Good morning everyone! Hope everyone is doing well. It's been a while since I've posted though I've been trying to follow along with everyone's posts regularly.

Linda those protein chips sound good. I might go get some to try. I really like crunchy stuff too. I've made apple chips in the oven. Pair those with some sharp cheddar & it's a great snack.

SOFT_VAL67: We had some crazy thunderstorms up here the other day. It was great. I love watching the lightening. It only lasted about an hour really early in the morning.

Hope everyone is well. Today is 6mo since my sleeve surgery. I go see my surgeon next week for a follow up. I'm 1lb away from 60lbs since my sleeve. I'm feeling great. The nice weather has motivated me to walk more. I've been taking 10min walks before work & sometimes at lunch time too. Getting in those steps!

Have a great day!

Hey Everyone,

After 8 years I eat whatever I want. I can only eat such a small amount I don't think it hurts. I do still eat protein first, but when I want a burger I have it. I can only eat 1/4 of one. The NUT said a burger was healthier than any other fast food. My burgers aren't fast food. I don't know the last time I have been to McDonalds or any other fast food place.

Welcome back Jen. It's so good to have you back.

Linda, I may try those chips. I eat barbecue chips on occasion too.

Take care,

Cassie

Just discovered Quest Protein Chips at GNC. Was a little disappointed in the flavor of the Sea Salt, but I also bought BBQ and I'll try that next. Even though they weren't yummy delicious, they have a nice crunch, only 120 calories and 21g protein so I'm sure I'll keep buying them. I have trouble with most protein powders/drinks so this will be a good way to get extra protein. I love crunchy stuff since my surgery; odd shift from my preference for creamy stuff before surgery.

Blessings,
Linda

Bob, Jen, and Jen--I have absolutely no doubts that you will turn things around.

I was craving something savory and salty. So, I took a 1/2 cup of heart healthy cream of mushroom soup and added no salt beef broth. It tasted great. I think if I do this again, I will use an organic cream of mushroom.

Everyone have a great day today

Jen, I'm like you and allowed old habits to creep back. I too have been at a stall for some time now. I went for my check up and Dr. was very pleased with my progress. I have 25 lbs. to first goal and I feel somewhat scarred. I fear of turning and going the wrong way. So close but yet so far. I'm going back to basics and going to start exercising again and try and turn this thing around. emoticon

Welcome back Jen. Life can do that to us. I am fighting some old habits myself. Just remember to go back to the basics and you can get back on track.

As for hair loss, I was told by my hair stylist to use Nioxin shampoo and conditioner and I never lost much hair if any. My son says I didn't have much to lose so who would know? Kids! But it worked and it came in such a large bottle that I passed it on to another friend of mine who was losing her hair and it helped her.

It's been a long time since my last post. Been MIA, busy with school and loads of summer plans. I am so sorry to find that many of you are dealing with loss and grief, you are in my thoughts and prayers.

I have been kind of lax in monitoring my food and have let some bad habits creep back into my life. Today is my 59th Birthday and my goal is to get back on track. I haven't gained any but have been at a plateau for about 4 weeks. Time to get back in gear.

Welcome to the newbies and congrats to the recently sleeved.

Have a wonderful day, here's to a fresh start!

Oh by the way I did have my 6 month check this month and my doc was very pleased with my progress and all the blood work came back great! Still no hair loss or major ill effects.
woo hoo!

Hi Pam and Lesa! Congrats on getting to soft foods! I'm graduating to puree on Friday emoticon I had surgery on June 8th.

Pam, I absolutely love body weight exercises for strength. They are simple, simple, simple and don't require any equipment. Squats, planks, wallsits, and pushups are my favorites and they all have modifications based on your ability. If you are looking to use weights, I have two suggestions: Jamie Eason's Live Fit Program. It's a 12 week plan using a variety of gym equipment. It's rigorous! I haven't made it through the whole program, but have made many attempts. I'm a pro at weeks 1-4! emoticon in fact, when I'm cleared for lifting, I'm thinking of doing just weeks 1-4.

My other suggestion is a book called New Rules of Lifting for Women. It's been around awhile, but it has a solid structure for workouts. I guess I have a few other suggestions. I like Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred. It's a quick and effective workout. It's been around along time, so the DVD is pretty cheap. Beach Body also has a number of programs. I did the 21 Day Fix Extreme. The only thing I didn't like was the plyometrics. All the jumping was killer for my knees.

I have been up and down, computer trouble and trying to get myself going. Had my surgery Dec.15th. I lost 63 pounds in the first 4 months then kind of went into a standstill. Now doing the shakes again and started to move. I have eaten things not supposed to off and on too.
Still not allowed to eat dairy except cheese and cottage cheese. I do love kidney beans with a little mayo in it....and sometimes celery with the mayo and beans. We can have 1/2 cup of fruit once a day and 1/2 cup of veggies but they don't recommend the fruit because it slow the losing process. Do any of you eat fruit?

I am down to 201 and have lost 87 pounds but that is some before I ever thought of the surgery too. I can't believe I am almost down to under 200 and I walk between 7000 and 10000 steps per day. I am not getting in my strength training though and they say we need to really do that. Any suggestions?

Thanks Marla and Dani. I know I shouldn't worry about my weight. My body will release the fat when it's ready. I'm on track to get 10k steps in today. Haven't done that in a long while! emoticon

The butternut squash sounds good, but it's not on my approved list for full liquids. I can't wait to graduate to puree! emoticon

I strained a package of hot and sour soup this afternoon. It was so good and full of flavor!

I'm off to make a cup of smooth move tea. Good night, all!

Bob, glad you got to spend time with family. You deserve it!
Emerson is getting so big! What a cutie!

Dani, congrats on the surgery! Woo-hoo!
When I had mine, they told me I wouldn't be able to fit all my water in at first, so don't get too stressed about it the first few day. But dehydration is risk.

Saphreal, I think most people gain right after surgery. But I think it's that everything is inflamed, and you're finally taking in more after a couple days of very little.
You can't help but lose. And everyone frets about being the only one to go through this and not lose. You will! Water and shakes! sip, sip, sip! Focus on learning new habits.
(The early days went by so fast for me.)

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Saphreal-I wouldn't get too discouraged. Your body is going through a lot of changes. How often are you weighing yourself? The names of your shakes sound great. I am just doing them straight. It's my first day on full liquids. I had 2 protein shakes and butternut squash soup. I am still having trouble getting in all 64 oz of water in. Today I may make it to 52

Does it take some time to experience weight loss after surgery? I had a gloomy thought this morning, so I thought I should get a sanity check from you all. I had surgery on the 8th. When I got home, I was down 8.4 pounds. I gained three pounds since I came home. I'm not discouraged yet. I know I'm still healing. I need to heed my advice and focus on the process, not the results. The gloomy thought was that maybe the surgery won't change anything for me. How can I slash calories and not lose weight?! I know these worries are a complete waste of time, so I'm sharing and moving on. I'd love to hear from you on this.

In the meantime, I'm sipping my water, walking, and playing chef with different protein flavors. Pumpkin spice with peanut butter cookie is yum!

Marla: WooHoo on the size 10 great job.

Linda: How scary for you, I am glad your son is safe. Great job on losing another pound.

Brenda: The last time I had my hair done, I took a cheese stick with me because I knew I would be there for about 3 to 4 hours. The color looks great!

Dani: I did not experience that type of pain.

Bob: So sorry that things are tough. I hope you can enjoy your visit with your son and grandson. You can always tell us what you need support with.

We are having the last wedding at the Inn tonight for about a month and a half (I marked this time off personally). I am so excited to take some much needed time off. I need to lose another 15.5 pounds to be able to have my 1st hip surgery.

Thanks, Linda, for your kind words. I am a mess these days. One day I think I know the direction I want to go, I might get a good call for a job and get built up and then the ladder is kicked out beneath me with a rejection letter. I will just keep praying and do what I have to do. Sorry yesterday was a real downer day. Going to see Emerson today so I hope that my spirits will be lifted.

Bob, I feel for you and my prayers continue that things will work out according to God's plan. Many years ago, John was forced to retire earlier than we planned because of health issues while I had to continue working for a number of years. I was bitter and angry for a long time about that disruption in the plans we had made, but I did manage to work through it. It sounds like you have the opposite problem since you may struggle that your wife continues to work while you take a different direction, but I have faith that you will work through it all. Life is so challenging, especially when our plans go awry. Keep working to find your way and keep praying! Your friends here will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

Blessings,

Well things in my life are not working out the way I had hoped. My visit to the doctor showed that I am getting lax in my diet and I put on weight again. I think I have reached the point that I can't take anymore rejection letters or emails. I think I am going to file for my SS and start looking for some part time job so that I can use my brains and skills for something I like to do. After 3 interviews that I thought went very well, answering all their questions, I know that my age is going against me. I dont know how I will take allowing my wife to continue working while I am not. But I have gotten back on track with my eating, and dropped 4 lbs in the last two weeks. I think MOnday I will go to the SS office and get the particulars. I believe my unemployment is run out, so I have to do something. I guess as you get older you don't adapt to life's crappy situations as well. But I am trying to remain upbeat. We are driving across state tomorrow to see my son and Emerson. He was 1 year old last Sunday and they are having his birthday party this weekend. Sorry, I am probably giving you more info than you wanted.

Hey everyone. So my surgery was Tuesday. I have been having a lot of epigastric pain anytime I swallow sips. They tested my pouch and there was no leak showing today. My surgeon said this happens sometimes for several weeks anyone else have this issue? Everything else is going well.

My kitchen counter top is filling up! I bought protein at the doctor's office and bought more from Amazon for variety. My husband talked me into getting the 5 pound bags of Syntrax for the quantity discount. emoticon I hope I manage to use it all over time! One of my office purchases was unflavored Protocol protein. I was struggling to figure out what to do with it. I added cocoa, PB2, and Stevia. That wasn't too bad, but it was difficult to figure out how much sweetener to use. So, when I was restocking the 1% milk, I found some sugar free flavored syrups in the coffee section at the grocery store. I picked up a bottle of caramel and also found these little bottles of flavor drops. Chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla weren't appealing to me, so I picked banana. I also bought some pumpkin pie spice.

I ventured out yesterday to get my hair done. She did a balyage (spelling?) Treatment, so I was there for two hours. Oh my gosh! By the time I got home, my new tummy was so empty! I immediately hopped back in my jammies and started my sipping routine. Here's a pic of the new do. The lighting doesn't do the color justice.

Linda, most freezers if not opened with hold their cool for at least 24 hours. I have been there before. Glad you all are safe. Great hearing from you.

Morning, all. It sounds like most of us are doing pretty well. I've ditched another one of those 5 pounds I gained after John passed so I'm beginning to feel a bit better about myself. I ordered a variety pack of Inspire Protein Powder just to kick up my protein and use as a meal replacement to see if I can get back to the weight I belong. I tried the Vanilla Bean this morning with a banana and some strawberries; it was pretty good. Used a little coconut milk to mix it up; used the blender so it was the consistency of a thick milkshake.

We had big thunder storms in Texas yesterday afternoon and one of them really stuck it to us. My son had stepped outside, just under the overhang of the garage to watch the pouring rain when there was a huge clap of thunder and lightning struck a transformer about 150 feet from where he was standing. I'm so glad he is safe! That was 3:15 yesterday afternoon and our power came on at 3:52 this morning! Crews worked all night at the end of our street and when they finally pulled up to the transformer, their truck lights shined in my bedroom window; that's how I know exactly what time the power returned! I was tempted to run outside in my jammies and give them all a big hug. LOL I never opened my freezer door after the power went out, but I still dread looking in there to see what I might have lost. Hoping it held it's cool long enough to save most stuff, but the freezer is in the garage and its plenty hot and humid here so I don't know...

Blessings,
Linda

Hi everyone!

Dani - best of luck; it will be awesome!

Karen, hoping Charlie is on the mend and fast! Sending hugs and prayers.

Sorry to be MIA again. Work's been nuts, and I needed to get away.
I spent the weekend at my childhood best friend's house. She hadn't seen me in a while, so she was excited by my weight loss. (I really needed the congratulations!) We did some shopping, and while my scale has barely budged lately, my clothing size sure did. I almost cried in the dressing room when a size 10 fit me! Ok, it was a little to snug, but still... OMG! Me! I have not been a 10 in my adult life. I am a 10! Woo-hoo!

Hope everyone is having a great week!
Marla

Brenda, I am 8 months out. I count carbs. Protein, and calories. I track everything on my fitness pal instead of spark people because I get vitality points. I'm supposed to limit carbs to 100 grams but most days I keep it under 50. I aim for 100 grams of protein and about 1,000 calories.

Oh gosh, no! No lawn mowing for me yesterday. I did my best to be mindful of not over doing it, but it's so dang hard when little ones are involved! At the time, I felt like I was doing very little, but my back is sore and I have some extra ab tenderness today.

I used the blender for today's protein, mixing Unjury chocolate with some PB2. Nice change while I wait for additional flavors to arrive.

Do you count your carbs, Karen? How far out are you?

I agree, the tragedy in Orlando is awful. It just sucks.

Brenda,,you are doing great! 800 calories is good for where you are. And you need to take things a little slow- your body just went through major surgery. No pushing lawn mowers (or vacuum cleaners) or lifting heavy things or bending.

I put my fitbit on the charger this morning and forgot about it, so no steps for me today lol. I didn't take many anyhow. It's wicked hot out (heat index over 100). We had a thunderstorm roll through this evening that cooled things down a bit.

Charlie does better if I do nothing so that's my excuse for the day. I've been listening to the news. My heart aches for all the people who are faced with such tragedy. It's sad that our world is so full of hatred.

Oh yeah, find for the day- Halo Top ice cream. Only 60 calories in a 1/2 cup serving and 6 grams of protein. It's a bit carb heavy, but so good for an occasional treat. I found it at Kroger, near the gluten free ice cream. The lemon cake is delicious.

I can't wait to eat eggs and tuna!!! I ordered some syntrax nectar mint cookie protein and peanut butter cookie protein from Amazon and ordered more Unjury chicken protein, vanilla, and chocolate. I'm trying not to think about real food. I have 11 more days of liquids.

I mixed some unflavored protein in a sugar free pudding this morning. Blech. I'm hoping it will taste better chilled.

I really wish I had mowed the lawn before I had surgery. Maybe I can have the kids do it when they come over. I know I should be moving more. I only got around 1500 steps yesterday. But my energy is incredibly low. I'm averaging around 800 calories. I suspect it will take some time adjusting to the new calorie count.

Oh, I also had my first bowel movement on Day 4! emoticon emoticon emoticon What a relief! I took a stool softener this morning to help things along.

Happy Sunday, everyone! Dani, I remember the excitement before surgery. You will do fantastic! I am having a quiet Sunday. Charlie came through his surgery with flying colors on Friday. The vet removed his spleen and the tumor. They did a liver biopsy that was sent off along with the tumor and spleen. It will be another week or so before we know what we are dealing with, but his blood work was good and his heart is clear along with his lungs. The hardest part is that he is on complete rest. So I am sitting around too, because Charlie want to be wherever I am. As long as I'm sitting, he's resting. We split breakfast this morning. I made an omelet with oven roasted turkey breast and cheese. Lots of protein for both of us lol. I love EB eggs. The make the fluffiest omelets ever.

We are leaving for Idaho on Thursday. I was tempted to cancel the trip, but my stepson is taking care of the zoo (he's home in the evenings and days off), Charlie is healing well, and there's not much else I can do at this point. I haven't seen my grandkids in 2 years and we are all going to Yellowstone. We will be driving out. I'm looking for good ideas for road trip food. In the old days I'd take a bag of licorice and corn nuts to chew on while driving . I'll definitely take some jerky, but I'm looking for other ideas. We will be bringing a cooler and are planning on making lots of stops so my 3 year old granddaughter can get out and run around.

Hey Everyone,

I made large quantities of tuna salad with boiled eggs, mayo, mustard and pickle relish. I bought small rubber maid containers at Walmart that held 2 ozs. I would bring two of those containers to work for lunch and a snack. I think 4-6 of the containers came as a set. I used them all and had my meal or snack ready. My DH ate tuna salad too so it was a win/win for us. Of course that was after about 4 weeks.

I couldn't tolerate much in the beginning. So I ate a lot of smoothies the first 2 years.

Y'all have a goodnight.

Dani, your team will discuss options to mitigate constipation before you discharge. My orders were a colace stool softener and milk of magnesia. You'll want to hold off on fiber supplements until you are cleared for them. I just had surgery on the 8th. My husband is amazed I have gas. "You aren't even eating anything!" Lol

Thanks for the feedback on freezing meals. I'll have to try some things to see what will work best for us. I bought four ramekins at the resale shop the other day. thinking ahead to making some of those ricotta bakes on the BE site.

Hey Everyone,

Bob, I'm so sorry for your loss!! You and your wife are in our prayers.
Linda, my mom passed away before our little girl, but since my mom lived with us for 13 years after my dad passed away, Prissy was her dog too. We said the same thing when Prissy died. She's now with my mom and dad enjoying them.

Blue star mom, I hope all goes well with your fur baby!!!

I hope y'all all have a good day. I also cook regular food and freeze it. But in a serving large enough for both of us.
It sounds like you are doing well.

Y'all all take care!!!

For some constipation is a fact of life with the sleeve. I take a generic colace stool softener every day to combat it. And before I was regular as can be. It affects different people. Increasing your fiber will help with this as well.

Bluestarmom-I will be thinking of you in the next couple days.

Bob-I am sorry. It is so difficult to lose those you love.

I go for my sleeve on Tuesday. I am worried about constipation in the next month as I look at how my diet will be advanced we don't eat any or little rufage and fiber. Did you add fiber mixes to water, or just take dulcolax? How did you prevent it?

Brenda, it depends on what it is. I bought some one cup containers from Fitand Fresh and I freeze leftovers in them. It makes a quick lunch. Some things I can divide out and eat for lunch all week. With something like the Big Mac Salad, I keep the meat and dressing separate and make up individual portions right before eating.

I am so sad today. Charlie has been favoring his front paw, so I took him in to the vet. He has arthritis in his shoulder, which I expected. He also has a mass attached to his spleen. We don't know what his prognosis is, except that he's a ticking time bomb right now because if his spleen ruptures, he'll bleed out. So tomorrow he goes in to have his spleen and tumor removed. I'm praying hard that it isn't cancer that has spread. Charlie's picture showed up on my facebook page the day after I lost my sweet, sweet, boy Raider to lymphoma. His owner had cancer and could no longer care for him. I brought him home, and he has become my baby. He's such a goofy mama's boy. I guess I had a minor victory. I went to Culver's to get dinner (hamburger for Mike and chicken for me). I had a text for buy one get one free concrete mixer (ice cream), and I resisted. I do have some no sugar added ice cream in the freezer, so if I feel the urge, I can have some without too much damage, especially since I haven't felt like eating today.
