To me this means that my weight loss goals are small. If I achieve them before my deadline, then I can be less strict with my diet. I don't want to lose weight rapidly.

You don't have to eat the whole thing.

The Slowest Loser means I have support in what I do best - lose weight SLOWLY. I like what was said that "a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step." For me, the journey of a 75 pound weight loss begins with one ounce.

The first week I lost 4.6 lbs. I was so excited. This last week I only lost .8 lbs. Disappointed I must say as I have been exercising and watching my intake of foods. I was glad I read some of the comments especially "Keep on swimming" as my exercise of choice is water aerobics. So I will keep plugging along and be glad for the weight loss I have achieved, as my weight could have gone up, up and up. As I look back I have also lost 1/2 to 1 inch in my measurements. So I am grateful and now on to aerobics!

The slowest loser team and way of life was a big wake up call for me.

In Spring of 2006 a month after I got married I joined Spark for the first time. When I set up my goals I chose the shortest time span possible to lose 45 pounds. I wasn't even able to stick to that time frame because I lost weight so fast. 40 pounds in 2 1/2 months. I was on such an extreme diet and workout plan that there was no "learning a new lifestyle" because there was no way I could have maintained that pace.

So, life went on and 145 pounds became 155 and then 170... all the way to my top weight of 191 pounds after I gave birth to my daughter. It wasn't until she was 1 year old that I had had enough of my body being so out of control. I went to my doctor and explained that I wanted to lose weight while breastfeeding. He told me something I had read a millions times before, "I want you to aim for 1-2 pounds of loss a week. Don't focus too much on the calories you take in, just play with it until you get it right." And I swear it just clicked. I came home, signed up for Spark again and shortly after found this group. PERFECT!

Now, I focus on building my book of healthy recipes, trying to get myself more physically fit, and most of all keeping my mind happy and healthy.

Slow and steady. After all who wants to rush through the only life we get?

I get very frustrated by people telling me to Stop smoking , Stop eating junk food, only drink diet drinks. get more exercise........ I hate being told that I MUST do something it causes me to totally rebel (guess I never grew out of that phase) But I am ME and I like being different and doing things my way. I am an adult (42 years old) I take responsibility for my own life choices.
That is why I love Spark and why I joined the teams I have especially the slowest loser team because here I can learn and ask questions and make informed choices as I choose in my own way and my own time.

The Slowest Loser's team means that I am not in a race to lose the most in the shortest amount of time. I can relax, let the good habits of drinking water and eating fruits and veggies sink in. I will be happy if I stay the same or lose a bit each week, but I don't want to go back up again! I have been going on binges again and getting depressed.
I have lost all hope and stopped exercising. I don't want to be in an "all or nothing" mindset any longer.

It means that a trip of a thousand miles on foot. starts with the first step.....baby steps in my case.......and I am not alone in my journey of a thousand miles....or weight loss of 60 pounds. One little step at a time, one pound at a time...one friend's encouragement at a time....one less splurge at a time....one decision at a time.... I don't know if that answers the question.....for me it does.

It means that I don't have to beat myself up for a only having a little bit of progress. Instead, I can congratulate myself for reaching that point, no matter how small it may be. Being here means that I don't have to worry about keeping on par with everyone else - I just need to do what's best for me and my body, even if that means losing weight at a slow pace.

Joining the Slowest Loser Team means to me that I have finally accepted my body and the pace at which it sheds fat. I am going for long-term, lifetime, healthy lifestyle finally. I used to set myself up with unrealistic deadlines which were never met of course, and I would give up over and over.

I still have a deadline (it serves as one of my motivaters) but it is 19 months, @ 4.2 lbs per month on the average. I figured out that is 21 lbs every 5 months. Now that adds up to some big losses!! I am currently into month 4. On my Sparkpage you will see a series of over 20 Mini-Goals that I've set up for myself. I even have a goal to re-evaluate my final wt goal LOL.

I have been on my health journey for nearly 4 years. I started out at 205 and have arrived at about 145. It has been a journey of phases, adaptation, learning new habits, growing skills, growing knowledge, emerging interests and self discovery. Those things take time. They are things to be relished, treasured and explored. If I was the rapid "hare" I doubt if I would have realized the self fulfillment that has accompanied the weight and health change. Have I been frustrated by those who appear to race by me- snickering a bit as they do..... Yes ( at first) but then I realized my journey is a personal one. I have come to learn and recognize the terrain. Dips, holes, bushes or puddles do not knock me off the path because I recognize they are "part" of the path; I've learned they are necessary and I can use them as tools to continue. The "hares" may not develop this sixth sense of understanding. They may jump on and off the path again and again (I have also been a hair in the past). As individuals we each look for the tools that will help us succeed. Some chose dynamite- others a chisel. But whatever our tool, I have learned that I am currently a tortoise and I can wear that label with pride. My work ID has a picture of me at 205lbs- it has been said... You should get a new picture- that doesn't even look like you anymore...my response "nah, it's still me- I was just wearing a different shell..."

Being a "slowest loser" is much better, by far, than being any kind of a "gainer". And because I am not one of those people who just stays where they are for any length of time, if I'm not losing, then I'm gaining. So what if it takes another year to lose another 10 pounds? In the meantime, I've learned a lot about myself and how I "tick" - and also have gathered up a lot of great benefits that would have been unlikely to get any other way..

Do it, NOW!

To me it means I don't have to be that person everyone oohs and aahs about because they lost 7 lbs in a week and hits goal in 5 months. That just probably won't happen with the insulin resistance and way I've treated myself all of my years. It means that slow and steady wins the race and persistence is the key to success.

"A river cuts through rock, not because of its power, but because of its persistence." - Jim Watkins

I will be the river that cuts through all of my years of being overweight, even if it takes me twice or three times as long as the average person. I will do it and will have my head on right during the proess. The river of success will flow through me.

Learning a new way to live!

The Slowest Loser means I don't have to lose a set number of pounds that everyone else is losing. We are on the same road but we are stretched out on that road and our progress is different than anyone elses. Some are going faster than others, some are zig-zagging along the way especially in the beginning. We are all smelling the flowers and enjoying the sunshine and so each little step we take is a wonderful achievement that we savor and can praise ourselves and give a WooHoo! We are doing it! Jean

me too. and i think that's part of the problem ... if you think you're fat when you're not, it doesn't really make any difference to you when you really become fat ... which I have. i've been at a plateau here since December, more or less ... gained a little & lost it back ... did 28-day boot-camp in January and continued ... record everything i eat ... work out 6 days a week ... bought a tape measure and I definitely do feel better ... this team means support for getting through the plateaus .... i'm not exactly in a rush ... but would like to resume the downward trend, however slowly. but i am definitely healthier and fitter ...

I have battled with weight since 16 (though I would kill to weigh what I weighed then!!) when my gymnastic coach mentioned I was a chubby gymnast- had me work out in the football weight room that just made my thighs larger (poor training). Body Image Issue Start!!

I have tried many "diets"- even crazy ones in attempts to lose weight. I have been successful many times- so losing I can do, it is keeping it off that is difficult (actually until now the losing has become difficult also). One time I actually made LIFETIME MEMBER using Weight Watchers, and I kept it off for about 3 years (when I had to leave being a SAHM and get a full time job outside of my care taking/home managing position at home). Of course slowly all the weight came back on. But what I do remember from this most successful attempt is it took me TWO years to lose 60 pounds... and then I kept it off for 3 years. So I do think Slow and Steady Wins the Race-- but now what I have to do is stay in the race NO MATTER WHAT (stop using life happenings as excuses to bail on the race).

This is the first group of people that I have met up with (and can't wait to meet) that embraces the slow losing method. I have been her since November and stayed in stage 1 for 70 days before going to Stage 2- just to get through the holidays. I have finally got a great routine of eating well, journaling, drinking my water, and exercising 4 times a week. You would think a person that came from Couch Potato status to now Jogging would be dropping weight fairly easily.. NO. You would think someone who went from eating burgers and fries, and snaking on cheese and crackers mindlessly eating to eating 5/6 fruits and veggies a day, working within a 1200- 1500 calorie range would drop weight fairly quickly... NO.

My last weigh day (Thursday mornings) I dropped a total of 3.7 pounds... when I cheated and peeked today- it looks like I went up again (not much but still up) and I have been measuring my food and increasing my workouts... makes no sense.

I have decided that I am going to focus on how I am FEELING. And I feel SO MUCH better- I have more energy, things don't irritate me easily, I am happy- it is keeping my depression at an all time low, and I am empowered by my new sense of self control. So I figure even if the weight isn't coming off and it is playing games on me... I am in a much better place.

So I am psyched to have found this team!!! I will keep on keeping on... and stay in this race!

To me being a member of the slowest loser's team means that I am trying to give thoughtful contemplation to my health and that I understand that this go round is the last and permanent. My goal is to get out of the obese range this year - and never come back. Thank you for this chance to focus on where I'd like to be... emoticon

I feel as though I am losing weight too slowly. I have lost an average of 2kg per month, just over 4lb a month. At least on this team there are others in the same boat.

It means to me that if I have not lost any weight this week (or month) that I am still an ok person. It means that I can live my life normally and still have a downward trend. I know that if I track my food the weight will eventually come off. It means that if I want a sweet or more veggies, I can have it, and it won't destroy my progress. It means that I am given lots of time to make this way of living and eating a lifetime habit. It means that I am not alone in this slow process. And, hopefully, by losing slowly, it will mean that I will be able to maintain my loss because I have not been on a diet. There is nothing to 'go off of.' This way of eating will never end.

This team supports me in what I know is right for my body. When I don't eat enough calories, I tend to get run down and sick often. Also, when I exercise too hard, I get hurt and then can't exercise at all. It re-afirms that eating healthy and exercising regularly is best for my health. I lose weight slowly but don't gain it back. I'm more content and less stressed at this slower rate. Thank you so much!

The slowest loser to me means taking time to make a lasting impression on your life during this lifetime goal. Not giving up or being so hard on yourself if you do not see immediate results but instead taking what you do know works to make small permanent steps.

Slowest Loser is life affirming for me. I want to be able to eat fois gras, chocolate truffles and good red wine now and then, have dinner with my friends without feeling that I'm being punished, or that I'm not sufficiently responsible to be trusted with grown-ups food. I took Christmas and New Year "off", went to Paris and have eaten some wonderful meals. But I didn't go crazy, and over December and January, I've lost about half a kilo. Not much for two months, but I'm happy with it, and plan to ratchet things up a bit in February - maybe even mosey on down to 140lbs. I've learned that the slower the weight comes off, the more likely it is to stay off.

You can take the girl out of London, but - thank goodness - you can't take London out of the girl.

the slowest loser team means safety and security to me. I feel safe and secure knowing that I'm not the only one that loses weight slowly. That Im not alone in my journey of frustrating weeks of no weight loss, or weeks of gaining for no reason. Everyone is in the same boat and we all row the boat, just at different intervals. We support each other much like the water holds the boat afloat. People understand you and where you are coming from. that is what this team means to me.

Just adding another comment that seems to be appropriate for this team's outcome: It recently occurred to me crash dieting and fast weight loss was much like cramming for a test. You work like crazy for your goal but then you lose it as soon as the goal is met. Slow and steady wins the race, and retains the lessons learned along the way.

It means I have permission to go at my own pace, and the world will not end if I slip up. It means I can stay sane during this process, and not obsess if my progress doesn't happen exactly as it's "supposed" to.

It means that when I feel down or frustrated, I can log on and read the messages of like-minded folks who also feel frustrations from time to time, but are plugging away anyway with optimism and good humor. It means we can share our experiences, and collectively know that we didn't gain this weight overnight, nor is it going to come off all at once.

It means I can go at my own pace. there's no rush to get there--I don't have to go to that crazy place (and I've been there before but not kept the weight off) of obsessive exercising and starvation diets.

It means that it's about progress and real change--just moving in the right direction not about having to get there really fast.

It means that there are others who are going slowly, but going in the right direction, and that's what it's all about.

It means I can feel OK no matter how long this takes-it's enough that I'm moving forward.

When I lost 35 pounds in 2001, it took me only 5 months. I kept it off for about 2.5 years. This time around--maybe older, maybe lazier, maybe just ???--it has taken 2 years to lose 30 pounds (and I have gained some of that back already).
It is nice to know I am not alone in all of this--slowest loser, back and forth, etc. I love you guys...
