This is the first time I have sat down in about ten hours, I have not read the posts.
Happy Halloween! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

DH no longer needs to wear glasses for distance! emoticon
DH did two errands with me and started feeling pain. emoticon
Stopped at Starbucks for cider and tea. emoticon
Went home for medication for Dh and to enjoy our beverages, mine was incorrect. emoticon
Left DH at home to do multiple errands and checked in frequently, all was well. emoticon
Came home to find a tree ON our HOUSE emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
DH was outside in a T shirt near the downed tree and the people who made it fall. emoticon
It IS Halloween so I became a emoticon and forced him to go inside.
We saw lots of former day care children trick or treating. emoticon
They loved the surprises I had for them. emoticon
We have a emoticon in the oven and it is almost ready. emoticon
Happy Halloween!

Additional note: It has been in the twenties and thirties here. DH has gone from not needing his inhaler to three times ( so far ) today. That is why I was VERY unhappy to find him outside in a T shirt.

I’ll try to recap what I lost yesterday and am typing into a document this time, which is what I guess I should be doing all the time anyway. I just don’t have time to go through all of that and then lose my post.

Thanks for the congrats on our newest great-grand. She will have a name, but not until she’s 10 days old according to a supposed tribal tradition. Her father is Native American and I say “supposed” tradition because Mary’s dh is also Native and he says he’s never heard of it and it isn’t practiced in their tribe. I will respect their wishes and wait. Meanwhile, Anna and babe are doing fine. Anna is Jenny’s DD3 and her cousin, Ali, is the one who makes the stuffed animals; however, Anna is the one who was my sewing partner when she was little and actually helped me complete my pjs a few years ago. She lost interest in sewing when she discovered boys, but I suspect that she will pick it up again now that she’s a mother.

Betsy, I hope Megan is mature enough and has enough backbone to do what’s right for her nephew. It seems that the deck is stacked against little Rekkon, but I do understand them wanting to keep him if they can—regardless of the financial aid that he may provide the household. If a similar situation happened in my family, there would be at least half a dozen people stepping up to keep the babe in the family. In fact, I know a local family who took guardianship and/or adopted several of their sister’s children. She was involved with drugs and had children with at least 3 different men—8 in all. One baby died of SIDS several years ago, some of them went with their paternal grandparents and the 3 youngest were adopted by her sisters. The mother was much-loved, but addicted and couldn’t be trusted with the little ones. She was eventually killed in an accident, but her children had already been placed so they weren’t affected (except for the older ones). The benefit to the kids was that they stayed in this community and have grown up knowing their siblings, aunts, and grandparents. They know that their mother loved them but was weak. Drugs and alcohol abuse are such an evil thing. I loved the mental picture of J sleeping on your shoulder while you posted from your phone. I knew that you were getting some well-deserved rest just by guarding his sleep.

We are not experiencing any smoke from the fires up here. They are too far away and the weather currents move them away from us. Some people are upset with PG&E and say that they should have been spending their money on upgrading their equipment, etc. But there are always armchair quarterbacks in these situations and I’m not going to be one of them. I know that there are many, many factors involved and plenty of blame to go around. I don’t think there’s a single or simple fix to the problems in our state.

Cathy, I’m glad your meeting with the Principal went well and hope that he takes your concerns seriously for the sake of the children. Her behavior is simply unprofessional and needs to be addressed. She might be a fine teacher if someone holds her accountable. She’s had enough subs and others around to observe and confirm what you’ve said, so maybe she’ll be put on notice and will shape up. Have fun on your trip and drive carefully. Will you be doing most of the driving?

I won’t have any goblin visitors tonight as we are too far out. Jenny’s church is doing a huge Kids’ Karnaval at the fairgrounds, as they do every year. The have a huge amount of volunteers, donations and turnout, as it’s open to the whole community. They have voluntary security too and use 3 different buildings. One is for the littlest kids and they serve free hotdogs and beverages in that one. Another building has a huge cake walk and the third building has games for the older kids, craft tables, face painting and other fun stuff.

Lindie that tar smell would give me a headache. I hope they’re done with it soon and get things cleaned up and gone. I agree with you about your daughter’s conversation with your sis. She has no business getting upset with her for not giving out YOUR personal information! If you want your kids to know, you’ll send out a newsletter or something—or, as you said, they can pick up the phone and give their mom a call. That reminds me that I need to call MY mom because I haven’t talked to her in at least 2 weeks! Every time I think about it, it’s not the right time for one of us. Maybe I can keep my brain functioning long enough to call her this evening after she gets home from work. She volunteers at the Discovery Shop (American Cancer Society thrift store) on Thursday and Friday until 5 pm.

Time to go. I’m picking up a few grands at the bus stop this afternoon as their parents are at the dentist today.

Good morning Friends, well the tar makers are still here, today another truck with hydrolic lift brought some big steel thing to put on the roof and it seems to be moved along the roof as the truck has been outside my bedroom window for over an hour now and a guy is at controls, not idea what is going on but the tar machine is up and running - I can hear it humming when I go into the kitchen LOL Gene and I had a discussion last night as he brought home dinner but I had stuff I had taken out of the freezer that had to be eaten- he again complained about no energy on 2 eggs for breakfast, then he buys food but does not eat it. I told him his body needs more then 2 eggs and there is no reason he can't eat his bought food on the train or in the lunch room at the office. I asked him, what time do you get to work - answer 6:30 - what time do you start work - answer 7:00 - so I asked him, why are you not eating in that 1/2 hour time space - you only need 15 minutes to eat ( I know the answer, same reason as at home, he gets distracted by things ) so this morning he sent me a text message saying he took my advise and ate on the train ! I sent him a emoticon back to him. Well I took a picture of the tar machine, but it turned out to be a video !! so no posting - oh well ! Today I have physio for 1 hour to show me more exercises and get advise about the recombend bike ( did I tell you I dont' like this one ? ) lol !

Terri good to hear you, sorry you lost your post, I am sure you answered all our questions - another time when you have time and electricity - I see where the electricity company is offering a small credit on folks bills .....

Anne, yes it did warm up but a fall warm up, not summer, it was nice to walk and not be all sweaty when I got home ! The tar smell is not so bad in my room, OR I am used to it by now, I leave my bedroom window open - Oh that steel thing is back on the truck ! lol soon it will be belted and the truck gone !

Dianne, sorry the muscles are sore, would a massage help ? Enjoy your afternoon, and coffee - will you get into a book ? Or movie ?

Betsy, good news to hear the surgery went well - now about that itching - that must be really bothersome, I wondered about that as I would be tempted to rub without thinking ! And in my sleep too ! Something to discuss with the specialist too ! Hope your patient continues to progress and follows direction ! Hope you are not too stressed out as caregiver !

Cathy, I saw a news headline that there are strikes from teachers demading more pay or some other things, I did not read the whole article - like all professions, people want more money when they have more work - however, do they really think where that is going to come from ?Taxes ? Sadly, if the money is not there it is not there, a definete catch 22 situation. Dalton not potty trained ????? Do you have to take him potty, or does another person do that ? Does he wear an adult diapher all day so he can pea and poo at leasure ? That would NOT be fun at all for you or anyone else ! Sad his mom could not be bothered to train him. Oh Florida, watch out for the orange lady she be on the move to you !!! Are you getting really excited now ?

My sister and I had a conversation the other day, did I tell you yet ? She was saying my daughter asked her about a medical issue I have and when my sister said she knew, my daughter spazzed out on her for not telling her - here's the thing though - she has not picked up a phone to ask ME about it .... my sister told her to relax and chill that she and I are getting older and these things will happen and she should be prepared for it - sigh .... kids eh ? lol

Morning! Happy Halloween. We have rain so I expect a very low turn-out tonight--but we'll see. I have snack packs of chips--stuff I don't like! And yes, congrats to the Nationals! I expect most of Washington will agree on something this week! (Glad I am not there.)

I am still sore from the weight lifting I did on Tuesday. Did a water class yesterday and step aerobics here at home today. I can still feel all these sore muscles! Going to meet a friend for lunch and that is about it today. I am making a beef stew for supper.

Terri--good to know you are around!

Betsy--glad things went well. Hubby is almost down to one set of drops a day--that will be nice. He has set his phone to remind him. Get a photo with the eye shield to show your 3 kids.

Cathy--glad you are excited! Hopefully it won't seem so hot down there--I did see that Florida seems to have forgotten it is fall. Maybe WI and FL could compromise?

Lindie--sorry about the icky smells and mess but it will be nice to know the roof shouldn't leak! Hope Amigo feels enough in control--being able to go into different rooms.

Anne--you are getting the rain, too, right? I know we needed it but I am getting tired of it. Not supposed to rain tomorrow and we just work 4.5 hours a day in November so car-pooling. Four more times.....

Better go shower and get some coffee! I need to get my recycled craft supplies out of the basement--and hubby is to do 2 shelves.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! emoticon

My computer is acting wonky! That "delightful beachball" keeps appearing. Can't figure out what is running on the computer that is causing that.

Cathy, how sad that there aren't enough teachers that those that do not teach well get to keep their jobs. I understand what you mean about kids today. It is scary! You must be getting very excited about getting away soon! Hope you can find the things you need in one store!

Betsy, glad DH did well and slept...better for the healing process. Hope he won't have to continue the every 2 hours of drops soon! Hope you get some rest!

Terri, I am so sorry that you lost your post! Glad to hear from you though! Hope you get to keep your electricity!

Lindie, did it warm up? Booo to that tar smell! Hope they finished the job yesterday so that it will dissipate soon!

Going to post so that I don't lose it like Terri!

Happy Halloween!

Anne

Betsy, glad the surgery went fine and tell him to leave his eye alone----LOL---I didn't have to have drops every 2 hours---hopefully not all night? Or you will be exhausted! Did you also take off to take and care for him? Dh does the same thing, puts in a DVD and then goes to sleep. Usually I am okay with that but I really am tired of The Martian as I don't want to see it so often and especially when he goes to sleep on it.
Anne, Hope you got everything done and got to relax. Yes, I did feel better after it was over and we seemed fine yesterday. I think he is mainly going to talk to her about her attendance. But she won't be fired----we have lost 2 teachers already that have quit on us and they are having trouble finding anyone to take those classes. And we are not the only school to have this happen---have heard of others quitting already this year. Kids are not like when we grew up or even like when my boys were in school.
Dianne, so sorry your friend passed but also nice that they want you there in your colonial garb in honor of something she loved to be a part of. Can you imagine how crazy DC will be this Saturday with the parade for the Nationals winning the World Series?
Terri, bummer that you lost your post. Glad to know you are still okay. Those fires look so scary on TV. Sure hope the Reagan Library is not destroyed.
Lindie, yes, that tar smell can be very bad. HOpe Gene can sleep. Good thing he is not needing to sleep during the day like he used to. Hope they clean up all their mess.
Talked to someone who knew Dalton in elementary school---just what we thought---he has been babied and coached every minute----yesterday he had a pumpkin to color in different colors. All the other kids did 2 of them plus 2 other worksheets---yes, the teacher had work for them---and then they got free time. He never got that one picture done. He should have needed no supervision on that assignment. Now his mom wants an IEP meeting ---he isn't really due one until February but if they request, we have to do one. That person said the reason he isn't potty trained is that Mom didn't want to be bothered to train him----I am not surprised on that comment.
I have printed off things I need to take. I have brought out the small travel size things for Dh to go thru to see if he needs anything that I might have not thought of. HOpe to go shopping for anything like that when I get home from work today. He will be bringing up the luggage today but I probably wont' pack until tomorrow. But I do have the tops I want to take all together in the closet and the capris are in one drawer together. Need to do a load of dark laundry tonight as a couple of items I want to take are dirty. Getting closer and closer---LOL

So sorry, Terri, I hate it when that happens!

Lindie, DD2 and I visited the baby and his new caregivers for less than an hour. I put my jacket on our front porch as soon as we got home and left it there overnight, it still reeked of smoke this morning. Yes, we will visit and give things to the baby from time to time. I am picking up some swaddles for him that I found on a resale site tomorrow. The lady learned the situation so she’s giving them to me!

We are supposed to get snow again tonight, yuck! DH has his recheck appointment at 7:50 AM so hopefully the roads will be good. DH has a successful surgery and has been enduring the drops every two hours very well. The patch is annoying and he wants to scratch his eye but the sleeps a lot so that helps. He is actually sleeping on my shoulder as I type on my phone. Before he fell asleep, he put on a DVD he wanted to watch, LOL. I am not moving until it is time for his 10:30 PM drops because I do not want to wake him.

Hope all is well with everyone. emoticon

Good morning friends, its very cold this morning and I am staying in till the sun heats things up then I will head out. The filming was done on a street over at RainCity Boxing building and back alley to it, but the food trucks and prop trucks were parked on the side street along the park. The food truck was eventually moved back, I am sure something was said about that - the trucks are tall enough to block any stop sign present - all resolved. The notice said 3 days of filming but I did not see any of that at other times. I only saw one old man in the tent set up for sitting and having coffee ... I did walk along the sidewalk inside the park and filmed what I saw along the walk - never saw any movie stars either lol The production company was FILMGROUP:TV LTD so perhaps for a tv show ? lol

The roofers are still here, they are still removing old roofing debri into the big green bin and that scares the cat so he stays in my room - the stomping and that is not so bad - the tar machine is right at Gene's bedroom window and he smells the tar when he comes home and opens his bedroom door - I did see propane tanks too so not sure how the roofing is being done, I do see a long spout like apparatas that hovers over the roof itself so perhaps the tar goes from the machine to the roof that way ?Still lots of equipment on the group too but not as much. They do need clean up the back sidewalk, I went out that way yesterday to go to the bus stop and lots of roof debri there - will mention it to the manager to tend to.

Dianne, glad you are back safely from the DC trip, now DD1 can take stock and see what her preference for running is - dry and flat land, or hills and rain - I think she did amazing to do that in the rain with those hills. Hope your visit with Bob went ok.

Cathy, so glad you got to talk to the principal to talk about your concerns I bet you feel a bit of relief for that - and I hope that the teacher does not take it out on you if they have a dressing down by the principal for either, I am sure others have noticed especially no plans for when she is away ... I hope your students are ok too - but one observation might be, if you are stressed and not happy at work - those kids may pick up on it and that might be having an affect / effect on them too - they would be sensitive to that which might cause behavioural change.

Betsy, how sad a situation, sounds more like ownership of the child just because rather then what the child needs. I was a smoking Nana but never smoked around Charise - however, now I realise that it was not just smoking around her, it was the smell/odor on my clothes and such. It was a beautiful hospitality spirit that you showed taking items for the baby. Will you visit from time to time ? Hope the surgery is/was successful and J follows directions for healing !

Anne, I will relate a story about fire works that happened when I was a pre teen. My brother had some fireworks that were suppose to be duds and what ever he was doing to them, one of them exploded in his face and he had 3rd and 4th degree powder burns on his face - remarkably - NO scaring from that incident ! The older fireworks become, the more unstable they become, so if Dh insists on keeping the, ask him to use extreme caution handling them. Hope your day is going well.

Terri I see the power is on and off again, been keeping up with the news stories as best I can, people are complaining about being cold due to temp dropping and not being able to use their cpap machines, having the throw food away - some already baked, cooked etc - I know you are ok you have your food reserves and your camp stove - or your wood stove to keep you warm - how is the rest of the family doing, your mom, aunt, the other house, any news on that ?

It's almost 10 am and time for me to get busy, so have a good day everyone !

Morning! DD1 isn't used to running in the rain--from CA, after all--and the wet contributed to the blister. She knew she wasn't feeling 100% and her body just did not want to run as it could so she was just so disappointed. She also had lots more hills than she is used to AND was running after being away from home for 10 days. Her hubby wants her to do the next one locally--that should be easier on her.

Anne--I woke this AM really feeling sore so did go to the pool class--that helped a lot to stretch things out. I will go to the home today to see Bob. And no phone call to come in for another "squish" so the mammogram should be okay. Hope you feel more energy! I don't like fireworks at all either.

Betsy--prayers for you and DH! Yes, I am not surprised that he had everything written down for his sub. I know all will go well. Poor baby--your former Little is a wonderful person and yes, too bad they won't consider adoption. Would likely be better for the baby. How much snow did you get? My parents had less than an inch but did say it was pretty!

Cathy--good for you. I do hope the principal speaks to her (and keeps your name out of it) because she isn't really teaching. What does she expect to do if she has no days left already? Good grief! Glad you are getting ready to go--I want details!

Lindie--this sister works at the aquarium? I hope she doesn't lose her job--I know you like to visit Hope! Hugs to you for everything going on.

Terri--I hope you are able to read this! We are so dependent on electricity. We lost power last night--alarm went off at 2 AM because the phone line didn't have enough battery to keep the alarm happy till the generator kicked in--I was so disoriented I thought I was in a hotel. Not sure why we lost power but it came back quickly. Super Storm Sandy was 7 years ago--and there are still houses that are not fixed.

Mare--how are you doing?

I am hoping for a hard freeze--I need to dig the calla lilies but they are still green. It will be 70 and rainy tomorrow for Halloween. I expect to have the usual 8 kids or so. I do work on Friday--scheduled for a few more days but not sure if they have the $$ to pay us so will need to verify before I'll go up. Saturday is the memorial service for a friend from my old job--lost her battle with cancer in early October. I will go wearing my Colonial clothing at the family's request.

Cathy, I am so glad you finally talked with the principal. I hope they do not view this teacher as a "port in a storm" and not follow up on any of your discussion, especially using the TV to teach. Too funny about the leaves after the raking. J gets very annoyed by that, especially since the ones that drive him crazy are in the front and come from the neighbors trees, lol! I always forget to inform the credit card company, but haven't had an issue...though V did once. Glad Jeremiah got the concept over carrying...hope he retains it. Hope whatever is troubling Richi gets resolved before he acts out his anger and hurts someone.

Betsy, prayers for DH's surgery's ease and success! I'm sure he is quite nervous. Very sad about Rekkon's situation. Too bad his grandmother wouldn't smoke away from him. How old is your former Little? Better you having white stuff than me! Not looking forward to that at all! About those fireworks...I would love to just toss them because I do not like firing them here at the house...fear of fire takes the fun out of them. When I look at all the re-makes of movies, I shake my head. I had no desire to see Dr. Dolittle with Eddie Murphy...no one can take Rex Harrison's place, lol! I feel the same about some of the other re-makes, too. Glad you enjoyed Bishop Curry and were able to make it back in time for dessert. I agree...crawdads are not worth all the effort! Good luck with your physical therapy!

Dianne, good for you speaking up about the food and for having the bill deduction! Was the marathon area more difficult than what DD1 is accustomed too? Was she running when not well? You mentioned her throat being sore. Does she usually get blisters? I do not recall you mentioning that before. Glad she got to the airport in time! I am sure your muscles did hurt...seems like a while since you mentioned doing that kind of a workout! How was Bob? Hope yesterday's mammogram didn't hurt much and the results are "see you next year!"

Terri, glad you had power again and longer than you expected! I hope you do not have to have it out for 48 hours or more! I am sure Steve is concerned about you being alone without service, but also knows you can handle it. Bummer that the generator needs a service person! Hope that part comes soon so that your back up sewing machine can work if there is another blackout. How often has the electricity been shut down with the fires happening? I do not remember hearing them cutting the electricity before, but I may not have either heard it being mentioned or forgot (something I seem to be doing a lot of lately).

Lindie, I am also curious about what they are filming across the street from your place. I hope there weren't any accidents due to that food truck blocking the stop sign...what a dumb place for them to park! Hope you had a good Monday and Tuesday! Glad your sister gave you the money for the Uber. Is she going to journal what's going on at work? Why does she think she won't have her job much longer?

I am soooo tired! I wonder if I am fighting a cold or something...I have been coughing and sneezing a bit more than usual. I'm also achy this morning. There's part of me that wants to be sick so I can go back to bed, but I really don't want to be sick because I hate being sick, lol! Yesterday I spent most of the day baking or cooking dinner at the rectory. Today I have a lot of cleaning to do and 2 beds to strip, wash, and remake...I don't want to have to fold sheets today, lol! I need to get moving or I will be running quite late for the garage and I hate that!

Have a good day!

Betsy, I have worked with those kind of teachers and they are so easy to work with because they have it all set out for you. I loved to sub for that kind, too, back when I subbed as they also had good classroom control, even with the most difficult kids. Thankfully I don't have to worry about behavior issues although Richi has been a real bear lately, especially when he arrives---I think something is going on at home because he didn't use to be that way.. He has a lot of anger issues thru out the day, too--so I don't think it is sleep issues. I hope your dh is not too stressed this morning---his bp will be elevated because he is worried, but they expect that. It will go fine. That is sad about that baby---betting it develops asthma from that person smoking around him---that is really sad. Of course they won't give him up, they would lose the government money for him. We see that all the time here.
Dianne, she is just lucky she finished with that weather and all the other issues. Glad they took off the cost of the pizzas from the bill. Nice that you got the sunscreen for your skiing trip. Hope you aren't too sore from that workout.
I had my meeting with the principal yesterday. I told him my concerns. She has a meeting with him on Thursday about her attendance issues----hope it sinks in---she has used up half her sick days already plus all the training stuff---plus coming in late so often has been noticed. She was late again yesterday. I expressed my concern about no work to support the use of the TV to teach and her not checking how the kids did when she was gone. We are getting along better. I know my limits with her and try not to step on her toes. She is a nice person, just don't think she has her act together. Glad that is over.
Rolled money, called credit card companies to let them know of travel plans, and straightened up my desk. That was on my list to do. Dh and our friend cleaned up a bunch of leaves yesterday----it did look better but I did tease him that he missed some---more had come down since they spent an hour and a half on it. Should be quite a lot more when we get home from Disney.
Have a good Wednesday.

Dianne, it is merely 12 hours before we report for the surgery and the patient isn't even home from work yet! Sound familiar? I swear his class could teach itself the way he prepares for a sub! Yes, Cathy, there are still dedicated teachers out there. Yes, that packer game was worth a little lost sleep. Your trip was quite the whirlwind. I understand about those goal oriented daughters because my firstborn is one of them. She gets super excited if I allow her to cross things off MY to do list! Thanks for the well wishes for the surgery. I am guessing he'll want to go to early Mass so I may not get here until much later tomorrow.

DD2 and I went to meet Rekkon tonight. He is two months old, weighs eight pounds and is adorable. He was born to the biological older sister of our former Little Sister from the "Bigs" program. Our Little now has temporary custody because the mother won't leave her abusive boyfriend, the whole thing is a mess. Megan ( our former Little) lives with her disabled mother and works part time at McDonalds. I asked her if she thought her mother could handle Rekkon on her own and she said she hoped so because if she couldn't she didn't know. I asked if they considered adoption and they won't. DD2 is in the shower now and I am next because Rekkon's grandma chain smokes. They wonder why he's fussy? The child probably can't breathe and he misses his Mama. I brought them some baby wipes and a sheep that has the sound of a heartbeat so hopefully that will help. I worry about that boy, what a mess! All I can do is pray and be supportive, so I will.

Terri—congratulations! And I hope the power doesn’t have to be turned off but who can really blame the power company—they don’t want the fires! Glad Steve has the chance to work but I hope it stops being 6 days a week. DD1 got home and they have power—being “in town” the grid is set up that they don’t have to worry there.

Betsy—I stayed up to see the whole game for a change! It was a good one! Good luck to DH with his eye surgery. Hubby can stop wearing the eye shield on Thursday—it will be 3 weeks. He has no issues at all—took the lens out of the glasses for the that eye so all looks normal and he can see better. He’ll get a new lens when he gets his exam.

Lindie—did Amigo seem bothered by the fireworks? We have never had a cat upset—just the dogs.

Cathy—glad you are getting to do some teaching one-on-one. I used coins to teach carrying—pennies and dimes worked well and my kids “got it” when we used those. I do wish I was going back to Disney—I’d love to NOT be worried about the running and just enjoy it! Hope it isn’t too hot.

Anne—does sound like you had a lovely day. We had the rain in DC—and then it got hot and steamy.

Our trip—the drive down was not great—lots of traffic tie-ups but we arrived by 12:30 and visited, went to the “expo” to get DD1’s race bib and see what there was to see. I did get some SPF 50 sun screen in little tubes for skiing. That place was mobbed—and was 40 minutes away—people took Uber to get there cause parking was $$. We went out to dinner—nice place, had been there before—but very SLOW—we had 6:30 reservations, ordered pizzas and sub and spaghetti for DD1 and didn’t get food till 7:30! And the pizzas were both barely warm. DD1’s stuff was hot—no one elses. So I did complain and they knocked the pizzas off the bill. (I wasn’t even paying!) We stayed overnight with a friend of my sister-in-law—took her a nice bottle of wine. We drove past the White House—he may have been at the baseball game (the city was nuts—the marathon, the World Series game plus just the usual). In the AM, we took the metro—in the rain—to meet SIL for breakfast. (I do like mimosas in the AM!) My son-in-law had gone out to track DD1—she knew by mile 4 that this was going to be really hard—she had a sore throat, had a blister, her heart rate was too high and it was pouring rain. He caught up with her a time or two—we went to the finish area for a 4 hour, 45 minute finish and she was no way close. She did finish in 6 hours, 9 minutes and was SO disappointed. I kept telling her she finished and that is a WIN but she didn’t hit her goal and my DD is VERY goal oriented. We got back to the house by 3 and they had to leave for the airport by 4. We got moving by 4:30 and they were there by 5:10 and made it ok. DD1 really wanted/needed a shower. SIL’s clothes were damp so they needed a dryer and DD1’s stuff got washed and packed in plastic bags to go home. They wouldn’t smell of sweat! We watched the football game and just vegged the rest of the evening. Monday we just left at 10 and drove home. I did get to the home to sing and visit Bob.

I got back to the Y today—did the body pump class. The room was rearranged—pretty nice—and some of the equipment was new. I can still feel the workout! Haven’t done that in a long time and the muscles were not real pleased! Mammogram today and trying to get work done around here.

Cathy, hurray for a good sub! It is sad that you think the teacher may not "let you" continue to teach Jeremiah, especially if he is making progress. Hurray for a good sub, they are hard to find! Hurray for DH getting through his list with no complaints. Our roads are clear but the grass is covered with a fresh blanket of white, if I could I would send some of that cold to Orlando to balance out the temperature for you. Surgery number one for DH is tomorrow and the next two have to be scheduled, hopefully after he sees the retina specialist next week.

Terri, of course you have everything under control without power, good for you! Can you smell the smoke in the air or is it too far away? We are still waiting for the name of your new family addition. Is the new mother the one who makes the stuffed animals and sells them?

Exercise time! Have a terrific Tuesday. emoticon

Anne, that sounds like a lovely time at brunch. So nice when you can do that. And a nice ride around to see what is going on at J's work site and just to sightsee from the car. Lol to playing games on the tablet instead of watching the game. It is like the commentators have to think of something to say constantly and sometimes miss what is actually going on in the game with a big play---LOL
Lindie, what movie are they shooting? Hope the roofers were not too loud and the smell too bad. Flat roofs can smell so yucky if they are tarring it. I definitely think the newer way to do it is much better but they all involve heat and someone who doesn't know what they are doing can start a fire. Sounds like they need to check out the upper part of her colon which would be easier thru the mouth. Smoking is not going to help her when they scope her---and the lung damage she has done to herself won't help either. I know I can take a sick day for a procedure for me or for my dh---that person is just crazy. Hope she has another job lined up before she quits that one or gets fired. At least she is paying for her ride back home---that is a shocker.
Betsy, I do hope the long range is wrong but it is pretty warm down there this week, too---so thinking it's not far off. I keep checking it. Your Dh is getting the eye done at Thanksgiving? That is good as it gives him time to recover before going back to school.
Terri, since she has very little run off, she would have a hard time teaching without that TV---LOL---actually, I don't know if she could do that at all. I worked with Jeremiah yesterday on adding with carrying and after a couple of glitches by him, he got it and breezed thru the work I gave him. Hoping she lets me continue to push him in math Glad your power came back on for a while and hope it doesn't go off too long this next time.
Good day yesterday at school---good sub----he kept Dalton out of my hair and kept him focused---at least as much as he could. Went to the pool and worked on the back of my legs---still sore from pulling up flowers and weeds but the hips and knees are not hurting from that.
Dh did his list for yesterday with no complaints.---LOL

The power came on again late this afternoon, but is scheduled to be shut off again in the middle of the night. I drove down the road to where I could get a cell signal again and called DS1 at work to see if he could bring his generator over to my house to plug in my appliances for a couple of hours, but ended up not needing him after all. He called after work to check on me to be sure my power was on and will check again if it remains off again for more than 48 hrs.

I've got my wood cookstove, lots of firewood brought up to the house, candles for the night (flashlight too), and a variety of soups and chili beans in jars on the shelf. I don't have anywhere that I need to go, so will just sit tight and not burn any fuel unless I have to. I ran the dishwasher, did 2 loads of laundry, ground up some coffee beans, and ordered some things on Amazon.com while I had power. I opened up my grandmother's sewing machine to use it, but found that the belt was broken. Thanks to Amazon, I should have a new belt for my treadle sewing machine by Thursday. It might not help me during this shutdown, but I'll be ready for the next one! In the meantime, I'm getting more knitting done and have another bag of apples to work through if I feel like it.

Steve is feeling guilty that he's not here to help me, but I told him I'm not really doing anything that I need help with yet. He's bummed out that he couldn't get the generator running for me last weekend, but he did figure out what WASN'T wrong with it. Now we need to call a service person to work on it because it's probably something to do with the computer system.

I saw a FB post this evening that said that the local elementary schools will be open tomorrow--with or without electricity. It made me think of Cathy's teacher and I laughed at the thought of her not being able to use the TV or videos to do her job. She might actually have to figure out how to teach them something the old-fashioned way.

Anne, just save the fireworks for July 4, 2020 emoticon It sounds like you had a lovely day with your friend and the animals. Walking with the animals reminded me that I took our children to see the Dr. Doolittle movie when they were younger, expecting it to be the version I grew up with and it most certainly was not! After that I always screened movies VERY carefully before any of our children saw them.

Terri, emoticon on becoming a great grandmother again. What is her name? I love baby details. emoticon I sure hope everyone in your brood is safe from that horrific fire. I think of you and Dianne's daughter every time I see any news covering the blaze. As far as why the butcher wouldn't cut it, I think it was because it was from an outside source and tightly wrapped but I am not sure. You said you would rather be doing things at home than working 15 minutes for four hours of pay, I work at home so that isn't a problem for me, emoticon

Cathy, I got home from the revival just in time for the Boston cream pie for dessert so I didn't have to deal with the little crawdads, hurray! DH said they were more work than they were worth but he did enjoy the dinner. Was teaching still a bit better today? Hopefully the Florida weather forecast will change, long range ones are rarely correct.

Dianne, what a game that was last night! emoticon DH went to bed but I recorded it and showed him some amazing plays. Do you remember when you were new to SPark and you were so worried about the health of your daughters? I have to laugh every time I see they are running yet another marathon. YOU did that by setting such a positive example emoticon

Lindie, what are they filming across the street from you? Was your sister having an endoscopy? Some people get that and a colonoscopy at the same time, that would be awful! Every family member of mine that has sick day benefits is allowed to use them for a medical procedure for themselves or a family member. How much longer do you think the roofers will be working on your building? I tried to stay in the house when the roofers were replacing our roof but it was way too loud so I had to leave.

Bishop Curry was an amazing speaker and well worth the bus ride but some of the other things were a bit over the top for me. They had a Christain rock choir come out four times and we weren't even there for six hours! After a few songs, they all sounded alike. DD2 was in the front row and loved it but Mary and I were happy to sit in the middle of the crowd.

I was able to get a physical therapy appointment today and have several more scheduled over the next few weeks, all the way up to Thanksgiving! emoticon emoticon It still hurts but I can feel a difference after stretching, massage and ultrasound. emoticon
Two days of "rest" ( I will be caregiving but for DH) will be great for healing as well.

Have a great Monday or Tuesday...or both! emoticon

Lindie, hope Amigo continues to ignore the roofers! Bummer about that late set of firecrackers going off! They are illegal here, but around the 4th of July people have them and set them off. (We have some that a friend brought down from NH a number of years ago, but never finished setting them all off. I feel like dumping them in a bucket of water and then tossing them, but am not sure if that would actually make it safe to toss 'em. I can't ask J because he wants to set them off, lol! Sorry about your sister's supervisor being so difficult. She should definitely keep a journal. I was told to use a sick day for my medical procedure (colonoscopy), but I didn't have any left after the hip surgery...so I had to use a vacation day. I bet she can use sick time and that is an HR question.

My gf texted me to go to lunch at a nearby farm's cafe. We had nice steak and cheese subs and lots of fun walking around the animals (goats, sheep, and ponies), the plants and the pumpkins, as well as spending about 2 hours catching up with each other! Now I'm hoping my beef stew is all set so that I can get to work on time.

Have a great Monday night!

Good Afternoon, Friends, its a sunny day and the film crews are across the street from me - the food truck is blocking the stop sign for that side of the street - I took a picture incase there is an accident - folks who know this street KNOW there is a stop sign, but those who do not know, won't know and might not see it ... just waiting for a big bang but hope that does not happen.

Cathy thanks for explaining the pool - it would be nice if it was open on the weekend though - is there a public pool you could do the same thing s? Sometimes just walking in shallow helps ? Bet you are super excited, keep that excitement built up !! My niece is now talking of going to Disney too!

Anne I find that with chineese food too, some go right through and others do not bother me. When Gene gets food from Onlok I am ok but elsewhere not always. Most today advertise no msg but it might be in the sauce - packaged sauces - I never use the packaged sauces ... may your day go fast for you and the evening not so !

The roofers are back today, just heard a big thump - they must be placing supplies, this is a flat roof that is being done and the tar machine is parked by my kitchen window so that window and Amigo's is closed - he seems to be doing ok with the thumps, the tarp is back up lol

Last night the hooligans in the naberhood were shooting off some pretty loud crackers - I wish they were baned - this building is full of animals that might have been scared by it - that last big bang happened at 12:30 ! I was tempted to call it in , but just rolled over and tried to get back to sleep course then at 2 I was up to use the washroom ... sigh ... lol I am tired today.

My sister came by and she treated me to breakfast and then gave me money for the cab to take her home and meds if she needs any - also she is a bit concerned as they are going through her mouth, not the other end. She was told to call in sick for the procedure but her immediate supervisor said no and said she has to use a vacation day cause a procedure is not sick, sigh - she may not be working there much longer and she and the current supervisor are clashing and other issues going on. I just told her to keep a journal and if she feels she is being targeted, take it to HR then to human rights .... her procedure will be different then mine, I will stay with her still she feels stable to be on her own - hope I can get her up those steps ok, I also suggested she be prepared to be kept over night - one never knows. Also she is now smoking again due to stress at work ... she needs to learn to deal with stress without smoking, but I can't make her do that .... Well gotta go get the laundry,

Hi Dainne, Terri, Mare, Betsy !!!!!

Cathy, was Howard receptive to his chores list? You must be getting very excited! I do not think the Chinese food restaurants we frequent use a lot of MSG because I do not end up with tummy issues after eating there. This take out place we went to isn't one we usually buy from. I do not intend to hurry back, despite enjoying the food we did get.

Lindie, how did Amigo do with the fireworks going off? I love fireworks, but do feel bad for the animals! Why were there fireworks?

Terri, glad you were able to get a signal! Hope the electricity doesn't have to be off long!

We had a good time at brunch yesterday. It was about an hour drive, we took our time and slowly stuffed ourselves...actually I did not stuff myself. Afterwards we stopped in a gift shop, but nothing said "buy me." Since we were not too far from the Cape bridges we went for a ride down to the job site that Julian had been working on down in Yarmouth. It was a very nice complex...3 sets of apartment buildings and a clubhouse. Then we drove back to the Canal area on the Cape side. If it wasn't rainy and windy...very raw out...we would have gone for a walk. We got home around 4:00. I watched the football game with J for a while, but got tired of listening to the constant jibber-jabber of the announcers so I left the room. I must be honest, though, I really wasn't watching the TV most of the time I was in the living room...I was playing Scrabble and cards on my Kindle.
I slept most of the night, but do not feel like it! I sure hope Mr. K-Cup coffee does its thing! One of the parishioners and his company are going to break up and replace the sidewalk area in front of one of the doors, so I have to get to the church earlier than normal to put signs up inside the church to remind people to use a different exit. I would much rather go back to bed, lol!

Have a good day!

Anne

Terri, good way to charge the phone----but kind of surprised the phone works if all the power is off---wonder if they have a generator for the towers in your state. Usually when the power goes off in a large region, cell phones won't work as the towers are down, too----but maybe they have changed the towers now--that was quite a while since that happened in our area.
Lindie, the pool is closed on the weekend as it is at a therapy place. It would have been nice for the soreness---will go tonight and that will help. Good for Gene in saying No. How come the fireworks?
Did a bit of housework yesterday and told Dh I would be leaving him a couple of things to do each day in prep for our trip. This time next week I will be preparing for another planet----LOL

Good Evening Friends, late post for me, its been a good day, sun shining but now the fire works are going off around the neighbourhood and I hope they do not upset Amigo too much and he just ignores them. Gene had to start work at 3 am this morning and did a 12 hour - then they asked him to come in again at 3 am and he said NO not on a week day - he was also a bit grumpy when he got home but understandably.

Terri I know you can manage ok without electricty for a few days - which means no charging your phone for now unless you have a power pack - I have one and it will do 2 charges if need be - I have confidence in you that you will keep busy and use your grandmother's sewing machine ! Post when you can will be forward to hearing about things.

Cathy, hope you had a good relaxing day today, will help the stress levels for sure - did you go to the pool, or do you only do that mid week ?

Anne, Betsy, Dianne, Mare - hello and hope all is well.

The power went off at 10:30 and is still off. I drove down to pick up my mail and down the road a bit to get enough signal to check email on my phone. I need to get back because it's dark and I'll need to light some candles

Dianne, hope all went well with the run and that you didn't get too wet while there supporting her. She sure is spending a lot of money traveling to different runs---is she trying to qualify for the New York marathon? Glad the meeting went well with Bob's dd and that you saved her that trip so she could take care of family issues at home. Bob being so far from her really does cause problems. I know my mom being half an hour away in the hospital was not so bad but just the traveling back and forth got to be very tiring. But at least I could be there when needed.
Anne, all Chinese places use a lot of MSG--I would avoid that at all costs if that bothers you. Also the places that do fried chicken like KFC. Rotiserie chickens are probably the healthiest choice. How was the brunch?
Terri, what did they name her? Glad you got to meet her and hold her a bit. HOpe you didn't have to have the power off. Maybe the winds calmed down a bit. Sure hope no fires up your way. Yikes to Steve working until the end of the year---he is supposed to be retired---LOL Especially with some weeks only having the one day off---he needs the rest. Can he take any time off if he feels the need for a break?
Betsy, hope you enjoyed your day trip with your friend and got home to enjoy some time with your neighbors.
I got laundry done and then we went to Boscov's and I got the new RFID holder for my cards for the trip---my old one broke a few months ago. I also found a pair of brown pants for the winter. We went to Lowe's and got a new outside tree to replace one we had to get rid of from last Christmas. When we came home and had lunch, we headed outside to clean up the front gardens and pull up the the last flowers and weeds from those beds. We will start Christmas decorating shortly after coming back from Disney. Boy, am I sore from all the pulling and bending but at least I know why I am sore.
Going to be a rainy day so I will work on that list today for us.

Thank you, Anne. We've been to the coast to meet her and she's perfect. We've been getting updates on the power shutdown and they have pushed it back to 7 PM, then 8, then 9 and now it's nearly 10 and we still have lights. We've got the candles out and a flashlight handy, but we may luck out.

We have a baby girl! No details yet but Jenny says all is well. Steve has gone out to the ranch to get a trailer to pick up our wood for the front steps. The power is scheduled to be turned off at 5 pm so I have the day to get some things done requiring electricity. Steve looked at the generator to see if he could find the problem but no details yet--he thinks it's a part that he can order online and replace, but wanted to check another thing first. He says that the job he's working on is now expected to go through the end of the year, so not much is going to be accomplished on the projects here.

I remember when the meat department at grocery stores actually served the customer with things like slicing a slab of side pork into bacon (as thick as you wanted) and all kinds of things. Nowadays the "meat cutters" barely know how to cut meat because everything comes in cryo-packages. I've been shopping at the restaurant supply store and can buy those very same packages and then slice them into steaks or roasts when I get home and freeze them in smaller portions.

I wouldn't have wanted anyone extra at my deliveries in the hospital. My mom and Steve were with me the first time and it was only Steve the 2nd time--and he barely made it because we didn't know I was in labor. When I finally went to the hospital "to be checked" they found that I was dilated to about 4 cm. Steve's mom had dropped me at the entrance and went to pick up Steve at work on his lunch break to treat us to lunch after I found out if my "cramps" were anything we needed to be concerned about. He walked into the room and found me gowned and in bed and when the nurse came back in to hook up an IV, I had a contraction and she noticed that I was bearing down. She checked me again and started barking orders and throwing a gown at Steve and said things like, "Call the doctor...tell him STAT...going to delivery...DON'T PUSH!" Jenny was born 45 minutes after I walked into the hospital, on Steve's lunch break, while his mom was waiting in the lobby to take us to lunch. Too bad they all don't come like that, right?

I hope everyone is having a good weekend so far. I need to get off the computer and shut it down before the power goes off and get upstairs and do some sewing while I can. I'll save the chores I can do sans electricity for later when there's nothing else to do.

Dianne, glad you were able to talk with Bob's daughter alone. Yes, time to pull out those toddler techniques! Good luck! Enjoy DC!

Cathy, did the teacher have a meeting with the "higher ups?" Glad she did some work with the kids and left some work for you...it's long overdue! She is out a lot! Wow! They will keep her for the year, even if she continues to be absent and doesn't teach when she is there!! Glad you are going to have a meeting...that's long overdue, too! Hope DH doesn't get too mad about the upcoming chores list! Have fun shopping!

Terri, hope Anna's labor is not too intense nor long! Congrats to all! Not sure what's up with everyone going to the hospital while Mom's in labor these days. That really annoyed me with Victoria's labors...her dh's sister and mother were there, and of course her dh (at that time bf). Guess I'm old school...nurses, doctors, and coach...dh, bf, or alternative. J was with me for the 2 older ones, but my older sister was there when I had V. (J was hosting the Halloween party that my oldest was having...I didn't try to cancel it since he and the neighbor were willing to be there.) I'm sorry about how those fires are causing the power grids to be shut down...but it is a smart thing to do. I can not believe how strong the winds are! Prayers for all in the areas of the fires!

Betsy, was the bone the reason the butcher (a person who is supposed to be able to cut through those things!) that the ham didn't get cut at the store? I agree with Dianne these days...4 hours of pay for 15 minutes isn't what I would want...all that down time can be annoying, especially if you had things at home that you could be doing! Hope you enjoy the Episcopal Bishop's talk! Hopefully you will be back in plenty of time to enjoy visiting with the people across the street!

Lindie, did the winds continue or die down? Fr. B's text did make me feel good...I do miss him being at the rectory and am finding it boring there nowadays! Sorry the cost of meat is so expensive! There is a lot of greed in all sectors of society these days!

Mare...thinking of you!

Yesterday was a long day! J brought the Camry down to the station when I was done with work so it could have an oil change. He'll drop me off when I head to work (soon). We ended up getting Chinese food take out (not what I really wanted, but better than pizza or subs). I'm wondering if they used MSG because a few hours later and all night long my tummy was wonky! I did not get a good night's sleep! I skipped going to b-fast this morning and had an English muffin and coffee at home instead. Tummy feels better now...thank goodness! I think we will be going to the 4:00 Mass today. We have plans to go to brunch tomorrow morning about an hour from us...reservations are at 11:15, so I want to leave no later than 10:00. Time to get ready for work (boooo!)

Have a great Saturday!

Morning! Just a quick note as we are heading to DC very soon! I may not get here till Monday night.

I met with Bob's daughter last night to talk without him listening. She almost came up here for his time in the hospital--since I was around, she didn't have to so that saved her MUCH more than the gift card--and her family had appointments they had been waiting to get so I feel better about the $$ now. I will keep going but will try her "redirecting"--have to remember the toddler skills!

This weekend will be wet--but I won't melt and DD1 won't either. It just won't be "fun".

Take care, everyone! Betsy--stay warm--I know the temps have dropped!

Betsy, hope you enjoy the bus ride with your friend and the speaker at the end of the ride. Just wondering if the neighbor's get together might just be over when you get home. those things are more work than a lobster or crab and only has the meat of a small shrimp----We went to one of those and the person did one for Michael---that was all he got to eat as I thought it was way too much work for me to do---LOL---but he got enough crab to be okay with that---he was too young to be able to do the picking himself. He has always been my adventurous eater. Yuck to all the kids having colds---hope you don't get one from them. The actual surgery for the cataract is not bad at all---I knew that from my mom and grandmother---but boy, all the eye drops were a pain. I think it is the one afterwards that gave me pain---antibiotic kind of drop---but might have had to have that one before and after. But then I don't like drops. He is probably more worried because of all the other issues he has had. They do put a ton of drops in his eye before the surgery so he won't feel a thing but maybe a bit of pressure at times. I think it was like 35 drops in the eye in stages to prep for it. My vision was pretty clear a few hours after the patch came off. Hope this info helps.
Anne, I have felt confused all week because of taking off Wednesday and then having to leave on Thursday. Hope the new microwave and fan are not a problem to using your big pot. Of course you do a better job of packing---too funny! You should have taught him how to do it----something to think of with the ones there now so that they are prepared when they leave. I saw on the TV that the Pope is thinking of allowing the priests to marry---I do hope this means between a man and a woman and that the Catholic Church doesn't fall to the pressure of society to accept the other. I trust this pope but not sure if I would trust the future ones.
Dianne, she will have a wet run in DC---I know we are expecting the rain on Sunday but maybe start late Sat. night, so sure DC will start before us. I have been checking the long range forecast for Disney and not very happy about it but nothing I can do----hotter than normal and chances of rain all week---guess due to that tropical system in the gulf. You must have been so bored the other day at that park. Glad you are bringing your stuff back from there.
Lindie, hope it blows the snow away as well as the leaves. We still have a ton of leaves on our trees---even with all the wind the other week because most of them were still green and were able to hang on.
Terri, hope you hear back from that lady about the cider press. Have you checked out the price of a new one just for a comparison on what one would pay for a used one? Hope Steve can figure what is wrong with your generator so that you don't lose any food in your freezers.
I actually had a good day yesterday---but I sure was weak---probably a bit of dehydration from the day before. I finally got the storage closet organized and now there is actually room in there to put more if needed. And now I know where everything is and what we actually have in there for crafts, etc. Also the learning tools for the kids like play money is all together now. the calculators and clock faces are together, etc. The teacher actually did some stuff with the kids---would have liked to have seen more but it was an improvement. She won't be there Monday---her dd has an appointment at Children's hospital for her eyesight---and she actually left me work for the day--that is a big improvement. My appointment is now on Tuesday since she won't be there on Monday. I think she now realizes that she better improve or she won't have a job next year.
I think Betsy asked would I do a provisional thing---no way do I want to do the paperwork that is involved with special needs kids and would not understand the hoops to jump thru for all that nonsense. No wonder they have trouble getting people for those jobs. If you do a good job in the room with the kids, you don't have time to do the paperwork, so what gives but the kids as the teachers are forced to do more and more paperwork.
No real plans for today but do want to go do a bit of shopping and then Dh and I need to make a list of what needs to be done next week before we leave---and most of it should be stuff he can do while I am at work. He won't be happy about that but too bad---LOL
Happy Saturday!

Betsy, that story was such a hoot I had to send you some Applause. emoticon I was wondering, though, why DH didn't cut the roast into thirds before putting it into the freezer. Did it have a bone in it?

Lindie, since we're expecting another power outage this weekend, I had Sarah send her laundry to me when Adam came to town for work. So that's what I did yesterday, most of the day. I also watered my little garden, picked some tomatoes and did some sewing. I put together one of the fleece robes I cut out a while ago, shortened the rest of Steve's new jeans and moved some more belt loops. I think I now have 3 pairs of jeans to adjust the loops on. Maybe tomorrow, but we'll see.

GD Anna is in labor tonight, so I will be a great grandmother again in a few hours. She and her man don't want a crowd at the hospital, so Jenny is the only one there. We'll probably go over tomorrow afternoon after things are settled and they've gotten some rest and meet her.

Betsy, I'm glad Rachel is aware that she's the reason for the increases security deposit and even a caged pet can damage surrounding areas if their cage isn't kept clean and there's a smell. She just needs to be honest and not try to get away with anything. When our youngest moved out, I gave her a "Pantry Blessing" and filled her fridge and cupboards with some staples.

Dianne, of course Bob's dd knows you aren't doing it for the gifts, or $$ or affirmation. She just wanted to show you how much she appreciates how you're helping to make her dad's life better. You would happily do the same thing for someone doing that for your parents when you couldn't be there. It's a kind gesture on her part to acknowledge a kind gesture on your part. As much as you enjoy the historical teaching, it sort of "feels" like you are being lead away from that. It will be interesting to see what comes up to fill the gap if your group decides to step away.

I do enjoy the self-reliant lifestyle, but would not love having to do it all without modern conveniences and in long skirts and petticoats! I've washed clothes by hand in a tub and it's not fun after the first couple of loads, believe me! Steve is liking the idea of a cider press, so wants me to look around and see if I can find one. The lady I contacted about the other one hasn't gotten back to me, so I'll keep looking. Betsy, I can imagine that you were just sick about your friends dumping out all that cider! What did they do with THEIR press? It might be interested! LOL

It's late and time for this girl to get to bed. We're supposed to have our power shut off tomorrow afternoon, so it may be a while before I can get back here unless I'm able to use my phone when we go to town.

Lindie, wind without rain is tolerable but can be very cold. We had a hard frost last night and they are predicting snow emoticon for next week. I assure you the oven temperature was turned down and DD2 was home.

Anne and others, it wasn't the fact that the roast was frozen that made it difficult to cut, it was the long and thick bone that ran through a large portion of it. emoticon to Fr. B liking your suitcase packing skills better than his.

Dianne, four hours of pay for 15 minutes of work sounds glorious but I also see your point. What is it with your family members running marathons in lousy weather? emoticon
I am maintaining and that's good but I also want more. I am thinking I need a different challenge to "wake me up" but not sure what that is just yet. My back, hip and neck are all out of whack so that doesn't help either.
Oh well, in a few minutes I plan to wrap a hot rice sock around my neck and an ice pack around my hip/leg, I could create my own thunderstorm! emoticon

I may not get here tomorrow because I am leaving fairly early to catch a bus to Appleton to see the head Bishop of the Episcopal Church emoticon speak at a conference. Yes, I am Catholic but I was raised Episcopalian so I consider myself a good blend of both. A friend asked me to join her and it is all free so I thought it would be a good way to spend the day. We are due back at 6 PM but we all know how that goes. Also, our across the street neighbors invited us to a crawdad boil so even though that doesn't sound appealing to me at all, I will go and keep my husband company while he enjoys his. That starts at 3:30 so I will go directly from one event to the other and that's why I'm catching up as much as I can right now.

Thanks for all your comments on my novelette. I would have liked to edit it more but I had to get to bed and just wanted to finish it. Also, I have nothing against baseball caps but one would have looked very odd with what I was wearing.

Cathy, DH is getting nervous about his cataract surgery , anything you can share would be helpful. How was the meeting? Enjoy your weekend and stay well, I'm so sorry you were stricken so suddenly with illness and hope that is all behind you for a long time.

Good morning Friends, its a windy cool morning here, a cold front coming through, already had the rain but the sun is now shining. The front will take snow elsewhere ! All the leaves are being blown off the trees and we have a few that are now bare !!! Not much planned for today, not doing a roast as the cost of roasts are at lealst 40.00 for a decent sized one - even meat from Alberta is expensive right now, dont' ask why - its not like the cost of raising cattle went up - just down right greed !

Dianne, I think it is good that you stand down with Bob for a while - perhaps he will appreciate what you do for him better but no doubt its the dementia at work - maybe he would like no visitors at all - its hard when you are doing and saying things for his own good but then he throws it back at you, perhaps how he has been treating his peers in the home is a red flag - love does cover a multitude of sins, but one should not let one's self be abused. Just a thought. Enjoy that coffee - you reminded me I have one in the Kuerig I just fixed ! Glad to know your DD1 is not affected by those black outs.

Cathy, oh my to being sick, it might be stress - stress can mimic flue or food poisoning too - I suggest maybe you read some articles on spark for ways to avoid stress at work. You can not control other people's actions, you can only control how you interact with them. Remember your time away is coming and that should be long enough for others to see this babysitter teach in action - or lack of ... I hope today was a better day.

Anne, too funny about packing the suitcase and you being better at it, that must have put a smile on your face - I hope your day today is good too !

Betsy, we all loved the roast story, but at one point I thought, did they go out and leave the roast in the oven at 475 or what ever it was ? OH NO .. you would not do that, you have been through a house ruined by fire once before so it was that I was concerned about the roast still being in the oven LOL Hope today is a better day with the kiddies and the colds are getting better - 10 days eh ?

Terri, did you get your apple press ? Are you now making cider ? Hope your not too affected by the black outs and that the power issue at the ranch is getting resolved. Do you regret buying yet ?

Ok I will venture out in the wind - no rain. Hello to anyone I missed and have a great day !

Morning! I am heading for a walk soon--didn't get to the Y today. Before I forget, Thank You, Terri!! I am up to $115 on-line.

Teaching yesterday was laughable--we had 7 stations and one group of women--League of Women Voters. So I worked all of 15 minutes but will get paid for 4 hours. Carpooled with one of my friends--she leaves for FL next Wednesday. We have had some issues with leaving our things out up there so everything was always put away--now we even took the trunk home. I am not sure what I want to do next year--I'd like some respect for us and what we do but that is not forthcoming.

I did meet up with Bob's daughter and Bob yesterday. He accused us of double teaming him--I still don't know why unless I agreed with her that he needs to exercise more. So she saw him in all his glory of not quite getting what is going on. I am not going today--they need their own time. She did give me a card yesterday--and a gift card that wasn't necessary or expected. As hubby said, if I was doing it for $$, I was grossly underpaid! But it was a nice gesture for all the time when he was in the hospital.

Betsy--had to laugh at the roast story. Hope the cherubs are feeling better!

Cathy--oh, my to getting sick. Glad someone has noticed her attendance--you need to point out that you are left with NOTHING to teach. That is a fact. You have done much more with those kids than she has.

Anne--I do hope you get some relaxing time! Too funny about Fr. B packing!

Lindie--your stir fry sounds good. I have veggies from my farm share to use but we won't be home this weekend--going to DC to see the oldest DD do her 2nd marathon. It will be rainy and warm--not good conditions.

Terri--you have been busy! I also have trouble cooking for 2 but I am getting better at it! And I guess I'd have a generator with a full gas tank all the time. DD1 is in the city and they haven't cut power to the city yet--just outlying areas where it goes above lots of brush and scrub.

So--going to go get coffee (good walk) and then housework. I pick up my practice grand today at 3. Bye for now!

Cathy, how awful to be that sick and not home! (Been there/done that and never want to have it happen again!) So glad it cleared up quickly! Yay to others starting to realize how this teacher is not teaching! Yes, T.G.I.F.!

Betsy, I loved your novelette! I was wondering why your DH didn't cut the pork roast before freezing it, too! At least it eventually finished cooking and you now have numerous meals with it! Bummer it was so late! Glad K is getting out on her own...hopefully she and Rachel will be good roommates!

Lindie, is Amigo sleeping with you now or was he just relaxing on your bed yesterday? Hope they finish that roof work quickly so you can clean up any dust from it that ends up in your apartment once instead of a number of times!

Dianne, glad the others are feeling the way you do about the park teaching at that venue! Were others using your stuff when you left it there? That would make me really mad! Good idea to bring it all home. Sibling rivalry is fine, but it should not create a major issue between them! I hope the girls can get past it! If anything DD2 should want to work at getting back the stamina she had so she can at least meet her own times and if she beats DD3, so be it!

Terri, when you talk about all the home-y things you do it makes me think of Little House on the Prairie or the Waltons, lol! You and your family are very gifted! Hope the traditions continue!

Mare, haven't heard from you...hoping no news is good news!

It has been a long week! Since Wednesday I have been a day off...Wednesday I thought it was Thursday and Thursday I thought it was Friday and now today I am repeating my Friday, lol! I know it is not Saturday because I have to work at the rectory. Fr. B and his sister are in VA for a family wedding. They flew down yesterday, but before Fr. B flew out he texted me saying he managed to pack his suitcase in at 43 pounds, but that I do a much better job. I cracked up!
I haven't used the new microwave except to reheat some Chinese food...it seems okay...proof will be when I try defrosting, lol! I think it is very similar to the previous one, so it should be fine. I believe it sticks out a tad more and is definitely about an inch longer...sure hope my 20 Qt pot doesn't cause the automatic fan to go on when I use that pot! I think my other "normal" sized pots will be fine. Guess I'll find out soon enough.

Need to skedaddle! Have a great Friday!

Anne

Cathy, you are very dedicated to go in after feeling so sick. We follow the rule of not going in until 24 hours after the last episode of illness. it's too bad your meeting got cancelled but it's good to know the administration seems aware that something needs to be done. You would think a worried teacher would be scrambling to do better but it sure doesn't seem like it.I took notes yesterday but didn't post them since the pork story was so long. CARING is a GOOD thing! Many of those students don't have anyone who cares and they need that, luckily they get it from you. We have a lot of teachers in special education working on an emergency teaching license since there is such a shortage. Would you ever consider doing that? Rachel ( DD2's roommate to be) is willingly paying the extra security deposit because she is aware her pets) are the reason for the increase. The guinea pig situation still needs to be addressed but it will be. Yes, starting out with next to nothing is very costly so we are happy to help DD2 get started in her new place. It's funny that you like looking at your new shed because most people place them in a location where they can't see them. I hope it stays looking nice and you continue to enjoy the view, I am envious because I have wanted one for a long time. We are torn between a shed and simply adding a third stall to the garage OR an extra garage in the backyard. Our elementary school photos are a compilation of all the individual photos and have been for years, I don't think any of my children ever had a class photo with everyone together like we used to.

Terri, is there a great need for farriers in your area? Our niece went to school for equine management and she massages horses in Montana but she also became a professional photographer to make ends meet. I'm really sorry, Terri, but it is really good to know that there 's something you have trouble baking! DD1 makes amazing pie crusts right in the pie pan but she doesn't like the taste, silly girl! She prefers the Pilsbury kind! I LOVE Field of Dreams and how you changed their well known phrase to, "If you bake it..." The apple press sounds perfect for you, I know you would put it to good use. I still cringe when I think about the gallons of cider our local orchard friends dumped out because they weren't selling and the season was nearly over. They are older and don't have a computer but if I had known, I could have sold all of that with a mere post on Facebook. It is also sad because after that experience, they stopped making cider. emoticon

Anne, your fire and marshmallows looked perfect! How do you like your new microwave, We got a new one for the daycare and I am not really happy with it but it will do. if we have a fire we make it a point to go to the store to buy all of the ingredients for s'mores and we invite the neighbors over to join us. I just can't imagine a plain toasted marshmallow any more but I did enjoy them as a child.

Lindie, the day you asked how the children were was a tough one because they all had and still have colds, it has been a very long week. yes, we are concerned about DD2 moving out but she has shown a lot of maturity lately and we are nearby to help so I think it will be OK as long as the roommates keep their own interests going and respect each other's privacy. We did find another possible roommate for her that we think would be a perfect fit but her lease isn't up until next September. Time will tell...

Dianne, it's good that others in your group have come to their senses about this place you work(ed) for. Of course you are entitled to your OWN stuff, what are they thinking? emoticon Are you feeling any better? How miserable to do the CROP walk with a cold and in the rain, you are a trooper! Your daughters should just be proud of themselves for running but I know how strong sibling rivalry can be, sigh. Have to go, first one has arrived...

Have a fabulous Friday!

Dianne, how was the teaching? Will you make contact with Bob's daughter today?
Anne, at least we know you are still kicking---LOL
Terri, the people in California are learning a hard lesson, if you blame the electric company and make them pay, they will get you back---heehee You all really can't blame them for using super precautions now. But what a pain! Will those schools have to make up those days? In out state we have to go to school for 180 days and rarely get an exception to that from the governor. The press sounds interesting but will be a lot of work---but you like that kind of thing so hopefully you get it and find out that you like it---although if you like it too much, I can see you moving up to a bigger one---LOL
Lindie, so where is your story?
Betsy, you all should have tried to cut that roast before you put it in the fridge. And if they have butchers on duty, they should have cut it or at least in half for you. Glad it cooked all the way thru and made some pulled pork from it that you can have on some of your super busy days. Too funny about the rolls, both kind!
Well, I didn't have my meeting. She did show up but I was wondering because she didn't get to the room until 7:45. And then didn't start doing anything with the kids until 8:30. The poor things were so bored. Then all she did was read a chapter of the new book we have just started. I was working on our storage closet, trying to organize it and did find the paint we needed for our pumpkin contest. But I started to feel sick to my stomach. Took the kids for a water break to wake them up---because they were bored---got back and got into our bathroom in time to throw up. I just had to go home I felt so miserable. Headed home and had to pull off the road to throw up again. Made it home and continued to throw up a couple more times. Plus the other end had joined in. I couldn't get warm and had to have 2 blankets on me on the couch---laid there for 4 hours before feeling a bit better. Ate some dry toast to see how I would do---that was okay. Dh fixed me scrambled eggs and dry toast around 7. Feel okay this morning so going in.
But the big news was that the Special Ed advisor wants a meeting with her---teacher asked the principal what it was about and he told her it was about her attendance---so she was worried---but complaining that most were training outages----but not sure if they realize that she doesn't leave plans for me to use---that is what I am going to say plus her way of teaching without paperwork. I did tell her we had been learning about dinosaurs and that she could find some video on them since I hadn't used that venue but she just brushed off my idea. Not that she has to use mine but it makes it seem that what I did with them was just waste of time work.
I did find out that my co-worker Doris was in the room with them and had them do lots of the papers I had left for them---LOL---so I was happy about that. Only complaint was the one that drives me crazy so he won't get any special treat from me today. Not sure when I will get to see the principal now---his secretary said we would reschedule it when I was back since we didn't know if I would be back today.

Once upon a time there was a woman who liked to plan her meals emoticon for at least a week in advance and while doing so she perused good old fashioned cookbooks. emoticon She found a recipe that looked interesting for sweet and sour pork. The recipe called for a two pound pork shoulder roast and even though she and her hard working husband had recently purchased half a pig, they did not have a pork shoulder roast so she added the item to her shopping list. emoticon The woman and her husband shopped together and did not see any two pound pork shoulder roasts so they asked the butcher and he directed them to a cooler with eight pound roasts that were on sale. emoticon They asked the butcher if he could cut it for them but unfortunately, the answer was negative. The husband reassured his beautiful wife that he could cut it at home so they purchased the roast that normally cost $25 for a mere eight dollars. They stored it in their freezer for a few weeks and one day, the wife decided she would like to try the recipe she found so she put the roast in a smaller refrigerator to thaw emoticon and told her husband that she did. The plan was to have the meal on a Saturday night but as they often do, the plans changed when a relative treated them to lunch and then the women made plans to see a movie. emoticon The movie was later in the afternoon and the husband thought he would make the pork roast his way and they could try the sweet and sour pork at another time. emoticon The wife said he didn't have enough time because the roast was so large. emoticon He responded that he had used this recipe before and it would only take 90 minutes. She once again asked if he was sure and he responded positively. The women headed to the movie and came home to a house that had no aroma of cooking and the husband said, "There's no way I can make that roast this way, it's too big!" emoticon He then suggested they go to the store and buy the ingredients for spaghetti emoticon but in the end they opted for pizza emoticon delivery because it was a cold night and it was already past six. The next day the hard working husband attempted to cut emoticon the roast but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't do it. He found a pulled pork recipe he wanted to try so the wife agreed to make it because she wanted him to rest. emoticon The first instruction was to have the raw roast sit at room temperature for 90 minutes. The couple did this and then preheated the oven and let it sit for 15 minutes at 425 before seasoning the roast, adding some apple juice and putting it in the oven for four hours. In the meantime, the wife thought the premade Sweet Hawaiian emoticon rolls they bought would make a wonderful addition to the finished pork but the hard working husband disagreed and insisted on setting out some Rhodes rolls to rise. That was done so they set out on a trip to the country emoticon for a benefit for a toddler. The weather was wintry mix emoticon emoticon so it was cold but the wife was warm in her turtleneck sweater dress, leggings, long boots and winter coat so she kept those on. The husband told her the benefit was in a building at the fairgrounds so she thought it would be warm because it was inside. emoticon
The couple has a critically ill emoticon friend and his wife who cares for him was away for the day with their daughter so she asked them to check in on him but to text first. The text was sent but he never responded so they figured he was sleeping and headed to the country with plans to check in on him after the benefit. They were several miles away from town when the text came that he had just awakened and now would be a good time to visit. Dutiful and caring friends that they are, they turned around and went to see him briefly because that was all he could handle. Once again, they headed to the country and once they got to the proper village, the hard working husband turned to his lovely wife, saw she had on a dress coat and scarf and realized she would need something for her head to keep warm and dry. He offered her his baseball cap! She declined and said she would use her scarf if needed. They parked at the bottom of a hill where there was a tractor with a trailer complete with bales of hay for seating. They got out of their car and were about to walk up a very steep hill when the driver of the tractor offered them a ride. They accepted, thinking they would go straight up the hill but it was so steep the tractor had to drive around in a big circle to get them there. The woman was very grateful she had her long scarf because she put it up and over her head before wrapping it around her neck. The benefit was as expected and they put in their time before going home, expecting their roast to be nearly ready. emoticon It wasn't. They put it in for another hour. emoticon .and another... emoticon and another emoticon and another... emoticon .By eight o'clock, the leftover pizza emoticon was brought out and that was dinner. Remember those rolls that were put out to rise? They were getting so high they were ready to burst. The man wasn't going to lose his rolls so the roast had to come out and the oven turned down so the rolls could bake. he looked rather comical poking the rolls down and hoping he wasn't ruining them emoticon . Once they came out, he went to bed, emoticon leaving the wife to keep watch over the roast. She figured the oven had to stand at 425 for 15 minutes before they put it in the first time so she did that again and started over, checking the roast every hour. emoticon At midnight, she was getting pretty tired and even though she thought the roast could have used one more hour, she pulled it emoticon from the oven and let it cool before pulling the pork apart and transferring it into bowls for the refrigerator. You would think that this would be their meal for Monday night but they had some chicken out that needed to be cooked by that day or it would have spoiled. emoticon The chicken was great and on Tuesday, the pork was wonderful as well. emoticon The couple has learned their lesson and if they ever do this again, they will start the process immediately upon waking. emoticon There are five packages of pulled pork in their freezer and they sent two home with their eldest daughter who happened to visit over the weekend. They have yet to hear from her if she liked it.
Guess what? The husband tried the Hawaiian rolls and decided they weren't so bad after all!
emoticon Guess what else? The couple HAS pork roasts in their freezer from the 1/2 pig that aren't shoulder roasts but they WILL work for the sweet and sour recipe! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Even though this couple had some definite communication issues, they are still very much in love and plan to cook together for many moons emoticon to come! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Good afternoon Friends, day is cloudy with possible rain, oh how fast the weather changes on us. I went to the local laundromat this morning to use their triple loader, but they wanted 7.50 a load, and I calculated for 50 cents more I could have washed and dried 2 loads for that amount. I wanted to use the triple loader for the blankets I was washing and brought all the laundry, needless to say I used a double loader for 3.50 and brought home some of the laundry to do later in the building. Drying was .25 for 4 minutes ! No wonder that laundromat is not so busy - however, the blankets got washed and dried and a set of sheets too. I had mcdonald's while there for breakfast, course that was closer to 10 am so now I am not so hungry for lunch and will just have some fruit and a power bar.

Terri, I saw about the issue with the power - they said due to the fires - still - I wonder, did you leave food in the fridge at all ? I hope not because you might have some dangerous science experiements in there unless you had a generator that goes on automatically and I don't recall you saying that you did. I chuckled at the comment about nothing working, bank cards, gas etc, that is exactly what happens during a disaster like earth quakes - always pays to have a few 5ers in your purse just in case, at leas that is what we have been told, course price of things would sky rocket due to gouging - I keep telling Gene we need non perishables that do not need cooking - we need to get on that too. Also I picked up rotisory chicken for dinner cause I am being lazy lol !

What did you wind up doing ?

Cathy, I am sorry you dread going into work because of this person, this is so wrong in every way. I hope you find a way to resolve this so you can enjoy work again. When I stopped enjoying my work, I planned my retirement and I have not looked back.

Dianne, I bet you feel good going back to the gym, it might take a bit for you to get back into routine with that. Glad you only have 4 events to do for this lastest contract - I am sure you will be so happy when it is done.

Anne and Mare hope all is well

Betsy, hope you are doing well too ... about that pork story LOL

Terri, I was prepping food for a stir fry, I had mushroom to clean, slice as well as green pepper and I always wash the meat I am cooking except hamburg - hard to wash that. There has been a huge recall of beef in Canada due to lystra scares, and due to an inspection of a meat processing plant in Toronto that failed and the recall is over 300 items/produce of meat that is being recalled - I checked, I had none of it, not only beef but chicken too ... some of that beef went to the US - our countries exchange food all the time - but not sure where all it went to.

Amigo adjusted nicely to the roofers, they dont' seem to be here today - so it is quiet - he is on my bed sleeping - I changed blankets because he was pulling threads on my muslin blanket and I have to fix it now - so this other blanket, he wont' get caught too much. I really want to clip those nails but Gene says no - hmmmmm maybe he will change his mind if Amigo keeps pestering him LOL Amigo is not using his tree right now booooo .....

Cathy, I don't think I will ever learn to cook for two. Even last weekend when Steve was getting ready to go out to the ranch to help Adam with something, I made a batch of biscuits and gravy with the intention of him eating some for breakfast and taking the rest out to the kids. He and I had JUST sat down when a vehicle drove up to the house. I looked outside and saw Mary Beth and just cracked up! He said, "How do they know?" I often borrow the phrase from the movie, Field of Dreams and say, "If I cook it, they will come" Now, Mary was coming over for something to do with the baby shower, but even she said, "Good timing, huh?" LOL So she took a few biscuits home with her for Joseph. We do love leftovers, though--so that's a good thing. Sorry Howard needed you to stay home rather than going to the pool for your stress relief, but good for you for staying with your man when he needed you. How's he feeling today?

This situation with the teacher had to be brought to someone in authority rather than letting those kids miss an entire year of instruction. With those kids, they'd lose ground quickly if things weren't being taught and reinforced all the time. What she's doing doesn't even qualify for good babysitting, yet she's collecting a paycheck and probably some very sweet benefits. It's just wrong on SO many levels. Lindie gave good advice, though. You can tell that she's dealt with similar things and can be objective about how to report things. It doesn't sound like you've kept a diary, but if you've made any notes at all it would be handy. They've got a record of her absences though, and it sounds as though she's been out nearly as much as she's been in class.

Congrats on the new position for K, Betsy! I'm glad the pet drama wasn't as bad as first thought, but how is that working out? I'm glad you told K that she had to be forthcoming, or YOU would. It's her reputation that's at stake and she owes it to herself and the landlord to be honest--no matter what her roommate does or says. I hope she stands up. How is your body feeling today? One more day 'til the weekend, so I hope you're finding some relief with OTC meds.

I've got my list started and have crossed off a couple of things (emptied the dishwasher, washed big dishes in the sink, fed the animals) but haven't gotten too ambitious yet. I have more pie filling to use up and pie dough chilling in the fridge, so will try to assemble some hand pies and bake them. I don't need to eat them--just practice making the piecrust until I can get good (or good enough) at it. Like Dianne, I love the pumpkin pie from Costco, but they are an hour away and I let my membership expire because I don't need to shop like that anymore. Besides, you all know that I like to cook from scratch. It's good for being able to use food I grow myself (or get from another gardener or farmer), for learning how to combine ingredients to make a meal out of what I have available, and just for the feeling of developing a skill that not everyone has these days. People are far too dependent on running to the grocery store or fast food and are utterly helpless when they have to be "off the grid" for some reason. PG&E has shut down a lot of El Dorado county (where our other house is) again for a "wind event" and I don't know how long the power will be off this time. People are complaining like crazy (via FB), but they (PG&E) have been held financially responsible for some of the most horrific fires in CA and they aren't taking any chances these days. I can't blame them and think it's good to be careful; however, once they've shut down an entire county (or most of it) they can't just flip the power back on. They have to physically go out and do inspections to make sure it's safe to do so and then only bring it back online in increments, from what I understand. So the power might remain off for many for days AFTER the weather event has passed. People need to educate themselves and equip their homes to prepare, rather than wait until the last second and then howl because everything is closed, there's no fuel in the gas stations, ATMs and credit cards don't work and schools are closed. Actually, that's sadly funny to me that when parents and kids have to be home without any electricity, they don't know how to handle it.

Lindie, I had to go back and re-read your post about the roast. You're right that you mentioned Betsy's roast, but then right after that, you said you were doing meal prep. I guess I just put the two together in my head. So what did you prep? And we're still waiting for Betsy's pork roast story, right? I hope they finish the roof project quickly and clean up the mess. They'd better hurry up before the weather turns! Poor Amigo.

Anne, I hope you and Mare get to come up for air soon. I've been here more than you lately, so you must be super busy...or I'm just spending too much time on the computer! LOL We are interested to know how Mare's situation is developing regarding finding a place for her son and DH's contentment with his new home. Also, your plans for visiting the kids. Did you decide to go after Christmas as mentioned earlier? Go whenever you have the most flexibility so you can relax. Well, as much as any of us relax when we're with a bunch of little kids!

Dianne, thanks for posting the link for the Crop Walk. I know you don't like to solicit here, but I did ask and wanted to be able to support my friend. So thanks again.

Time for me to get up and get something more done. I might be going for a drive to look at an apple press that I found for sale online. It's a smaller one and only holds a gallon of fruit, I believe; however, the price is good for a starter project. We still have lots and lots of apples at the ranch and I've made about all the sauce and butter we can use for a year or more, but having some home-pressed organic cider on the shelf would be nice. The press will also do grapes and our neighbors have those by the truck load! I've sent a message to the seller and am just waiting to hear back from her. In the meantime, I need to be productive.

Morning! I am off to teach--only 4 more after this. They have not renewed our contract--at least, haven't asked about it yet. We have brought ALL our stuff home and will take what we need when we teach.

I visited Bob for a short time yesterday--we played a game and his daughter will be there today. I will connect later today with her.

Cathy--it is hard but it is needed that you "stick to the facts" as Lindie said. You are a professional--sounds like she isn't. Hope DH is feeling steadier now.

Terri--your cooking/leftovers sound good. I can't do a pie for anything--and Costco does such good pumpkin pies that I don't need to! LOL My $1 coffees are no longer on sale so I get one 16 oz and that is it.

Lindie--hope Amigo isn't scared out of his cat tree for good! Glad they are getting the roof done but it will be a mess and noisy.

Betsy and Anne and Mare--hi!

Dianne, glad you are back at the gym. Know you have missed that but makes sense when one is not home much to not pay for the membership. My Dh hasn't been to the pool in several months so he has almost 3 months to use but it is time for me to pay for another 3, but not until I get back from Disney. Hope your visit with Bob was a bit more pleasant.
Betsy, you having issues with your hips---sounds like me---the shots make the world of difference but they do hurt, especially if your hips are already hurting---but afterwards it is so much better after you get over the soreness of the shot.
Anne, hope it was a good kind of busy and you got a good night's sleep.
Terri, see, being alone is hard to cook for---luckily you had food to finish off and other stuff to open. Do you have trouble just cooking for 2? I know I do at times but luckily my Dh will eat leftovers and I can take leftovers for lunch which is nice.
Lindie, glad the sunshine has returned. Did the burn Queen rear its ugly head? LOL
Dh's procedure went fine but he seemed to be much groggier this time when I brought him home so I didn't go to the pool---definitely unsteady on his feet for a while and was afraid he might fall if I was not home. I did piddle around a bit and put some things away---should have done more but needed the destress time more. I am not looking forward to going in today---and half way think she won't be in today again.
Hope everyone has a good Thursday----Friday is just around the corner!

Evening Folks, what a day today, back to sunshine and getting dry walks in ! The roofers came back today. They parked one of those big refuse bins by Amigo's cat tree and he was in it and it scared him, then huge trucks came with roofing supplies - guess the whole roof is getting done - my poor kitchen window is covered in roof dirt and once they are gone I will go out and clean it myself ... Amigo never slept much today but is sleeping now - I worked out a feeding schedule that I hope works and he does not wake Gene for food -seems he tends to paw Gene's face or smack his lips in Gene's ear - never knew a cat could smack its lips, lick them a lot but maybe that is what he ment LOL

Terri, I dont' think one coffee a day will hurt, and yes it does keep the headaches away - I have decaf but it still has 3 % cafine and that is enough for me - I have 3 coffees in the morning and water after that . I have a mason jar with a place in the lid for a straw and it holds 12 to 16 ounces and I am trying to drink 3 a day - but most days it is 2 if I am lucky ! How is Aunt Donna doing, have you heard ?

Dianne, glad you are limiting your time with Bob, I know you want to do more for him, but if he's to the point that he does not recognise that you have been, not sure how far his dementia goes, then shorter visits might be best. Glad you had a good evening out with your friends.

Cathy, I am so glad you are going to talk to someone. One suggestion, if I may, stick to facts and keep personal thought out of it, When taking facts from people who lost their jobs for what ever reason, they always start off with personal opinion. I would listen then ask them to stick to the facts so that the adjudicators could make a proper decision - I know you are a professional and care about these kids, Perhaps interject that at the end of the interview, showing a diary of dates and times will also help ... course I could be wrong.

Betsy, I am sorry you are feeling the bursitis in the hips and what not - I hope you did not do a lot of heavy lifting today.

Anne, good to hear from you, look forward to your next post too, hope all is well, how's the new microwave ?

About that potroast ... I was actually encouraging Betsy to tell us HER postroast story LOL but maybe now I might go do one too ... or not ... lol

I read earlier and I guess I thought I had posted. Oops--I guess that's getting to be the story of my life. One distraction after another.

The serviceman came and replaced the thermostat on my oven today and it seems to be working fine. I'm glad I didn't have to pay the nearly$300 for the part because we just had this done less than a year ago. So, Viking sent the part for free and now I'll have another year to make sure it lasts; however, I'm hoping not to be in this house in another year. I sat and worked on some mending while he was here and we talked about kids and families. Nice guy.

I tried my hand a making a pie crust and baked an apple pie. I'm definitely not impressed with the crust. It's pretty ugly. It might taste okay, but I haven't cut into it yet, so don't know. I made a second batch of pastry and divided it into balls and put it into the fridge for later. I want to make some hand pies with that. If this crust doesn't taste good, I'll try another recipe--but they're all pretty much the same. Flour, salt, fat, ice water, don't handle the dough much...blah, blah, blah. I definitely need to practice until I get it down. I know it can't be that hard. My gd Ali makes a beautiful, tasty pie crust and I did what she did...sigh...I might have to stick to cobblers and crisps, but don't want to admit defeat until I'm forced to.

The power situation at the ranch is still iffy and they're having to watch their meters all the time to see if the generator is putting out too much or too little power. We're definitely going to have to upgrade this system, but won't be putting that kind of money into it until our name is on the deed.

Cathy, I'm glad you've scheduled a meeting to address this horrible "teacher". Her work ethic is non-existent and for her to be collecting a paycheck for what she's doing borders on fraud, in my opinion. It's disgusting to call that "teaching".

Uh-oh to the sister drama, Dianne. Good idea to stay out of it. They're adults now and need to work out their own competitions and other issues. I'm glad you slept well and felt rested today. I did, too. Last week, I had too many late nights followed by early mornings, and I really needed some coffee in the morning to think straight. Yes, I'm back on coffee in the mornings, but have been trying to make just enough to fill my commuter cup once (so I don't get a headache) and then switch to hot water if I want something warm to sip on.

I haven't had to cook anything more than a fried egg since Steve left. I had some leftover chili and homemade cornbread from the baby shower for 2 dinners and now have 2 jars of Italian soup to warm up. I can add pasta or not (probably will, just to give it more body) but will try to keep the carbs to a minimum either way. Steve took 4 jars to camp with him and they had the neighbors (3 other crew members) over for dinner. Our SIL bought ravioli and added it to theirs and bought some chewy bread to go with it. Steve said it was a huge hit and everyone had 2nds. My SIL doesn't like soup, but he asked me to make this one and send it with Pop. By Friday, I'll have to come up with something to cook again so will probably do something big again so that Steve can take something back with him. Maybe a pot roast, now that Lindie mentioned cooking a roast, I've been thinking about that all day.

I need to make some phone calls before it gets late here. It's 7:33 right now and I don't make calls after 8 pm unless I can't avoid it or it's an emergency. I try to respect people's family time at the end of the day. See you all tomorrow~

Morning! I finally slept GREAT and felt ready to go this AM--didn't go to the gym or do much of anything yesterday. I did get out to dinner with my friends from the girls' high school. That was nice. Sat by the ones I like to talk to!

Cathy--I think you are doing a big service for your kids. Scary cause we have all been brought up to "not tattle" but this is serious. She needs to take this teaching job seriously! And to blind-side you! That is awful. Sending hugs and support!

I did stop at the home yesterday to see Bob and there were no parking spaces--so I didn't stay. I will go over today--and his daughter comes in tonight. I work tomorrow but will likely go over after I get home--I'll text and see what is going on.

I also have to do some work for church--putting together the stewardship campaign stuff and writing up notes from the Monday meeting. Somehow I have become secretary of whatever meeting I attend.

Betsy--I hope you are doing better!!

Lindie--you are keeping busy! Wow!

Terri and Anne and Mare--hope all continues to go okay for you!

I need to get moving!

Dianne, glad you are okay. I was wondering if the cold had gotten to you since you didn't post. That lingering cough can be so annoying. I have developed one myself----know it is the weather shifting and some allergy drainage---and so annoying at times. One of my kids has a horrible cold right now but no fever, so I couldn't send him home yesterday and I could tell he felt so miserable and kept losing his voice. Keep those visits with Bob short---just tell him you have an appointment---you visit him more than family does which is a shame.
Betsy, woohoo to her getting that job so quickly and with benefits---the raise is nice but the benefits might bite into that raise----hope she will be clearing enough to afford that new place. Hope she does well at this place.
Anne, even the ones who leave get your special treatment---LOL Hope you got the new microwave installed. HOpe the meeting wasn't that boring.
Lindie, how did the roast turn out? Glad you got outside and the weather is better.
Terri, did you get a lot done yesterday?
Well, you know how the last straw broke the camel's back? It happened yesterday and I have a conference scheduled with the principal and the vp who does subs on Thursday.. I figured she would be there since I didn't get any texts from her---got to school and someone came up to me and said "See your teacher is out again today>" I was pretty mad about that. It would have been nice to be mentally prepared to be in charge and not be blindsided. Thankfully the teacher next door had left me an emergency plan to use if something happened again. My buddy came in to check and he stayed with the kids so I could go run copies so I had stuff to do with the kids. So I did have lots to do with them---enough to leave a pile with a note for today's sub since I doubted she would come in to leave plans for the sub in the morning if she even goes to the training. I didn't have to do that but I just couldn't do that to a sub, not having stuff for my kids. I also have others coming in to check on my kids to make sure they are alright and that the sub understands them---if they even have a sub available. It is just crazy to think there might not be one person in that room with them. I care too much, I guess. You can imagine that I was quite mentally exhausted by the time I got home, and we needed to run errands and Dh wanted his normal dinner out. I was glad to get home and take a shower---that helped. It probably helps that I am talking to them after the fact when I can be calmer about things.
We have to leave about 7:30 to head to the hospital for Dh's back injection so we should be home by lunch time.

emoticon Hello Hello - yellow and orange gummy bears are on tap right now - I know I should not eat ANY of them LOL The sun will be out the rest of the week but it will be cooler, fine by me eh ! Already got a walk into Safeway and back, picked up some stuff to go with the beef I am cooking up when I get off here - shortly LOL

Anne, yes I do a personal study, daily study and then have a weekly study for preparation for the meetings - this week is 1 Peter 3 - 5 next week will start into 2 Peter - I enjoy these. The daily study, I do first thing in the morning, I look at the daily scripture or text and then read the chapter it comes from to get a better understanding - that can take anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour to do depending on the scripture and information in the chapter its self, sometimes I will read more. How do you do yours, do you just open a bible and read ? I hope your day was good today,

Dianne, glad the girls enjoyed their race, but the competitive nature I understand, my girls were like that with video games, infact, the oldest daughter would insist she get a second try because something else caused her to make a mistake - course they are not as competitive today as they are both busy being adults now in their 40's .... still once in a while there is no doubt drama ! I just stay out of it LOL It's hard to help Bob when he's not really himself and its the dementia - You might want to do just shorter visits, figure out which subject matters are safe and avoid those that get him riled up, and ignore when he's complaining about where he is and the people who are there. Sing Sing Sing - if you can get him to ... just hum and see if he picks up and starts singing .... a thought to help ... How is DH doing ? How was your coffee ?

Cathy, honestly, if you were not grey haired before the start of school you certainly should be, and is it really worth all the stress of this teacher ? I know you care about those children being taught properly - but if this is stressing you out that you are angry all the time, why bother ? Time to speak up before you explode and say things you dont' really mean. There must be someone you can go to. Are you keeping a daily diary, or are you hoping the parents are going to say something ? How's the shed coming along ?

Terri, how is the "to do" list going today ? I know how computers ( games ) can suck you in and the next thing you know the afternoon is gone ! I love to play computer games and spend hours on these virtual things that disappear when the computer is off - I need to change that part of my life ... how is the electricty issue going ?

Betsy such good news for your DD2 glad she got the position, she might be nervous at first but she will be fine if she remembers she too is learning - how is all going with the place they are moving into ? So yes tell the storey of the pork please !!!

Mare hope all is well with you - have you moved ? Have you found a place for your son? Has your DH found his way to what he considers home?

Ok time to go get off this computer and fix the stuff to cook - prep time !

Arg--I missed getting on here yesterday--again. So I have answered specifics below. Yesterday was the pool class--I am back at the Y--then I went to the home to sing, met hubby for dinner, had a church meeting, had a history meeting with my group (which was a waste cause we had no "business"). The park I hate has not offered a new contract--and I am not the only one who is not impressed anymore. We have removed ALL our stuff from the building except the big trunk which will go very soon. They get mad when we take our stuff but it is OUR stuff.

I have been really tired lately--meant to go to the Y this AM but just couldn't move. My doctor is out on medical leave and I don't like his PA or any of the other docs in the practice for my physical so I am waiting... Maybe I should get out for my walk--to get coffee!

Terri—WOW you have been busy. Yes, your DGD’s SO sounds like my BIL—not a good thing. Glad you got so much canning done—and put away! I used to do it but, without a big garden, it is expensive to do. My CROP Walk was very wet—and short—I didn’t go the full 5 miles cause I am still fighting this cold/cough. Oh, no to the electrical issues at the ranch—and they say they will be there with parts and then don’t show up? Not good.

Lindie—the girls ran from Detroit to Windsor and back. DD3 did MUCH better than DD1 expected and they beat DD2’s time. This is a problem cause DD2 could have finished much faster last Jan in Disney but waited to run with the sisters. Now DD3 has beaten her time and she is really upset. She does NOT want to do another half marathon but wants to be faster than DD3. Sigh—DD1 feels responsible and terrible and agrees this isn’t a big deal but it is to DD2. DRAMA! Sorry about Amigo getting sick—I hate dealing with vomit of any kind. At least you had your shoes on!

Betsy—WOW—you are too busy, too! Your weekend was packed. I had a bad weigh-in—we had dinner with friends Fri night and I ate way too much. Just not getting into the losing frame-of-mind! Congrats on the job and BENEFITS for DD2!! That is great!

Cathy—the walk was wet and I did go visit Bob after—again, he is getting worse and said I keep arguing with him and have to be “always right”. I guess I just don’t want to leave him thinking something incorrect so….I bite my tongue. I hope the sub for Wednesday complains to the principal about the lessons and the teacher gets some correction—she is not a good fit. I know I would be very frustrated dealing with her—it is hard when you cannot control what you KNOW if a bad situation and you just have to deal with it.

Anne—I wouldn’t travel over Thanksgiving, either—but my girls will be here for Christmas—at least the weekend before. I hope you can workout good dates for the visit. You are such a sweetie for Father B!

SO--I better get moving!! Hugs to all! Hi, Mare!

Betsy, that is so awesome! Yay to the benefits!

Cathy, do you think admin will wonder why you didn't come forward and say something. Of course, you are going away...so maybe you can say something when you return, if the subs don't.

Lindie, did you have "homework" from your meeting or are you doing a self-taught Bible lesson? Or did you do like me...open and read?

Terri, thanks for the update on the other great grand! I'm not a big marshmallow fan, but the fire was at the right stage for toasting marshmallows and I couldn't pass it up. Those 4 were the only ones I did and ate, lol!

We got a new microwave last night. I hope J can put it in tonight...though I do have a meeting, so it may have to wait til tomorrow night. Fr. B was in the area and he picked up the slacks and asked me if I had access to an alb he would prefer to take to a family wedding this weekend. It is accessible on the 3rd floor, so he will come by tonight or tomorrow to pick it up. I will also check for a couple of other things that he asked for, but I think they are buried in the basement stuff.

Time to get back to work...have a good Tuesday!

Anne

Cathy, I know you don't want to say anything to the administration about the woman who calls herself a teacher in your classroom but could another teacher do it? You could explain your predicament and I am sure they would keep your name out of it.

As you probably saw in the feed above, DD2 is over the moon because she interviewed at 2 and was hired by 8! They had asked for her transcripts and we ordered them so we didn't expect to hear anything until at least the end of the week. She will get a raise of eighteen cents an hour PLUS benefits!

I am running out of time because Michael will be here early but I will TRY to post again tonight.

Have a terrific Tuesday!

Betsy

Anne, love the fire! I would pass on the marshmallows, too---not a fan---but I would enjoy cooking them for someone else---kind of like crabbing---I like to go do that but I don't want to eat them either. You sure do spoil your priests---no wonder they love you. Too bad you couldn't just take your nap. You might feel more tired from that procedure and the drugs they gave you to knock you out---remember that stuff stays in your blood cells for quite a while.
Terri, totally agree. I had to do that with my oldest son and had warned my mom but she didn't listen ---until later. But he learned the hard way and has really been a good guy after learning from his hard knocks. Hope you decided to rest yesterday so you can do more today. Sometimes we just need to do that.
Lindie, good use of a damp dreary day. Hope the sunshine returns soon.
Well, the teacher arrived late ---and was upset that I had already taken the kids for their pictures---she thought they did a class picture----she is so elementary in her thinking and her teaching---the kids are bored---if you can call it teaching to go to a website and put on a video lesson and then do nothing afterwards to reinforce it. then I came back from specials and she told me she had to leave after my lunch to get her 5 year old---who was sick when she took her to school---isn't that the kind of parent that drives us crazy when they do that to us? Did she tell me what to do or leave me any work? NO---but thankfully I had papers left from last week to use. This is getting very old and very tiring. And now she is going to some dumb training on Wed. when she knows I will not be there either---she honestly does not care about the kids---she better leave plans for the sub this time that do not involve the TV.
Good pool workout last night but I am tired this morning---keep waiting for the phone text saying she won't be there today.

Good evening Friends, its been a long rainy dreary day but I spent it being quiet and doing my bible studies - all and all a good day but I sure could use that fire, Anne, thanks for posting the pictures ! I have often thought of getting one of those electric ones for the living room, however, our place is too too hot as it is and I would not want a lot of heat, just the imitation fire and occassional crackle lol - I'll pass on the mellows though ...

Terri, glad you understood what I ment by the "woodshed" - he just needs a man to show him how to be a man and not a winey brat - he needs to learn to put others first, not himself and I sure hope your granddaughter is not of the opinion that she can change him, how did she react to his comment about no gifts for him ? I know you wanted to give him a gibb smack or two - obviously very imature - thanks for letting me know about your other grand daughter as well. All you can do is raise them with values and it is up to them to accept them, some just want to create their own values and wind up at the school of hard knocks. It does not hurt to have a down day once in a while to recharge those batteries and you have been go go go for some time now !

Betsy, glad you had a good weekend and you are getting things ready for the move - did they fix the lease for the caged critter too ? I hope that R is not lying again - not a good way to start a living arrangement and I would wonder about her other ethics too ... I am sure you are concerned. How were the children today ?

Cathy, how was your school day, did the teacher show up ? Or the babysitter ? Sorry could not resist - how many sleep now to your trip ? You know as you get closer to the holidays you might find that sign !

Well have a good night all and hopefully a good nights sleep and I am sure Dianne was busy or reading or running, having coffee and signing some where ! Take care now ...

Love the fire, Anne! The only way I'll eat marshmallows is roasted and yours look perfect. Good for you for doing the slacks for the Father and saving the dry cleaner's fee.

I've been working and playing at my desk and still haven't gotten much else done around here, but I'm just going to call it a rest day and not feel guilty about it.

I forgot to comment on Lindie's comment regarding the "baby daddy" who needs to grow up. He is not a spoiled only-child or baby of the family. He and his twin sister and younger sister grew up in foster care locally and he has a severe case of entitlement attitude along with posing as a victim any time he's confronted. Yes, he could have used a trip to the woodshed if it were done properly and was followed by consistent training and discipline. Sadly, his foster parents were quite old and I'm not sure how they managed discipline. I'm sure they loved those kids, as they raised them all from very early childhood; however, the kids learned how to work the system and have caused all kinds of grief to them--even leaving them with a huge debt for a car loan they cosigned for, because the boy wrecked the car and decided he wasn't going to pay for it now. And he doesn't have any remorse about any of it and says that it's the foster parents' fault because THEY didn't pay his car insurance! Oh, it makes me spittin' mad and wondering what it will take for gd to come to her senses. On the other hand, I do believe that people can change and that's my prayer. God made him and He can fix him.

The other gd now has two little girls and lives at the opposite end of the state. She's no longer with their father, but seems to like living down there and tends to be intermittently estranged from the family, depending on whether or not she wants something, I guess. That's a sad one, too. Not the way they were raised, or the way any of us want things to be; however, they will make their own choices and live with their own consequences. Our job is to love them, pray for them, and support where we can (without enabling their poor decisions or bailing them out of the consequences that would teach them to make better ones).

Terri, boooooo to the former owner not showing up! I hope the guys can figure out a less expensive way to fix the power plant! Adam was sweet to bring the firewood...it is nice when someone just does something for you and you no longer have to! I had to stop and think about what a draw knife was, then when I thought I figured it out I checked Google and yay! I was right! He must be very talented! Maybe he should go on Forged in Fire (or whatever that show is called)! It sounds like the weekend slowed you down today...rest up!

Cathy, I thought it would have been weird for you not to have taken down your Christmas stuff, but I also know how things can get in the way of to-do's! Can you get into the bins in the basement and pull a few of the fall items out? Hope the teacher was there today and taught for a change!

Betsy, seems like a lot happened over your weekend! Glad the extra critters were a misunderstanding. Looking forward to the pork roast story! Hope the kiddies were good for you today!

Lindie, when I started to read your comment about Anna's bf being brought out behind the shed I was thinking he'd be getting the switch! LOL! Sounds like he needed the switch a long time ago! Bleeechhh! to cat barf, especially on your feet! Hope you don't make that mistake again!

Dianne and Mare, Hi! Hope you had a good Sunday and a are having a good Monday!

I enjoyed a few toasted marshmallows after dinner last night...no smores...no chocolate to put on the grahams! Today I went to Mass, had b-fast with my older sister, and washed and ironed 5 slacks for Fr. B. He had some kind of stain on them and instead of having him bring them to the cleaners I offered to take them. The stain discoloration came out, but a few spots had grease marks left behind. I do not think the dry cleaner would have done better...well, except the pressing...slacks always look better after being pressed by the dry cleaners! Now I'm getting ready to head to the gas station...definitely would rather go take a nap!

Pics of yesterday's fire and my marshmallows in a few.

I felt like I was writing a novel, Cathy!

I am off to a very slow start today. In fact, I haven't even gotten started~

Adam came by to look for some metal that he knew was here in our scrap pile because a customer wants him to make her a draw knife for peeling poles. He's a blacksmith (farrier) by trade, so has the tools and skill to make things like this in his forge. While he was here, he brought me an armload of firewood to say hello. I don't have a fire today and probably won't start one, but it's nice not to have to bring in my own firewood, so I was grateful.

I do have a list, but that's all I've done so far--make the list! LOL Now I'm tired and might take a nap. It might just be one of those days~

It was like reading a novel this morning---LOL
dianne, hope the girls did well. Did you do the walk? It rained all day here---we needed it ---but it was raining pretty hard when I left the church so I was glad to get home and stay put. I should have gone to Walmart and to the gas station but that will have to be done today. Did you go visit Bob?
Anne, I think if you can wait until after Christmas and have a longer period of time for that far in traveling, that would make much more sense. I take it that you got to have a fire. Nice! I still haven't tried out my chiminea---right now we are in a burn ban and not sure if they will lift it after all the rain yesterday..
Betsy, another busy weekend for you. Not surprised that you are setting her up with things she will need for the new place. That can be expensive just buying general stuff you need for everyday living. Sure hope the pet situation is settled. I hope she is not paying half of the extra for having a pet---she should only be paying half of what it would cost if no pet, her friend needs to pay the extra for having a pet. Only way to learn that animals cost in more ways than she thinks.
Lindie, those colors would definitely make a wet day look better. I like looking out the back door and seeing the new shed as it looks so nice. Hope you have a drier week.
Terri, sounds like you accomplished a lot. Glad the shower turned out well----what a jerk! Maybe he will learn something with the baby but doubtful. Must have been a spoiled brat as a kid. Was he an only child? Or the baby? You have gotten a lot canned and preserved. Steve will have to build something on the new cabin to house all that stuff once you move---LOL Glad you took a breather and just visited while at the ranch. Bummer that the guy never showed up and bummer that the system is acting up.
No, the Christmas stuff was on the back deck in a corner, not in the front yard. On the front porch is a tool box that is 3 feet tall with all the little things they need---that will be moved to the shed sometime this week. Michael will come over and start moving stuff up from the basement so that Dh can organize his shed---nothing but holiday stuff will go in there. I haven't even put up any fall decor because no one has brought it up even though I asked so I doubt I will get anything up this year---would like my wreath though. I have thought about finding someone who does woodwork but it won't be cheap----none of that stuff ever is around here---but artesans should be paid well for their talents.
Yes, back to work---but have off Wednesday for Dh's back injection. Glad to have that day off. Sure hope the teacher plans on teaching today.

Betsy, you're right that even a caged pet has to be listed if it lives on the premises. It would be the same even if it was a tank of fish! I'm glad the "extra" cat was a misunderstanding, but R needs to be forthcoming and not secretive about her PETS, which is what I'm certain was on the application/contract, ie: "Number and type of PETS"

We did make it out to the ranch and Lily went riding with Blaine for a couple of hours. Steve and Adam worked on something and then there was another glitch with the power plant. The owner never showed up with the parts, so I don't know what they're going to do. There was a power surge that fried the inverter in their trailer while they were gone at the shower yesterday, so now nothing works in there and a new inverter is going to be very expensive.. Sarah had been telling Adam about how funny it was acting, but he didn't believe it--and they also thought Steve had adjusted something that changed things (he hadn't)--but it's still a mystery. I ended up just visiting with Sarah and never got anything done in the cabin.

While I was driving home from the coast tonight, I got a message from Steve to let me know that he'd made it back to camp, so everyone is safely to their destinations and in for the night. I'm not sure what I'll get into tomorrow, but I do have more apples to deal and some empty dehydrators. I could have/should have filled them today, but didn't and I'm not going to do it now. I'm going to sign off here, kick my shoes off and watch a Netflix while I knit a dress for my new great granddaughter.

Hi, it has been crazy busy here all weekend and that included a surprise visit from DD1, hurray! I know she lives closer now but this is the first time she just showed up and we loved it.

Our weekend:

* Corrected DH's medication dose again...what would he do without me?
* Farmers Market
* Took JB to the Dairy farm for fall fun
* Treated JB to Chili's for lunch, he loves the chips and salsa
* Played Mexican Train Dominoes with JB and DD1
* Treated JB and DD1 to soft serve treats at a place that closes for the season this weekend.
* Collapsed on the couch with DH and watched Netflix

Sunday

* Mass
* Attempted breakfast at multiple restaurants before we found one that wasn't packed
( UWSP Homecoming )
* Created Wal Mart list
* Big Wal Mart trip buying many doubles to supply our house and to get DD2 started out in her apartment
* Drove WAY out in the country to pick up a white noise machine I bought on the resale site but the people weren't home, sigh
* Took Wal Mart items home and scanned them, separating ours and DD2's as we went
*** Learned from DD2 it was all a misunderstanding and there is only ONE cat, hurray! Informed her they still need to notify landlord about guinea pig or we will. Her friend told her it doesn't matter because it is in a cage, we disagreed.
* Took DD2 to Target so she could buy some things and I could buy some Meyer's cleaning products, again some for her and some for us.
* While at Target, DH called and asked me to buy carrots so...
* Grocery store was the next stop on the other side of town. The deli worker was new so it took forever to get DH's lunch meat for the week.
* Home again, scanned everything.
* Another trip to another section of town to pick up some books I purchased from the resale site, they were there, hurray!
* Dropped our car off at our mechanic's place for an oil change tomorrow.
* Wrote out birthday cards for relatives and got them USPS ready.
* Dried the sheets I forgot to mention I washed earlier and got ours back on.
* Dinner was at 8 PM, yikes! DH made a delicious roast with mashed potatoes, carrots, onions and celery.
* I remembered we had a lot of pulled pork left from last Sunday so I split it up into five containers and froze all of it so we can thaw enough for one meal at a time.
* DH said he needed darks for tomorrow so I got those ready and washed them
*Posted my lack of tracking and measuring on the 5 % team and came here.
* Remind me to tell you my pork roast story from last weekend, it is fairly comical but right now I need to check the dryer and get away from this bright light so I can sleep.

emoticon

Dianne, I read this article on dementia research in Canada - you might want to look at it, but it did list socializing as an approach to combatting this as well as "singing in a choir", so getting Bob to sing with you might not be a such a bad idea !

Oh my Terri, you certainly have been busy !!! Whirlwindish !! I am thinking that Anna's bf needs a visit to the back shed for a good talking to. If he needs to be that kind of centre of attention, and was mad that there was no gift for him, what or how is he going to react to a crying baby day and night ? OH MY !! Course then it could be the eye opener Anna needs, good for you for supporting her. What happened with the other grand daughter and her baby ? You have not mentioned her much that I can recall...

Dianne, hope the crop walk went well for you - did the girls run in Windsor or Toronto ? I think Toronto had a marathon going on today but was not sure about Windsor, and if it was Toronto, I hope they found a way to get there other then that treterous 401 hiway ! Hope they did well in that marathon and they were happy with the results. It's really hard to be with people who are forget ful and can't remember things. I am trying to think of something I read about altimers that they are using, I'll have to search the news again for that article - but singing would be good.

Anne, I am sure this colonoscopy is just round 1 for me but I would rather it be the ONLY one ! The meeting was awesome, enjoyed very much thanks for asking !! What did you wind up doing today to relax ?

Cathy, isn't there a wood working class at your school that could make that sign for you ? I am not surprised you would want a sign like that LOL Howard organizing it and keeping it that way will be good for him too ... I hope you had a relaxing day today, are you back to work tomorrow ?

Betsy, hope your weekend has been relaxing as well and you were able to discuss things with K - How is the bronchitis for DH, is it better with the antebiotics, I had no idea that once you have it it can have a repeat performance ...

Mare hope all is well with you too.

Well my day started out fairly good - then I over fed the cat and he barfed and I stepped in it spreading it onto the kitchen floor - that will teach me not to over feed - I had to clean it up AND clean off the bottom of my shoes, just waiting for them to dry LOL

Glad you liked the colours with all this grey skies and rain, its been cheering up to see them for me too !

Terri, you have been busy! Glad Anna was happy with the shower. I do not understand the need for alcohol at events! It seems like if there is no alcohol available the time would be considered a bust. So not true! Hopefully he will grow up! Prayers for all 3 of them! Hopefully the parts will get the power plant up and running! Fingers crossed he takes stuff back with him!

I am on my phone and was going to post a picture of my fire, but adding an image is not an option. Will post later.

Anne

Good morning- I'm going to try to type fast and stay on track so I can actually finish a post in one sitting. I have a lot going on today and this is a small window of time.

Congrats on Howard's new shed, Cathy! He's going to put lots of outside decor in it, right? Is all that stuff in the basement right now? That will be a chore for him if it is, but you're right at the change of seasons, so maybe he'll take down the Fall decor and put it into the shed and bring up the winter/Christmas stuff and empty the basement slowly? The hardest part of having a shed is keeping it organized. That should be easier if he's the only one using it, though. Maybe not, however--Steve's shop is a mess and I really hate sharing my basement with him and his construction supplies. That's the way it has to be for now, but whenever I have canned food to put on the shelves, I try to have him do it so that he can see what a pain it is to try to get to my shelves with all his lumber and table saw in the way. Hopefully, Howard's shed will not turn into a Winter "Wonder" Land, where you have to "wonder" where things are! LOL

Anne, I suspect that your next colonoscopy is sooner than expected because they found the polyp. Even if it isn't compromised, it IS a hazard and something they'll want to watch. If you're making polyps, they can become diseased quickly and you wouldn't want to find out about it too late.

Betsy, I know this is a sort of delicate situation with K and R, but I would strongly impress upon K that this will affect her reputation as a tenant if she doesn't speak up and be honest. I don't care how "strong" a personality the roommate has, a lie is a lie and K put her signature on the agreement. If R insists on bringing the whole menagerie, she needs to ASK the landlord and see if they will take an increased deposit from her--and if they say "no" then she needs to leave them behind. I know that you have raised your kids to believe that integrity means something, so this is not a inconsequential thing. This is EXACTLY why landlords charge high rents and ask for huge security deposits! I know. I've been a landlord and had some tenants just like R who look you in the eye and lie through their teeth. If they don't care enough about being honest and having integrity to tell the truth on an application/agreement, they aren't going to care much about taking care of rented property and will not treat it well. Then, when the landlord drops the hammer on them for the lie or violating the contract, they act as though he's being a jerk and completely unfair. It's a sad thing for K, but the way she proceeds now will set her on a path for the future and she needs to decide whether or not she's going to stand for what is right or be a pushover. Tell her that if she insists the R does the right thing, she will actually be doing her friend a favor in the long run.

Happy Crop Walk day, Dianne. I'm sorry I didn't get to the donation site sooner, but you know how busy life has been around here. I hope you'll post the link for me so I can support your walk again. I like Anne's idea of singing with Bob. I think that's been shown to be a good thing for Alzheimer patients because the music is planted in their brains in such a way that they can "access" it.

The baby shower was fine and there was a good turnout. Anna was happy to have everyone there and is looking forward to nesting. None of the family is happy with the situation because of who she's with, but she is committed to staying with him so we will support HER. He's a big child who doesn't tolerate not being the center of attention or being the most important person in the room. He is self-centered and selfish, arrogant, and petulant when things don't go his way. Have I discredited him enough? I do have hope--there's always hope--but clearly this young man wasn't raised with the kind of values we raised our kids with. It makes me think of Dianne's BIL. They wanted to have a baby shower that included the men but then, when they were opening gifts I heard him say, "Why am I helping to open these? There's nothing here for me" Seriously! He had told Anna to tell Mary (the hostess) that they wanted to have some champagne for a toast at the shower. Mary said she wasn't old enough to buy alcohol and that it was inappropriate for a baby shower anyway. So...while we are looking forward to this new precious bundle and will help Anna and support HER, we are not hopeful for the relationship or the situation that baby is coming into.

I never got a phone call saying our wood was ready--or even part of our order--so that didn't happen. I went up to Mary's to wait for the installer and took my knitting, so no time wasted there; however, he couldn't find a good satellite signal to connect them, so they still have no Internet. She'll have to go with another company uses a different satellite and has better line-of-sight in this area. I use the other company and am happy with our signal and service, so that's probably what they'll do. There is a third company in the area, but I'm not sure if they can offer the same bandwidth or what their rates are. Mary will check.

I was working on apples while cooking the chili for the shower and filled all three dehydrators and cooked a big pot of small apples for sauce. With the small apples, I just cook them with the skins on and then push them through a ricer (cone-shaped sieve). There's more waste, but it all goes to the pigs, so I don't care--I'll enjoy it in bacon later. On Friday night, I had the sauce made but decided to leave it to can later (I was BEAT by that time) and the next morning decided to turn it into apple butter because I didn't have room on my stove to can it right then with 2 huge pots of chili and all. I had to use the oven to bake two big lasagna pans of cornbread to go with the chili, so could put the apple butter in after that to cook down while we were gone. So I added a little sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger, put it into my turkey roaster and back into the oven while we went to the shower. When I got home, it was ready to put into jars and can it. I have a friend who says her neighbor wants to buy homemade jam and might be interested in buying some of mine. I'll take her a couple of jars to sample and might have a regular customer BESIDES my grandsons!

GD Lily heard that we were going out to the ranch today and wished aloud that she had a ride back to the coast so that she could spend the night here and go horseback riding at the ranch today. I offered to taxi her home this evening after Steve goes back to work/camp, so she stayed overnight. I don't know what I'll get done out there, but might work in the cabin and do some more cleaning. I hear that the former occupant is coming out to bring some parts for the power plant and should have his truck, so I'm hoping to be able to fill it up with more of his things and start organizing what he chooses to leave.

***So much for doing this in one sitting...I've been up and back twice already, made some Ravioli Soup for Steve to take back to camp and then decided to can it because it's such a huge batch. So now he'll be able to just take the jars and add ravioli one meal at a time. They don't have much room in their refrigerator in the trailer.

Mary Beth came by and asked if she could wash some laundry in my machine because they don't have one yet in their house (Jenny took the washer with her). I think she has a dryer, though. So, my morning has been productive (the kitchen is a lot cleaner than it has been all week), all my canning has been taken downstairs to the basement (by Steve!) and my counters are cleared off for the moment. I'm not going to try to do any apples this morning because we're still going out to the ranch.

Lindie, those colors are gorgeous! The lumber for the front steps won't be pre-treated when we buy it, but Steve will put a couple of coats of deck sealer on it after he builds them. It will be something that will have to be repeated every winter, but that's not horrible. People have to do this with their decks all the time. I would have preferred to have the steps covered with a roof, but it is not to be--and we aren't going to be living here that much longer anyway, Lord willing.

I've had a couple of fires in my wood cookstove, but haven't really needed one for warmth with all the cooking I've been doing. I lit one today, just to burn some papers and get rid of them. It's time to turn the canner off, so we can leave the house and go to the ranch. Better get out there or Lily won't have time to ride. See ya!

Good morning!

Lindie, hope you had a good meeting. Loved the pictures!

Dianne, glad you enjoyed the coffee! Congrats to the girls and the times! Good luck to them and you with today's hoofing of it! As long as you keep Bob's dementia in the front of your mind I think you'll continue to be patient and understanding with him. Thanks for the short lessons explanation. Duh to the schools for not being timely!

Cathy, too funny that you still had Christmas stuff out front! Why didn't you leave it there...it is almost time to put it back up! Sure hope the foundation holds up well in the weather! Hopefully the company that set it up took the weather into consideration. Enjoy your book!

Betsy, did K come to a decision on what she is going to do about the roommate? It is hard to be tough with a friend!

Terri, how was the shower? Did Steve come home at all this weekend?

I have been trying to figure out when I am free long enough to go visit with the kids. My oldest had hoped for a Thanksgiving visit. However, I am looking at my hospitality time with ChristLife, doctor appointments, my boss' fair and its setup, and church season changes, as well as Christmas decorating and it looks like some time between 11/6 and 11/17 or 12/25 and after. I hope she isn't too disappointed. I have to be honest, I did not want to travel around Thanksgiving. I only have a couple of days available, but if I wait til Christmas or thereafter, I will have next year's vacation time to tap into.
We went to the 4:00 yesterday and had a quiet evening basically watching stupid TV. I think I was asleep by 9:00! I only got up once during the night for a bathroom run. I forgot to take my BP med's Friday and Saturday. I wanted to change it back to the morning after the colonoscopy and just kept forgetting to take it. It is now on my kitchen counter near where I sit with my morning coffee...so I shouldn't forget it! I am hoping that taking it first thing in the morning will make it so I do not have so many trips to the bathroom at night.
It is cloudy and only going up to the mid-50*'s today. I think I may try and motivate J to do some yard clean up...burn some brush in the fire pit. We have not used it all summer/fall and I would love a fire! The chill and lack of wind today are perfect to have one! Fingers crossed!

Have a great Sunday!

Anne

Morning! We are off to church soon--hubby took me to get a wonderful cup of french vanilla coffee this AM--he is a wonderful hubby! LOL Doesn't take much to make me happy!

Cathy--I hope we don't get the rain--I am to walk/run in the CROP Walk today and I really don't want to get wet. Given that I still have the little cough, I may bag the 5 miles and just do some (Hope you won't mind, Betsy!). I expect you can find a sign--or someone who could wood burn a sign for you for not too much $$.

My DD1 and DD3 are in Canada right now doing their half marathon. DD1 has a watch that transmits where she is so we can see their progress. I expect it is chilly there today! I may stop over at the home this afternoon to see Bob--didn't go Fri or yesterday. I do need to watch out that he doesn't wear me down! But he really can't help it--he is in dementia land lots of the time.

Time to get moving!

Anne, it's because he found a polyp that it will be sooner than 10 years---not something to look forward to---do you have a family history of issues in the colon? Glad it is over with. I don't know if I could do that prep---I had a hard time when pregnant when I had to drink nasty stuff for a test. I almost didn't get it all down and they were mad at me. Hope you found something nice to do.
Lindie, love the pictures. We still had some wire Christmas stuff outside, so I moved it back to the shed---Howard worked on making it assessible--the crush and run was very high in the front to level the ground it was sitting on. Right now it is pretty good but we will see what the rain does to it today. We put those items in the shed so it is officially the Christmas shed. I told him I was going to get him a sign that said Santa's workshop on it---so I will be looking for something on that line for him. Would love to find a sign that says Winter Wonderland or something similar.
Dianne, I just wonder about the caliber of the people coming into the teaching profession---they don't seem to have much sense. Congrats to the girls. Good idea to back off from Bob as his attitude can really bring you down.
Someone mentioned that Betsy's dh has bronchitis a lot---but once you start getting that, it often leads to having it again and again---it seems to weaken one's immunity. We had a guidance secretary and a teacher that often ended up in the hospital because they had it so many times. Luckily he hasnt gotten that far along with it.
Just did the memorial service and then came home and helped dh some with the steps to the shed. Going to be a rainy day so it will be a good day to read and relax,
