Safe travels, Cathy!

Terri, glad Steve got the GFI outlet taken care of and you have power on that counter. Hope he was able to get much accomplished on the porch. Sounds like seeing is moving along.

Dianne, how sad that Bob is having those hallucinations. Are the Niacin flashes decreasing at all or will they? Why did the kids have this past week off? Seems like they have a lot of time off during November! Will they also have a week or more in December?

Betsy, I agree with Cathy...if there is already mold there dampness and/or water has been there a while. Booooo! Yuck!

When I got home from work, I had been doing some fix it things, hard work, and cooking so he opted for Mass today. I was happy with that because I let Calgon take me away, lol! No after Mass plans, except make and freeze meatballs. I need to get ready for church.

Have a blessed Sunday!

Anne

Betsy, with mold already, thinking it wasn't caused by the tree. What a mess! If you don't pick up prescription, they can't charge you for it. Hope you can get it fixed quickly.
Dianne, you have been busy.
Anne, hope you figure out travel plans.
Terri, that sounds scary.
Dh did most of the driving and slept when I was driving. Should be home in the late afternoon.

Oh Betsy! What a mess and you ARE ready for some good news for a change! I'm glad you found the mold while it's still fairly early and no one has gotten sick, but I'm so sorry you have to deal with all of this. Here I am feeling sorry for myself for all we have to do around here to get this house on the market, but at least Steve can do it--when he has time, that is. Is this from a leaky water pipe or is it coming in under the wall? Is it from the damage caused by the tree falling on the house?

Cathy, I hope you were able to enjoy everything on your itinerary. Dom will remember this trip, for sure. I still feel badly that you couldn't take Reagann, but there's no use holding a grudge because it would only cause you grief in the long run.

If you keep up the niacin regimen, Dianne, it will be interesting to see what your next blood panel shows. Too funny about Bob wondering about dh "letting" his wife visit another man. He's definitely Old School! Too bad about his hallucinations, though.

Steve had to take his physical for the DMV Medical Certificate that's required for his commercial driver's license yesterday and passed easily. Then today, the boss called to say that his name had been drawn for the random drug testing that's required by law--so he'll go and have that done tomorrow while we're on the coast. We're going to go bowling with a bunch of grands, as we were invited to adopted gd's birthday party. We haven't been bowling in years, but always enjoy it when we do. We'll go early enough to pick up a few groceries while there, so I don't have to make another trip later.

One of the GFI outlets next to the kitchen sink failed last week and caused that whole side of the counter to be dead. Fortunately, Steve had another GFI plug left over from another project, and was able to fix it this afternoon. He also took measurements to replace the cover on our whole house fan and ordered it online and made good use of the new Dyson cordless vacuum that arrived yesterday. He's going to work on the front porch for a while in the morning, so that will be progress and not just maintenance. He'll have some time before going back to camp on Monday, too.

I finished the two robes I'd started and am working on another now. Then starting on the flannel shirts and a couple of small things for the Boutique. Having a wonderful weekend with my prince. It's getting more difficult to say goodbye when he leaves for the week, but we're coping. He said that the slide they're cleaning up has been "moving" a little bit and there's a significant crack at the top. It will eventually break away and slide at that crack, so they'll pull out when it starts to rain--or when the slide shows too much movement. They've already hauled away lots of material and have built a shelf to catch some that may come down in the future, but they are far from finished and will keep at it for as long as weather and geology allow.

Hi! I have been busy--got to the YMCA both Fri and Sat. MEt with a friend yesterday, visited Bob, went out with hubby in the evening. Today did some church stuff, laundry and cooking--friends coming for dinner.

Bob unhooked his stereo because he was hallucinating and thought the wires were stuck into his mom. Hubby came and fixed it—they do talk but Bob can’t imagine that a married man would let his wife visit another man.

The aspirin is supposed to help. I have decided that I will just push through the flush—but I do try to do it ONLY at home! I look like I am sunburned!

Cathy—sorry it was so hot and crowded—many NJ kids have no school this past week—and no one has school Thursday or Friday so Disney World has “NJ Week”.

Betsy, hubby still has 2 drops a day—it will be nice when he is DONE! Glad the cataract surgery is off for now. If there is one there, it will grown but later is okay! Oh, Betsy—the drops and then the water!! You DH is a dear but really?? Just reorder the $$ drops? I do hope you could stop it. And the wet—oh, no. Sounds like a major mess. I am sorry you don’t have a handy person in the household—sure saves me $$.

Terri—you would be so BORED if you didn’t have your family around! Gotta love the techie dad who could make the printer work. Yes, the ones who set up the new software should ALWAYS have to come and deal with the users for the first 2 weeks. THAT would make it much better! Good for getting the measurements! I did see the jars on FB. Do you have the recipe to share with us? Shipping would be too $$.

Ann--good luck with the dilemma. Flying isn't cheap but when we weighed the trip at $1 per mile (wear and tear, etc) plus the hotel each way, flying and renting a car won. I hope you can manage to get J to see your side.

Lindie--my sister is a pharmacist and says I need to get up to 1000mg niacin a day. I am half way there right now. I will keep at it--slowly building up a tolerance. The flush doesn't hurt anything. Hope Amigo likes his new bowl.

Going to go watch my Badgers play football!

Betsy, what a story! Prayers that the fix won't be too costly. Also, throw some bleach on that mold! Any idea where the water was coming in from?

Cathy, safe travels back! Hope DH doesn't "back seat drive" too much this time!

I can not just make the travel plans...we both need to request the time off. He wants to drive and the week before Christmas. I want to fly...Christmas Day and return New Years Day or Eve...then take the rest of that week off at home relaxing, lol!
I did sleep quite well last night. I woke early and just relaxed re-watching a movie. J, Rich, and I went to breakfast and then J and I went to BJ's Warehouse store and spent $270...got a lot of meat, $10 worth of coffee cups for the church, a pair of jeans for me, and some fruit and vegetables. We actually felt like we walked out with a lot for the money. Finishing up at work, then going home to put one of those steaks on the grill for dinner! I would like to go to the 4:00 Mass, but am thinking that will mess with cooking the steak on the grill. If J wants to go, though, I will. However, I am just as content going to the 9:00 tomorrow at the next town over's church.

Have a great rest of your Saturday!

Anne

Never A Dull Moment

Once upon a time there was a family who dealt with all of the usual things life brings and even though they had some curveballs thrown at them, they managed to make it through. As their youngest child was getting ready to move out on her own, the husband and father had the beginning surgery to correct an eye problem he had been dealing with since August. The surgery went well but one day later, a tree fell on their house! The landscapers next door apologized profusely as it was their fault and said they would fix the damage to the siding, roof and gutters. That took a while and is actually still underway but the family is hoping it will be completed before more snow falls. Six days after the eye surgery, the husband had an appointment with another eye surgeon and wound up getting an injection into the surgical eye. The redness was supposed to go away after 24 hours but five days have passed and it is still there. On Wednesday, the husband came home from work looking like he was about to tell her someone had died but it wasn't that type of news. He was supposed to have put three different prescriptions drops into his eye at lunchtime but he couldn't find his pouch containing them so he assumed he left it at home. Instead of checking in with his wife, he went about his business at school and when he went to his car to leave, he found the pouch on the ground, lying in the snow! The drops are supposed to be at room temperature so he didn't put them in and came home to tell his wife. She had been dealing with hip and back issues and needed to leave for her own appointment ( with their shared car) the minute he got home. She put his needs first and called the pharmacy to see if he could still use the drops. Of course, she was put on hold so she handed the phone to him and left. Upon her return, she discovered that he had ordered all three very expensive drops again even though he would only need two of them for one more day and without considering if insurance would pay for them. He also told the wife that the pharmacist thought the ones he had would be OK. Once the wife heard that, she got right on the phone and told them to stop that order! The couple held their breath and prayed all would be well before they put the drops in that should have gone in at noon and went about their evening. I am not kidding when I say the man said," When are we ever going to catch a break?!?" The next day the man discovered a light was out in the kitchen so he went downstairs to get a special light bulb he had placed in the storage area right next to his wife's day care. He came upstairs to kiss her goodbye after replacing the bulb and said there was a little wetness on the floor "under the boxes in the storage area." The wife was really tired so she didn't think anything of it and went about her day. When the man got home he told her he thought the wetness was from a short period of time that the house was without gutters. The woman spent the night thinking about how she was going to tell the landscapers that there were more problems and how on earth were they going to pay for them. You see, she knew that the boss of the little company was very young, had little money and recently had a premature baby. That night she took a look in the storage area and thought she had better get someone to take a look and see what needed to be done. On Friday morning, a day care parent who has rebuilt houses from the inside took a look and guided the woman to where she should look. There was standing water for several feet along the side wall of the storage area and along the back wall that happens to join with the day care bathroom. The parent said they needed to look in there and with a six month old baby in her arms, that woman who isn't as young as he used to be, got down on the floor and pulled all of her paint shirts and craft items out from their storage place under the sink. She was horrified to discover...black mold growing! The man was already late for work or he would have stayed and investigated a little more but told her she would need a new vanity and there was probably a leak behind the sink. Later that day, the woman noticed the floor bubbling up around the vanity so she thinks she needs to replace that as well. The woman and her husband are not good with home repairs but they have a friend coming over later today who is and they are hopeful that he can get them started in the right direction. More to come...

Betsy, it's not part of Disney World. It was about an hour away. We all really enjoyed it. It wasn't super crowded, easier to get into, lots of shade trees, and marvelous Lego creations. Dom finally went on some rides. He is a very young 7. I loved looking at all the creations.
Anne, hope you figure out travel plans.
Terri, lots going on. Silly me forgot to pack tops for myself in travel bag and had to do some laundry here at timeshare.
It was really raining here but sounds like it has lessened. We have lots of small bags to load up today before we hit the road.

Anne, maybe you should just make the travel plan and let J deal with it. Thanks for the extra prayers for DH and his eye. A weekend of relaxation would be nice but I am not quite sure when that will be, definitely not this weekend. I hope you slept better than last night ( I am sure you will see this tomorrow.)

Terri, hurray for the long weekend for Steve. LOL to not telling us your plans, you were definitely busy as always.

Your story will arrive tomorrow, after we figure out what we need to do first.

Terri, how sweet that almost all the grands were available for measuring yesterday! Hope you can catch the others real soon (as you expect). Smart thinking to make that appointment for Steve so that he can be home a tad longer! Enjoy Steve time. Yay to having a tech-y available to help with all the snafu's that printing labels caused! Hope the 4-H fundraiser goes well!

Betsy, glad DH has to use less drops and woo-hoo to not needing the cataract surgery on the other eye! Prayers for continued healing and maybe some better patient cooperation, lol! Hope you were ready when the kids got there, lol! Yes, to a weekend of relaxation for all!

Cathy, it seems like such a fast week for you! Lol to everyone getting grouchy...yes, long lines, standing, and lots of people can get people grouchy! Hope everyone had a good time despite the grouchies! Legoland sounds like a lot of fun! I think my T's family has been...if not, they should...her dh and Griffin are big time Lego-ers! Safe travels home for everyone!

Hi Dianne & Lindie!

I am so very glad it is Friday. The music was good, but not as good as usual. I did end up falling asleep very quickly last night and managed to stay asleep until about 3:45. Then nature called and I went to the sofa and turned on Star Trek for 15 minutes. I dozed and woke and dozed and woke and then J's alarm went off at 5:00. I got up about 5:15. I am looking forward to getting finished here at the gas station...though I still have about an hour's worth of work. I really hate working Friday nights or maybe I hate not working Saturday mornings, lol! If I worked Saturday mornings I could do what I do when I want to get the heck out of here...save some of the paperwork for the morning. I can't do that on Friday nights because my boss does the Saturday morning shift.

We have no plans for the weekend...just need to make a "go down South" plan...I keep avoiding it because J and I have such a different idea about it. Grrrr! However, the kids want to make plans around our plans.

Have a good Friday night!

Anne

Instead of telling you what I HOPE to accomplish today, I'll just tell you what I've already done and how yesterday went. I'm not superstitious, but why jinx it, right? emoticon emoticon emoticon

The local 4-H club, of which DIL Sarah is the leader, is doing a fundraiser at a local crafters' event called One Fall Day. The venue is a very old, local church just down the hill from our house and the club had permission to use it for a work party to assemble their Friendship Soup (layered in a jar--and delicious!), make posters for their sale, and assemble a pile of hydroculators (bags of rice that can be heated in the microwave or kept in the freezer for hot or cold packs). Sarah scored a pile of fabric remnants from several sources to make the bags, and bought a 50 lb. bag of rice to fill them. Because the work party was from 4:00 to 6-ish, she made a Terri-sized pot of chili. Having used dry beans, she was afraid that they weren't done enough by the time she had to leave to get to the church and had intended to continue to cook them in the church's kitchen. However, when she got there, she found that the kitchen was being renovated and had no stove! So, she had to drive to get a cell signal and call me for help. As it turned out, the heat of the chili had continued cooking those beans and we decided that they were fine.

From there, I went to town (locally) and dropped off several items that I'd taken out of my pantry and a couple of other things (a Bissell rug shampooer, the old Dyson that still works, but is getting tired, a Cuisinart popcorn popper that I never use, and a box full of misc. items), dropped off a return pkg at the UPS pickup place, went to the grocery store to buy baguettes to go with the chili, and stopped at the post office to mail my property taxes. When I got back to the church, I overheard Jennifer telling Sarah that she wished they had more canning funnels for filling the jars because they only had the one she'd brought. The rest of the club wasn't there yet, so I ran up to the house and grabbed my 3 funnels and my tape measure and Christmas notebook (where I record the kids' measurements for pjs) and brought them down. By then the rest of the club had arrived and they were setting up their work stations and soup assembly line. I "stole" my grands and adopted grands (Jennifer's kids) one at a time, and measured them. That was something I hadn't expected to be able to do, but I'm glad I thought of it because it was pretty darned convenient. I got all the younger kids except for Jasmine and the youngest gs in Chicago. None of the high school kids were there yet.

Sarah told me that another leader had forgotten to print the recipe tags to tie onto the soup jars and asked if I had any card stock and ink in my printer. I told her no to the card stock and yes to the ink, so she sent one of the dads to my house to print the tags on regular paper since that's all I had. When I went to get more paper for the printer to be sure we'd have enough, I found a package of card stock after all. I don't know when or why I bought it, but was glad I found it! I had just bought new ink, so we had to replace the empty cartridges, then run some test sheets, then my printer was cantankerous, then it didn't want to communicate with his laptop, so he emailed me the PDF of the tags and I printed them from my PC--all taking more than an hour, and then my printer got hot and shut down on the last 4 pages and we had to wait a few minutes to finish--but we got them done and I was happy that he was a tech-y guy and knew how to maneuver through all the obstacles because I wouldn't have been able to. I told him that I would've thrown the stupid printer off the porch by that time if he hadn't been there.

Soon after he left, Mary Beth showed up to spend the evening decompressing with me. The credit union where she works has just installed a completely new system upgrade and it has thrown the entire system into a nightmarish state of confusion. People's accounts are all messed up, names are changed, mystery transactions showing up, and lots more. She said that her coworkers are completely stressed out, not sleeping at night, having to deal with customers who come in SCREAMING and CURSING at them because of these glitches. She said she almost had to call the police at one point because of the threats being made. I had messaged her earlier and told her to come over after work if she wanted and I'd give her an adult beverage. She took me up on the offer and brought her own bottle! LOL So we both enjoyed a "spiked" frozen peppermint mocha and she told me what a mess this whole "upgrade" has turned into. I told her it sounded just like the rollout of Obamacare a few years ago and was sorry that none of the people who thought this was such a good idea are facing the customers who have been affected by it.

Not long after Mary arrived, DS1 showed up with his 4H-ers with boxes and boxes of the filled soup jars, looking for temporary storage. They'll be selling them on Saturday and Sarah had to go grocery shopping and didn't have room for them in her car. So, since I'm close to the venue, they are in my basement. He came up with the kids and shared some of our mocha and I measured his two high schoolers for Christmas. So now I only have Jenny's kids to measure and should be able to get them this weekend.

Of course, by now the entire day was shot and I still hadn't been upstairs or sewed a single stitch. As for today, I've stripped my bed and the guest bed and have the sheets in the washing machine so everything will be fresh when Steve gets home today and ready for anyone who might want to sleep over in the future. Then I have one more load to go in and I'll have all my laundry out of the way before he brings his home. I have to go down to the credit union and get some help fixing some mistakes in MY account. Mary looked at them last night and said I'd have to see a manager because it was more than a teller could fix--so I'll do that as soon as I'm off here. Steve is coming home early today because he has to have a physical exam to maintain his commercial driver's license before his next birthday and I scheduled in on a Friday afternoon so he could "stretch" his weekend. It ended up being even better because he'll have Monday off for Veteran's day, too! Yippee!

That's it for now. I'm not going share any more plans because if I do, they'll change!

Cathy, I was unaware there was a Legoland in Disney World but I have very fond memories of the one in Denmark. I was there on an early childhood study abroad tour and as future purchasers of classroom toys, we were treated like royalty. Was The Magic Kingdom brutal because it was crowded? I am glad your meal was enjoyable and that you like your time share digs. Have a safe drive home.

Dianne, our kids should all be here for Thanksgiving but it is still the first one in our lives as empty nesters, it makes their visits all the sweeter as you well know. DD2 had her first meal at her new place last night and tomorrow will be her first night there, hope it goes well.

Lindie, you have a cat, what's up with the doggie walk? I like broccoli crowns best as well.DD2 was over the moon about how well her speech went and really enjoyed all of the attention. She even brought some people to tears.

Terri, I have been getting sucked into the Word Cookies game on my phone so I understand that cyber vortex you're talking about. You have me sold on the Dyson but I still want a Roomba too.

Anne, I hope you got some much needed rest and that the band was worth your loss of sleep. Here's to a restful weekend for all of us! The patient is stubborn and his injection site is still irritated, thanks for asking. He was able to start using less drops today and he is very happy about that. He saw the cataract doctor yesterday and unless the need arises, they have agreed he does not need cataract surgery on the right eye, hurray!

I still have to get the day care heat on, fix hair, eat breakfast, get bibs out of the dryer and more so I have to go. I may come back and tell you a story later.

Have a fabulous Friday!

I have a Shark and really like it. Hope the Dyson works out.
Magic Kingdom was brutal and we were all tired and grouchy. But our meal was lovely, then we headed back to the resort. Timeshare is nice and spacious. Legoland today and drop them off at the airport. We leave tomorrow for home.

Hi all!
Lindie, glad you cholesterol levels were good and that the doctor was surprised, lol! Hope Amigo enjoys his new bowl. How annoying that the broccoli was labelled as crowns...I would have been perturbed, too, though I probably would have used some of the stems, lol! Booooo! to sour mandarins...I thought they were supposed to be sweet!

Terri, sorry you were sucked into the computer vortex, then pulled away by other things. I hope you like the Dyson. It would be nice if you are able to get some sewing done...funny how best laid plans can go awry!

Dianne, so nice that you had a good visit with Bob and that your DH could help him with his system. I wonder if putting labels won the wires and on the components would be helpful should he take it apart in the future! How many more trips to the park?

Cathy, it sounds like you all are having a great time!

Betsy, how's the patient doing? How's K doing with the move? Sorry the fix-it to the tree damage is slow moving...hope they'll have it done soon! How much snow did you get?

I just got back in from dinner with J, Rich, and Rich's wife at the place where they play Bluegrass music. It was nice to go out, but I am very tired and was thinking a few times that going out may not have been a good idea since I was struggling to make conversation. We all left before the group finished playing, but probably only 15 minutes before their last song. I found out that I wasn't the only one who was exhausted, lol! Rectory and gas station work are fine...my October spreadsheets are finished. However, I do need to transfer the totals to the annual spreadsheets and start up the November one. Maybe tomorrow, lol! Heading to bed.

Have a good night!

Anne

Good afternoon folks, I am waiting for my fitbit to charge then I have to go prep food for a beef stirfry - was going to do beef and broccoli but the so called crowns at safeway had long stems, sorry that is not a crown - I know I could have used the stems too but I wanted the florrets more - anyway I did pick up mushrooms, and some been sprouts- already have some mini green pepper I can throw in to as it is starting to get soft so best use it all today. I picked up some California mandrins - oh my they were so sour I could not eat the one I peeled, hope they are not all like that - sour I can not handle ... Then I stopped at the dollar store and bought a new food dish for the cat - glass one - he will get used to it I am sure -and got some kleenex with aloe as it is that season now. My back is really bothering me so the rest might help - it was a good walk but too long.

Terri, we have that kind of dyson at the Kingdom Hall I go to - its so easy to use on floors and carpets - and it does detach too - we use Gene's hand held on the furniture when needed. I do the same when I am looking to purchase something - I always look at the comments but not just in the store ratings as those could be done by emplyees but I also google to get more - Hope you get everything done that you need to - maybe you need to go dnd -do not disturb lol

Dianne glad you had a good visit with Bob, why did he disconnect his sterio ? Did he remember why or is he going through phases, does he talk to your dh when he goes ? Maybe that was why ... hmmm I never took anything for my cholesteral - I just used diet - and that was good enough - both bad and good cholesterol were both ok which surprised the doctor as he expected it not to be. Heat flushes is something I get from food though - chicken, beef, hot coffee - not fun ! But they pass quick enough ... hope the niacin helps. I don't quite understand taking an asprin though - asprin can cause issues with the stomach, which is why I stopped taking the asprin for thinning the blood - I only took it 3 x a week anyway ...

Well I pulled a Terri, got pulled away to go for a doggie walk - by choice and now I am here to continue LOL

Anne hope all is going ok at the rectory and the gas station - are you busy with the spread sheets ?

Cathy, next week will be cold in Florida, will you be home by then ? Sounds like you are having a fabulous time !

Betsy, I see things maybe topsy turvy for you - hang in there !

OK NOW I really gotta go cook up those green peppers !

Dianne, I'd make the same choice for dealing with the cholesterol. I do NOT want to start racking up prescriptions to take and will fight it all the way.

Yesterday didn't proceed as I'd planned. I don't know why I bother to tell anyone my plans because that seems the be the ONE constant in having them changed. If I never say anything, I can do what I want. Well, today I have to leave the house for a little bit and drop a damaged package at the UPS pickup place to be returned, so I'm hoping to just do that early and then lock myself away upstairs. We'll see.

I had a chuck roast thawed out yesterday and decided to make a pot of beef-barley soup with it. I'm going to have to store some of it somehow--probably freeze it--because it's a big pot of soup. It's delicious, though and I kept snacking on it through the afternoon and evening. Steve will enjoy it this weekend.

I was able to tell Steve what the generator guy did because he'd written down on his invoice. All he did was make some adjustments and Steve was thrilled that it only cost us $150! I hope this takes care of things with this generator for a while.

I ordered a Dyson cordless vacuum yesterday. That's what sucked me down the cyber-vortex as I researched and read lots of reviews and customer comments on the different brands and models. We've had a Dyson for years and really been satisfied for the most part. If I only had carpet it would be perfect, as it's not easy to use on furniture. We have a cordless in the canyon and Steve really likes it. We have no carpet in that house and the head detaches for use on upholstery, or reach up for cobwebs. So...that's what I ordered. It will not clean this whole house in one charge, but will do fine--and when we move to the cabin, should be just the ticket. It should be here tomorrow, so we can give it a workout over the weekend.

****UGH! So this was started HOURS ago and I've been on the phone with a cousin who is having some family issues and needed someone to talk things through with. Then Sarah called and needs me to finish cooking a pot of chili that she started so it can be ready for their dinner while she meets with the 4H-ers to put together a fund raiser. I was just on my way out the door to run my errands, so will pick up her chili on my way back and HOPEFULLY get some sewing done before this day is over!

Morning! I had a good visit with Bob yesterday--my hubby stopped by to hook up his stereo again--he had unplugged everything and I wasn't confident in how to plug things back together.

Our weather is ok--going to be getting colder. I am planning to go visit DD2 in the Hudson River Valley on Sunday and stay over to Monday. She has her own tiny apartment and said she'll share her double bed so I don't have to haul something to sleep on. We will hit Kohls--I have Kohls Yes to You $$, a $10 gift card from some settlement, a $5 gift from Kohls, and a 30% off so we'll see what she can use!

Betsy--stay warm! I do hope DD2 is getting ready to move and that she has started her job. The kids won't come home for Thanksgiving?

Anne--sounds like you are keeping busy. I didn't sleep well last night so hope I can tonight.

Lindie--I am sorry your sister is having all these issues. Thank her again for the visit at the aquarium--that was special. I am working on the photo books for Christmas and have a few photos that the girls took there.

Terri--hopefully the generator guy will tell Steve what he did if Steve calls him. Glad he could get it fixed okay. You are sewing, I am doing the photo books but we both have deadlines!

Cathy--glad you are enjoying! I liked the Toy Story ride in Magic Kingdom even though I am a terrible shot! We didn't stay for the River of Light show either.

I am taking niacin for my cholesterol--my pharmacist sister recommended what to take and I am dealing with the flushing--glad I didn't have hot flashes like this for menopause! I hope that I get used to it and stop with the flashing soon. I look funny all red in the face and arms and neck and hands! But it has less side effects than the other medications so I will keep at it!

I am either too hot or too cold here. No Reagann but we have Dominic with us. He's 7. Really enjoyed Lion King show yesterday and the animals. We were going to do the River of Light show but it looked like rain and we wanted to pack up so we came back. Magic Kingdom today and change over to timeshare tonight.

Just flying by as I have my lunch... emoticon

I hope Cathy doesn't melt in that heat and humidity while the rest of us are getting cold, snow and rain. Well...not me, but the rest of ya'll. emoticon It's actually really nice here today and would be perfect for working outside if I wanted to.

I got 2 robes put together yesterday and only have the hem to finish on the 2nd one. I'm working on the other two that I have cut out today and hope to finish them both. I did get a few things put away in the sewing room to give myself more room to work and to have a bit of organization, but it's still a mess. I'll finish putting together what I have cut out before doing more--some for the boutique and some for Christmas. I have all those flannel shirts cut out for the boys, so those will start going together. I'm not using the treadle machine right now because I have electricity and the modern machine is faster to use and is upstairs where all of my sewing tools are. If I work with the treadle, I'll have to haul some things downstairs.

The man came to check out our generator this morning and got it running. He told me what it was and I tried to pay close attention so I could relay it to Steve, but I won't be able to. It was only $150 for the house call and well worth every penny. I hope this keeps things going now. He did say that it was an older generator and seems to have lots of hours on it. I'm not sure what's normal usage for these things, but I'm sure he's right.

Thanks for the feedback on the vacuum cleaners. I guess I wouldn't mind having a bag, but really do prefer not. I don't mind taking it outside to the back porch to dump the canisters. We have a Dyson now, but have worn it out. I like the way it comes apart so that you can wash the filters. Amazon.com has the Sharks and they looked good, so I'm happy to hear some good reports on them. Sarah has a Roomba (that she calls "Higgins") and she loves it because it keeps things picked up in between using her big vacuum. I need to sit down and order something soon, but am not going to do it today. Betsy, I like the idea of the central vacuum and we talked about having one when we built the house, but then opted out. We knew we could add it later if we wanted because there's plenty of room under the house. Now, the next owners can do that if they want.

We'll have Thanksgiving and Christmas here again this year. It may be bittersweet for the kids as they all know that it will probably be our last holiday together in the log house. But then, life brings change--right? I don't like change very much, or very often; however, when the time comes that it's the right thing to do, I can deal with it. I'll probably cook the bird again (one that we've raised on the ranch) and the rest of the family will all bring dishes to share.

I just got a FB msg from my SIL asking if everything's okay between us--am I mad at her or something--because my communications have been very short and not chatty. I need to send her an email and catch up a little bit. I didn't realize that I'd been leaving that impression. I've been super busy, but family relationships are important and need to be nurtured better than I've been doing, I guess. So, I'm off here for now to write a quick email and then, Lord willing, I'll be back upstairs for the rest of the day.

Good afternoon everyone, back home now after being out this morning. Beautiful sunny day but there was some frost for some folks - the rain is scheduled to arrive this weekend. Nothing planned this afternoon but exercises and bible study - sometimes that means watching a movie on JW.org or watching the videos for the kiddies - there is a series called Be Jehovah's Friend that I like to watch, its geared for children but I still like watching Caleb and Sophia learn bible principles. Plus there are articles on Young People Ask which I find to be good reading too.

Anne, my sister has what they call "inner" hemroids - non accessable so she will need to take medication for that but she has to go to her doctor for that. Her next appointment is with a cardiologist as her heart rate is too high and so is her blood pressure - may or may not be due to issues at work - she also has high blood sugar levels too - but 3 months ago these things did not exist as problematic so she is some what concerned. She gave me advise about the gunk I have to drink, told me to wear a depend, etc lol I just said ok, ok, ok ... I know she is not happy with the situation at work and has a plan of action for that. She may look for other work but won't know till next year - in the meantime she is sticking it out at the aquarium ... Glad you had a chance to get things done, sorry you missed your nap, hope things at the rectory went well.

Terri, can't recommend a vacuum, we have a miele ( made in Germany) love how it handles the pet hair, comes with bag, hepa filter, which I need to replace on mine and another filter - the only issue I have with it is it has a very short cord ! We also have a hand held Dyson - but Miele out vacuums every time LOL Hope you find one that works for you ok. How's the sewing going ? Are you using the older sewing machine ?

Dianne enjoy your time with your daughter - and hope your visit with Bob went ok. Did you make your bread or get the mailing done ?

Betsy, wow, why did your DH take such a chance? He is very fortunate that he was able to get home in one piece. I hope he does not do any damage either I know I would not like to be permanently blinded because I failed to follow direction - I know you will keep him in line after the other surgery ! Has DD2 moved yet ? How did her speach go ? ( Assuming you read this after she gave it) Yes do keep the snow I want none of it, will take rain any day , as you do NOT have to SHOVEL rain lol

So Cathy, so far you crashed the falcon, made a saber that is too too heavy, wanted to do in DH as he nattered about your driving - you know when my kids did not behave when I was driving - I made them get out and walk home, but I would be watching in the rear view mirror - they learnt quick not to fuss - course I know you can't do that with DH but you can pull over and ask him if he wants to stop or get out LOL Sorry, my bad !!! I am looking forward to the long version of all your adventure !! Did Reaghann go with you ?

Time for me to get off here and get those exercises done, my back was not happy by the time I got home at lunch... later !!

Dianne, lol about needing to put a tree up because the kids will be there! J wants a the little 4' tree every year since the kids left. It is in the corner and sometimes the lights go on and other times not. He often will decorate the bow window on the inside with lights...you can see them when driving down the street. How does DD2 like her place? Does she have a roommate or was she able to afford the apartment by herself? I forget, lol! Hope you have a good visit with Bob!

Betsy, sorry to hear that your DH had to have the shot and deal with the blindness. My J would have driven himself home, too. Glad his eye surgery appointment has been figured out...prayers that all will go according to plans and that it works for him! Sorry K's job ran into a snafu, but perhaps that was Divine Intervention so that she will be well prepared for her class and talk! Hope you don't have snow for Thanksgiving that will mess with your plans. You can keep the snow!

Cathy, it sounds like you are having a good time despite the weather issues! Sounds like you have had quite the Star Wars adventure! Interesting about making your own light saber! Does it light up? Hope everyone is having fun and that the weather will be more cooperative than what is forecasted!

Terri, you asked about vacuums...I, personally, do not like the bagless ones...the dumping of the dirt grosses me out, but I have to do it at home and at the rectory. I have the Shark stick vacuum which works well, but can not stand upright on it's own if the motor/bagless area are attached...very annoying to me! I have the Shark Navigator at the rectory and it has a number of attachments. I find them both very good when it comes to doing the vacuuming. My oldest has an iRoomba and loves it. I will not buy a Dyson...cost is way too much, same with the Kirby! I hope you were able to get yourself situated in the sewing room and accomplished much! Good luck with all the sewing you need/intend to do!

Lindie, how is your week going? I am not a McDonald's breakfast fan and we do not have any A & W's in my area. I also do not like Dunkin's breakfast sandwiches...nor their coffee and most of their donuts...needless to say Dunkin's despite being across from the gas station does not tempt me, lol! Very weird that the bus driver can talk with another bus driver passenger, but not a passenger. I wouldn't have a problem if they couldn't talk with anyone while driving...less distraction! How's your sister doing? Will you have to have the same prep?

I came home to lie down for a bit, but realized I needed to get some info off the computer, and thus, here I am, lol! Yes, the computer is like a black hole...it sucks you in! Now that I have printed off the information, read through all my emails, and chatted here I guess I can head to the rectory...wouldn't be a good idea for me to lie down now, I'd be worse off for it!

Have a good Wednesday (wish it were Friday, sorry Cathy)!

Cathy--that MUST be a heavy saber! I thought it was a "light" saber! (That is a Dad joke it is so bad!) Sorry the weather isn't great--could have used some of that heat last January.

We are getting cooler here--in the 30s the last few mornings. Betsy--I saw photos of the snow. You can keep it--but keep it away from my folks, too! Hope Dad doesn't decide he needs to plow it off the driveway. Your DH wins the "stubborn" contest--mine at least won't drive with the shots, etc. and will take a day off without much trouble. Schools out here are advertising $100 a day for subs. You might remember I thought about it--and then remembered how we acted for subs and decided no.

Terri--you got LOTS done! Once you get into sew mode, you will have everything finished by Christmas. My brother asked about what we want and I really don't know what to tell him--we don't need any stuff. So I have to think a bit more. Our Christmas rotation does mean that we have to talk to each other at least every 4 years to get Christmas ideas!

You asked about Thanksgiving. We will be going to our friends' home--with DD2. I will make bread, something with squash, something green and take pie and wine. She will do the rest. Friday we will likely go for a hike--no stores! I may get the tree up--the kids will be here this year so I will have to put one up. DD2 will head home by early afternoon on Sunday. (I am driving up there this Sunday and staying till Monday. Taking a table and 4 chairs for her kitchen/dining area.)

Off to get some work done at church--the mailing for stewardship. Then grocery store and visit Bob.

Cathy, if that saber is so heavy, Disney should have arrangements for it to be transported to your hotel so you can keep enjoying the happiest place on earth. Since it stormed, I guess it worked out for you but I hope you didn't miss out on anything too exciting at Epcot. We would love to go back to Epcot someday to "travel the world" without a passport. We were there for Christmas in 2007 but it was a brief trip. Enjoy the Animal Kingdom, I bet Reagann will love it.

Dianne, it is definitely cold and it snowed during the night. emoticon DH's eye appointment did not go as expected as he wound up getting another eye injection into the surgical eye! He lost his vision temporarily but the crazy man still drove home because he didn't know what else to do, grrr. I told him he should have called and I would have arranged a ride and picked up the car after work. He is too stubborn! There was/is still bleeding at the injection site so putting his drops in was unpleasant for both of us but it had to be done. I tried to convince him to stay home today but he wouldn't hear of it due to the sub shortage and already taking off 1/2 day yesterday. Cataract surgery # 2 is still pending but the retina surgery is scheduled for December 17. I have already notified day care parents I will be closed on 12/17 and 18 and I won't allow DH to work either of those days.

Terri, you had a productive day even if it wasn't sewing. I didn't offer any advice on a vacuum because ours is just an average bagless upright. That reminds me, DD2 is going to need one as well. Please share your findings, I am interested. Dyson has a good reputation so maybe you could find one with better attachments. Kirby seems to be the brand people like up here but I don't need to make payments on a vacuum cleaner! Our builder talked us out of central vac but our DD1 has it in her place and she loves it.

DD2 was fingerprinted at the police station yesterday for her new job. She needs to turn in all her paperwork today and once the State approves her, she can start, sigh. We really thought she was going to start today. She is looking forward to having more time to prepare her Religious Ed class as well as her speech for the freshman tonight. She is going to tie all of the difficulties of her life together and talk about how she would not have made it without God in her life.

What is everyone doing for Thanksgiving? We will most likely go to Waupaca, about 30 miles from here, to celebrate with my BIL and sis-in-law. They have a very beautiful, large home and Bob is an excellent cook. I just hope it doesn't snow. It will be our first Thanksgiving as empty nesters! DD1 will want to shop at Kohl's on Black Friday and my sister and her husband will arrive on Small Business Saturday and leave for the Mayo Clinic on Sunday. It's going to be a busy weekend!

I just looked out the window and we are getting more emoticon , I would send it down to cool you off if I could, Cathy.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Betsy

Hi, wish I had cooler weather here. I hate heat and humidity. Either been too hot or too chilly in a few places. Loved making my light saber. It was a neat experience and the saber is heavy. They went to Epcot while I stayed at Hollywood to make saber. I was going to join them but the saber was so heavy that I took it back to the room and decided to just stay. Glad I did as it really stormed while they were there. Looks like more of that today and tomorrow. Animal Kingdom today.

I've read all, but won't comment now. Im going straight upstairs this morning to get started. I didnt get ANY sewing done yesterday, but finished all the laundry, balanced a checkbook, made some phone calls, and did some research on vacuum cleaners online. I didn't choose one yet, but will leave it for now. Jenny took some of the things from the pantry that were in my donation pile and a small box of tomatoes from my garden--so more stuff gone. I've only got 3 and a half weeks until the boutique and then another 3 and a half until Christmas, so i need to kick it into gear!

Morning! Somehow I missed getting on here yesterday. Regarding choir--we are looking for more people--always--but I have a loud voice and can carry my part -- whatever part I get! Sunday was busy. Yesterday--got to the gym, visited Bob and sang with my people in the afternoon. Today--hit the gym and voted--need to get into the basement and get rid of lots of the craft stuff--wish you were closer, Betsy!

Cathy--glad you got to FL okay--hope you keep having a great time! There should be lots of NJ people there--this is "Jersey Week" cause many schools are closed all week since teachers' convention is Thursday and Friday.

Betsy--good luck with the eye appointment. DD2 is likely a bit apprehensive about moving--once mine left, they were happy but getting there was worrisome! I know you are dealing with cold--I finally had a hard freeze and dug the calla lilies but they are outside drying since it is sunny. We MAY have snow flurries this week--we'll see.

Lindie--poor Amigo and his tail! And yes, no one wins in most strikes--never make up the lost wages and the people who use the service can suffer. That said, sometimes a strike is the only way to get the "powers" to listen.

Terri--sounds like you are keeping more that busy! Glad the ranch will hopefully be able to do laundry soon. And sounds like your purging is getting started. I need to do the same. Hope the power stays on for all! DD1 is going to Wilbur Hot Springs this weekend--for their anniversary.

Anne--we don't even try to eat out on Sundays due to the crowds. We did get a sub this past Sunday--tasted SO good! I will be lay reader next week for our service--we have a guest preacher so I'll do much of the service. Then I plan to go visit DD2.

So--need to get moving!! Hugs to all!

Terri, what is it about these youngest children not wanting to leave their parents homes? I think it was Dianne's youngest who didn't get anything ready until the absolute last possible moment as well. Perhaps they just get too comfortable having their parents all to themselves? I like how your world is divided into two seasons, canning and sewing. Wisconsin has winter and road construction! The road construction here has been awful for a few years because they are doing a huge project right on the main road from our town and village into the next town, widening is involved so businesses have been lost. That same project is why DD2 doesn't have a garage and she isn't too happy about that but she'll just have to deal with scraping ice and clearing snow when needed.

Lindie, poor kitty! I wonder why A&W breakfast isn't the same throughout Canada. We love A&W root beer but find better lunches elsewhere. That said, I have never tried their breakfast, I wasn't aware they had breakfast.

DD2 went to establish with a nurse practitioner yesterday and it did not go well. In a very brief appointment, the woman managed to insult her for being Catholic, roll her eyes at her because she is a 27 year old virgin, disregard DD2's attempts at trying to calm anxiety with natural remedies and tell her she needs to be on Prozac! There was more but those were the highlights/lowlights. DD2 said she is never going there again and I agreed. Thankfully, her new insurance begins on Dec.1 and she will be able to go back to a much better facility. Oh, she also shamed her for not being in contact with the driver of the car accident that did all the damage to her eye ( they were in HS) and acted like the growth hormone injections DD2 endured were unnecessary, good grief! Without those injections, Miss K would not have been able to do many of the things she is able to without a great deal of assistance and/or technology.

DH is only working 1/2 day today as he has his retina appointment this afternoon. We are extremely curious as to when the doctor will schedule the laser surgery. It's possible he could do it today but I hope not, he's still healing from the cataract surgery.

Cathy, how's the weather? What have your highlights been? Is DH behaving or are you still ready to kill him?

Anne and Dianne, emoticon

I am going to go outside now and take some pictures of the holes in the siding on our garage. Progress has been S L O W, sigh.

Have a terrific Tuesday!

Betsy

Read everything but won't comment individually.
Howard is a lousy passenger and thinks I don't see what is happening when I drive, he's hard of hearing and doesn't follow directions well or remember?, and we almost rain out of gas on the worst stretch for that to happen on.
Enjoyed my Star Wars stuff. I crashed the Millenium Falcon. Lol. We made droids. Going back today to make a light saber. Ashlie was chosen as the alliance spy we had to rescue on the old Star Wars ride. Enjoyed some shows. Scooter issues that morning to make our start a rough one. It was a pain at stores but it gets us first on the buses and ahead of others for shows. Enjoyed dessert experience with Fantasmic show, way too much food.
We are doing a later start today as we had a late night and a very long day yesterday.

Good afternoon friends, I am back from my sister's I was suppose to go to the hospital at 11 am to pick her up but got a call while I was in the laundry room to pick her up at 10:10 -well guess what, that was not happening because it was 9:20 and I had not even gotten ready to go plus 2 buses to get there, so while at the first bus stop I called the hospital, explained I was on my way, was transferred to day care surgeries place and was told they would place her in the waiting room till I got there. I got there at 11:10 and never recognized her so went to the desk to ask and then someone was tugging on my coat and it was her LOL - then we got a cab and went straight to starbucks and I treated her to a bagel and coffee and me a mocha ( decaf of course ) and on the walk to her house picked up a couple of apple deserts - got up the stairs and then she proceeded to discribe her night and all she went through so I could be prepared for mine. She appologized about the time and I said don't worry - your the one who waited not me, and then offered me all her left over stuff for my day of liquid fasting and will bring them over tomorrow - I made her promise NOT to drive today at ALL and she said she wanted to get some sleep so I left her and went home and had lunch.

Well before i went to get her I did do a load of laundry myself and boiled 10 eggs for Gene for his morning commute - the busses here are going on strike so at some point they may not even come out of the bus parks - today is no uniform and no over time so busses maybe late in their shedules. Definetely will hurt them more then the passangers - I understand their greivences but really what gets me is that passangers are not allowed to talk to the buss driver not even for direction, or stand ahead of the red line BUT other bus drivers CAN and DO talk to the bus driver - for example, I had a 20 minute bus ride home, and the whole time, another bus driver was talking to the driver of the bus I was on. This really irates me - so much so that I had to say a little prayer to help me be calm and not call out the not driving bus driver - it worked and I got off and went home. Now I am relaxing before I go clean up the kitchen and might play a game or two on the computer before i do that.

Terri I had to laugh about the computer drawiing you in and not turning it on - I often wonder what i would do without my computer and realise it is up to me to control what I do on it and how long I do, like play games. Paying bills I do on my Iphone - once again a form of computer ! Glad you got a few things done with your prince, thank you also for answering my questions about your mom and Aunt Donna - looking forward to hearing the newest grandbabies name when you know. I hope your in the sewing room now and listening to either some good music or something else !

Betsy, your daughter moving out is a really big step so not surprised that she is dragging her heels about it. She obviously wants this or would not have shelled out the money and worried about the extra animal situation if she did not want to. Just reassure her she is welcome home for a visit when it is a good time to visit - it is a big change for all too - hope the young ones were ok today and I ment to say about Landon, that that diagnosis puts all the pieces of the puzzle together and I remember another person on spark who's child was expelled from dayc are because all the kids were afraid of him - forget all the details now but he was also diagnosed with Autism I believe - that condition is never a condition by itself and has accompanying conditions, from what I read. It is good that Landon is where people will be able to help him.

Dianne, glad you enjoyed the music - the cat managed just fine with the fire works - but yesterday I ran over his tail with my chair - accidentally, I was trying to get him out from the back of my chair so I could go feed him, but he did not move in time. Needless to say, he wont' come too close to my chair now - poor kitty lol - what did you do today ?

Cathy, your statement made me laugh, now why did you want to kill DH a few times ? I am sure you ment gibb smack, right ? LOL How is disney land going, I hope everyone is having a fantastic time and the weather is good too !

Anne, too bad about breakfast - I really like the A&W Canadian Breakfast - but wish here in Vancouver they provided Rye bread like they do in Winnipeg - but all in all it is still a good breakfast - and a reasonable price too - but Gene likes Macdonald's breakfast or their breakfast wraps - his money not mine ! How were things today ?

WE have had a stretch of dry weather which will come to an end this weekend - then rain is on tap for a few days booo but needed !

Well, I haven't gotten to the sewing room yet and here I am at the desk. emoticon
But I've washed 3 more loads of laundry, dried and folded 2 of them so far, and only have the bath mats and shower curtain to go. I'll wash my throw rugs with hers and might take down my shower curtain and wash with hers, too. I let mine go too long between washes and it's past due. I've also balanced a checkbook and done all my sparking for the day--with checking with my teams being the last thing.

Glad to see that Cathy and Howard have arrived safely and that the fun has begun.

Anne, we did get a good amount done in his few hours at home and I'm always grateful that he's a guy who will jump in and help clean. He pulled everything off those shelves for me and that was a huge help. He didn't have time to get into any of his own projects, but he sure helped me make a big dent in mine for the weekend. The transition from canning season to sewing season is nearly complete. I'll keep the last batch of apple butter out because I want to take it to sell at Jenny's boutique at the end of the month. I've made some homemade vanilla extract and have a box of new bottles to sell it in, too. I'll let it continue to cure in the pantry and then bottle it just before the boutique. I need to print the labels for those bottles and wish I had someone (like you) who is competent at such things. I'm afraid I'll mess them up, but need to start playing with it so I can get them printed.

Betsy, our youngest seemed to be conflicted about moving out, too. It was a settled thing and she knew it, but didn't do a thing to get ready for it until the day came. I had mentioned to her a few times that she could start boxing some things up and purging her room 2 months ahead of time, but she didn't. On the last day, she was sitting in the middle of a huge pile in her room, deciding what to take and what to leave. I laughed and told her she was taking it all and not leaving any of that mess for me. We helped her box up the entire mess and moved her. I told her that she could sort through things at her leisure, in her own space. Of course, there's plenty of back story involved and some passive-aggressive behavior that didn't end up bearing the fruit she'd desired; however, in a battle of wills in my own home--I win. Of course none of that is the case with K and you would never be as hard-hearted as I was. It's a big change for her and she's bound to be nervous.

I just got a call from Jenny and she's going to stop by and pick up her sandwich boards that Steve built for her to use for advertising her boutiques. Good time for me to get off the computer, but I'll try to check back later if I can.

Sorry I didn't get back here yesterday. I tried but DH was working on report cards so I let him keep working.

Anne, sorry you didn't like the new breakfast place. Maybe it would have been worth the wait where the line was out the door. I know that is the case here. The move barely happened. DD1 was super frustrated with DD2 for barely wanting to move anything and the roommate is also frustrated. We did find a nice full size mattress and base ( no boxspring needed with this base) but they wanted to deliver it on Wednesday. Wednesday is DD2's first day of work at her new place so that was out of the question. We settled on Saturday so she will be with us for another week and that's why Rachel ( roommate) is upset. It is very clear that DD2 is conflicted about moving. The church parking lot will be finished this week and the brick is now on the addition and matches beautifully. We learned completion is on schedule for February.
Thanks for the good work week wishes, it's going to seem long after only having them three days last week and the adjustment to the time change. You said you often sing parts that our cantor normally does, do you not have a cantor? We have several, some great and some not so great but I always remind myself that the not so great ones are at least trying and give them credit for that. I hear you about wanting another Sunday!

Cathy, I believe you said you did Disney Springs yesterday, what is that? A water park?

Dianne, I am sure you were awesome as the sole female member of the choir, what will they do when you move? Have you and DH discussed where you will go next? Any timeline yet?My DH is getting frustrated with his superintendent and mentioned retiring at 64 but when I reminded him that would be next schoolyear, he hesitated. No Medicaid until 65 so he needs to hang in there a little longer. There are rumors circulating that he's retiring but he has said no such thing. Teachers are begging him to stay, can't imagine why! emoticon What happened to our Packers? emoticon I hope you and your pharmacist sister can get things straightened out so you can be comfortable and healthy.

Terri, I did laundry yesterday as well but not nearly as much as you did. Happy belated birthday to your DS. What flavor was the Texas sheet cake? Was it eaten in one sitting? I plan to make a congratulatory cake for DD2 for the new place and the new job but not until she is settled. Make sure your donations aren't replaced with purchases or you'll lose all that kitchen space again! Tub soaking isn't something I do often but maybe that's why we love hot tubs at hotels as much as we do. DH soaks with epsom salts quite a bit to try to relax his tight muscles and prevent cramps.

Lindie, hope all is going well. how cold is it up there these days? I just checked the long range forecast and we have a high of 18 predicted for Monday, brrr! It's supposed to be in the twenties and thirties the rest of the week.

Our Little Brother celebrated his birthday( which is today) and wanted us to come over but we forgot until it had been underway for an hour. We got in the car and texted that we were on our way only to learn that it was over and JB had gone to his aunt's to spend the night. Oops!
between mattress shopping, DD1 and DD2 being on different pages about moving, DH's eye drops/recovery and the everchanging weather that included rain, soap flake snow and hail, we dropped the ball, hopefully he forgives us. We tried to see him yesterday but they didn't know when he would be back so that didn't work either. Tonight I have physical therapy, tomorrow he is with bio mom after school, Wednesday is DD2's speech on the importance of God in one's life, Thursday is DH's one week post surgery eye check and Friday he goes to his bio mom's for the weekend. emoticon

Time for breakfast. Have a marvelous Monday!

Betsy

Terri, you and Steve got a lot accomplished in a short amount of time! Kudos! Happy Birthday to DS2! Yay to having a kitchen twice the size it used to be (due to clutter, lol)! Will you have Thanksgiving there this year? It will diminish in size again if you do, lol! Yes, a lot of tubs do not having good depth to soak in them. Even our tub, which is 41 years old is not deep! I regret not getting a different tub when we did our bathroom over...one with whirlpool jets, lol! Hope you get a lot of sewing done!

Dianne, glad you enjoyed the concert! Is your choir dwindling? I know your girls would sing in the choir, so you lost them...but what about others? Our choir has been "campaigning" for more members. What song will you be solo-ing next week? Hope you get some "me" time in your busy week this week!

Betsy, hope the move went well! How was the church renovation doing? Hope you have a good week with the kiddies!

Cathy, hope you are so busy that you only pop on to keep up (instead of trying to catch back up later)! Have a great trip!

Lindie, glad the time change doesn't bother you! How did your Sunday go?

We had a quiet Sunday...went to Mass in the neighboring town, then had breakfast out at a different breakfast/lunch place...out usual was too busy with a line almost out the door. We were not impressed, so we won't be hurrying back. Rest of the day was low-key...wish today was another Sunday, lol! Need to get ready for Mass and figure out how to sing the Gospel acclamation, in case it is Fr. L...he has me sing it, as well as the Lamb of God acclamation and the recessional, whenever I lector at daily Mass. I hope to get my hair trimmed and maybe colored today...we shall see!

Have a nice day!

Anne

Hi all!

Today is DS2's 40th birthday. I baked him a Texas Sheet cake and took it out to the ranch this morning. They were having friends over for breakfast, then planned to get their water filtration system connected and buttoned up (the breakfast friend is a plumber), then the kids were going home with the friends while son and DIL went for a horseback ride and then out to dinner. I brought home laundry again, but DIL says it may be the last time if their water filter works. So we'll see. I've got the machines going and the 3rd load in the wash right now.

Steve and I watched The Help again last night, went to see the kids this morning and then he was gone this afternoon by 3:30. He helped me clean out one end of my pantry and vacuumed the house. My Dyson isn't working well anymore and he told me to go buy another vacuum cleaner this week--whatever I want. Hmmm...any suggestions? We have mostly wood and tile floors but carpet in the bedrooms, and I like to have a wand so I can vacuum the log walls and get the spiders. The Dyson is an upright and not terribly handy for wand work, but it was a good sucker and didn't have a bag. I like not having to deal with bags.

Once the pantry shelf was emptied and the space vacuumed and wiped clean of dust, I put things back in a more organized way. I decided to donate a couple of things that I don't use (a George Foreman grill, a couple of pieces of tupperware, a pastry press and a couple of thermoses and a popcorn popper) so they won't go back on the shelves. I put the dehydrators away for the season and took 4 boxes of jars back downstairs since I'm done with the apples and won't be using them and my kitchen feels like it has doubled in size. I think I'll make a trip to the thrift store this week and drop off some donations. I'm sure I can find a few more things to add to the pile.

Lindie, I did call my mom while I was on my way to the Kids' Karnaval with gs Christian. We didn't talk long, but I was able to hear her voice and we both agreed that we need to connect soon. She's been busy too. Aunt D is doing pretty well and is being very independent. She really has a difficult time when the power goes off because she doesn't entertain herself well and doesn't have any hobbies beyond playing cards with her friends. She can't stand not to have a TV on, so the shutdown really made her feel isolated and BORED stiff. But health-wise, she seems to be doing very well. The new baby will be 10 days old on Tuesday, so I guess I may see a FB post introducing her to the world, since that's how this generation does things. I'm with you on the time changes, Lindie. It doesn't really affect me, either.

I don't have a bathtub in the log house, so I miss soaking in a tub when I'm here. I used to put a few drops of Lavender oil in my bath water and Boy, was that nice! Right before bed can really help you sleep! When in the canyon and I've been working in the yard, I'll put some epsom salts in as the tub is filling and add a few drops of lavender oil. That really feels good! The cabin at the ranch has an old claw foot tub that will be well-loved and used whenever we FINALLY get out there! I have a great love for those old tubs. The ones you see now just aren't shaped for soaking.

Dianne, I'm sorry for the loss of your friend, but glad you were able to reconnect with others and honored your friend well. It sounds like you had a busy day with the shopping and all. I'm sure you carried yourself well as the only female voice in the choir.

Cathy is traveling or possibly arrived by now. I hope they all have a super-enjoyable time.

My laundry buzzer has gone off a few times as I've been adding to this post and I keep getting sidetracked. I just put the 5th load into the washer and have folded the first 3, so will just go ahead and post this before I get pulled away again. I hope to really get some sewing done tomorrow, so may not turn on the computer until later since it seems to have such a strong magnet for me sometimes. I find that I can get a lot accomplished if I just don't sit down at this desk!

Hello all! The concert was wonderful--quite a pianist! We came right home after and I took 250 mg of niacin--a way to combat my cholesterol without taking drugs--just a bigger does of a vitamin. Pharmacist sister recommended. Well--I had a HOT FLASH that was awful! Touching my arm felt like it was burning, I was flushed--lasted about 10 minutes and then done. I may try 125 mg tonight! She also said take an aspirin 30 min before to counter act--we'll see. I don't want to take the lowering medication so I will try again...need to get to 1000mg she says.

I was the only woman in the choir today--good thing I have a big mouth! And I did the shopping etc for the guests this week--and dropped that off at the church. I do want to get myself replaced. I am doing a solo next week.

Terri--glad you have your machine going now. Enjoy the visit at the ranch. Rosie doing okay?

Lindie--I am glad we don't have the fireworks for Halloween.

Anne--sounds like you had a good weekend. I am going to relax this evening--watching football.

Betsy--guess the game is in CA--looks too warm for WI!

Busy week and I need to get some sorting done!

Anne, I love the extra hour of sleep but hate the early darkness as well. I love the idea of changing only 1/2 hour and leaving it at that!

Cathy, you're almost there, how exciting!

Due to that extra hour, we are up early enough to go to early Mass at our own church. I am excited to see how the renovation is going.

I'll be back later to catch up and share how moving did or didn't go.

Have a super Sunday!

Good morning!
Cathy, good luck with the rest of the drive down!

I stayed in bed until 6:15, then got up and fixed the clocks to 6:15 (it was still on daylight savings time, 7:15, because we didn't bother changing them last night). It is nice having sunshine again in the morning, however, I am going to be very bummed tonight when it gets dark so early. Why can't we just go back 1/2 an hour and leave it at that, lol!

No plans other than some housework...what a boring life, lol!

Have a blessed Sunday!

Good afternoon friends, the fire works were because of Halloween - they are sold about a week before and for some time after and then are let off - they are thinking of banning it but have not acted on that yet. Most are young kids or adults but some are my age - some are for family and some are for just being delinquent especially at 12:30 am ... Should not hear of any more this weekend !

Terri, glad all is well, did you call your mom and is all well with her, and how is your Aunt Donna doing ? Any news on the name of the baby? Many aboriginal tribes have different customs for naming the baby - I know up here in Canada the west coast aboriginals would have costums different then the east coast or prairie and some are blended with European customs as well - one suggestion I read was to ask of the parent's tribe and find out what would be approrpiate for naming and gifts and such. Not sure if you know the baby's father's tribe or not. Just a thought. My children are from the Potawatomi that migrated into Canada and blended in with the Algonquins of the area around Ontario. There are other branches of this tribe as I could find from the listing online - that is through their father's family.

Hope you have a good visit with your prince short though it maybe - and I hope is not too worried about you should the power have to be turned off again, you are resourceful , more so then others would be.

Anne glad you are having a quiet evening at home. Lavender is good to keep spiders at bay, I read they do not like lavender, nore do they like ceder chips - I don't either they smell like urine to me LOL anyway enjoy the evening at home and what ever you decided to do.

Dianne glad the memorial for your friend was a good one, while we don't want to think of loved ones ( friends or family ) not being with us, memorials are for those left behind. What a nice honour for her, a New Orleans band ! Enjoy the music tonight !

Cathy you are on your way so I hope for you a safe journey there and back and some quality family time at Disney !

Not much going on with me this evening, time change tonight .... they are thinking of making it permenant day light savings time and not falling back anymore - does not matter to me as I get up when my body says get up these days LOL

Dianne, glad the memorial was a nice tribute to your friend. Enjoy the concert!

Went to b-fast, work, grocery store for the rectory, did 2 loads of our laundry and now relaxing in the tub with diffuser running with lavender drops in it. J was too tired to go out, so it will be leftovers for dinner. I plan on reading instead of TV.

Have a good night!

I'm here! emoticon

Lots going on around here, as usual. I've been busy puttering around and trying to put a few things away after being sure that I'm done with them. I'm going wash all the trays for my dehydrators and probably put them away for the year, but will be going out to the ranch for a while and will wait to see if I get more apples while there. There is a tree ready right now that has huge apples with pink flesh. We don't know what varieties any of these trees are because they're all about a 100 years old, so it's a bit of an adventure of discovery. The pink apples are very tart and good for baking. I practiced my pie crust last week using them and would like to have more. I have several boxes of canning jars in assorted sizes stacked in the dining room, so will probably take them down to the basement after I can this last batch of apple butter. Once all of this stuff is put away, I'll have a whole new kitchen!

Steve will be home tonight and will then leave again tomorrow afternoon, so I'm not sure what we'll do. Whatever he wants, I guess, and it will probably include staying close to home.

DS1 stopped by yesterday on his way home from work and we had a good visit. I had just gotten my Amazon order, which included a new leather belt for my antique treadle sewing machine and 2 books on maintaing and using them, so I had him help me get the new belt on. Then we used my new books to see where to oil all the parts, and got that done. It was an amazing difference and now my little machine is humming along nicely. I haven't put any fabric through it yet, but I did sit with my coffee and slowly pedal it for a while this morning. That was recommended for a machine that had been sitting idle for a long time, so that all the oil could be slowly moved through the moving parts. I have too many other irons in the fire right now to play with it, but I have plans for it--someday soon, I hope.

Good way to get rid of the candy, Dianne. I took gs Christian to the coast for the event hosted by Jenny's church. I didn't eat any candy, but had 2 hotdogs while there and then he asked what kind of candy I liked when we were on the way home. I told him my favorites are the ones with chocolate, so he sorted through his loot and put 3 little candy bars in my cup holder. He had spent most of his evening doing the cake walk and had won twice, so he was pretty happpy. Other than that, I don't have many temptations around here.

Lindie, I'm glad the roof is done. Hope the windows come clean without too much trouble. What's up with all the fireworks?

Betsy, that must have put your heart in your throat to see the tree on your house! That would be a nightmare at this time of year if it had done any serious damage, ie: broken through the roof to the inside of the house. OR--if it had fallen ON someone!! I hope both you and J get more good rest this weekend.

Happy trails, Cathy! Hello Anne and Mare!

Today was the memorial celebration of my friend who did colonial with me. I went dressed in my colonial clothing and it was nice to be a tribute to her. I did see lots of people I hadn't seen in ages and one couple came home with us to visit some more. They had an excellent luncheon and we marched around the church with a New Orleans style band in her honor. She will be missed.

Otherwise a quiet day. I am looking forward to Grieg piano concerto tonight.

Cathy--hope you have a great time.

Betsy--I am not surprised that the new day care wouldn't keep him. You were a saint to have him as long as you did. I do hope they can help him.

Anne--our heat turned on--haven't had it going for awhile but it isn't 70 any more.

Cathy, our heat turned itself on, too. I heard it running whenever I was awake. Hope you have a fantastic trip! Hope the kids have good replacement sub(s) while you are away!

Dianne, glad those achy muscles feel better! Hope DD1 will not have too much inconvenience from those fires! At least almost half your time there was teaching time! Yay to only a few more to go!

There is a pretty good layer of frost on the deck and wood pile cover. Guess the heat coming on was necessary, lol! I did not sleep well last night. I did not get home from work until 7:30, so I ate my dinner at 7:45-ish. I think that is part of my sleeping issue...eating too late then going to bed right after.
Still no plans other than b-day with J & Rich, and work for today. I

Have a great Saturday!

Anne

Betsy, not surprised he went to work. Is his school system having trouble getting subs like we are? No one wants to put up with these kids anymore plus they have had to hire many for long term with people quitting in several schools. Glad you are putting the eye shield on for him. I was very good about not rubbing mine so I was okay but mine didn't itch very much. Not surprised that the other place didn't even keep him for a day and glad that Landon finally got diagnosed and put in the right kind of situation to help him. Autistic kids can be very violent when young---my first one was a real terror----but I had no problems with him because his mother did not baby him or tolerate bad behavior as he got older. The parents can be the worst enemy of the child's growth. I think that is what we are seeing with Dalton in my room.
Lindie, glad the roof is all done. Hope the new exercises help.
Anne, we got lots of wind on Halloween and yesterday, too. Heat came on all by itself last night. I didn't turn up the heat yesterday as the house was still warm from the day before, but I felt chilly from the damp as the temps started to drop in the house last night.
Dianne, one more time done. Hope you get to talk to some people you haven't seen at the service. HOpe you enjoy the concert tonight.
Terri, you okay?
Everything is packed except for our electronics and the few things we need to get dressed with today. We have Michael's vehicle sitting ready to take things out this morning. Dh has to take his sugar levels and bp before he packs those items. i have him taking extra meds just in case something happens. We are driving his car down and they are using Ashlie's car to go to the airport today and fly down. Hope to get on the road about 8 today.
Teacher had me make lots of copies of work for next week---actually, I think it was for the whole month---LOL--as it included Veteran's Day and Thanksgiving stuff, too. We got lots of books from the library to cover those topics, too.
I will probably check in to say hi and read but not sure how much I will post until I get home.

Time for bed so quick update.
--We had 3 trick or treaters. Extras will go to the church cause we have guests coming this week for our Family Promise week--I had almost forgotten.
--DD1 is feeling a bit better about her run. She has power but is also smelling the smoke.
--I worked today--about 1 hour but there for 4.5 hours. Only 4 more times.
--Muscles are okay today--it was delayed-onset muscle soreness for sure. Massage in 2 weeks.

Glad people are doing okay--tomorrow is memorial service for woman I worked with in Colonial stuff--it will be a sad day. Also have a symphony tomorrow night--and church work day that I will miss.

Stay warm, Betsy and Mare! Have fun, Cathy! Terri--stay safe! Anne, don't blow away--that wind was wicked!

Recipe was Taste of Home Classic Beef Stew. I used rotelle tomatoes for diced and hubby would prefer plain ones--he thought it was spicy. I liked it.

Hi all!
Lindie, glad Amigo wasn't bothered by the fireworks and the roofing people and activity. I hope those exercises help. I am having trouble keeping up my routine and really need to "just do it" and say the heck with everyone else! Why were there fireworks last night? Hooligans or an area festivity going on?

Betsy, hope DH did okay today at school...he is too dedicated, lol! Oh my goodness...coming home to a tree on the house. Bummer for that company! I hope the damage wasn't too extensive or costly! Nice that your former daycare child came for Halloween. So sorry for Landon be tossed out so quickly, but as you said, it is better for him and his parents. I hope that the place he is going will help him lots! Glad you didn't have to go and help Sarah last night, but nice that you offered your assistance in the future.

Cathy, it seems weird that the teacher wants info on and compares herself to Amy...she sounds insecure, among other things. It is also weird that she came in on time for a while and then "changed in her mind what time on time is." Hope you were able to get your list figured out and are able to get all the to-do's done! Almost time!

Terri, glad you aren't being bothered by the smoke...a friend of Rich's told him that it is very nasty! I sure wish you all would get a few days of steady rain...if that will help the fight against those fires! Hope you don't have to lose your electricity or not too often nor too long! How weird not to name the baby! Wonder how the hospital handled that, hmmm. When will Steve be home again?

Dianne, how are those sore muscles? Is DD1 doing better about how she did in that marathon? Is her area affected by the fires? How was lunch with your friend? What do you put in your beef stew?

We had rain that dwindled during the course of the day then returned later last night. We also had some pretty intense winds. When I left the gas station if it was not so windy I would have said it was a perfect night for trick or treating! The temps were in the low 60's. However, as the night progressed, the winds continued, the rain came back, and the temps dropped. By morning the rains stopped, but that wind was pretty intense and quite brisk! It is much better now, but still a bit windy.
We had the neighbor's 3 grandchildren come over last night and that was it. Although I have to admit that with no activity on the street, I shut the lights off at 7:15...I wanted to put my pj's on. Seems like Halloween is disappearing like so many other things of the past, :-(
I wasn't as tired yesterday as I had been all week long. However, today I did have to push on and am very glad that I am at the gas station almost finished with my work! I wish I had a hot tub! I would love to soak in the hot water with the jets shooting the water into all the achy areas of my body, lol!
We have no plans for the weekend, but if there is a movie J would like to go see I think I would like to do that...we'll see. For now, back to work and home for dinner...leftovers, lol!

Have a great Friday night!

Anne

Good morning friends, got a good night's sleep dispite the fire works going off around the neighbourhood - and of course Amigo woke me at 530 for food this morning, so I have been up since then. The session with the kinnitist (sp) went well and I have 6 new exercises to do that will help firm up the glutes as well as other parts working on balance as well. One thing I learnt that I would like to share was about getting calf cramps in the night while sleeping. She asked me if I have my sheets tucked in and I replied yes - she suggested to loosen them for sleeping as the sheets tend to hold the feet in a position not natural which would cause the cramp as the position was held too long - she also asked if I was sleeping on my back when it happened and I said I had not paid attention but would next time I get one - never heard that before so I will loosen the tucked in sheets from now on - and I could see her point. too .. one of the exercises I have to do is the Jane Fonda !!! It was a move that was in her exercise videos way back when and very appropriate ! She also showed me how to do the chin tuck on the bed rather then the wall as I found the wall uncomfortable due to the hunch in the back. We will work on that next ! So far I have done 4 of the exercises - 2 more to do later today. that's 9 all together - oh and there is one with a double tennis ball apparatice for the neck to loosen those muscles at the base of the skull - need to get the double tennis ball first though as they were out but they will email me when their stock comes in.

Amigo handled the fire works ok last night and the roofing is DONE - Gene cleaned his bedroom window and it was blackened on the inside ! I am sure there might be some on the kitchen one and I will deal with that later... he was happy to have his window open last night.

Betsy, glad DH is doing well but are you really suprised about going into work ? I sure can understand the tshirt issue too ! Hope today back to work goes well for you !

Cathy, do you think the teacher is now showing interest in the kids by asking what Amy did ? Maybe that meeting about being on time was a red flag for her and she better shape up er teach up lol - well I bet you are good and excited, but do drive safe when you get going, will Michael also drive in his own car or will you use one vehicle ?

Terri, Dianne, Mare hope all is well and you are enjoying friday and the weekend coming up !

I have skimmed yesterday's posts. Yes, I had to take two days off to take care of DH.
I wanted to take care of him ANd work today but he wouldn't take a third day off, I hope he manages without any pain. The three drops every two hours ended at 10:30 PM the day of surgery. He is a napper so the tricky part was having the shield on whenever he might fall asleep. last night he was upset with me for putting it on because he "wasn't going to sleep" but guess what? He was out on the couch within five minutes after I put it on! Sometimes I think I know his body better than he does.

Megan is 23 years old but has a lot to learn. I agree that a baby should stay in the family but in this case, I really feel like Rekkon would have a better chance being adopted. One of my many stops yesterday was picking up some swaddles for him at a resale shop and meeting a woman at her workplace who agreed to give me some.

Cathy, the tree damaged our roof, siding and gutters so all the repairs will begin today at their cost. I feel badly for them because they were doing a favor and barely charging the "ghost house" owner anything and now this happened and they have to pay out of pocket. They will not be coming out ahead. Fortunately, it is the side of the house so they won't be in the way of people coming and going from the house at drop off and pick up times.

Last night when I finally had a chance to relax, about 9:30, I got a group SOS from a former day care parent who lives about 40 miles away. Her 26 year old daughter, 90 days clean, needed a ride from her workplace in the next town over to our village. I was beat but knew I could do it and wanted to help so I said I would. AS I was getting my jacket, her mother messaged and thanked me but said Sarah had found another ride, phew! It was nice to stay home but I was looking forward to seeing Sarah, it's been years. I didn't know she lived here but now that I do, I offered to help her in any way I/we are able. She was the only baby I ever had in day care on a heart monitor, scary.

A more recent former day care child and his family stopped here for trick or treating last night and made me feel validated. It was enlightening to learn that Landon's day care after he left mine only kept him for TWO hours before saying it wouldn't work out. He has been evaluated and diagnosed with autism and now goes to a special preschool for children on the spectrum in the mornings. His mother works from home and cares for him as well in the afternoons. If I hadn't released him, he would not be getting the help he needs so I am really glad I did for that reason and so many others.

I have to finish getting ready before anybody walks in. Dela will likely be first today because Nellie is going to hear the baby's heartbeat for the first time so I was told she would be late.

Have a fantastic Friday!

Betsy

Love the new chat name!
Will post later...left lots of paperwork behind last night so I could drive home in dusky light and rain.

Anne, glad you seemed to be in a good mood yesterday morning---you weren't complaining about being tired---are you like me and find that the cooler weather makes you sleep better? I didn't sleep well last night as it was too warm here---temps dropped outside but the house was too warm---think it hit 80 here yesterday.
Dianne, are you stretching out those sore muscles? The beef stew sounds yummy. We ended up not having rain last night but the wind was really strong---didn't see any treaters when we drove home and we were home early enough to see some.
Terri, glad you were able to remember what you had posted. I agree about the electric company---we are not engineers and do they not realize that if they do certain things, then everyone's power bill will go even higher? But if they do it in stages, it isn't so bad. And no one can control the fact that you all had very little rain in areas and the strong winds. Did you call your mom?
Lindie, hope the roof is finished soon but it can be interesting watching what is going on. Your dd should have called you if she was so concerned. And if it was something really serious that needed immediate major surgery or treatment, I am sure you would let her know. Like your sister said, you are getting older and will have medical issues and if she really cared, she should be keeping in better contact with you and not keep you at arms length. I know my mom didn't tell me everything but did tell me major things. We all have our aches and pains that just don't need to be talked about because that sends them away from us.
Betsy, any damage to your house? Oh, my, what a thing to come home to. No wonder your dh got fussed at---good for you. Woohoo to not needing glasses for distance.
Comment on the eye itching to all---that is why after cataract surgery you are supposed to wear the eye guard at night so you wont' mess with the eye. I didn't have too much issue with that so didn't wear mine---plus the tape to hold it on irritated my skin and the other tape never kept it in place.
She had her meeting ----she now knows that her arrival time is not what she thought---although why would you think it changed from the first few weeks when she was on time most days? She asked me when did Amy come in--I told her most days at 7:30 or close to it most days. She is always comparing herself to Amy who she doesn't know. That drives me crazy. I know she is not Amy. She wants to take the kids places for trips which Amy didn't and trying to teach them life skills which is now our goals more than learning facts---which for our kids makes a whole lot of sense---they all will need assistance their whole life.
Lots to do today when I get home---will be making lists while I am at school today.
