Hey Everyone,

We were in Santa Barbara for DHs job. It was wonderful. On the weekends we went to Hearst Castle and Solvang. Sovang is in the mountains. We really enjoyed it. On the coast I was cold in June which is unheard of here.

Seattle was cool in July so I assume it's just cooler in the north even in the summer. emoticon emoticon

Yes! Give me 65 to 75, and I'm a happy girl!

Where in California?
San Diego, or some place north?
My sister lived in LA. Yuggers. It was cool in the winter, though.

Hawaii is comfy, mostly, too.

I use those water enhancers, too.

Hmm... I think I have some hot dogs and hamburgers in the freezer. I bought some slider sized burgers for portion control. So if I'm feeling like BBQ, I can whip one up.
Sadly, it's cold and rainy here today, so maybe that will keep me honest. LOL!

Hope everyone is having a lovely day.

Marla, I started buying those drink mixes that you add to water or water bottles. You can get a bunch of flavors at the dollar stores. It has made it so much easier to beat my water goals.

I still drink a protein drink every day, hence the interest in Inspire protein. It's too hard to get all my protein in without it. I especially like that I can now drink my coffee and get in 20 grams of protein. I don't have any problems eating, but my meals are small and I have trouble getting in 100 grams of protein.

I'm not overly inspired to cook when then weather gets hot. I'm thinking about getting a little barbecue grill to shake things up. No special plans for us tomorrow. My son has to work and he's the one who mans the grill.

Hey Everyone,

Brenda, even 8 years post op I still have a smoothie fairly often. I like them because it's an easy way to get protein, and it's easy on my stomach. It also helps with my chocolate fix and sweet tooth. I usually have chocolate smoothies so it covers a range of things.

Tomorrow we are having hamburgers and hot dogs. I love them and can eat about 1/4 of a burger depending on size. When I make them I usually make them all the same for easy cooking, and just eat half on a sandwich round.

Y'all all take care!!

Brenda, I still have one protein shake every day.
Usually for breakfast, sometimes I have it during the drive to work.
It's easy, lo cal, and high in protein.

Thanks Cassie!

Hmm... I think we have a recipe thread here too.

I like the egg bites and mini meatloaves from world according to egg face, too.

Hey Everyone,

Marla, those ingredients would make a good smoothie. Mix it all together in a blender with ice and protein powder and Splenda.

Karen, I eat a lot of chicken and ground meat dishes. I will share recipes if you want them. I still like smoothies though. It's my go too!!!

emoticon Hi everyone!

Marla, I know what you mean about food prepping! I need to change how I think about it so it's not such a drag. Since I'm pre op, I decided to do a five day clean eating challenge that is plant based. I want to track my nutrition to see what the protein and carb counts look like. I've done a nearly vegan diet before and liked it, but it would be really challenging as a post op.

I might have asked this before, but for those of you that are post op and on solid foods, what made you decide to continue protein shakes? Is it convenience, due o complications eating real food, or a struggle to reach your protein goal without it? Just curious because the nutritionist said many choose to continue them, but it's not required.

I called the insurance company to verify receipt of my case. They got it. It's in a pending review status with a note stating that all requirements are met. emoticon emoticon Patiently waiting! I hope to schedule before my surgeon goes on maternity leave in July.

Hi Karen, congrats on getting the scale to budge!

What kinds of new recipes are you looking for? Summer meals? Snacks?

I was thinking about trying to make my own ice cream - sort of. I have some frozen fruit, a tub of plain Greek yogurt, and some protein powder. Not sure what to do with them.

Also, I don't feel like doing any food prep. Living on salads with chicken, turkey cold cuts and Weight Watcher's ice cream! And coffee. I really gotta give that up. :

I've been struggling to get in all my water. Hoping warmer weather will help.

Not so much, lol. I spent yesterday packing up my classroom. The plus side is I won't feel so under the gun this week, and I still have today and tomorrow off.

I ordered some Inspire protein. I got the blueberry cheesecake and chocolate covered cherries. I've been putting the chocolate covered cherries in my coffee in the morning, and it's really good. I'm not sure I like the blueberry one, but I've only mixed it with water. It would probably be better with almond milk. I'd like to try some of the other flavors. It's on sale this week, but it's still pretty darned expensive, especially with shipping charges.

I finally got the scale to nudge down a pound after being stuck all month. I'm tracking my food and increasing my exercise. I'm finally able to walk a couple of miles at a time. My goal this summer is to walk 3 miles every morning. As soon as my new walking shoes come in and I'm finished with school.

I hope you all are having a great weekend. Anyone cooking anything good? I need new ideas.

Welcome Lesa, we are happy you found us!!!!
And we are looking forward to getting to know you!!

Marla, and everyone else. Thanks for the well wishes!!! Surgery was a success!! emoticon emoticon I'm still woozy from anesthesia and pain meds. I plan to take it easy this weekend and watch LSU baseball!!!! Geaux Tigers!!!!

We stayed up for a 14 inning game last night between LSU and Florida. It went off at 2 and I had to get up at 3:30 to be at the hospital. So I slept all day after I got home. LSU plays at 8 again tonight so I guess it will be another late night!!!!

I hope everyone has a good evening!!!!

CAssie, sending prayers for a speedy recovery! emoticon I got 9,000 steps in at school today. I'm almost to 10,000 (not counting 90 minutes of jogging in the pool and water aerobics). I guess I'll walk around the house to make it since its storming outside.

I ordered some Inspire protein and it came in today. I'm hoping that it tastes good. I got the chocolate cherry and the blueberry cheesecake. I'm glad to hear about mixing protein into hot drinkds because I'd like to try the chocolate in my coffee.

Hi everyone!

Been MIA for a while, back to college to update my skills, and staying busy with yardwork.

I have my 6 month check on June 8 and just hope my bloodwork is OK. Haven't lost any hair yet so I guess I'm over the hump.

There are some bad habits creeping back in to my life (like late night snacking) and I have to get a handle on it. Other than that, life is good.

Hope y'all are healthy and happy - Anyone have Memorial Day plans? We are going boating if this beautiful weather holds out.

I found the trick to whey protein powder and hot liquid is to mix up the powder in cold water first- just enough to create a thick paste and get all the little lumps out. Then I add the hot liquid by the spoon full and stir. After about three spoonful additions of hot water I can add the entire amount of thinned protein powder to the hot liquid and no cooking occurs. No more lukewarm drinks

Hi everybody, so sorry I have been MIA, wedding season is tough this year at the Inn because I cannot do anything. I know have a surgery date for the first hip, it is August 2nd. I have to lose another 23 pounds to have it done, but I am back on track (off the plateau) and really happy to have the first hip done. Then my goal is to have the other one done in October, then the first knee done in January and the other knee in March. Doctor thinks I am pushing too much, but I have to be better before wedding season next year.

Thank you for all of the support that you all have give me, I am not sure I would have been able to get so far without all of you.

Awesome! so good to know this. I just went over to obesityhelp and there was a comment from another band to sleeve revision lady that said sleevers dont get stuck the way bandsters do. She said the same thing I was saying that the band was actually hindering healthy eating.

I think from you two ladies' info, Ill contunue my plan for the sleeve. All the things you guys do is how I've learned over the years to eat with the band and I'm good with knowing if I eat that way, I'll be able to eat healthier.
Hugs and thanks again!

We were not allowed to eat them for the first several weeks.

Now I can eat salads and carrot sticks.
I eat baby carrots dry now as a snack when I need something crunchy.

Another tip is to not eat dry food. Meats should be saucy. At least at first.

Thanks Marla for the reply. I'm glad to know you dont get stuck with sleeve. With my band, I can take dime size bite of an egg or tuna fish in the can and chew chew chew and Ill get stuck almost everytime even with those soft foods because of the texture. My band with fluid just wont let them go dowm. It's been a real challenge.

Now processed food goes down real good and I try to stay away from anthing that's not real food. My tum tum feels better when I do.

To know if I follow the rules of taking small bites and chewing to mush with no liquids up to 30-1 hr after I can eat a raw carrot, Im great with that!

Thanks again!

Hi Paula,

Do you mean does food get stuck going down?
Rarely for me. Only if I eat too much and too fast and don't chew well enough.

Take dime sized bites, and chew til food is pureed. Slow down so a meal takes 30 min.
Imagine your sleeve as the size of a standard highlighter.

None of us regret getting the sleeve, but you need to do what's best for YOU!
Best of luck!

-Marla

ok, I have an important question to me to ask everyone. Do you guys get stuck? If so why? The reason Im asking is because with the band I always got stuck with certain foods like raw veggies. that is why Im taking it out. Instead of snacking on a celery stick or carrot stick, I would snack on bad stuff that would go down easy when I was in a time crunch or I was hungry. If getting the sleeve is the same thing, Im going to have to really think again about my surgery.

Since I had all the fluid removed from my band, Ive been able to eat better and feel so much better. Please reply.
Thanks, Paula

Hi Kathi! Im new here but have had my lapband for 6 years ( getting a revision to sleeve soon) and I will be hungry all day if I eat any fruit for breakfast. For me to stay in control, I drink a chocolate latte of sorts-- unsweetened almond milk mixed with my 1 carb 25 grms of protein powder until smooth ( if you mix protein powder with hot liquids it like cooking eggs and will be nasty--will have to throw it away) then after it's smooth, I add my coffee! I get my protein, and caffeine all on the run then off to work!

Kathi,

I also have a Pure Protein shake for breakfast. I add it to a cup of unsweetened almond milk & a cup (or more) of cold coffee. I also add Benefiber or Miralax to it. But by 9 am, 3 hours later, I am hungry, so I have a protein bar, either a Pure Protein bar or some other high protein - low carb kind of bar. I have learned I need to eat every 3 - 4 hours, otherwise I get too hungry and start hoovering any food I can find, which never ends well.
