I have been so MIA this summer. It’s been miserable.

Issues at work with a store closing. That creates a lot of unhappiness, stress and sadness. The store that’s closing is right across the street from my office. It’s owned by the same people who own the corporation I work for. I’ve been friends with the other employees for well over 30 years now. We’re like a separate family. So I’m sad. Too many losses . . .

I have never liked summer except that it was a ‘vacation from school.’ That made it fantastic. But even as a child the heat/humidity of the Midwest has never been something I’ve looked forward to. This year it’s really been horrid, but not just here it’s in many areas. Today it’s actually quite nice out, at least this morning. So I’m smiling!

Abby started her 6 week summer session of competitive dance classes. She came home last night and said (as she flopped on the sofa) “My legs are killing me, Grandma.” I told her mine are just fine. She had 2 classes and the last one is the one that was killing her. It’s called Vaganova ballet. It’s new for her. It’s a Russian, classical ballet. She’s becoming an expensive child. But it’s healthy, love the studio (management/owners) and everyone there is always smiling. It’s called Heavenly Rhythm Dance Studio (HRDS). The owner’s sister died in a boating accident in 8/2005. So very sad as she was only 16. Her name was Holly Reeb. She loved to dance and her older sister (the owner) danced too. To honor Holly she opened the studio. In January of this year we moved to a brand new studio. They have grown and grown. There is a spiritual aspect to it as well, i.e. Biblical quotes on walls, competitive teams have prayers and some bible study, no criticizing another dancer, and so forth. Lots of rules. Abby’s contract is something like 14 pages long. I love it! She’s in good hands and she’s happy. What more could we ask for? Her mother feels the same way. By the way - HRDS (also Holly Reeb Dance Studio - loving family)

Joe’s doing well. Still working at the car dealership here in town. The owners just bought 3 more dealerships in Missouri - about an hour or so from here. Sullivan MO. I talked to him last night about pulling up the carpet in the LR and DR. I want hardwood floors. I know the floors are still nice. I ‘know’ this because I bought the house from my aunt & uncle who took very good care of their home. He said, sure, and a couple of his friends will help. I’m not sure ‘when’ we’ll get started. They have to all be off work and I have to decide a few other things - like where to put a couple of things. I have a large desk in the LR right now and I want to move it out and put my computer on something a lot smaller in another room. Decisions. Decisions.

I hope that Mike is doing better. Richard is misbehaving!!

Karen, those darn bears - gorgeous creatures but frightening to me. We have them moving closer to where I live. Black bears.

Ronda, your picture makes me want to Party!!

Congratulations to the weight loss members and maintainers. Fantastic.

I better get back to work. Have a great day.

Nancy! You are #1 biggest loser this week in the LoL Challenge!

Everyone on the LoL Team this week either Maintained or Lost weight -- NO-ONE gained this week emoticon

We have a wonderful team member who will not be on spark for awhile. She didn't say how long she'll be gone but I am asking ALL of to pray for her. She has some major medical issue. So add Deborah to your pray list. Thank you!

Hungry Bears! Yikes!

Hope Richard gets well.

Hi Sparkers! Rained hats and frogs the entire day, plus thunder and lightning. My kind of day! Jeannie, I hope Richard’s toe bone infection heals quickly! Babs, I cannot believe I am actually already scheduling business meetings into September already! Jackie, is Mike doing ok still?
Hi everyone else!
Last night and tonight we had a huge black bear break into our shed. Last night he broke part of the door frame and snapped part of the handle off. Last night it was about 11pm, tonight it was about 8:30. I am sure he was looking for trash and garbage to eat. From my kitchen window, he was no more than 10ft from me. I kept shining my big flashlight at him, hoping that would scare him off. No such luck, but Jim had done some door repairs today which make it harder for the bear. Tonight he left in frustration. We found out this morning he had hit at least six homes in our neighborhood.
On a good note, my son and DIL to be have asked me to officiate their wedding in November. I did that for my oldest child and her husband four yrs ago. It was easy here in VT to be certified to perform the ceremony. Hope Colorado is just as easy! That will be two down and one to go. That last one is in TX and it would be a same sex marriage. TX is not the most friendly state for gay marriages but at least they live in Austin which is a little more liberal.
Anyway, time for me to do some reading.
Hugs,
Karen

We are getting sporatic showers in various areas. We need a good rain but no strong straight line winds or tornadoes with it. Thankful we don't have forrest fires.

Thanks, Rusty and good for you, We need rest days, too!

Just in from doing some weed-eating. It's hot! Richard is on the riding mower even though I didn't want him to be doing that. He has an infection in the bones under his little toe (left foot) and will have to go on IV meds as soon as they decide which ones to start him on. They're supposed to put a PICC line in on Friday, but they haven't called with a time yet. So, of course, he decided he should get the grass cut before he gets too tied down. Me? I would have let it go and asked the neighbor to do it, but obviously that didn't happen. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it), we need rain badly and the grass won't be growing much unless the weather pattern changes. Jackie, I know you can relate to the feet/leg issues!

Hope all of you are well and staying hydrated and cool!! Will "talk" later! Jeannie

Off to do something...don't know what yet, but right or wrong, I'm doing it!!! LOL

So sorry Jeannie to hear about Richard's infection. I pray for his healing. Mike had to go to the Wound Infectious Disease Clinic a couple of years ago. And they had some special ointment that helped him ... took about 3 months, but it did finally clear. Here's hoping....

Babs, agree, the days are flying by. I think it's all this heat....

Hi Karen!

CJ - those pictures are so cute. Thank you for sharing.

Well ... Adeline day, so need to prepare then get ready... Stay cool all.

CJ, those sweet little girls are way ahead of me...I've never had a pedicure and probably never will. lol...I have weird feet and wouldn't feel comfortable showing them to someone. Love the looks on their faces. Prayers for a healthy baby and safe delivery for the 10th GGC!

Babs, I was thinking the same thing. The month is moving along way too quickly! Our GSs will be back in school in about a month, too. They just finished their baseball seasons. At least one of them will be playing football, but thankfully, there is so much oversight at that age, there "shouldn't" be too much danger of injuries.

Richard's infection continues. He's to be seen by an infectious disease specialist on Friday. I hate to wait that long, but if it worsens we'll go to the ER, The MRI showed a mild infection in the bone of the little toe on that foot. Sigh...he hates it and has so many things he wants to get done, but doc's orders are to say put with foot elevated, so he is.

Take care, friends, and have a great week. Hugs and love, Jeannie

I have never seen such adorable chairs for kids. Of course, the girls are beautiful! What a way to start my day. Big smile.

We are now half way through the month of July. Unbelievable; isn't it? Abby will be in school a month from now.

Nancy, I hope you have more time off. Your school year seemed to go later than they do around here.

Have a great week.

Just wanted to start your Monday off with a smile, these girls are 2 of my Great Grand Daughters, they are 4 years old and they are getting their first Pedi-Cure. Hope it brings a smile to you.

I finally got started on the new 28 day new challenge, working on trying to get back into the chair exercise a little more, but it has to be slow and easy for a while.

Church and meetings made it necessary that I take a rest day of sorts. I didn't get to rest but I didn't work as I have been. Have to make up for lost time tomorrow.
Wife fixed tuna fish salad tonight and it was great. The fruit went well with it.

Well team sorry about being MIA. I'm way behind on how everyone is doing on this looooong hot summer, at least so far.
Welcome to all the new members. This is the best team on sparkpeople.
We all drop in and out as our lives occasionally require attention.
But when we can we check in.

My grandchildren are staying with me till next Sun. while the parents are on a cruise to celebrate their anniversary. I have several day trips planned for us. My plan is to keep them busy so they don't miss Mommy & Daddy. Needless to say it will be a wild and crazy week.

Now that my house is for sale it's already crazy busy here. Keeping the house inside and outside ready to show at short notice does require some getting use too.
Add the grandchildren to the week and it will definitely be interesting.
Wish me luck!

Rusty be careful. Take breaks and drink lots of water. Do have a fan or some way to stay cooler.

Today I got too hot. Heat index was 108-110 and I was loading boxes and got real dizzy, twice, so I decided to wait until tomorrow to unload them. The Lord is gently showing me my age. My two workers knew better than show up today!

I'm glad you like the exercise links I shared. You'll find more in our exercise link thread on the main team page. There are several that Paula shares too! Check it out. And feel free to add any links of workouts that you come across that you like.

Remember all exercise routines can be modified. You can change exercise if necessary- change weight, change standing or seating, can't bend over as far-that's ok; make any adjustment whether up or down on levels to make it work for you!! Just emoticon and you will succeed!

I've slacked on my exercise and my scale shows an increase in body fat! The last month I haven't been working out as hard and been eating more. My scale is also showing an increase in weight. I really need to get this under control. I have started walking the dogs every morning again. But still haven't been doing any workout routines -like I was before I got off track.

Wishing everyone an awesome day! emoticon

Greetings All,

Thanks Ronda for the exercise links. I tried one and I really enjoyed it. Renewed my effort to get moving. And To do as much as I can ... I also passed them on to our Chorus physical warm up gal ... she had us do chair exercises to show some of the ladies that movement is possible standing or sitting (some do refuse to do either). She asked for a commitment of 3 times per week to help strengthen our core (so we can breathe better and stand on the risers).

Eating/Tracking/Weighing has resulted in a 7 lb loss so far. So I am happy about that. So next step is to start moving. I see Deb & Nancy have also lost ... that's great. WOHOO!

Hot again over here as well ... I'm feeling rather dopey (LOL)

Babs/Karen, the veggies sound good. I've tried to munch more on them as well. I love cut up watermelon ... normally have some for breakfast

Jeannie, ugh packing ... I commend you in your focus. Hope Richard is feeling better.

Take care everyone... Jackie

Last 2 days have been hot but last night cooled down.Got on the scale and i am down a little so i dont know if its cause it was to hot to eat a lot or i actually have been eating better.

I have been doing the grow young fitness exercises and i do feel better my feet and legs arent so stiff the day after i work. Also when i make the commit to exercise and really do it i do hate to mess it up by eating crappy stuff.I made 6 dozen chocolate chip cookies for my co workers and had one to check to see if they were ok after that havent really felt the need to eat them, took most to work and stuck the rest in the freezer.

Off to thye grcery store i noticed someone was talking about watermelons and feel like having some.

Swept out an empty office this morning! Brother reminded me of a box in store I needed to look through. See if helper shows tomorrow and maybe finish the warehouse.
Heat and humidity wore me down and I only worked 8 hours, helped that I started at 6:30.

Ugh...more heat and humidity. 96* today and I don't know what the heat index is because I don't want to know! lol Did a shift at the museum this afternoon and had no visitors, so I spent most of my time reading and putting a jigsaw puzzle together. Tomorrow it's haircut day and a meeting tomorrow night and then several days "off."

I've been packing one box a day and hope that it will be enough to get me ready for our move in September. Still no definite moving date, but we'll know within a month. Our DD went home with a car full of various and sundry things, so I was happy about that. I don't know if she was, but it's out of my hair.

Hope everyone stays cool and enjoys the rest of the week. Sounds like many of you are working hard to reach your goals. That's wonderful. Take care and I'll be back in a few days! Hugs and love, Jeannie

emoticon We're heating up again here.

Hope everyone's drinking lots of water and staying hydrated. I certainly drink a lot of water.

We have tomatoes growing and multiplying and I'm so excited. We're going to have a lot of cucumbers and zucchini very soon too. Bought a watermelon last week and it was gone before I knew it. Might get another one this week and a cantaloupe. Love taking the melon in my lunch.

I am thankful when we have a break and get some real hot and sweaty days from the unbearably hot and sweaty ones we have enjoyed lately. Feeling better today, shoulder is improving and after working this afternoon I think the end of the moving is in sight.

My mother likes this one!! And she hasn't done any exercise for years!

Hasfit.com has lots of different levels. I really enjoy them

Karen it's in the 100's here but it is every summer. A lot of homes here still only have evap coolers. But AC is more comfortable and more and more people are using it. Glad it cooled off for you. It will be Nov/Dec before we cool down.
