Bright Blessings

I started reading the Tarot many, many, moons well just to many moons ago to remember.

The only deck available, at that time, was the Rider-Waite. The Celtic Cross was the spread I used and I did have some good results from it and return clients.

But then the market opend up and now the variety of Decks is amazing. Not to mention the books out there! Tarot 101 by Kim Huggens, and any book by Barbara Moore or James Ricklef are good and you can start doing readings right away. The one common theme through these books is to keep a Tarot Journal. I've been doing this for years. Not only are you able to follow your growth in the Tarot, your impressions of the images on the cards but also what cards keep coming up in either a daily one card draw or 3 card draw. There are so many ways to use a 3 card draw, not just the past, present, future.

The web site www.psychic-revelation.com has a lot of Tarot spreads, explains them and also explaination of the cards of the deck. You don't have to join. When you get into the web site, click on Tarot.

ZMONEY ~ For me, I have found that face/court cards are the most difficult to read. The Aeclectic Tarot site (aeclectic.net) has been *very* helpful in assisting me in becoming more at ease with the court cards. Knowing in general what the four suits mean and then in general what the four court cards mean it's easier to figure out by combining the suits and court cards. That way the definitions that are related to each individual card makes much more sense.

Reading tarot is a process and in that process learning to trust yourself and your own intuition is important. Where you want to get to is to use the cards as a focal point for your intuition to become open.

Wow ... that's very cool. I love when things click like that - and to lead to a spontaneous creative result is just amazing!

ZMoney, I was the same way... The moment I arrived home with the cards I tried my first spread. I was pretty bad at making any sense of it at first, but that's where the practice comes in. That was about 12 years ago. I think whenever you feel like you want to try, is the right time to try!

Hi Zmoney, when i first got my cards I did a spread right away.... now granted it took me a long time to try and determine what each card in each space meant.... it was fun kind of like a research project can be fun.... i have been using cards for about 2 years or so now and only now have i begun doing the single draws to try and become more intuitive with the cards.

I was doing some research and found these pages that has some interesting information on one (http://www.squidoo.com/tarot-techniques-o
ne-card-reading) and two card (http://www.squidoo.com/two-card-tarot-rea
ding) spreads and other interesting information. It's worth looking at.

ZMoney... What I was looking for was something more specific. For example, if I was looking for insight about the relationship or job I was in at that time, a past/present/future spread - or the celtic cross - didn't really provide me with specific insights or ideas on a way forward regarding my job or relationship. They seemed sort of disconnected from the issue. But when I used a spread that stated something like... 1)This is how you see the other, 2)This is how they see you, 3)This is where you come together, 4)This is where you fall apart... etc... that got right to the bottom line of the type of insight I was looking for.

I'm not sure if that answered your question... :-)

Celtic Cross seems to be the all-purpose spread of choice - I also sort of default to that when I read for others, unless their question really shouts out for something else. But for myself I find it kind of cumbersome, with a lot of extraneous stuff I don't need, and often unhelpful when I have a specific question.

As a newbie I started looking for question-specific spreads, and noting them in a binder when I liked them. But spreads that provided specific answers to specific questions were often elusive. That was when it occurred to me to try formulating my own spreads that were geared to *my* particular focus.

Eventually I purchased one of those huge, easle-sized artist's sketch pads... used a spare card to trace out the spreads, and wrote the position's significance just inside or below the space. This way I could keep in one place all the spreads I liked, with notes on how to use them. And it served as a flat, rigid work surface as well.

That said, the one I use most often is the 3-card I use for my daily draw. It's another slight variation on past-present-future... the ORIGIN of the CURRENT situation, and its likely EFFECT.

Personally, like Heather, I have been concentrating on drawing one card for the focus a day and to learn more about that one card.

Also I like to use the three card draw, at least weekly... I use the History (past), Mystery (present), and Gift (future) version.

When I'm doing other peoples cards (occasionally my own) I use the Celtic Cross. I also like to try new layouts occasionally... and to date, I haven't created my own.

I tend to draw one card as as where should my focus be today, this week, on this issue.

The only spread i have tried is the celtic cross. I have focused more on the one card draws to become familiar with the cards and be able to 'ponder' their meaning...my theory is it will help me to more intuitively 'read' the cards at a point in time i decide to use more spreads.

Do you like to use a variety of spreads for your readings, or tend to fall back on a particular one all the time? Do you keep ideas for spreads somewhere, or just in your head? Have you created your own spreads? What's your current favorite?

I'll come back and post some of my answers in a bit - gotta get a start on my day. I'm curious about what all of you have to say!
