up for my hot chocolate after this post and get a blanket to put around my legs at the computer as they are chilly.
Hope Anne is alright and all our other missing friends.

Morning! I feel for everyone in the really cold areas--it isn't that cold here. I slept fairly well again last night--now the issue is just my head cold and cough. Hard to sleep when you are coughing and the cough syrup didn't do much to stop it. Oh, well.

Betsy--stay safe and warm! Sorry about getting Travis but at least he doesn't need "babying". So sorry you were kicked in the face--I am guessing Dad doesn't do diapers so doesn't deal with that. Tell DS next time to step into some shelter to use his phone!! We are getting texts to let water run in the faucets cause it will be cold in NJ. I don't think it is THAT cold but that is what they are saying. DD2 has no work but DD3 had to go in in Detroit.

Cathy--we have temps in the 40s today/tomorrow, then it will drop back to the 20s next week--cool for skiing but not unbearable. Take care of yourself!

Terri--I saw the video. DD2 lived in MN for that year--it really does get "white" and you can't see. Glad your tests went well. You have your surgery and my mom goes to see her pain doctor on the same day. Then she has cataract surgery the next week.

Anne--hanging in there?

I am going to go out skiing soon, I guess. It was 3 this AM--too cold for me to go out there. Supposed ti be 15 by 10 and in the 30s this afternoon. I may wait till noontime.....

Cathy, all parents informed me they were not coming in today due to the cold so I was happily sleeping in when DD2 ran upstairs and said, "Travis is here!" His mother paid me for the day yesterday because she was going to make other arrangements for today and probably bring him tomorrow. She is an administrator so she is required to go in but his father is a realtor so I don't know why he isn't home with him. Jennie said she would take him to work with her but I told her to let him stay. She apologized profusely but with three adults here, we can handle a nearly five year old for six hours. Sigh, I really thought I was going to get the day off. Oh well, he's maturing nicely and we can do some fun "big boy" activities. DD2 is with him right now. Before you ask, she did text me but I keep my phone downstairs at night so didn't hear it.
I turned the heat on Sunday afternoon and haven't turned it off since, Cathy. It has never been on continuously for that many days but right now it is a necessity. Thankfully, our power stayed on, losing it would be a nightmare right now. We even had trouble keeping a fire going in the fireplace last night and that never happens. Yes, temperature variations are crazy and so is DH, he just went outside to clear snow off the bird feeder! Back to crazy weather, once this cold snap ends, we are supposed to get a wintry mix storm , hope that changes.
Cathy, sorry about your knee pain, I hope you can get that shot soon. We definitely have hand warmers up here for sporting events and football games but the trouble for DS was the exposure when he had to take his glove off to use his phone. We need to look into some warm gloves with texting sensors on the fingertips for him. DS said he was scheduled to work today but would probably take a sick day and I wholeheartedly support that.
Yes, I am on the fence all the time about telling the birthday boy's parents they need to look elsewhere for child care but at this point I am letting him stay because the consistency is good for him. I am hoping with age he'll settle but we'll see. I guess I had better get to work.

Have a great day, Team!

My BIL is still working with FEMA in Minnesota and posted a video on FB of his drive "home" from work at 3 in the afternoon yesterday. It was surreal with the wind blowing the snow all around. I told Steve that I've read stories about people getting lost in a whiteout blizzard and now I have a visual of what that might look like. Wow!

Glad you're feeling better Dianne. A good sleep was definitely good for you! This is the 3rd year that I recall you feeling ill on your first days of skiing. My guess would be that the altitude is causing it and you might need 48 hrs to adjust instead of 24. Of course, your cold symptoms didn't help either.

My EKG was perfect, according to the doctor and all my vitals, too. So I have the green light for surgery.

Betsy, I know people have to go to work and need childcare, but in a state of emergency, you'd think more people would stay home. Any damage from the face kick by the Little Hulk? Next time you change him, put on a football helmet!

Cathy, my left knee is the one that bothers me the most. I've been thinking about going to physical therapy for an assessment. Sometimes I can feel something moving in there, but it's stiff much of the time and I have to be careful about stairs. Especially when going down.

My house needs a good cleaning and I'm still going through books to take to the church. I need to keep up with the purging but have list a little steam.

Betsy, if her daycare is closed, so should you! That weather is horrible---glad the local schools are being proactive and staying closed the rest of the week. Hope your son's fingers are feeling a lot better today and that he can stay home, too. Hard on the paychecks but better than losing a life or a limb. That is horrible what that father did. Maybe he should be the next child that should move on from your care because of behavior. I hope you are leaving the heat on in the basement with these cold temperatures if you are going to be open. Hope you do not lose power at any time. Keep the temps up just in case that happens. Cannot imagine how much heating bills are going to cost everyone this year---both at your area and mine as we are not usually that cold. The Really bad cold hits us tonight but next Monday it might be back up to 60--isn't that crazy?
Terri, what are you busy with at home? Hope the EKG was fine and that the surgery goes well on Friday---hoping you can post to us even if just to say you are ok and no other response needed if you are not up to it.
Dianne, glad you felt better outside and got some skiing in. Will you have the bitter cold there or just the normal cold temps to be expected there.? Looking at the national weather, I am thinking you are just at normal temps for that area. Hope you are not having the nasty wind chills.
I am having lots of problems with my right knee--I really need to see the doctor and get a shot---hoping to get in next week for that. Heat pad really helps when I get home but that means I am not doing much but sit with it on both knees.
Betsy, I just thought of something---do you have those hand warmers for sale up there? I get them for my roofer son to have on hand---maybe your son needs to keep one in a pocket for just in case to help if something like this ever happens again.
I am not looking forward to going out in the cold this morning and it's not as bad as tomorrow will be.

Dianne, glad you are feeling a bit better.

Terri, hope the EKG went well.

As you know it is VERY cold here and even colder where DS lives. His bus had to stop due to engine trouble so he had to remove his warm glove to get an Uber to work. He wound up with frostnip and was cleared to go home. He just reported the sensation is returning to his fingertips and there’s only one white spot on his pinkie. It’s so hard not to be there to help him.

DH has been granted permission to change the date of the play but he has to have it at 5:30 instead of 7:00 because there’s a sporting event that night. The parking lot isn’t big enough to accommodate both events.

Landon aka Monster Baby turns 2 tomorrow and for an early celebration he decided to kick me in the face as I was changing his dirty diaper. Did you hear me scream in pain? That was bad enough but his father laughing when I told him was almost too much to handle! I am so glad he isn’t coming tomorrow, I need a break!

DD2 said the police came to her day care and said they should be closed due to the state of emergency we are in. They couldn’t close for obvious reasons but they are closed tomorrow. Bars, churches, businesses, schools and even the police department are closed tomorrow! Of course the police will be available but the department is not open to the public.

I have the news on and we are expected to hit 57 below zero by 6 AM, with wind chill, of course. The actual temperature at the moment is minus 26! Enjoy the warmth if you have it!

Hi! I did ski some yesterday--felt better outside. We slept almost 12 hours and I SLEPT much better!! Got some cough syrup today for tonight so I hope I have turned the corner.

DD3 has heat--since we got back from Disney. She has to work but her chorus has cancelled for tonight. DD2 taught today although her work closed early. She may have snow and no work for a day or two. My folks were going out today to get milk--Mom has to have her 4 glasses a day--and a few other things but then staying in tomorrow.

It has warmed up to 20 here so I will go ski this afternoon--did grocery shopping this AM. Hubby is yelling so have to go!!

Busy here, but wanted to send my best wishes for all of those dealing with the treacherous cold--be SAFE!

Off to the doctor's office for an EKG prior to surgery on Friday. Lots to do around here and not a lot of energy to tackle it.

Local schools are closed until Friday so that’s an unprecedented 4 days off! DH’s rural school goofed and he’s teaching today but won’t have school Wednesday or Thursday. I am swamped with extras but just wanted to check in and say I have not turned into a popsicle!

Dianne, you weren't well to start with and it seems like you need a few days to get used to the higher altitude each year---so maybe it is a combo of that---hope you stayed in with that cold and the snow since you didn't feel well. Glad your dad got that wood---just in case the power goes off, at least they will be okay with heat. Your mom might be getting a bit of cabin fever and wanting to get out. Glad your dd3 can bring stuff home to work from there with that bitter cold. is her heat fixed? If not I hope she breaks down and uses a heater. I am thinking I might pull out the heater for the living room to help with the heat---our electric bill is low enough that it might be advantageous for us to save a bit on the gas bill.
Betsy, gosh, it is bad if you are taking about schools closing---and about time they did that. That is too cold for anyone to have to be out---and the winds with the buses is just an accident waiting to happen. Haven't heard anything about plans here---but I know one time we did have a delay for severe cold because of the walkers and the kids waiting at the bus stops. Glad you got to spend time upstairs and had a good kid yesterday. How were the ribs? Yum!
Well, we stayed home yesterday. Got my bills paid, finished a book, and went to the pool. I do plan to go to a market tomorrow for some lunch meat and we will probably go on our Tuesday night dinner out. We talked about the cold weather at the pool last night and I think most of us will not be going if it is that cold---esp. since they are having problems with the pool heater---the water was just okay but definitely not as warm and seems to get cooler as we were in it so we were not nice and warm when we got out. I do not want that with the frigid cold coming in tonight. We might even get a smattering of snow tonight.
Stay warm!

Dianne, the whole state is in a state of emergency so I hope PT was smart enough to cancel an appointment for an older patient. UWSP even cancelled their evening grad classes emoticon and that never happens. It is good that your parents have wood because even with a furnace going, a fire is insurance for extra warmth. I am so sorry you have to be feeling poorly for your vacation. emoticon Yes, I do bend the rules for only one child IF that happens to be a well behaved child! Nellie was upstairs with us all day and all we had to do was block the stairs.

Cathy, we have a bit of a "warm" spell right now at -7 and there's no snow emoticon or wind at the moment so the feeling is there will be school tomorrow but not on Wednesday OR Thursday as we are to hit dangerously low temperatures like you said. Yesterday we went to the grocery store and there was a man at a podium right inside the entryway asking if you'd like to win $100 worth of groceries. Silly me, I said yes and it turned into a plug to buy the local paper twice weekly to get the coupons PLUS a $5 gift card for groceries immediately. Since he was so close to the entryway, every time somebody came in, the wind would blow across the back of my legs and it was not pleasant. It felt like needles were pricking me the whole time we shopped and for hours afterward. My legs finally warmed up to comfort at around 3 AM! emoticon

Nellie just left and DH is making "Sunday " dinner tonight since we had so many leftovers to use up yesterday. He is trying a new recipe for short ribs that will be interesting because he added 1/4 cup of honey on top of the maple syrup called for. His reason was that he is so used to making his own sauce and it has honey! emoticon I think they are going to be extra sweet, just like us! emoticon

Morning! Cathy--we convinced my folks to stop heating with wood--it is a lot of work for my dad. Well--they got a cord delivered yesterday so they will have wood heat for this awful cold week. DD3 drove in to work early today to pick up stuff so she could work from home--Detroit is getting snow. I haven't looked at weather for NJ--it will be what it will be when we get back.

Betsy--Mom has a PT appointment and I hope THEY cancel it on her cause she is going to go--snow or cold be damned! Glad you only have one--do you "bend the rules" a bit with just one and spend time upstairs?

Not sure what I am going to do today--tummy is "off" and it is 16 outside in the town--we are another 1000 feet above that and it is even colder as you go up. And it is snowing....

Betsy, I have been watching the national weather forecast and had seen the cold weather you guys are going to have. Both you and my friend Carol in Minnesota are going to be in dangerous conditions. I don't know how you handle that kind of cold. She is already planning to have her friend cancel a dentist appointment on Wednesday as she doesn't want to leave home in those temps. Nice that you can teach him a new game---hope he picked it up quickly.
Dianne, oh, my, hope that issue does not continue---otherwise you are going to need to see a doctor again while up there. Sorry you won't have any of the girls but hopefully your friends can find a way to come up for a couple of days. I have seen pictures of some of those ice sculpture exhibits---they are amazing---but not sure if I want to be where it is that cold to have them---LOL How come your parents don't have wood? Did they not get any or have they used it up?
We are going to have pretty cold weather for us by Wednesday--not happy about that but nothing we can do about it. I will have to go out into it for work---yuck! But I will manage. So Dianne is really not missing anything since she will have cold where the snow is---LOL
I have pool tonight and have to pay bills and mail them off today---hope to get out of the house today. I lazed around yesterday and finished another book and started another one.

Hi, all. i slept LOUSY--my heart felt like it was racing all night--and it was--I was in the "cardio zone"for over 22 hours yesterday according to the Fitbit. I wasn't going to but, after my shower, I felt good enough to go out with hubby. Did 3 runs and I was done. He came in with me for lunch and has gone back out. Between my sinus/throat and chest, I am just falling apart.

Betsy--I saw the wind chill predictions. I am HOPING my parents will just stay home but---unlikely. They wish they had wood to burn--the wood fire keeps the house much warmer. My DB (dear brother) and his GF went ice fishing on Saturday--they really are nuts. Guess they caught 5-6 nice ones. A friend has a part car/part boat "thing" that they use--they can enclose it and heat it somehow.

Terri--so sorry you have water pump issues. And of COURSE nothing is open on the weekend. Steve will figure it out--the neighbors are lucky to have him around!! Have you been enjoying the time with the grands? I know you missed them in the canyon--how long did it take till you'd like to miss them again! LOL

Cathy--we are the only ones here for our 2 weeks. SIL is letting ex-hubby use theirs. DD3 doesn't have enough vacation but promises that she will have for next year and I haven't heard from the friends to see if they would like to come up sometime. We caught part of Rogue 1 yesterday and it lead right into "A New Hope" so that was cool. We didn't spend much time in here Sat.

We got here about 2 and our room was ready!! Hooray. So we went to the grocery store, bought our $100 of stuff--in 4 bags and 2 back packs--and then found out the shuttle doesn't pick up there between 3 and 6. Supposedly it was announced in our Owner's Letter but I don't recall see it. So we had to take a different way to the gondola and then haul all the groceries up that way and carry them in. THEN we needed to get the skies. So we could get the shuttle--stopped to see the ice sculptures--google the Breckenridge Ice Sculptures and take a look--they are wonderful--but it was so crowded it was hard to see them. Walked to the ski rental place--the girl recognized us, I think! We got the usual boots--hubby has the SAME boots that he had last year. "But they are 5 years old--try these." Hubby wanted the old boots. I think they should sell them to him--but yes, then we'd have to haul them. I doubt that they will have them next year. So by 9:30, we were done and going to bed.

Anne--you okay? Elizabeth? Any others?? Hi

Cathy and Terri, John actually titles this party, "About as late as can be for Christmas this year without being early for Christmas next year." He used to have "Christmas in July in August" right before school started but realized decorating twice was a LOT of work. You wouldn't believe the amount of decorations he has! His house is very cozy and it looked wonderful. Terri, sorry about all your water troubles.

We wound up watching Frozen and eating pizza as I said but then we played a few more rounds of Mexican Train Dominoes to teach JB how to play. Last time we played with tiles up, this time it was tiles down but he was my partner against DH.

I forgot to mention a phone call we got on Friday from our grocery store. Apparently there could be salmonella in the flour we purchased so we were advised to bring it in for a refund if the numbers matched. The trouble is I pour all of our flour into a container so I have no idea what the numbers were. I threw it all out just to be safe.

We are under a wind chill advisory AND a winter storm warning so tomorrow is going to be interesting. The long range forecast has the coldest temperatures for the week on Wednesday and Thursday, record breaking if we go that low. Those are the days I am SO happy I work at home.

Dianne, emoticon emoticon emoticon

Dianne, about 20 women and 25 men, maybe a few more so it was a nice turn out. The talk was about modern day prophets--I am not into that stuff---you have to be so careful with what you hear and I just trust God to handle it all. I sure hope we don't go thru the same thing but we could in 21 days. The one thing that can come out of this is hopefully people realize the importance of saving some money to keep them going for a couple of months to get by on. Seems like that is not hardly mentioned by anyone anymore. Hope you have a wonderful time and can hit the slopes feeling good.
Betsy, boy, is that a late party, but no one has the excuse of having too many committments to not go---LOL Sounds like a pleasant way to spend with your LB and not that expensive---and a perfect movie for the weather you are having. Brrrrrrr!
Terri, hope Steve is able to fix it----do others share in the cost if you have to put in a new pump? Sorry it ruined any plans you had.
Caught up with laundry and really cleaned the bathroom good----moved everything and wiped down shelves, etc. Finished up one book and started another one. It was a Star Wars Day on TV so at least we had something to watch--LOL

A Christmas party at the end of January? That's a new one to me.

We've got issues with our water system today. The pump isn't working and may have to be replaced. Steve's out trying to find a part to fix it, but nothing is available locally and the places that may have the part aren't open on weekends. I'm glad we have an extra tank, but our neighbors who don't have a well for backup are out of water. There goes our Saturday~

Dianne, glad you didn't have troubles at the airport. I am also glad workers are finally being paid and hope that doesn't happen again. Isn't it funny how as we age we can refer to people in their eighties as "young?"

Cathy, sorry your legs are /were bothering you and that you didn't like the message. As you mentioned, January is nearly over so now the kids can get crazy because of St. Valentine's Day. I am glad all of mine are really too young to understand that one. Why do you have a long weekend? My youngest one is going to come and meet me in two weeks, I can't wait to hold her emoticon She will be a peanut as she was born at 5#12 oz.

We are at a balmy -5 right now with a wind chill of -17 so it is warmer than yesterday! Our Little Brother wanted to watch Frozen so we are picking him up, buying some hot and ready pizza at Little Caesars and coming back here to watch our DVD. I found a bag of dark chocolate chips so we'll probably bake something, play Uno and take him home. DH and I plan to go to 5 PM Mass followed by a Christmas party a friend of ours is having at his house near the church. That's another funny one for as we age... Years ago people flocked around the buffet table in the dining rom and now people are asked not to bring anything unless they absolutely must because very few people snack at night now. The table with snacks is just a small one in the living room now. This is Wisconsin so one thing that hasn't changed is the plentiful bar in the kitchen and three season room. We never come empty handed but want to abide by the host's wishes so we'll bring him a jar of our jam and a bottle of wine.

emoticon Our nephew Tim is getting married in Kansas City today, hope all goes well.

Have a super Saturday!

Morning. We were not delayed in our travels although warned that we would be. I am so glad that the working people are going to get paid. This is certainly something that better not be repeated. I felt pretty good yesterday but did not sleep well last night and now I am stuffy. I know what meds to take,.

Betsy, my parents married as teens and I was born within 18 months. So yes, they are young.

Cathy, sorry you couldn't get up and walk. Were there many out for the dinner?

I will try to check in later!

Dianne, sure hope you feel better once you get there but it seems like you always get something while skiing--so maybe if you start out a bit out of it, the rest will be a breeze. Hope no issues at the airport. Surprised at your daughters!
Betsy, our kids at school were off the chain all week--and they still had a special assembly yesterday---IMO it should have been canceled. Luckily our room doesn't have to deal with those issues, although our multi personality kid was definitely off this week and pushed buttons big time on Thursday---yesterday I think he finally got the message and finally earned some tablet time at the end of the day.
Nice dinner last night at church although I didn't really care for the lesson in the women's group. I needed to get up and move around and couldn't---that was probably part of my issue---legs have been a real issue this week, partly because of the weather.
Nor worried about flooding around my house, we have very good drainage, but we had spots that were still holding water which is very unusual for our yard. Lots of water in other areas though---and at least it didn't flood near my school so no issues getting to work.
Not sure what I will do with my long weekend---need to pay bills and maybe I will tackle my taxes---or maybe not---LOL

Dianne, our oldest reminds her brother about my birthday but so far he has told her he remembered, we'll see if that continues. emoticon to your dad, he is younger than I thought he would be. My dad would have been 91 this year. What did you have for your birthday dinner? DD2 still goes to church just not our church, remember she has lots of choices in our area. If you don't find the recipe, I would be happy to put it in the recipe thread.
She would love to move out but needs a roommate and doesn't have one, sigh. All in due time? It's too bad you are missing those movies but think of how much fun you'll have skiing.

Time to get back downstairs. Dela is reprimanding Landon. He is really acting up today.

Morning. I am still feeling "off" but we are packed and will head out about 1. TSA is slower here--I would be too if I was required to work but wasn't getting paid. My tummy is "off"--I think from the sinus draining down my throat. Anyway--I'll live. It will be in the 20s in CO--so colder than I would like but we'll manage!

Thank you for the birthday wishes--today my Dad is 85! We had a nice "out to dinner" and I got to tease my girls cause 2 of them forgot my birthday till I said something! The goodies are nice, thank you.

Terri--glad Steve is in where it is warmer. Hope you keep feeling pretty good and the surgery is a snap!

Betsy--I love Taste of Home recipes--I'll have to look that up, too. And soups--love soups. I think DD2 should still go to church--just ignore him--but he likely won't be there. Is she talking about moving out now that she is done with school?

Cathy--our waterlogged spots are now frozen--we had an inch of rain yesterday. Should be good traveling for me today. While I am gone, the local theater is showing many of the Oscar movies for $5 each--drat. I wanted to see Mary Poppins Returns but we'll be gone. I should get to see Green Book in Feb.

Anne--hi!

Gathering the last of the stuff. I may take a nap....

Cathy, the data problem was on the desktop not my phone. either way, a new cycle has begun so all is well. Are you worried about flooding with the saturated ground or do you think the rain is finished for a while? Young children are very fast and of course I am glad the three year old was found safe.

Terri, the Farmhouse apple pie we made was from Taste of Home, is that the one you found? I think you will love it. The smell as it cooked reminded me of my MIL's delicious German potato salad that we all loved. The soup we made was the beef barley vegetable slow cook recipe we like. Yes, we are glad that Malachi is history but the lingering problem is that she met him at our church so now she does not want to go there any more. I have no idea if he went back to the military and probably never will but that's OK.

Dianne, safe travels and good health wishes are being sent your way.

The computer says it is -12 with a feels like temperature of -23 at the moment. I have already shut the fireplace flue and turned on the heater in day care. Underneath my snowman overalls I am wearing a tank top, a 3/4 sleeve top, a turtleneck and a sweater. Another fire tonight will be wonderful. Nellie's parents gave me a recipe for slow cook honey sesame chicken so I am going to try to make that for tonight right now.
Happy Friday!

Dianne, sorry that I forgot your birthday---goodies are coming---LOL Glad you remembered what you had your ski clothes in and glad you found those long sleeve tops. I really appreciate that I don't have to store any clothes down in the basement. I use the spare room closet for that. But a lot of my clothes are multi seasonal so they stay out. Sorry you weren't feeling good. Hope you feel better for the plane ride and don't feel horrible while at the ski location.
Betsy, I thought you were worried about the data usage on your phone? Kind of surprised you are using your phone but at least you can stay near the fire to use it. That is why I like my Kindle Fire---I can check my email when I get home without having to be in the dining room. Boy, that is cold weather. I would not even stick my nose outside in that kind of weather---LOL I know you are happy to know that they found that 3 year old alive in the Carolinas. People just do not realize that they just cannot leave children outside with just other kids until they are a bit older. Not fair to the other children to be the adults and watch a child that young. Maybe to go in to the bathroom but coming back out is okay but no long periods of time.
Terri, glad Steve will be warm while working. Yes, being a flagger is hard work at times, esp. if the weather is yucky. I did it for 2 summers--thankfully not too many days where I was stuck in one place.
No plans for the weekend---but have a 3 day weekend since Monday is a professional day. We do have a dinner at church and then a meeting separate for the men and women.
Glad it's Friday and the temps are back to normal and no rain--boy, it rained buckets yesterday--our ground is saturated---but glad it was warm and not snow---otherwise we would have been buried.

Betsy, we keep the bedroom doors shut during the day so as not to heat up parts of the house that we aren't using, but we try to remember to open our door in the evening to let it warm up a little in there. The times that we forget make it very hard to go to bed because it's very cold in there! I do prefer to sleep in a cold bedroom in a WARM bed, but there's always that first shock. I'm glad K is working through her disappointment, but am glad Malachi is history. Please be safe and keep warm during that cold weather! Dianne too, if any of it will hit Colorado while they're skiing.

Dianne, I forgot if you said how many are going on this trip. Any of the girls? Your sis-in-law?

Happy Friday, Cathy! What are your plans for the weekend?

Anne, where are you? Come up for air if you can.

I looked up the recipe for that Farmhouse pork and apple pie. I think I might give it a try sometime. I have pork in the freezer from DS1's homegrown pigs. What kind of soup did you make for the neighbors, Betsy? If you said, I forgot. We love soup when the weather is cold and it such an easy dish to make. I can set the pot on the back of my woodstove and keep it hot all day--or use the crockpot if I don't happen to have a fire.

On phone so going from memory.
Terri, it does seem odd that K isn’t in school because she’s been going for 25 years! She still feels like she should be doing homework. Yes, 6 children can be a herd. My two boys going up two flights of stairs seems like a herd at times. The Malachi drama is over and her heart is healing. Her counselor has helped a lot with that situation.

Dianne, I hope you recover quickly so you can enjoy your vacation. I also wish you smooth and safe travel. Thank goodness your parents didn’t travel, it was treacherous! All they have to worry about now is the brutal cold. The delays and closings are rolling across the screen now. I’ll still be open and believe DH’s school will be too. As of now, the projected high without the wind chill for next Wednesday is -11!

Cathy, I had to text the mother to see if her daughter was coming and she apologized for not texting me last week. This is the same mother who routinely forgets to pay me and then writes a check for three weeks. Dela forgot about the toy because the clean shelving showed her other exciting things. Our dinner guest was here last night and the farmhouse pork apple pie was enjoyed by all. We did save you a piece so bundle in layers and come on over!

Our across the street neighbors brought our soup pot back today and once again told us they loved the soup. I know they meant it because they asked for the recipe. Unfortunately, the wife has a new spot on her leg so they think her cancer is back. She just buried her mother on Saturday so it seems they can’t catch a break.

My stepbrother starts his alcoholism treatment tomorrow so prayers for Keith are appreciated. Our friend Tim is still undergoing tests before seeing an oncologist but they now know the heart, kidney and liver are involved. Obviously prayers for Tim are also welcome.

There’s a warm fire next to me making it difficult to go to bed but tomorrow is still a working day so I must force myself. Have a great Friday!

I'm pretty sure I won't be allowed to do much and I'll likely be content to sit with my knitting for the most part.

Happy belated birthday, Dianne! I hope you nip this sore throat in the bud! I'm so glad you were able to find all those ski clothes BEFORE your vacation! I usually find them the next season--like in the middle of the summer!

We don't have all our W2s yet, so I haven't looked at our taxes. Hopefully, next week--before my surgery.

We're taking it easy around here today. Steve is home, but just got a call to drive truck tomorrow. He'll be making half the money, but will be in a warm truck instead of standing all day, holding a sign. Flagging traffic isn't as easy as one might think.

Thanks, Betsy for all the birthday wishes. I woke to a sore throat this morning--swollen lymph nodes and feels like a curtain hanging down the back of my throat. Just wonderful....

Cathy--DD3 did NOT want to run up her electric bill and I couldn't convince her that an hour or two would be fine. She also would not report the landlord--doesn't want to rock the boat. She does like her place. Glad you got out for the pool. I was going to today but not with my throat.

Betsy--we have also taken a look at our taxes and, despite all the promises, we owe a significant chunk. I guess we are not wealthy enough to benefit from the tax cuts. I don't think DD2 or 3 have looked at theirs but I am worried about their tax bills as well. Sorry for your DS. Marriage might help but I think they have taken much of that advantage away. My folks did NOT go to Madison yesterday with the doctor's blessing. Mom now goes 2/1. Has her cataract surgery on 2/6 but that is local.

Terri--I will be thinking of you on 2/1 as well as Mom. The gas they pump into you causes shoulder pain--it is looking for an escape route or the diaphram nerves are connected to shoulder nerves. At least DD3 REALLY complained that her shoulder hurt after her appendix was removed. Just be prepared for that pain cause it doesn't seem related to the surgery! Let Steve baby you for the weekend.

Anne--hope you are not freezing today!

Digging for ski stuff last night while on the phone with my sister. I couldn't reach the boxes and couldn't find my stuff--then remembered the Star Wars bag--had everything. I did find a box of my winter tops--I KNEW I was missing long sleeved tops--well, there they were! So I am a happier camper. Got one suitcase packed--the 2nd will hold toiletries, shoes, a little food (I take spices, etc for cooking) and maybe one more sweater.

So I am taking it easy today! Hope you are well!

Dianne, I don't think it would have raised her electric if she just used it in one room for a few hours each day but guess she didn't mind all that much being cold. She should have reported that landlord to the housing commission, too. Are you getting excited? Hope no issues at the airport and no traffic issues on the way there like last time.
Betsy, did you finally call or text to see where she was? Not very considerate of them to not tell you. Hope she wasn't too cranky because you didn't find that toy. Wonder where it could be since you have looked?
Terri, glad it won't be a hospital stay. They can do so much now with little cuts---kind of amazing. You make sure you follow all the rules before and especially after the surgery---no heavy lifting, etc. is probably the top priority for a while---and we know how independent you are.
Crazy weather---got up this morning and I don't even need to turn up the heat, but by tomorrow I will want it on as it will be very cold again.
Good pool workout last night----only one person made it out on Monday night. The rest of us didn't brave the cold---LOL

Betsy, I think 6 kids qualifies as a herd, don't you? I made banana pancakes and bacon for them and they were just sitting down when DS2 arrived I let him supervise the table while I brushed my hair and put a little color on my eyes. The kids finished and then cleared the table, scraped the plates into Rosie's dish, loaded the dishwasher and wiped the table. I usually have to rearrange the dishwasher, but that's okay because I love that they all help. I always have them set the table while I cook, so they help at that end, too.

I really like the surgeon and feel very comfortable with him. My surgery is scheduled for Feb 1st--a week from Friday. It will be outpatient surgery, will take about 30 minutes and I'll be able to come home. Steve will drive me and we'll have the weekend to relax. He's been flagging traffic this week, but they don't need him full time. Hell just let the boss know that he can't work that Friday or the weekend.

I gave Ben his new shirt when they were here and he loves it. I lined it like I did Steve's and he thought that was pretty cool. He's a skinny kid and is always cold. He's the oldest, so his brothers get the hand-me-downs, while he's hurting for clothes after a big growth spurt. I think I'll make him another one now that I know that this pattern fits him so well.

I'm glad you got to visit your game buddy, Dianne. I'm wondering if he's not one of the Alzheimer patients if he's able to play with you. You all can keep that nasty cold weather! I like snow, but freezing rain and ice don't sound like fun to me! I'm sure we'd have all kinds of broken pipes around here. I'm glad your DD got her heat back on. I wouldn't have been very happy about that, either. She's a pretty self sufficient person, though. I'm not surprised that she managed.

Betsy, it seems odd to me that K is no longer in school and I'm not even living there! Does it feel odd to you? Is she working full time now? What ever happened in the Malachi drama? Did he go back to the military yet?

I haven't accomplished much today. That's what I get for not making a list.

Cathy, we made the farmhouse apple pie up to the point where it goes in the oven for two hours in a cast iron skillet. While it cooks you make mashed potatoes and at the end you spread the potatoes over the top and then broil for five minutes.
We have had this dish before and we love it but we have never made it in steps on different days so I hope it works. Sorry about your tummy troubles, hope you can switch meds if they are the culprit. Dela's mom forgot to tell me her father took the day off on Monday so I only had Nellie and was able to look for the toy but no luck. She will return today on her 4th birthday, should be a fun day.

Terri, I had to read your post twice because I was trying to figure out what animals you were herding emoticon . I thought perhaps you were raising sheep for the wool! Allie Grace is right, you are good at dealing with a lot of kids! Want to move to Wisconisn? emoticon Did tht little guy have appendicitis? Hope he's ok.

Dianne, glad to hear the WI blood is still with you, that will serve you well in cold weather! Thanks for the LTGL challenges. Good for you for the ability to do squats so easily, my joints might revolt as they did once in a PT office when I was asked to squat down sliding along the wall, sigh. At least I can still walk but I am looking forward to non icy weather so I can safely do that outside again. Did your mother have her appointment yet? Yesterday would have been an awful day to drive to Madison. Speaking of Madtown, DS sent a message saying they got blasted on their taxes, a return of 88% less than last year after making less money. Welcome to the working world, son! I didn't say it but if they were married filing jointly I bet the return would have been better. MLK day is just a day when the banks and the USPS are closed for us so no short week here.

I need to go turn the day care heater on. Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Morning! Chilly here now but yes, it is supposed to warm up--and rain!

Cathy, DD3 was offered several heaters but didn't want to pay the higher electric bill. I do think she should have asked the landlord to drop her rent by the amount of the more electric--he likely would have rather than deal with legal stuff--cause she could have raised THAT but she doesn't like to make a fuss. I am just glad it works now when it is getting cold! Cathy--she had a hot water pot in the office at school--she could get into school. You are right --they could have the deicer in the office since they may have this issue regularly!

I don't think my folks are going to Madison today--weather didn't sound good and Mom told them she would cancel if the weather was bad--they have to expect that. But I haven't heard anything. Mom did see her doctor yesterday--Dad thought she had a bladder infection cause she wasn't making sense--but may be a sinus infection. That summer when we were sure she had Alzheimer's, it was a bladder infection so that is his first thought when she is loopy.

Betsy--hope things are better.

Terri--yes, do want to hear. Glad you handled the herd without issue!

Anne--I expect you will also have this weather.

Elizabeth--keeping you in prayers.

I did get to the home yesterday--but didn't go into the Alzheimer's unit. Visited my game buddy and showed off my Disney medal. I d think they just like someone different to talk to! Today is coffee with a friend and then packing.

Dianne, I cannot imagine having to live with that kind of problem. Couldn't she buy a small space heater to keep at least one room warm while she was home? I would have been miserable. One of our students lost his heat this cold weekend---they spend the days in one room with a portable heater---hopefully his was fixed when he got home--they didn't even have hot water for showers. The spray can of deicer for the windshielf would also work on those locks that froze up on her---she should keep one in her car---good thing she had the hot water in the thermos. Are you having the yoyo weather for the next 2 days at your house? Even my friend Joy up near Erie will experience some---and she has 2 feet of snow that will melt with rain, then freeze and more ice on top---it is not going to be fun driving up there this weekend. How did your mom's appointment go?
Betsy, sorry the weather interfered with the friend's visit--did you put off cooking that dinner until tonight? Sorry about the other friend.
Terri, we didn't hear what the doctor had to say. Waiting to hear that.
Got home and dh wanted to go to our normal Tuesday night place for dinner---so we went. But I had stomach problems last night--might be from the meds I have been taking for my knees so going to not take that today and see how I feel---I don't feel sick, just the tummy and lots of acid---yuck! I am pretty sure it wasn't the dinner as dh was fine and we had the same thing.
Going to the pool tonight--that will help the knees today.

On phone, wrote a short post, lost it, came back, sigh.

It’s been a day. Icy roads brought early dismissal to DH’s school and forced our friend to postpone his visit until tomorrow. We also learned our friend Tim has a complicated form of renal cancer so he and his wife headed straight to Madison. They will see a specialist there tomorrow. Prayers welcome.

Leaving before post disappears again.

Morning! Betsy--the challenges have been water, nutrition tracking and now a new habit. So I am doing 10 squats and 10 lunges each side every day. I can bang those out even when I forgot till bedtime!

Mom will make one trip to Madison (about 90 miles) and then should be able to see the same doctor/practice locally--they come to her hospital once or twice a month, I think. This all started when she had dental work done and sat with her mouth way open for several hours. At least, that is what she points to. I am just glad they got someone to drive--Dad is almost 85 and goes fast, then slow, then fast, then slow.....one of those drivers that I yell at in my car! And they don't do GPS so could get lost easily.

I did zip my coat yesterday but no hat/gloves--I was just going from the mall to the parking lot. So Betsy--I still have my WI blood! The pool class was really good, Cathy--but apparently we have a teacher who is having some mental health issues--I do hope the Y cuts her some slack and that she can see her doctor and get back on an even keel. I am going to a weigh lifting class today.

Terri--DD1 got home last night--their train was actually a bit early pulling in! So they puttered 8+ hours in LA--rented a car to get from train to plane and to give them a place to store the suitcases and they drove to a beach and parked and just sat and watched the water and rested. DD1 thinks SIL has a sinus infection now. The cats forgave them--once they were given kibble! I didn't get a count of hairballs yet--YECH! Glad you can "handle all those kids", Terri! LOL

Cathy--DD3 has her heat fixed. I know I mentioned that it was giving her grief since Thanksgiving. She got home last Sunday and it was 57 in her apartment--someone had left the building door propped open and it was 20 outside. Her electric mattress pad kept her warm till she had to get up. Well--they came and fixed the pump that was bad on Monday so she has had it 72 in her place since it was fixed! I cannot imagine being as cold as she had dealt with all the time. Hope you are cozy today.

Anne--I hope things do get nailed down for you--cannot plan with things are not set! We have small groups starting at church tomorrow but we will miss 2 so I am not starting--turns out I will co-teach the last one but she will have to meet with the pastor since I won't have time before we go or after we come back. Then it will be Lent....

Betsy--I hope you have a good week--slightly shorter? DD2 let me know that they have a delayed opening today so she won't be teaching. She did have to thaw out the padlock and the door lock to get in to deal with the birds yesterday--boiling water in the hot water bottle thawed things. I am so glad she figured that out!

Had a nice lunch at Ruby Tuesday's -- got the salad bar. That used to be about $6-7 and now it is $10.

Dianne, hope your mom got some relief from the doctor but imagine she will have to go for some tests, etc. How far a drive is that? You sure were brave to go to a water class yesterday. I don't think any of us went to the pool last night. Just going out to lunch was enough to prove that we didn't want to be out in it later. At least you didn't need the generator too much.
Betsy, hope your friend got there in time for dinner. Did you save me a piece of pie? LOL Slipping on ice while driving can be scary but at least it has taught her that you have to be extra careful, esp. as you approach lights or stop signs. Hope Dela was not too mad at you----LOL
Terri, funny that you mentioned socks. I wore my pair from you yesterday and they kept my feet warm. I even wore my short boots to help with that. Of course you knew how to handle that many kids---but hope none of them were carriers of the flu and haven't passed it on to anyone else. I bet they did need baths after all that running around outsdie Where you live, it is a good thing that you have that generator.
I bundled up to go out yesterday---wore my cuddle duds under my pants and my sweatshirt, wore my short boots, and had one of Terri's scarves around my neck. Lunch was good but it was cold where we sat---not too bad for me since I was prepared for it. Dh had 3 shirts on and his lined pants so he was ok too. After a pleasant lunch, we went by Michael's craft store and picked up my picture that they had framed for me. When we got home I put it up where I wanted it and it just fit. I did get the spare room straightened up---need do dust, mop, and vacuum in there but at least you can get to the bed and use it if I have a guest or 2.
Another really cold start to the day---I was hoping they would take pity on the school walkers and for those waiting for the bus but no go on that so I have to go out in the bitter cold this morning---yuck! I would layer up again but think I might be too warm at school if I did---but I am going to wear a top and my warmest sweater today.

Cathy, I didn't do much yesterday either. I finished knitting a pair of socks, so now have another to add to my gift stash, and watched some things on Netflix. It's great that you have those new windows in! I wasn't cold here, but I did have a lap blanket over me most of the day.

I still have all the kids and the last word on Devon is that they think he has the flu. He has a temp of 103*, no appetite (but no vomiting), and pain in the bottom of his tummy. They live 40 minutes from us and we're another hour to the hospital and she was home with 3 kids and no car today. That's why DIL2 went out and brought them all into town so at least she'd have transportation if she needed it. So I'll get them fed in the morning and drop them off with DIL2 on my way to my doctor's appointment.

Funny conversation with one of the adopted grandgirls as I was herding the three girls through our shower while Steve pushed 3 boys through the other shower upstairs:
Allie Grace: Nanny, I'm sorry if all these kids are overwhelming.
Me: Do you think I'm overwhelmed? Do I look stressed out?
Allie Grace: Now that you mention it...no, you don't look stressed at all. You're pretty good at dealing with a lot of kids!

I'll take that. Thanks Allie!

No snow here, Betsy, but surely some at the higher elevations. Neither of my houses are above 1,000 ft above sea level, but both are near mountains. The canyon house is in the foothills of the Sierras and the log house sits between summits in the Northern Coastal Range at about 680' above sea level.

We are finally seeing some sun today and the power came back on around midnight last night. I heard that there was wind involved with the outage this time, but that's just hearsay. I am thankful that our house is designed to function off the grid so that, even without the generator, I can still stay warm, have hot water and cook. Steve's glad the rain has stopped, as he's going to be flagging traffic again tomorrow and Wednesday. The rain has brought down a lot of rocks and some slides that will now have to be cleaned up, so he might be working more soon. It will depend on how much work the company gets called for.

DIL2 called this morning to ask if I could be on standby to keep kids today in the even that she had to take a friend to E.R. with her little boy. This is the family we've adopted into ours and who join us for Christmas and most all our family celebrations. They think their little guy may have appendicitis, so they've decided to take him in and I now have 4 grands and 2 adopted grands. Did I mention how glad I am that it's not raining? They've all been fed and are now outside tearing up the hillside, playing Hide & Seek Tag. I may have them all night if Devon needs surgery, so I'll have to put something together for dinner to feed them all. Better see what I have...

I'm sorry to hear about your mother's pain, Dianne. I hope she's got somewhere to go and sincerely hope they can help her. When Steve and I took that run (Southwest Chief), we were hours behind schedule because an engineer had worked his maximum # of hours and had to be replaced. I'm not sure why they hadn't planned for that -- or if they had, but ran into another glitch, but we ended up being put on a bus in LA to catch another connection in Bakersfield. We got a refund for that leg of the trip because we'd paid for 1st class and rode Coach. Some people were pretty put out, but I'd do it again. I was not in a hurry and we were comfortable, so we didn't care. I hope you find your ski clothes in good shape!

Power outages on both coasts, oh my! Terri, I saw how much rain southern California was getting but I thought you were supposed to be getting snow in your area. As long as it doesn't freeze, I'm happier with rain.

Anne, thanks for the link. I have a quieter day today with DD2 at home so I'll watch it later. it would drive me crazy not to be able to firm up travel plans as well, hope your sister finalizes things so you can too.

Cathy, I confess I did not find that toy for Dela. Even though I turned the heat on in the early afternoon down there, it was still very cold in the late afternoon and DH had a nice tempting warm fire upstairs. Children do not have school today but teachers have recordkeeping day. The Catholic schools were off on Friday as well so they got a nice four day weekend and I got to hang out with Cashton, love that boy. Dela loves him too but she was feisty with him here because she had to share me with more than the babies. DH really liked the gift exchange item and wants to use it on our porch this summer. I agreed to the purchase on the contingency that we put it back in the exchange unless we find something we like better. LOL to not being able to find it.

Dianne, sorry to hear about your mother's pain issues but happy they found a ride. DH and I agree with your football brothers. Stay warm as you pack for your skiing trip. I am sure the LTGL challenge was drinking water last week but what is it this week? DD2 doesn't seem to have lost confidence with the "accident," phew!

An out of town friend we have known since college is going to be passing through tomorrow on his way home so he'll be stopping in and hopefully sharing dinner with us. DH had me change the menu so we'll be prepping farmhouse pork and apple pie tonight after we eat leftover soup. What a great day to have soup, it's COLD.

Have a great day!

Morning! Terri--they had never done the southern run so were enjoying it. They should be in LA by 9 AM but we'll see! We kept losing power last night, too--and the generator was slow coming on--it would just get rolling and the lights would come back on. Not sure what was going on. I didn't sleep well.

Anne--I guess NE will be happy--and the rest of the country rooting for LA. My football brothers did agree that the NFL wanted NE to win and the refs did all they could to make that happen. Stay warm!!

Betsy--my folks did find a ride to Madison--they are going so Mom can see a pain management doctor. She has pain in her neck that JUST won't stop and I have seen place out here that would help -- she finally got someone to hear that she needs that in WI. So I hope they can find a nerve block or something that will let her be comfortable.

Cathy--I am going to the Y this AM for a water class that I usually don't do. Then meeting my girlfriend for lunch. Didn't get the clothes out yet--but I will today.

Keep warm!!

Anne, his favorite meal is usually pot roast, but he has bought himself a crockpot and fixes it often for himself but he doesn't fix meatloaf so I guess that is why he had a craving for it.. He has become quite a cook--from necessity---and I am proud of that. He was the one who wanted to learn to cook simple things while he was living at home so I am not surprised that he continued. Did you get to stay in your pjs all day? HOpe you did---what a mess your roads must have been.
Dianne, we started the day at about 50---I wore a jacket to church but I really didn't need it and I didn't fasten it up---but when I came out, boy, did I need to fasten it up---temps had dropped about 20 degrees in that 2 hours time period and just kept dropping. I kept checking the weather on my tablet all evening---the last I checked the feel like temp was 5 degrees about 10--I went to sleep after that. Good idea to check to see if there are any problems with the snow clothes so you don't have a big surprise there. Hope you can replace at a decent price if something needs to be replaced. Glad you might have a home for one of those tvs.
Betsy, Hope you can get those last Santas at a fantastic price next weekend. You must have liked the present you bought for the gift exchange or did you buy it to use for next year's? Don't hide it so well that you can't find it----LOL Did you find that toy for Dela? You have school today? No way around here could we have that happen--although most of the young people could care less when we teach the subject in the high schools. I am kind of surprised that the Lutheran church and your Catholic church to switch pastors, even for just one service. I know there are some similarities but there are some big differences, too.
Terri, sorry you have lost power again but glad you have that generator to keep you going.
Didn't do anything but watch movies yesterday---just stayed warm on the couch as the first part of the afternoon, the temps outside where those in between numbers that the heat didn't come on enough. Very thankful that we have these new windows with the wind that was blowing. I don't usually hear my wind chimes on the porch but they kept ringing all afternoon.
We are planning on going out today for lunch with my pool friend and her husband---I will be wearing layers for sure and sending dh out to warm up the truck before I go out---LOL Also plan on working on something in the spare room. Stay warm, everyone!

The power came back on Friday evening and was on all day yesterday, but went off again this morning and is still off. It's also still raining buckets but the storm should be tapering off.

Dianne, Steve and I took the same train when we came home from Chicago. It was cheaper than coming straight back across the Rockies and we hadn't taken that line before.

Cathy, DH's regular doctor was an internist but he left and hasn't established with a new one yet. There's only one and he is overbooked as you can tell by the June appointment. He did see an MD so we are happy with that and he can always go to Urgent Care if needed. Everyone else liked the meatloaf, I was just picky and looking back I think it was just too much meat for me. I have noticed that a lot of young children are not fans of any kind of meat. I don't blame you for not wanting Michael to be alone on his former anniversary. Is he still seeing the new woman you mentioned a while back? $39 a night for a hotel is amazing, I hope they do have a hot tub. We have found that fewer and fewer hotels are offering them and we have been disappointed. Yes, DD2 did pass her final class with flying colors but I did help with the last project. 2 1/2 weeks to complete one semester of work is tough for anyone. She starts working four full days weekly on Tuesday, hope she can stay well in the midst of flu season. She has GOT to be well for Chocolate Decadence or she is going to get a complex! My sis-in-law wants to attend the wedding but doesn't relish the ten hour drive each way. She is also one who really enjoys fine dining with linen tablecloths and was stunned to learn the wedding dinner will be pizza. I don't believe she's met the woman he's marrying but she seems nice from what we have heard. We are only slightly below zero
( feels like -7 at the moment) so we aren't too cold yet. We are bracing ourselves for a snowstorm on Tuesday that the weather forecast has us right on the line between "need a snowblower " or "need a shovel." We shopped today so we are all set for whatever Mother Nature brings.

Yesterday we went to one of the gift stores that is closing and bought the last elf and a duplicate of what we put in the Christmas Exchange game this year for 50% off. I restrained myself and didn't buy the three remaining Santas but if they are still there next week I may not be able to do it again. We attended the funeral of our 94 year old neighbor at a Lutheran Church and learned the family loved my soup and another thing. It turns out the last word Blanche said was, " lights " as she pointed to the curtains so they would open them and she could see our lit up porch. She had Alzheimer's and in the end she thought it was Christmas every day and really loved looking at our house. I wish she could have seen Cathy's house!
We did not go to the gravesite since it was so cold so after stopping for a quick lunch at the golden arches we went home and just enjoyed the fire, it was really nice.

Today we went to Mass and our priest was presiding at a Lutheran Church so we had a different one who doesn't make Mass last 75 minutes. The Lutheran pastor will preside at our Mass in February, not sure how that's going to work but I'll let you know when it happens. We had made a brunch casserole and kept it on warm so we had that to come to and it was very good, we'll make it again. Grocery shopping was next on ur list and that wasn't bad since we really stocked up last week. DH is currently watching the football game and I am stalling from cleaning day care but need to get to it. I will respond to other posts later. I HAVE to clean because I promised Dela I would look for a certain toy and I can't face her wrath if I don't do it. emoticon An almost four year old is a good motivator!

Hello. We have temps in the 40s but they are supposed to fall fast tonight. Church was okay--small attendance. DD2 has 2-3 inches of snow and was going to go deal with the birds this AM so she could stay in later.

Hubby found a longer screw at the hardware store so he has the TV all set up. He did order a sound bar but that will come this week. He is happy--and DD3 has expressed interest in the "old" TV. Not sure who will get it but it won't stay here.

Anne--good luck to your sister trying to get stuff set. PJs sound like a great idea today!

Cathy--glad Michael is busy but there is too much of a good thing! I do hope he gets paid for the at home work. Can he let someone in the church know that they are getting ripped off?? We had work done but had someone who did understand what was needed keeping watch so we did okay.

Betsy--I will be getting WI weather the next couple of days! We leave Fri for CO and it should be warmer there. Hope DD2 is okay after her "accident". I know that can play havoc with confidence.

Terri--haven't heard too much but my DD1 and SIL are on a train to LA from Chicago. I am unable to remember but assume you did the northern route. This is the first time they have done the southern route.

I hope to get stuff done today and tomorrow--including getting out the ski stuff and checking on things to make sure no holes, etc.

Hi all!
Happy belated birthday to Matthew, Cathy! I like meatloaf, but I wouldn't have chosen it as my birthday meal, lol! Nice that Michael joined you! Sometimes I think companies like to "rip off" the Catholic Church because they think it is rolling in money. However, it may if you combine all the assets and funds, not really sure if that is true though. In reality each parish maintains itself and has to pay a "tax" to their Archdiocese (if I understand things correctly). So some parishes are well off and others are struggling. Our parish is surviving...though there is a lot of red ink at times! Bummer that the Church Michael is trying to get the sound system set up in is having issues with the other contractors. Sounds like they need a Clerk of the Works from the parish to supervise what's going on! Hope Michael's workload lightens up some, but it is good that there is a lot of work coming up!

Betsy, Yay to no more Math! Glad the snowstorms aren't in your area! What a crazy wait for an internist appointment! I would definitely call the PCP and tell them to get on the horn and move that date up! I found an article about Christmas season and why the Catholic Church ends the season on the Baptism of the Lord. I've attached the link for you if you are interested.

Basically it's Jesus starting His mission as Redeemer of the world.

Dianne, I hope DH found a screw large enough so that you don't have to buy a whole unit for the new TV. Ours has a gasket hanging down which is annoying, but we don't want to buy a new TV just yet. Glad you enjoyed the play. Too bad the weather prevented those last 2 shows from being performed. Are you getting things ready for CO?

Terri, that was quite the full day on Friday! I, too, am not surprised that your iron was low after what you've been going through. Glad you have that generator, as I'm sure Jenny & family are! Hope the electricity has returned!

I can't wait til the plans are set for doing the drive with my sister. Cathy, it would have been fun to stop by...but I guess I'll have to figure out another time for that! I hate the delays that keep happening to setting a plan! She now needs to contact the movers to see if they can move things prior to her coming back. I hope she can reach them tomorrow so we can finalize the plan!
We had snow last night then it turned into freezing rain and rain. It is wet yuck out there. It's a lazy day for me. J is going to clean up the yuck off the cars and walkway...I'm going to stay in my pj's, lol! I need the "down" time! I'm also going to take care of a spreadsheet that never got finished today.

Hope everyone stays warm and cozy today!

Anne

Dianne, guess the drop in tempertures will happen sooner than here---but that makes sense.. It might be a mess here as it has rained all night---still raining--and if it doesn't dry up first, it will be a slippery mess for sure. but hoping the wind will dry it up. Glad you got to see that play---sounds like you enjoyed it a lot.
Betsy, yikes to the ice almost causing you to fall. Surprised the daycare parents didn't tell you about it so that you could put some salt down for them. I cannot believe that your dh can't get an appointment for that long with his history---he needs to see his regular doctor and have them call the Internist---that usually gets you in a lot quicker.. Wonder what your mon did to make meatloaf taste bad? I have only had one meatloaf that I didn't like at a restaurant---they had bbqed it and it was horrible. Michael came for dinner, too. I hate for him to be alone on this day---he got married on that day. He was going home to work on more bids for his job---he has been so busy that he hasn't had time to do it at work. He is super busy with the ones they won and one that seems to never end because of the contractors they hired to redo this church he is working on the sound system for---he says they are doing a lousy job and most times he is there, they are not even there doing the work that needs to be done. It sounds like that church is being ripped off---and I think it is a Catholic church. Joy lives up near Erie, PA. The hotel they are in does have a pool so they probably have a hot tub. LOL The manager offered for them to stay at $39 a night---really good deal for sure. Glad you had that celebration for her finishing up college---taking it that the last class is over and she passed. Shame that she doesn't want to attend that wedding--is it the travel time or who he's marrying?
Finally got the bags of donation delivered and my bedroom cleaned up. Got my shredder out of the spare room and caught up with that chore. Michael and Matthew moved the coffee table back out in the living room so now I can tackle the spare room better.
Hope everyone stays warm with the cold coming thru.

Dianne, the snowstorms seem to be going below us but the cold has returned. The ice midweek was awful and isn't bad today but DD2 still managed to slide into a car at a red light. Fortunately she was tapping the brakes and going slowly enough that there was no damage to either car and the other driver was a good sport with a sense of humor. He pretended there was a lot of damage to freak her out a bit and then waved her on saying he had places to go, phew! The cold has returned so after the funeral we grabbed lunch at McDonalds, got my tea latte at Starbucks and came home to stay. Darn the weather for spoiling the bucket list of your friend! Thank goodness you went last night. What a mess the refunds of tickets will be. How sad if the forecast turns out to be wrong and they could have had the show. Stay safe and warm.

Hello! We have no snow right now--it all melted and there is no standing water. Waiting for the rain to start--I expect we will get just rain and then tomorrow afternoon we will get COLD. We are in a "state of emergency" starting at noon--but no precip so paying no attention. I took hubby out this AM to look for his TV Christmas gift--one of ours makes a high pitched noise that drives him nuts and the newer one (that we inherited from his folks) has a green line that makes him crazy. So--he found what he wanted, brought it home and now he has to get a longer screw to mount it on the TV stand.

"Noises Off" is a British farce--the sister of DD1's godfather played the top billing part and she (and the whole cast) was wonderful! It is a very physical show--lots of in this door just as someone goes out that door--and the 2nd act we were almost rolling on the floor. Bad thing--because of the state of emergency, they cannot do the last 2 shows so last night was the last night. Laurie was very disappointed--this was a "bucket list" role for her. She isn't a professional but really could be. We had fun but it was a late night.

As far as I know, DD1 and SIL are on the train to LA. They were looking forward to the scenery on this trip.

Betsy--I do hope you guys are doing okay with the snow and cold. I am sorry that so many are losing their jobs. What ever happened to "trickle down economics"?

Anne--I hope by March the weather is settled down. LOL to not remembering to go back to the notes. I always plan to but...I have been writing things up as soon as possible because I cannot remember what my notes mean if I don't.

Terri--what a busy day! Mary Poppins returns will be at the local theater while we are gone for $5 and I would go if I could. LOTS of the award winning movies will be there for $5 each. Darn! The only one I might get to see is Green Book--and I would like to see that.

Cathy--are you going to get any snow or just rain? DD2 will be getting snow--8-15 inches plus the ice on top. I hope she doesn't try to get to the birds tomorrow--let someone closer do it!

Well--going to make soup and a roast beef this weekend--soup today cause the roast is thawing. Hugs to all!

Dianne, the Marshfield Figi's closure is putting approximately 300 people out of work. The do have good cheeses and we like their petit fours for holiday celebrations. I grew up in a Coast Guard town and the people there are really stepping up to help as well. I love "Noises Off," it is hilarious, I'm sure it was wonderful with all the talent you have out there. If you are getting the ice that we got, it is awful so staying inside is a great idea. I ventured out to get the mail and nearly fell the second I set foot on our driveway, not sure how all the day care parents got in and out safely. DH's sister is hoping for a snow or ice storm at the end of the week because she doesn't want to make the ten hour drive to Kansas for our nephew's wedding. She just couldn't say no as the eldest because she has stepped into the role of matriarch of the family.

Anne, I hope "them thar" hills are free of ice and snow so you have nearly worry free travels.I thought of you as I was cleaning this morning because I keep finding Christmas items and because my sis-in-law questioned why the Catholic Church is now ending Christmas with John the Baptist and not The Three Kings, any idea? We buy from amazon as well but try to shop locally as much as possible.

Cathy, emoticon to Matthew! He has good taste in dessert but we differ on what we would choose for our birthday meal. Meat loaf was one of the only things my mother made and I didn't like it at all. What area of the country is Joy from? I wouldn't mind being stranded in a hotel due to a large snowfall, it sounds kind of fun, especially if there's a hot tub. Our temperatures have plummeted and our ground is white but we can still see leaves poking through.

Terri, I am also curious as to what you thought of Mary Poppins Returns. You packed a lot into one day. It was noble of you to try to donate blood with all of your health concerns. We got am e mail that our data use was high and we were going to be charged an extra $10 so I have been trying to keep the computer off during the week. I completely understand the magnetizing pull of the wonder of the Internet.

Thursday night we celebrated DH's sister turning 67 and last night we celebrated DD2 completing school! emoticon emoticon NO MORE MATH CLASS! emoticon Today we are switching gears and attending the funeral of a 94 year old woman who has lived with her daughter and son-in-law across the street from us for the past three or four years. I am sad for their loss but happy that I will finally get to know the woman who is my neighbor. She has been consumed with taking care of her mother so rarely left the house unless it was for medical appointments. They are the fifth owners of that home since 1987.

Lastly, DH gave us a scare last weekend when he reported his mouth had gone numb on the left side again and his BP readings at school were quite high. He saw a doctor yesterday who said the numbness was probably from something he ate, possibly MSG , and his BP was down so he wasn't worried, phew! He has an appointment to establish with an internist (his left) on June 11, the FIRST availability!

Dianne, I don't think you should expect that ice to disappear on Monday as it will be a very cold day all day into Tuesday morning. Good idea to stay home in that cold with already having snow on the ground. Will you get more today? I texted with my friend Joy and they are expecting 12 to 18 inches---but that doesn't bother her a bit as she is used to dealing with it---and she is at a hotel for a weekend scrapbooking event---they did say they could stay at the reduced rate if they get snowed in. I would be heading home and staying there---LOL
Anne, are you getting any of that storm? I sure hope the weather cooperates and you don't have bad conditions to drive thru. I think the route you are taking it how we got down to my sister's when she lived in Cherokee, NC. Bummer that it is that route as I would have enjoyed even a short visit, but that route would probably be faster from where she is. Did you put down that date as a reminder that you might not want to have your church picnic on that date? I am sure your memory is good about what you will need.
Terri, quite the productive day. Did you like Mary Poppins? Not surprised your blood was not right for donation. Afterall, you have been very sick over the holidays and still not able to eat a lot of what you usually eat. You see the doctor next week, right?
Betsy, we are having a run or walk for Chocolate here---don't know anything about it---just saw it advertised so i might check into it but it's too cold for me to walk outside unless we are back to more normal temps when it occurs--and who knows with this weather this year.
Nothing special about yesterday---kids did enjoy the snowball fight but fizzled out quickly so we didn't stay as long as I expected. But I did get in some exercise picking up snowballs and chasing some kids around.
Today is my oldest son's birthday--got hold of him last night to see if he wanted a dinner or wanted to go out. He said he would come over if I cooked a meatloaf for him---so that is the menu for tonight's dinner. Plus I will make him brownies. He is 39 today.

We had a productive day in town yesterday. Dentist appointments for cleanings, recycling disposal (all free except for a $2 fee for a broken television), dropped a box of donations at the charity thrift store, the fuel company who delivers our heating fuel to put in an order, the credit union to put in a change of address for DD2, a couple of drug stores to look for a watch band (they don't sell them anymore!) and a knee brace to wear when I go walking, 3 different workingman's stores to buy new raingear for Steve, the blood bank to make a donation (my iron was too low this time), the new Mary Poppins movie, and then groceries and home to put them all away. It was a full day! Today is much slower, but it's still raining so I'll stay inside. The power is out, so Jenny is here with some of her kids. Their house is all electric, so they couldn't even make coffee. We have a big generator that runs our house and the shop/apartment where Mary Beth lives, so I can still use the internet. Anna is getting ready for work, Tim brought firewood in for Steve, and the others are just cuddling with my wood stove.

Dianne, I think I've seen "Noises Off" but am not remembering the plot. Remind me after you've seen it. It's a comedy if I'm remembering correctly. I guess I had forgotten that your vacations were so close together--going from sunny Florida to snowy Colorado! Whew! Have fun and be safe.

Anne, I hope you don't have to travel in bad conditions but it's a good thing your sis won't be doing it alone. It will be good visiting time for the two of you and you'll be safer together.

Betsy, I sometimes wish I hadn't turned on the computer because it seems to magnetize me to the desk for too long! Like today. Time for me to get back upstairs and make some progress!

Hi everyone!
Betsy, that's a real bummer that the stores are closing, but with Amazon becoming quite a conglomerate it isn't surprising. I must admit, I do use Amazon, mostly because I can ship to the kids and grandkids their gifts (sometimes wrapped) and free shipping. I have bought here and then used USPS to ship, but that was wicked expensive! Disney's costumes are great dress up things for the kids! They tend to last, too!

Dianne, glad your DD1 loves bling cuz she sure got a lot of it! Kudos to her! Friday is going to be here before you know it! I'm sure you can't wait to get to CO! Hope you have a good gym workout!

Cathy, thanks for the offer, but I believe we will be driving the inland route along the Shenandoah Valley area...unless there's snow in them thar hills! That's actually my biggest concern...snowy or icy conditions...the trip will take longer, lol! Have fun with the snowball fight!

Terri, hope your knee is feeling better. A good brace is definitely helpful while walking with a "bum" knee! Hope you find a good watchband! I really need to get a new watch...miss being able to just look at my wrist to check the time!

Came home to review my last summer's picnic committee notes. We are supposed to have a meeting on 1/28 and I totally forgot about it. Sadly, my notes are not the best. I think I planned to rewrite them and never got back to it. I'm going to talk with the co-chair and see if she has any so that I make sure I remember things correctly, lol! I also need to double check with the Park Director to see if my note on a post-it that says, "5 & 10 K race for cancer" (for cancer is underlined) and the date of 6/23 is on the lower portion and circled. That had been a tentative Spring date which we bantered around. I can't believe I didn't "translate" my notes, yet at the same time I can...Discovering Christ was just around the corner and I probably started focusing on that, lol!

I have 9 tablecloths to clean up from last night's Sharing Christ meeting. I can not believe how much coffee was spilt last night...weird since the week before they were all as clean as when I put them onto the tables! I should get hopping so that I can take care of a couple of things here at home before going up to the rectory by 10!

Have a great Friday! And yes, T.G.I.F.!!!

Morning. We have snow on the ground now--and will get lots of rain this weekend and then a flash freeze. Yes, we leave Fri for skiing--lots to get ready before we go.

Betsy, I saw about Shopko but didn't know about the cheese place--that was always a gift I WANTED to get! I used to like those little cheeses. I wonder how many people that puts out of work. We have Coast Guard stations here--people are stepping up to help them--as some of said, it is slavery--forced to work with no pay--and no choice. Lots of people had vacations planned and paid for and lost them because they were not allowed to take the days off.

Cathy--yes, the medals are massive. The 10K and more shirts are really nice--mine is just a T shirt--the others are wicking running shirts. My DD1 loves the bling! She got a big medal holder for Christmas and a small one from her friend after running the marathon. She will put both up in their house.

Terri--hope the snow out there doesn't cause any issues. I saw the Sierras were measuring in feet. How is the knee?

Anne--I hope your sister can set some dates so you can "make room" for the trip. I know how that goes!

Heading to the gym now for some weight work. Need to stop at one store that will hopefully have desk calendars on sale cheap! Going to see a play tonight--good friend is in it--"Noises Off" is the play. Tomorrow is the symphony right here in town. Then Church on Sunday and we will "batten down the hatches" and stay in till the ice is gone on Monday....

Anne, sorry that the job didn't work out but at least she can get her job back up in your area. If you need a place to stop, you could come here for an overnight but you might want to go a bit further---but the offer is here. I just need a heads up on approximate date as the room needs some stuff moved out---which is on the agenda soon--and that would give me a reason to get things done in there---LOL I do prefer answering in the morning, too---so I understand the not having time then.
Terri, hope you got all your errands run as well as the dental visit. The weather is playing havoc with my knees, too. I wore a brace on both knees yesterday and they didn't ache at all. I saw where some road got 39 feet of snow dumped on it by an avalanche---boy, that is going to take a while to clear---LOL---would that be something that people like Steve's extra job would do? Guessing it would take loaders and dump trucks to take it off to clear that mess.
Dianne, smart of dh not to go in and spread the germs. Wow, the medals are massive---but of course, Disney does things up right! Are you going to put your medal on display? I went to Michael's last night as frames were half price plus I had a 20% off, even sales items to get frames for the picture of my mom and the big one of my sister and I ---that one they are mounting for me so the glass doesn't touch the frame---it was so big I didn't want a matted frame. So with the sale, coupon, and paying for the work, it was $36. Nice frames are not cheap! Even at half price. Sounds like you will have lots of snow for your skiing according to the weather report today.
Betsy, hope the soup is a big hit for that family---nice of you to do that. I should make something for our assistant. He came in yesterday to get his W2 form and said that they had to do more to his wife than expected so she will be out of work for 12 weeks instead of 6---either that or ask if he wants a fast food delivery from some place as often you get tired of not being able to eat out. I found a Disney store in Branson and got Reagann a Star Wars Costume on sale---it was originally over $60 and I got if for less than 20---it is definitely one she could wear to play around in---very sturdy. Hope you don't get all your normal snow at one time this year.
Glad it is Friday---having a snowball fight today after lunch to start out Fun Friday---staying with the Arctic theme. Kids really enjoyed that the last time. No plans for the weekend except to tackle some donation stuff and maybe take that off Saturday so I have room to start more---LOL

I still haven’t turned the computer on so I’m on my phone. This weekend I’ll check back to make sure I answered any questions.

Dianne, that’s a great photo of DD1 with an impressive amount of medals!
Sorry about your pending weather. Our leaves are white again but barely. This is the strangest January weather for us. The cutie who wants to help his daddy with a lemonade stand is no longer in my care but if he were I would give them a break. I think I’ll surprise them with a gift card for a pizza next week.

Anne, I’m sorry for your sister’s troubles but happy you’ll get to spend time together. I don’t have to wash all the sheets every week but I do most of them. Our washer holds a lot so I can usually do it in two loads, three if I have all beds stripped.

Cathy, I agree the Disney clothing is much better quality. We used to buy DD2’s Halloween costumes at the Disney Store in a mall an hour from here and she wore them for dress up for years. We were sad when that store left. Speaking of stores leaving, one of our major discount stores is going under so we have two more store closings coming in March. ( Shopko, Dianne) Figi’s of Marshfield just announced their closing too. They are a meat/cheese/candy/gift store that operated largely from catalog business.

Terri, you asked if ice would be better for your knee. It would be OK to alternate heat and cold to see what works best. Hot water is good with a little lemon juice.

Today is my sister-in-law’s birthday so we took her out for dinner and tried a different restaurant. We’re we ever grateful we had a $100 gift certificate from DH’s last principal because we spent nearly double that!

Have a Good Friday! I will be making the soup for the people across the street in the morning so I won’t be back until tomorrow night.

Morning! I am still flu-free. Hubby thinks he has a head cold so he didn't go to the office today--just slept in and is working from home. I miss my folks at the home but don't want to take any illness there so will stay out till after we got home in Feb. We leave one week from tomorrow to go skiing in CO! And we are supposed to get rain/snow/freezing rain/intense cold tonight and again Sat into Sun and then Sun into Monday. Wonderful.....

This is my DD1 with her medals. They weigh about 8 ounces each--they are substantial! She was getting one more on the cruise--it isn't in the photo. I got the medal farthest to the left in the photo--it is Mortimer--the original drawing of the mouse.

Cathy--the time share we stayed in WAS the Kedani Village Resort--we could look out the windows and see zebras and giraffes and wildebeests. It was pretty cool.

Terri--the soup sounds great--we had ham steaks last night cause they were $1.25 each at the store--opened 2 cans of veggies and we had a meal. Quick and easy cause I was tired!

Anne--nice of you to offer to drive with your sister. I would love to be closer to my sister--maybe some day.

Betsy--so sorry for your charge's Dad. If this was really a crisis, then the President should have dealt with it while he had both houses in the control of his party. Now--he needs to get people back to work or we are going to go into a recession. The Wall Street Journal is warning of trouble ahead... Are you able to give them a little time before they have to pay you? A few places out here are making accommodations but not mortgage companies or towns where taxes are due. And THOSE are the big bills.

My massage yesterday found all sorts of sore spots. I was TIGHT! So I need to do something today but not sure what. Got going way too late to go to the pool. I did do an Epsom salt soak last night--helped some and I fell asleep very quickly!

Hope everyone has a good day!

Dianne, are you still flu-free? It was very thoughtful of you not to take a change with the folks at the home. They sure don't need more to deal with! How was your time with the pretend grands?

Betsy, that's funny about Dela's pricing. I hope you find the pictures? Would someone have moved them?

Cathy, I'm glad you have the warm pool classes to help you. There isn't anything like that for me. There's a gym on the coast (an hr. away) but I'm not sure about their pool or how warm it is.

Anne, thanks for the explanation about your sis. Too bad about that job not working out--what a disappointment! But you'll probably be glad to have her back near you so you can visit more often. I chuckled about your time with your morning coffee because that's exactly how I used to feel. Since all my stomach troubles, I've been off coffee and am sitting here sipping a cup of hot water. Not as satisfying, but it's fooling my brain enough to get me by.

It rained hard yesterday and my knee was really sore--maybe even swollen, but I couldn't tell. It just felt very stiff. I put some heat on it while I sat in Steve's recliner before bed and it's a little better this morning. But all that is to say that I didn't go for a walk yesterday. We have dentist appointments on the coast today, so will be dropping off our recycling and some thrift store donations, buying some groceries and a few other things I have on my list. I might buy another knee brace since the other one is in the canyon. It's worth a try if I want to be walking every day. I also need a new watchband, so a drugstore will probably be the place for both of those things. It's been raining hard all night, so we'll leave early in case there is trouble on the road.

Hi everyone!
I keep getting interrupted when I try to post and I really dislike trying to post from my phone. Also, I haven't had time in the mornings to get onto my computer, which is where I prefer to read and post from. However, today I was up at 5:00 and managed to get a number of things done and get on here, lol!

Cathy, glad you had a helpful sub and that Diego wasn't there! How much snow did you end up with? Yay! to Howard being able to get back to the pool!

Betsy, that's a lot of sheets! Do you usually do them all at one timeframe? How sad that a youngster has diabetes! Rich's gs has it. I think he was diagnosed about 1.5 years ago. It took a while, but he has adjusted to living with diabetes, as did his family! Yay! that DH can go to the Chocolate Decadence Date Night!

Terri, glad you had a good appointment with your doctor. You managed to get a quick appointment with the surgeon, especially since he's been away! Hope the diet keeps those pains at bay! Hope Steve gets some extra time in before you have any surgery so that you can replenish the slush funds!

Dianne, what an awesome trip and great job by all that raced! How good of the sisters to "push" DD3 along! Did you have fun with your practice grands? When will you go back to the nursing home? Are the pictures on the computer or hard copies? I'm sure either way you will enjoy viewing them and going down memory lane!

I did meet up with my sister. The job for her husband and her was in SC, but they moved to GA in an area that was more developed. However, the ride to and from work got to her husband, so they moved into the development that he is affiliated with. Unfortunately, his job is panning down due to some bad decisions by the company that hired him...the property they purchased still has some title issues. Therefore, he is going to stay and help them until March, but my sister is going to come back to MA. She had a good talk with her former boss and thinks she can get her old job back. I will fly down to help her drive here (she hates that long, long drive) and she will stay with me until her husband comes back to MA. I can't believe how many appointments I have between now and late March...some are meetings and others are appointments. I am going to call her later today to see if she can give me a more specific timeframe so that I can either move appointments or work around them.

Time to get moving...it's already after 7! Why can't time slow down, especially when I am having my morning coffee! LOL!

Have a great day!

Anne

Dianne, whatever it cost, it was worth it. I plan on doing that. Hope you enjoyed the time with practice grands. Nice that you are available to do that for them. I really want to stay at Animal Kingdom resort when we go---we could do timeshare but there's just something about staying at a Disney resort that makes it extra special. Do you have pictures of the medals that dd1 got for running all the races?
Terri, nice to make a huge pot of soup and then having someone show up for dinner so that you could share. Sometimes I find heat helps more and then other time cold---lately heat is helping mine more---mine are aching from the cold and the wet weather so the heat has really helped. Wearing a brace while walking is a good idea---sometimes I wear mine for the day if it is achy and then it feels fine for several days afterwards.
Betsy, glad your soup made for a nice dinner. We had leftover soup for our dinner last night so it sounds like we all ate soup. Dela just knows the important toy, that's why it was so expensive---LOL You can find decent prices for some things at Disney---but some things are costly---like Disney princess costumes---but they are much nicer than the ones sold at Walmart so they should cost more. Hope you find those pictures this weekend.
Easy day yesterday---another good sub was in and Diego was absent, so I had a lot less to do. I did make a polar bear as an example for the kids when we do that this week. That was interesting as I had to decide what needed to be glued down first and what next after that. That will make it a lot easier when the kids do it.
Good pool workout last night. Warm moist air helped my nose---think I have an ear infection from all the pressure I have had ---that hurts in waves. Using saline spray to clear out the passages. Dh was finally able to go back to the pool last night so that was nice.
Almost Friday day ---yippee!

Terri, glad your soup worked out so well, I finally made ours today and it was delicious with warm crusty bread and mixed fresh fruit. I didn’t get here this morning because I was so busy making the soup.

Cathy, I swear I put those pictures in Steven’s room and even told DH when I did it but they aren’t there! All of our Christmas items are in red tubs or on a certain shelf in the basement. Endometriosis and kidney stones would be awful, poor teacher.

Dianne, texting is great ! Thanks for the explanation of the Memory Maker. You are a Godsend to your pretend grands and their parents.

This post is from memory on my phone as we didn’t even turn our computer on today.

Corbin is six years old and a former day care cherub. His mom posted that he wants to open a lemonade stand so his brother can have a birthday party, the family can order a pizza and his Daddy can get paid. His Daddy works in a prison and is a victim of the government shutdown. How long can this go on?

On a more positive note, Dela opened a toy store for me today. She couldn’t tell me how much items cost until she put them on “ the scale “ and imitated scanning. A baby toy cost a dollar, a toy frying pan was five dollars and a stuffed Mickey Mouse was $60! She hasn’t even been to DisneyWorld but she still knew the pricing is outrageous!

That Memory Maker was a nice gift for you, Dianne. You probably won't be doing this kind of vacation again, so having all the photos will be fun.

Steve was up at 5:30 and I got up at about 6:00 to see him before he left for work. That's a little earlier than we usually wake up, but not too much. I've got a fire going, laundry in the machines, and have eaten my toasted bagel w/a skiff of jam (no butter).

Betsy, I made my beef barley soup yesterday and it was as good as I thought! I used a small chuck roast for the beef. I seared it in the skillet and then cut it into chunks so that I could remove as much of the fat as possible. Of course, there was far too much soup for the two of us, but we ended up having DS2's family over for a visit and they hadn't had dinner yet so it was perfect! Steve had gone to town with DS1 to get rid of his 3 huge pigs and they arrived home at about the same time, So as it turned out, I saved one qt. jar of the soup for us to have today and the family devoured the rest. I might actually make some more before long--it was that good!. Steve even took some in a thermos for his lunch today.

Cathy, you're getting a lot of short weeks lately, but then you're also having to do a lot of teaching when you ARE at school. I'm sorry to hear about the teacher's kidney stones. Our DIL2 has a kidney disease that causes her to manufacture kidney stones, so she's dealing with them on a regular basis. She's doing a lot of homeopathic things to keep them small and she can now tell when they're moving. She's even gone in to have them "blasted" once to break up the big ones and-- Oh what a miserable experience that was! But they were too big to pass and would've killed her kidney. That was nice of Howard to clean off your windshield for you. Glad you were able to drive to work with no problem.

Anne, I know you're busy, busy, but hop off your treadmill for a moment to say hello.

I may try to get out for a walk if the rain lets up today, but my knees are really protesting. I'm not sure what to do about that. Maybe I need to use a knee brace when I walk to add support? I have one at the other house for when I use the weedeater in the rocky area near the creek--but that doesn't help me here. I'm using analgesic cream and a hot rice bag. Maybe ice would be better?

Morning! Betsy--the memory Maker is a copy of ALL the photos taken at Disney--they scan your wristband so know it is you. We get copies of everything for the one price--not sure what that price is but...not cheap. They got photos from Tower of Terror--Terri, I had forgotten that it goes up and then down and then up again, etc. Our family does NOT scream--once in awhile you'll hear an "oh" but no screaming. The Mt Everest roller coaster was the closest I came to screaming--you go backwards for aways and that was unnerving!

Cathy--yes, the time shares have buses as well--we didn't have a car at all. I did order from Prime Now--food was delivered for free if I ordered over $20. It was from Whole Foods so wasn't hard to hit $20. Worked out okay but they didn't label it with our name but rather labeled it "baby". NO IDEA why and I did complain at bit so they don't do that again.

Betsy--it is 19 here today--my blood is thin!! Hope you are doing okay with the weather. The soup will be nice for the neighbors--I think a lighter food is good. My parents went to my aunt's wake/funeral. She had 4 boys and 2 girls (and for awhile when we were all together, there were 5 kids under the age of 7--we didn't see them too much during that time!) and there was a great granddaughter--that was the only one missing from that side of the family. I am the oldest of all the kids by 7 months. Not sure what my uncle is going to do--he is 86 and she did all the bills, cooking, cleaning, planning, banking, etc. One son lives at home but he didn't do anything either. Should be interesting to see what happens.

Well--I did my exercise--now a massage!! Then babysitting after school. Texting is wonderful--mom forgot she had a meeting after school so just let me know what to do. I do what she tells me!

Hi, Anne!

Dianne, I am surprised that they still had those decorations up but glad you got to see them---aren't they just beaurtiful? How was the Disney Timeshare? did they offer transportation to the parks like the Disney hotels do? I am looking forward to going to the Star Wars Cantina---LOL---should be interesting when it opens. The Disney memory thing is so neat---I would want that because then you don't have to try to capture memories that really can't be done with everyone in the picture. And the ones on the rides are pretty cool. Glad you are being careful about the home---they say a lot of people pick up illnesses from the plane rides.
Betsy, does his brother have juvenile Diabetes? That is rough but they say that pump really works well for them----as long as they remember to eat properly. Has your dd1 made any friends at school yet? Or is she still trying to get a handle on what she is teaching and not had much time to socialize? Hope you find those pictures soon. I put my pictures in the same place every year and upstairs, not down in the basement. But I did have to remind dh of the bin that had upstairs stuff that got stored down in the room in the basement--at least I remembered where it was. So we actually have an extra bin---and it's upstairs--so If we find something new to buy on clearance, we can store it in there. We actually bought a few things at the Dollar General the other day--and I do want to get to Michael's craft store to see what they have left--plus they have frames on sale this week and I need the one for the big picture of my sister and I and a special one for my mom's picture as a child.
Terri, glad you had someone to walk with you. Nice that Steve can get some work in now but not when you have the surgery and the recovery time. How far away in the hospital where you would have it? My teacher just got told her issues last week were kidney stones---and they are talking surgery for them---she will find out more on Friday.
Kids were fine yesterday---they enjoyed having an extra day off. Roads were pretty good but my car was still covered with snow yesterday morning. Dh cleared the windows for me and the sun melted off most of the snow yesterday so I can drive myself to work today.
Have a good day!

I got my walk to the top of the ridge done and Tim came with me this time as Steve was off helping DS1 take 3 hogs to town. They took one to the butcher and 2 to the livestock auction to sell.

Timothy is going to be 15 in July and is a strapping lad, as they say. He's as tall as Steve and built bigger. He loves working with the men on their projects, being the only boy of six kids. Since he's homeschooled, he has lots of extra time during the day, so we tend to see a lot of him.

Steve just got called to work tomorrow so he's putting a lunch together. There was another slide on our highway and he'll be flagging traffic. No truck driving this time, but the flaggers actually get paid more, so that's okay. Our nest egg is depleted, so I'm glad he's doing it.

Thank you Dianne. From your mouth to God's ears, as they say.

We did the Tower of Terror at Disneyland when we last went with DS2's family. Every time I get into one of those things, I ask myself "What were you thinking!!??"

I've been busy on the computer most of the morning and am going to run out of daylight if I don't go out for my walk now. Maybe I'll check back later~

Terri, DD1 has a spacious home but since she lives alone, she enjoys working in the company of other people. She found a coffee shop she likes in a neighboring town but they aren't open on Sunday and there are very few people there. I have sheets/blankets from three Pack n Plays, two queens, one full and one twin bed when I do all the bedding. It takes longer because the deep pocket fitted sheets have to be washed separately or all the other laundry balls up in the pockets. How old is your gs Timothy? It will be nice to have an extra person to help both of you . Prayers that the gall bladder surgery is all you need. How wonderful that you have an excellent surgeon available to you.

Dianne, it sounds like you had a great time in Disney World, I bet you will take a while to recover from the exhaustion of the crazy hours and the busy schedule. Thanks for sharing with us. What exactly does the Memory Maker do and how does it work? It sounds like a great gift. I am curious as to what the LTGL challenge is this week, I didn't sign up in time (partly because Chocolate Decadence is coming) but I have been trying to incorporate some of the LTGL challenges into my eating/drinking habits. All of my jeans have holes in the knee(s) but I refuse to replace them until I get my weight back down where it should be.

Cathy, sorry you didn't get a delay, do you think you needed one? It's a good thing you weren't in the middle of a shower or cooking when they came to tell you the water would be turned off. I hope the students behave for you today. My Christmas dresses are still out but they will just get hung in the back of my closet. DH doesn't have anything that fits into the Christmas clothing category except a few ties and they just hang on a hanger with his other ties. I still haven't found the old framed black and white photos I put away to decorate, wonder if I will find them before next Christmas, sigh.

I mentioned Chocolate Decadence earlier and I was contemplating not going this year but DH can finally go, both DDs want to go and a friend texted to see if we were going so I went ahead and reserved a table yesterday. I only have two spots left to fill and that shouldn't be too tough. Yesterday I tried a new recipe for BBQ pork sandwiches and they were delicious but a tad too spicy for my bland palate. The directions said to cook a pork shoulder roast at 325 for six hours and that temperature seemed way too high for me for that long but I did it anyway. The edges burned and it was a bit dry so next time I will cook it at 325 for an hour and then turn it down to 225 or 250, any thoughts on that? Today we are going to have leftover tangy meatballs for supper so nobody is going to eat them for lunch. Tomorrow I will finally get to the beef barley veggie soup and if I get real ambitious, I am going to ask to borrow a slow cooker and make two so I can share with our neighbors across the street. They have a lot of friends and family coming in for a funeral of the matriarch of the family on Saturday. We already gave them some wine but I really want to help with food as well. It's between the soup and a lasagna.

Michael is coming early again today because his brother has to return to the out of town doctor for more work on his pump for diabetes. The first week there was only saline in the pump to accurately measure his levels and familiarize his parents with using it but today they will switch over to insulin.

Have a terrific Tuesday!

Betsy

Morning--cold here. It is 17 degrees.

Cathy--yes, the 2nd time at Star Tours was just a bit different--that was cool. We didn't see any of the stuff after dark at any park--we went to bed. It was super crowded on Fri afternoon and Saturday. They have thousands come just to race and it seemed about a 50-50 split with bringing families or making it a girl/guy weekend. I did get to the hot tub once and there were 4 gals--2 from Michigan, one from FL and 1 from Germany--who had come to do the 10K. They may try the half next year after talking to DD3. Hubbies stayed home with the kids. (And at least one mom had preprogrammed the Alexa to remind him to take the supper out of the freezer and to do laundry.) We didn't see the Star Wars new area up close but the construction is visible from the highway. That will be fantastic--and they are going to be raising the prices at Disneyworld--already did at Disneyland. PLUS they will be doing demand pricing--they sure know how to make $$ from that mouse! Oh--the Christmas decorations were still up--and they were still piping in Christmas music. Not sure when that will all come down but over 2500 trees up in the parks and resorts.

Cathy--glad you got warning on the water being off. I had made soup before we left so that was waiting for us in the fridge--we both ate too much so we will be "light" for the next couple of days. I am glad I got my Christmas stuff put away already.

Betsy--I see the new Packer coach is already working. Sure hope the Pack can do better this next year. My aunt passed away last week and her "ceremony" was last night in Appleton--my nephew is home from college so he drove my folks over. I am very glad he was able/willing cause Dad isn't so good with new places and driving any more. And I think the weather was bad--didn't get to talk to them. I did text my nephew to make sure they knew we had gotten home.

DD1 and her hubby are on the Disney cruise--then they fly to Chicago on Friday, stay overnight and then take the train to LA. They figure that train is going to stop running soon and wanted to get that ride. I hope they can fly out okay--sounds like more and more airports are having issues with TSA not being available. I don't know any federal employees who are furloughed this time--my brother was back in the first or second one back in the 90s. This is really dragging on for them--wish we could get the government reopened. (Well, I wish a lot of things but hope we can agree on getting people back to work--we will be paying them for the time even if they DON'T work--and I'd be mad if I was essential and had to work and my not-essential buddy didn't work and still got paid....but it certainly isn't the workers' fault.)

So--I need to get to the grocery store, sort laundry but don't have to do it yet (loved having washer/dryer in the rooms) and maybe get all the plants watered. Not going to the home yet--I shouldn't be harboring flu but just in case....

Betsy, hope you don't pick up the cold but I guess that is a kind of given. Hope it is nothing worse for them. Didn't do anything really fun yesterday but got a few things accomplished and finished a book and made hamburger vegetable soup for dinner.
Terri, glad you are agreeing to the surgery. So, what can you have to eat? Hoping you can get it scheduled soon so that you can recover before the summer gets here. Nice that Steve will have help when you go back to the canyon and sounds like you will have a card partner while there.
Dianne, wow, with all the races, you did fit quite a bit in there. Was it crowded because of the race people? Doesn't seem the right time of year to be so busy. I enjoyed that Safari ride at Animal Kingdom when we went last time---it's been 15 years---I definitely need to go back---but waiting for the Star Wars stuff to open. I really love the Star Wars ride there---you really do feel like you are going down that trench to blow up the Death Star. Bet they have added to that, too. Did you find it different the 2nd time--heard it changes all the time? Guessing you didn't get to see the Fantasia show at night there. That is one fabulous show. Did you do any night things or not because of the race times? Did DD1 and her dh do a Disney cruise afterwards?
I got the rest of my stuff put back up and those areas dusted. Also cleaned out the cabinet in the spare room and started a donate pile from some of that stuff and now have plenty of space to put stuff if I need it. Also put away the last of the Christmas clothes--had forgot to do Dh's plus I had washed a few of my last things worn and had not put them away either.. I didn't bake ---was thinking of doing that when we had a knock on our door---water main bread and they were preparing it so they were letting us know we wouldn't have water for a while. I ended up starting dinner a bit later than planned because of that but once the water came back on, I was able to make my soup. Good thing I went ahead and took my shower as we did not have a delay this morning---bummer! LOL So need to get ready for work soon.

Welcome home Dianne and thank you for the travel log. I'm exhausted just thinking about all you managed to squeeze into just a few days.

The doctor was able to go over everything with me and I learned that she's a surgeon's assistant to an excellent doctor, so I opted to choose him for my surgery. He's out of the country right now, but I have an appt. for next Tuesday with him and will schedule the surgery after that meeting. So, things are in motion and I have orders for a non-fat, soft diet in the meantime. That's going to be a bit of a challenge, but doable. My liver enzymes are still high, but lower than my first labs, so it's likely that a gallstone moved to block the duct (they're too big to pass) and then shifted back away from it. They'll take a sample of my liver for a biopsy while in there to be sure there's not more going on. Once that's done, we'll know if my problems are over, or just beginning.

Hi! We are home--and I am glad. It was very fun trip but $$$$. I will try to be complete but...ask if I forgot something.

Our trip started with that horrid traffic but we made it to the plane and the plane made it to Orlando. Our suitcases were to be delivered to the room--but didn't arrive till after 7 pm and we had arrived about 3 so we were getting anxious. And the food we ordered from Amazon Prime Now wasn't labeled with our name on it so there was confusion! DD1, SIL and I went to get shirts/bibs for the race on Thursday but SIL wasn't feeling the best so he left DD1 and I to look at shirts, etc and he went back to the condo. He did decide to NOT ran his race on Thursday.

DD1 and I got up at 3 AM to be on the bus by 3:30. It was COLD--around 40 degrees so we had one blanket to wrap around us. We didn't get to start till about 6:10 AM and we were done by 7--walked much of the way. I will have photos later--DD1 bought the Memory Maker package for my Christmas gift so I will be able to access all those photos. (Hubby says he has shown me how to find my photos from my phone--I don't think so--I'll post when I can.) We did Epcot after getting back to the condo and gathering the rest of the group--Frozen is the big draw there--it was okay. We enjoyed the Test Track more--roller coaster--did singles line and had 2 rides quickly. DD2 liked the ride about conservation and growing plants--there is a behind the "seeds" tour there that she would have enjoyed but not enough time. We had Mexican food that night at a place in Epcot--tasty but $$.

Friday AM I poked hubby at 2:45 when his alarm went off and he wasn't moving. He in turn woke DD1--so they made the race (wasn't as cold but they were better prepared) and they did the 10K in about 65 minutes--much faster than we ran on Thursday. It was our job to keep DD1 from using all her "gas" on these runs. We spent the rest of the day at Magic Kingdom--did Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear (2 times) Jungle Cruise, Haunted Mansion (long wait for that one but I did want to do that one). By the time we left, the park was packed--hard to walk around. Fastpass made most of the lines disappear for us. Os--also did Pirates of the Caribbean. That has changed some in the last 23 years--had Jack Sparrow in it now. We made chili in the room for supper and did Christmas--that was nice.

Sat AM the 3 girls went to do the half marathon. Took them 3 hours, 35 minutes--DD3 was NOT ready physically to do it but her sisters hung with her. (DD2 and DD3 are the ones that can push each other's buttons--talk about siblings that don't get along.) DD1 kept DD3 going and they finished together. We went to Animal Kingdom after they showered--had never been there and it was neat. DD2 and I did more of the shows and visiting the animals walks. We ate at Tusker's--saw Mickey, Donald and Daisy and Goofy. $52 per person and the food was not that wonderful but.....we needed one character something. Daisy had been DD2's favorite when she was 5 so that was fun. And DH had a Goofy shirt that he wore out so got a photo with Goofy. The safari ride was great--saw lots of critters very close up. And the Mt Everest ride was a great roller coaster. The Avatar ride was awesome--the photography was just outstanding--glad we had Fastpass cause the wait was 140 minutes. Not sure it was THAT outstanding.

I got up with DD1 for the marathon--just to make sure she was moving. She was out the door by 3:10 and started the race at 5:51 AM. It got hot--it was 80 easily in the sun--so I was worried about her but she did hydrate on the course. She finished about 11 AM--5 hours, 15 minutes. She didn't find her friend to have him pace her but she did okay on her own. We got to Hollywood Studios at 8:20--they said in 2 places they were opening at 8 for Magic Hours--but they weren't open till 8:30--not sure what happened but we got in at 8:30--went right to Star Tours for the Star Wars ride, then to Tower of Terror and then Toy Story Mania. Those were the 3 we really wanted to do. DD3 had a very sore foot so she went to get the bus to go to Epcot for the Marathon finish--we ran and did Star Tours once more then rushed to Epcot for the finish--we sort of just made it!

We all headed back to the hotel after DD1 got her medal, etc--then went for a celebration lunch with friends of hers. We ate at Sanaa in our hotel--they have a "bread service" which is 5 kinds of Indian naan and 9 toppings--that was very good. Finished packing then and we headed to the airport while DD1 and SIL went back to the parks. DD2 and 3 got home fine--our plane was delayed 1.5+ hours due to the snow in the DC area (that is why Cathy had no school) so we didn't land till after 1 AM, then had to get the luggage, a ride to the off-airport parking and then drive home. It was 2:20 by the time we got inside the house so LONG day.

I have practice grand pick up duty today. Not going to the home cause I could be carrying flu bugs--unlikely but still possible. Should be sick already if I am going to have gotten it from the 2 sickies. They are on the cruise ship, I think. Anyway--now to get back on the healthy eating.

Terri--I hope you get all your questions answered!

Cathy--enjoy your day!

Betsy--I hope the kids are not as sick as they sound. And I understand WI not having too many places open on a Sunday morning but none?? That is bad.

Anne--you have been busy--I hope you get a break!

Off to get more done around here. Hugs to all!

Betsy, that's sad that those adult siblings are still bickering like children. I understand that personalities can rub sometimes and you don't always have to be in one another's company; however, when you ARE you need to act like grown ups. It sounds like you had a nice weekend. How many sets of sheets do you have to do when you launder them all? I have 5 beds at my house and a hide-a-bed sofa that very rarely gets used unless we really have a houseful. We used to have two hide-a-bed sofas in the living room AND a daybed upstairs in the common room (a sort of sitting room area), but we have re-homed those. I used to take my checkbooks, ledger and a whole bag of paperwork down to the local coffee shop and sit in a corner to sort it all out every couple of months. Our house was so small and crowded that I couldn't think--so it was my treat to myself to go out to do it.

GS Timothy came over to visit last evening, went for our walk with us and then stayed the night. He and Steve are starting a card game this morning. Tim almost always wins at cards. He's quite the player. He's asked to go with us to the canyon when we go and we've agreed. He can take his school work with him and work there and then help Steve with whatever project he gets into. We're not going to be going anytime soon with my medical issues, though. There's another reason for getting the surgery and having time to recover before the weather gets nice and all the outside work begins. We've got plenty of projects to work on here at the log house too.

Dianne, I'm pretty amazed at all you've been able to do on this trip and am very happy that the flu didn't completely derail DD1's plans. Does her husband run too? You didn't mention him.

Cathy, you've made great progress with the decorations coming down and others going back up. What do you think you'll get into on your bonus day off?

Cathy, you're right, DD1 doesn't need the fancy coffee, she just likes a public environment with free WiFi to do her work. She absolutely loved Caribou coffee where she lived previously. As you know, we don't have sidewalks here in the village but in town, you must clear your sidewalks or the city will do it for you and charge you a bundle. Isn't slush on top of snow the worst? Good for you for keeping up with it yesterday, that will make it a lot easier to clear today. I wanted to make pumpkin spice muffins yesterday with JB but it was his choice and he wanted cookies. Enjoy your gift of a day off courtesy of Mother Nature!

My first "second mother" called last night and talked to me for two hours! Sadly, two of her children don't get along and she wonders what they did wrong in parenting. Her eldest daughter is 46 years old and the son she doesn't get along with lives in Norway so they barely see each other but when they do , it is constant fighting. The daughter is STILL mad at the son for trying to get her kids to eat blueberry pancakes last July , how crazy is that?

Have a great day, my first cherub is here. Oh boy, it's going to be a long week, she has a cold, Landon has a cold and we'll see about the others...

Guess who has an extra day off? heehee!
Anne, wow, you have been busy with lots of company, lots of sickness going around, and lots to do. I sure do hope that soon you get some me time---sounds like you really need it. Sure hope you can fit in the visit with your sister. Didn't she like Georgia or did a job lead to the move to the Carolinas? Nice idea to display your nice Nativity set year round.
Terri, now that you have heard all the things about surgery, I hope you follow thru as you definitely do not want another flare up like at Christmas time. Glad they found another vehicle---she will get used to the new vehicle handling--I think we all have a bit of that with a new one for us---figuring out where all the things are, etc. My pool friend, Nancy, bought a new car and she is still learning all the things in it. Sorry to hear about the muscles. I think that attack took more out of you than you realized. Good that you have Steve to walk with you---if he is not home, you might do house walking just to make sure you are safe when doing it. I know you have that appointment with the doctor today and we will be waiting to hear what she says.
Betsy, figured you were busy like usual on your weekend. Sounds like a busy one but at least some fun in there. LOL to there not being a coffee place where DD1 lives----she will just have to get a machine that makes fancy at her own place. But it really sounds like she was tired of her own company and just wanted to be around people.. I almost baked yesterday but got reading a book and didn't get to it. I think I will today to have a treat to eat during the week---thinking pumpkin muffins.
We got about 3 and half inches by Sunday morning so churches were canceled--then it turned to sleet, then back to snow, then to rain. We went outside about 4 to clear a pathway of slush and the sidewalks of slush because we didn't want a thick layer of ice this morning. Then last night we got more snow on top of the slush on the roads---thus no school today. We will have to go out later to clear the sidewalks again---city rules plus we aren't that far from an elementary school so kids do walk to school around here. Others won't but we do!
I will be enjoying staying home---and hopefully get a few things done. Pictures were put back out yesterday so at least I got something done.

Terri, DD2 had her gall bladder out at age 10, DD1 had hers removed at 17 and DH was in his mid forties when he had his taken out. All three of those surgeries happened in a two year time period. All of them recovered well. Fatty foods were difficult for a year or so but they can all eat pizza without a problem now. I have heard that the emergency surgery happens when the pain is worse than childbirth and you don't want that ! Obviously, my vote is to get the surgery and recover so it is all a distant memory by next Christmas. Good luck with your decision and your rebuilding physical strength. emoticon

Cathy, Jayme was in the house when her parents were killed so she knew they were gone.
Yes, grandparents are entitled to spoil their grandchildren and it is really fun if there is a "special something" they like. It's a bonus if you can buy it at the dollar store! emoticon

Anne, when it rains, it pours! emoticon You have been a busy woman but isn't that always the case? it was very nice of you to house Rich and his wife for nearly a week, especially with all the illness going around.

Dianne, I was fortunate enough to attend Disney World on another person's dime but the timing wasn't great for us. We were grateful but just never would have chosen Christmas as a time to go. We also had multiple health issues at the time that made it complicated. We do have a very special memory of Christmas Day and that was seeing Gary Sinise read the Christmas story with an absolutely beautiful chorus and orchestra accompanying him. Fake snow fell at the end and that was perfect for those of us from the northern part of the country who need snow for Christmas. Carolyn had sprained her ankle and foot right before the trip and had gall bladder surgery right after so that's a holiday I won't forget. emoticon to DD1 for running and finishing that marathon only a week after diagnosis of the flu, that's impressive! It's impressive even without a flu diagnosis but even more with one. How was your character lunch? We loved our character breakfast but we had multiple small children in our party so that made it really fun. We couldn't get into the Magic Kingdom on Christmas Day because it was at capacity so I know what you mean about crowds. Have a safe trip home. emoticon

We have not been hit with the blizzard emoticon that much of the Midwest is getting but we have been getting freezing rain on and off. We went grocery shopping ,came home and stayed put yesterday. We made a new recipe called Tangy meatballs and they were pretty good. emoticon DH is planning to make meatball sandwiches for lunch and DD2 and I will have noodles and meatballs for our lunches this week. Today I made oat pancakes for brunch, went to Mass with DH and brought our Little Brother home with us. After brunch we played Uno, DH took JB bowling and I stayed home because DD1 magically appeared! emoticon She had not been able to find a coffee shop that's open on Sunday where she lives now and that saddens her. She tried one here but it was crowded so I made her some hot chocolate and she worked at our kitchen table. The guys came back so JB and I made mint chocolate chip cookies before a rousing game of hide and seek. DH took JB home and DD1 left so this has been my first crack at the computer all day. I am also in the midst of laundering and replacing all the sheets so that's what I am going to do now. Here's hoping everyone had a great weekend. emoticon

Nice to hear from you, Anne. That was a great catch-up post! Thanks for the feedback on your sister's experience. That really does help me to think things through.

Probably a good idea not to drive in the snow if you don't have to, Cathy.

The kids found and bought a Ford Excursion yesterday. They had to drive all the way to Sacramento for it and my mom helped them pay for it. They'll give her the check they get from the insurance when it settles, and then make payments to her on the balance. It's a big rig and doesn't drive as nicely as her Suburban did, but this will pull their stock trailer to the auction whereas her 'Burb wouldn't.

I haven't been doing much of anything physical since we got back to the log house. First, I was busy sewing and getting ready for Thanksgiving and later, I was just sick. Now my muscles are so weak I'm walking like an old woman. Steve and I decided to start walking every day and we are both feeling it. I can't take ibuprofen anymore, so used an analgesic rub on my knees last night and then a hot ice pack for a while. It's helped and we'll go again and just take things slow until we can regain some muscle strength. We don't have any level ground here, so it's all hills. I have missed walking on the backroad here. Its quiet, wooded and not often traveled, so you rarely see a vehicle. I'm looking forward to the time that I can do more than concentrate on putting one foot in front of the other.

Hi everyone!
I've read back til the 8th or so.
Dianne, glad the flu was short-lived for DD1 & SIL. Booo about the traffic in NJ! It's like that in MA, too! I try to get J to head to the airport as early as possible since all routes there are high traffic routes! He likes to think in the "average traffic time" mode...I like to think in the "what if there's an accident to get around" mode. Sounds like a fun time is being had. Yes, Disney (and Orlando area) is expensive times 10...someone else's credit card paying would be awesome!

Betsy, hope your winter temps stay "warm" for you! Booo to oversleeping due to NPR, lol! Glad they found that young girl. She is going to need a lot of help! Yes, daycare providers are teachers and you are an awesome one! Hope DH can go to the Chocolate Decadence Date Night!

Cathy, booo to the teacher having endometriosis! Bad enough to have female cramps, but that one from knowing others that have had it really is tough to cope with especially since people aren't always very sympathetic! Sounds like the school needs a new heating system! Hope they can get it to be regulated so that everyone doesn't need to wear coats! I have Christmas breaking down at the rectory this week, but think only need to pack away my Advent wreath and put my Nativity set into my curio for permanent display. Hope you find something good and maybe fun to do indoors today. Stay safe!

Terri, sorry to hear that you have gallstones, but at least they could figure out what the problem is. My sister had them and refused to have surgery for the longest time. She ended up having the surgery and said she wished she had done it sooner. As far as I'm aware she hasn't had any issues since (surgery was about 20+ years ago). Yay to finishing those UFO's! Very glad to read that your family was okay in that accident. Sounds like they need a Chevy Suburban or Ford Expedition type vehicle! Prayers that they can find one quickly and that it doesn't break their bank (though that may require a miracle on top of the prayers)! Good luck at the doctor's tomorrow!

It has been so crazy. I thought once the holidays came and went life would slow down for a bit...but noooooo! We did have a nice New Year's Eve with Rich and his wife and my friend Sue and her husband...think I mentioned that before. However, Rich had the stomach bug Thursday night (1/3) into Friday (1/4). Then the friend's house that they are living at lost the heat...the furnace died. So Rich and his wife came and stayed with us Saturday (1/5) til Friday (1/11). Rich's wife got the bug Saturday night (1/5) into Sunday (1/6). Rich had his 2nd set of chemo on Monday and Tuesday (1/7 & 1/8). I got sick while making dinner for the Fathers on Tuesday and was out sick on Wednesday...though I actually only got sick the one time, but had a dehydration headache on Wednesday morning. The rest of the week I spent trying to catch up from missing Wednesday. Thursday we started our Following Christ program. Today I'm help host a dedication plaque for one of the icons of our church that passed away last year. My sister that moved to GA in August last year and then SC earlier this month is home for a visit...flew in Friday and is leaving Wednesday. She and her husband have a number of appointments, so I am trying to visit with her for lunch tomorrow...if possible! I think I am going to ask for a day off this week to try to catch up with so many things that have fallen behind by having company here!

Enough of this dissertation, lol! Yup, J just came into the kitchen!

Things are going to look up...I'm going to get more "me" time...right????!!!!

Have a great Sunday!

Anne

Dianne, I agree--don't know how people go every year with whole families. LOL that it would be nice on someone else's credit card. Sounds like you are having fun and hope it's not too crowded wherever you go today. I am looking forward to your pictures.
Terri, smart to do the research and write down the questions---just don't forget them when you go---LOL
All the Christmas bins are down in the basement and I vacuumed both rooms so I had a productive day.
We have snow on the ground here--and I promise not to send it to Florida--heehee--my church is already closed and I do not think dh should go if his is open--by the time he made a path and cleared off his truck, he will be exhausted to start with.
Might tackle something in the spare room or might not---LOL--but figure I need to find something to do today.

I agree about the $$ Dianne. It's hard to dole it out in those amounts and I don't know how people manage who have season passes and go all the time. Whew! There is a lot to see and enjoy, though.

I'm still doing research on the diet but mostly to compose a list of things to talk to the doctor about. I want to make sure I remember to ask any questions I have because it's hard to get them answered after the appointment.

Hi!! Terri, do what you must but yes, bummer if you need surgery. But we do what we must and you can pity party, bi#$5 or moan here. No judgement zone!!

Betsy, hope you survived.

Cathy, keep the snow there!!

Hubby and DD1 did fine yesterday. We enjoyed Magic Kingdom but it got so crowded. We cooked here and went to bed early for the girls. They are on track to finish by 9:45. Today is a character lunch so that will be fun. We won't get much time in Hollywood Studios but DD1 really did a great job of making Fast pass reservations so I won't complain. This is likely my last Disney visit. Boy, is it $$$$!! Need someone else's credit card!!! Then it might be fun! LOL

So I will catch up with you next week and share pictures.

Betsy, oh, my, doesn't sound like a fun time there. Hope the speech therapist made it a bit better. Yes, I was thrilled to hear that news also--so thankful that she is alive but wondering if she knows her parents are gone---guess she knows it now. I cannot imagine how much trauma she went thru and what she will face trying to get over both tragedies. The kids complained a bit about the room this week but they take it better than us adults---LOL Hope you get to make that soup today.
Dianne, sounds like you are having fun and bet you are tired---you are going to need a vacation from your vacation when you get home---LOL
Terri, yikes, but you definitely do not want another flare up or an emergency surgery if you have one. Yes, you do not want your liver permanently damaged---so if they say surgery, don't argue. I would say that no way could you go back to the canyon and stay by yourself if this issue is not taken care of. If you had a flare up and you were alone, that would be horrible. I did laugh about the thought of going vegan---but I would agree with you---LOL
Yesterday was an easy day--like a normal Friday. Will know more about whether or when surgery for teacher is after her doctor visit on Wednesday.
The teacher told me that they had llama stuff at Dollar General for Valentine's Day---so we stopped by there when we were out yesterday and got Reagann more llama stuff----heehee--isn't that what Grandparents are for?
Packed up a bit of odds and ends yesterday and got the other bins organized for taking the village apart today. Once I get moving on that it really won't take that much work.
Snow is definitely in the forecast ---to start tonight and go into tomorrow---I will be staying home tomorrow. Saying 3 to 6--it is definitely cold enough to stay snow.

Dianne, I'm glad you're all having a good time and that the sickness hasn't kept you from doing the races.

I got a call from the doctor this afternoon to go over my ultrasound report. She apparently didn't know I have an appt. with the other doctor on Monday, but that's okay. She said I definitely have gallstones--some big ones--and will need surgery unless I'm willing to gamble with another attack. She said that they don't dissolve but can move if they're small. She also said that my liver is enlarged and that may be from stones blocking ducts, preventing it from functioning properly. Yuck! Since I'm feeling so much better, she wanted me to come in for another blood draw to compare with the last one (last week). The other doctor will have the results when I go to see her on Monday. I don't want surgery, but I don't want my liver to fail either. And the diet for this is practically vegan.
I told Steve, "I already gave up coffee! Why not just shoot me now" emoticon emoticon emoticon

But I'll have my pity party and then we'll roll up our sleeves and do what we need to do. Probably not without complaint, though.

Hi. Hubby and Dd1 raced today then we went to the Magic Kingdom. It was fun but got really crowded by 4:00. We did Space Mtn, BuzzLightyear, Jungle Cruise, Tiki House, 7 Dwarves Mine Train. Fun. Tonight did Christmas and made supper here. Now to bed for the half marathoners.

Betsy, saw that Jayme was found alive. Praise God!!! I hoped she would be found some day but didn't expect alive.

I will share photos after we get back from FL. Still pretty cool down here. Tomorrow should be 70s for first time.

My ultrasound went well yesterday and I'm glad it's done. The results are in and I have an appt for Monday to go over them with my doctor, so we'll see what the reports say and find out what comes next (if anything).

PTL for the girl's return, Betsy! I've been reading the news updates this morning.
