Tuesday I went to my employer, had a face to face talk and then handed in my resignation. I was hugged . The residents felt sad, some staff did too. I also had to go to the bank and pay back to the government some money they overpaid my mother for January.. since she passed in December.
Afterwards Noni and I went on an afternoon date.

It was nice to visit winter, but I think prefer spring here below

(To bad I couldnít get a clear photo) but spring here below has come

Up dating.. I was offered the job to work at camp as the special meals chef. I will feed all the guest and staff who are vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, celiac, dairy free, egg free, you name it.. it is my responsibility. Oh how did that happen??
Noni will be second cook baker . Responsible for salad bar and bake goods.
Tuesday I must give notice that I am leaving my present job.. I will miss the residents and most of the staff ... not my supervisor or co- cook. They made life miserable in the kitchen.
Start up will be 21 March.. I need to take a first aid course and get a police report done.
I have been on line looking for menu ideas and recipes and looking in different cook books .
This will be a new challenge for me.. not the actual cooking but the menu planning for each group of people..
I went and had a tour of the kitchen.. keep in mind it is closed for the winter and so itís a mess and out of commission.. but it will give you an idea where Iím going .

my special small kitchen separate from the larger one

I get to serve all my meals here everyone else go to a buffet table and help them selves.
But I have special plates that I serve their complete meal in.. I get to interact with everyone who I cook for. Iím happy with that..

If you have menu ideas or recipes.. please let me know ..
thank you

Marty, I hope both you and your wife fare well with the interview. It is not healthy or easy to work in an environment where you are not happy. I am glad you are feeling better.

As for me!

I ordered some new bands to work with at home. I am going to incorporate them in my daily routine. I have some back in Michigan and they did come in handy in helping with my stretching. I am still not exactly ready to set up a schedule to get into shape. I keep saying I will and I put it off. I just seem to be doing so much running around trying to tie up the finishing touches on the guest house that I just had remodeled. Now I am trying to get it decorated. I know it's in Vegas but I am doing it a Western Theme to remind me of my horses back in Michigan.

Being down with the back pain this past two weeks set me back a lot. I am feeling better and still not up to par. I have to take it slow or that muscle goes wacky on me. Feels like it will shoot out stabs into my back and chest. I am out of relaxers, out of pain med, and my insurance will not be accepted here to see a regular doctor. Blue Cross of Michigan stays in Michigan I guess, at least that is what Nevada says. I might try a trip back to the Urgent Care they accepted at least my Medicare. Unfortunately the doctors here are talking Medicare Plus for Nevada also. Geeze what a nightmare.

I did manage to pay off my car here in Vegas two years early so I could get a title. Now I am taking that title to Michigan to plate and insure the car. It is just to costly here in Nevada to plate that vehicle each year. Not to mention that emissions text, not so costly but annoying.

Ok, I am off for the day lots of shopping to do for the guest house.

Hugs
Joanna

The doctor has gave me the note to return to work this Wednesday.. I met with my kitchen manager today handing in the actual form. I sent an email yesterday informing her and her manager of the doctors decision and with the request that I wanted to start any time after and including Friday. Today she said she wanted me to start Thursday.. f I canít start this Thursday then I must wait a week till next Thursday. It will mess up her schedule.. and she does not revolve around my time table.. since I have been off the two cooks work 10 hours per day and the dishwasher does prepping for them. My return messes up their little routine.. ( my manager does not like me .. she has told me this to my face before I went off..) well Thursday I have a second interview.. first one went very well... unless my reference are bad we have the job.
I brought my wife along with me.. not a normal thing to do but .. working at camp they need to know her as well.. somehow during the interview she also was interviewed for a position.
Donít ask me how or why..
The camp director who interviewed us knows well camp Summit owner and Noni boss now..
Our two main references are his personal friends.. this is either going to stop us dead or hand us the job.
Well Thursday we actually go see the camp and kitchen.. our interview was in the main office in Port Moody BC.

Before the interview we walked around near the office and after we celebrate Valentineís Day dinner early

Today was a good day to be outside. I walked home from church. Gathered my camera and back out I went to the pond .. not many birds around but it was an awesome walk in the sun. I even stopped to build a small fire, not so successful everything is damp to the core.
Monday ( tomorrow) I have an early morning doctors appointment.. hopefully I will be given the go ahead to return to work . ALSO .. tomorrow afternoon I have a job interview at a childrenís camp. Many decisions .. can I actually do the job as a chef ( standing up those long hours and heavy days) or do I need to change careers? Do I stay working at a senior residence or do I go back into camp ministry.. I have unknowns before me..
that is tomorrow for now we will enjoy my walk today..

I seen and identified over 34 species of birds today.. more than all of January. Then there are the ones I seen but could not identify..

February first .. I had to get outside to start the month off right.. at first not sure if that was going to be .. Squamish had rain this morning and strong winds..
Noni gave me a haircut.. I prepared supper.. moose short ribs into the slow cooker..
I drew some some names from the postcard website.. and got them all written and stamped..
Noni leaves for work and I walk over to the post office and then around the pond. ( the sun came out) This is so exhausting.. I should be able to do this.. oh well it feels like many miles and hours but it was only just over an hour ..
at first I was so disappointed, no birds at all.. then near the end ( my turn around point ) I was blessed .. as always .. the scenery is beautiful especially when the sun is shining

Kingfisher

Hooded Merganser

Northern Flicker

Crow

Robin
what am I to do? My trail became a pond.. I gingerly walked on a fallen branch using my cane and got across. My balance is still in recovery mode .. I was sure I was going to slip in.. but I survived this challenge.

I must show my moose ribs preparation

6 hours later still not tender enough, but it tastes so yummy

I have been out and about... I have so many scenery photos that are gorgeous, how to choose the few to post. Pushing through leg soreness, itís almost like camp after working several days 10 to 12 hour days.. ( one of the reasons why I did leave camp) My knee is not the issue.. it is the legs, both legs and when hobbling down a incline itís actually both knees, the left one ( surgery one) causing the more discomfort, but both are letting me know Iím not in my twenties.
Bird life and animal life abounds in and around Squamish BC Canada.. where I call home right now.
I hope I donít bother you or cause you to roll your eyes.. here Marty goes again...
I will try to choose .. letís journey together...
(( I must mention this was in the afternoon on Monday.. I had to go pick up my wife ( Noni) from work after my early morning birdwalk. ))

This morning very early, sitting in my chair enjoying the quiet time.. Ring ring.. our phone blasts off and my wife is called in to work .. not sure if she was happy about me waking her up and handing the phone to her. Well I decided to drive her to work and keep the car so that I can go for a bird walk a little further from Squamish.
Definitely no place will be as beautiful as this area if I should decide to relocate..
why.. well .. look at my walk this morning.. very early..

Not sure what happened but somehow I pinched a nerve I think and goodness I can barely walk. I am in so much pain trying to get around. I am mostly on my back now with a heating pad trying to get rid of this. It's been four days and as soon as I feel it's getting better bang its back. Right in the lower back.

If I skip a day here or these I am sorry but it just hurts to much to sit in one spot for very long.

I was sitting comfortably in my chair yesterday, the sun was shining and I decided not to waste the day and head out to birdwatch. Well as soon as I got out the sunshine hid .. and it returned shortly after I returned home. Just my lot in life this day..
However it still was a glorious day and Iím so happy to had gone out. I was able to photograph two rare birds for me.. not lifers as I have seen them before but certainly a rarity.. and even more difficult to photograph the one.
Well letís go on a photo journey of my little hobble .. my knee is mending....

Today being Sunday, itís very overcast, I think Iíll stay in this day.. read, watch TV and have a nap.
Iím restless.. I think a change is or should happen.. I have this uneasy back of my mind that we should move ... leave Squamish.. to where I donít know... what would Noni and I Do? I donít know..
all I do know is there is a growing uneasiness.. an unhappiness ....

I think I posted before.. last year was the beginning of major changes..
Not returning to Camp Summit
Death of my beloved Dalhouise
Knee surgery
Death of my Mom.
All things that were tying me down to Squamish have been removed...

I have notified work of needing time off in the first week of June. airfares purchased , car rental, hotel and funeral and reception room reserved on my credit card. I may still need to do some tweets to get all the times to line up. My Credit card will take a beating... the stresses of life , or is this stresses of death?
Edna Marquette is going home to rest on June 3

This was a stressful couple of days trying to arrange all this. As I started to reserve a hotel, my first choices were way to expensive and were already booked full. After talking to the people at the cemetery they told me to call a funeral home to book a reception room.. 3000 dollars for the hour they quoted me.. this drove my stress level to the roof.. so I recalled my hotel that I had managed to reserved a room at and reserve a meeting room also for 300 dollars to hold the ceremony of life at. Food for the reception, at the moment a friend in Kingston is willing to take care of that so I donít need to worry or deal with.
Last time I traveled to Toronto I almost didnít have a car rental.. so I reserve one already now.
Finally I booked my airline tickets.. finding one that fit the times I wanted wasnít as easy as I thought , I used a friend who owns a travel agency..
I guess a question ought to be .. what comes first when trying to plan all this.. well for better or worse I think my plan will all come together... it will be a stressful visit to Kingston...

A couple of days have gone by, I choose not to use the cane to assist me walk. My knee has new aches and tinges of discomfort
Today is wet, wet, wet. However I went out looking for birds and I sure was not disappointed. All todayís photos were taken from the car window, only thing wet on me was my arm and pant leg next to the door from having my window open.

Lucky us that your car was perfect for the snow and ice. What a sweet husband you are to drive Noni. The pictures are wonderful! I especially liked the bald eagles!

Thanks Marty!

If I had a choice I probably would have stayed inside all day. However Noni my wife had to go to work this afternoon. She has almost zero experience driving in snow or freezing rain. There is none of that in Indonesia. So I decided to drive her to and from work. Well Iím out so after I dropped her off at work I went a little further to a bird spotting area I knew about. White knuckles as I drove down a road that was not plowed and a hill that had me worried about if I could get back up. This is a new car to us, no worries .. front wheel drive and new snow tires on the vehicle. It drove through the snow with not a slip and that hill that I was worried about.. well I was on top before I even realized it was there.

Woke up this morning to find another blast of winter has blown in.
My eyes are straining as I look out the window as I write this.. is it raining or is it a very fine snow falling? This is not common for Squamish BC Canada. I had knee surgery on October 24 and Iím still off work due to complications.. but it is also interfering with walks, hiking and definitely no snowshoeing will happen. If I was to take any pleasure in this winter storm it would of been getting out for a snowshoe. Dalhouise didnít like it when I took him with me.. I remember the last time I tried to bring him snowshoeing he ran back and waited by the car refusing to follow me .. after that I never took him again.

Joanna I live Squamish BC Canada

This morning is so beautiful with the sun shining. Not walking except at the grocery store for an hour and spending too much money for food. The drive to and from the grocery store was awesome.

Goodbye Mom..
I was phoned at 2:58am by the Registered Nurse where my Mom lived. She has passed away.
My wife and I went and sat with her for awhile longer. Now her body is on the way to be cremated, never to be seen by us or family again.
Sometime next spring weíll travel from BC to Kingston Ontario for a celebration of life and a final burial.
Already some of her friends and family are saying finally she will come back home.
She regretted her move to BC but for health reasons could not return.

Lovely pictures. The mountains almost look like an area of the Tetons we saw last summer. We did see a couple of snow patches then and I am sure there is lots now.
I hope and pray your mom is at peace and that you are as well.

Well here it is again the beginnings of a new year.
2019, was not so good
Circumstances led me not to return to Camp Summit,
I had to put my Dalhouise down after 16 years of being together
My mother is in palliative care just waiting to die as I write this
I had the long waited knee surgery, Iím still off work because of that.
And so here we are .. Christmas Eve 2019 ..
