I shared this elsewhere, but thought I 'd share with you friends, too:
So, my 51st birthday is today. Hubby took the whole family out bowling, something he has been unable to do for thirty years because of his bad back. He had SOOO much fun! We'll see how he feels tomorrow, though! lol I didn't realize what a workout bowling is! Gee!
It was especially nice because my three oldest boys (22, 21, and 19) who each have busy schedules of their own with either marine prep or a fiancé, all joined us.
Afterwards we went to Pizza Oven, our favorite pizza place, then came home and some of us watched a movie on Prime.
Then we ate a cake that my youngest daughter, 12, baked and decorated herself.
I had created a tradition with my kids many years ago with a 3-candle candle holder. I light the candles and after we sing Happy Birthday, I point to each candle and say, "Thank you, Lord for ______'s past, thank your for his present, and may God bless his future." Then the child would blow them out.
Well, today, the youngest got it down from the high shelf, my 14 yr old daughter put fresh candles in it, and then my 19 yr old actually TOOK THE TIME to say the blessing over the candles. DUDE! That …..was.....really....cool.

After eating the delicious cake, I washed my plate off, and a couple of other things. The kids told me to stop washing the dishes.
"It's your BIRTHDAY, Mom!" so I stopped.
Then they added, "You can do them TOMORROW."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
My 19 yr old is busy in the kitchen behind me doing them right now.
Those kids!

Hubby is taking me out on Monday to a store that makes wooden plaques with carved words in them. I want one to hang above my fireplace that says, "Behold, the Bridegroom Cometh" referring to Christ's return, but blending in with all the generations of family weddings that I have displayed in my new living room. I wonder how much it will cost!

Oh yeah. My 17 yr old daughter bought me two facial masks that says, "Anti-aging".

HER birthday is in September. I WILL get her back.

In her defense, she bought me other things, too. haha

Just before I moved a 2ed cousin gave me a box of pictures from my grandmother. While packing I found a box of My father in law's newspaper clippings. I put them in the same box planning on sorting them out and filing them when we got moved. Well Fancy, tabby cat, decided to turn the box over this morning. Now they really need sorted. Got to love those little bundles of energy.

Asking for prayer coverage for a fellow sparker. I came across someone who is in desperate need of finding hope and a reason to live. She stated that she 'regrets her decision', but did not say what she was referring to. I'm concerned about her. She wrote it today, and has no friends on her page, no feeds, not blogs. I sent Scripture to her. this happened around 11:50pm Monday night that I noticed it.

Does anyone have particular goals they'd like to reach this week?
Mine is either 50 minutes on the rebounder M-F, or swim for one hour.

Rebounding for the past 3 weeks brought me down 10 lbs. Eager to see what this week brings me.

Mary Alice, that sounds a lot like my mystery soup. I take a small piece of beef, about 2-3 ounces and cut it in tiny pieces. Add beef broth and whatever veggies I have cut in small pieces. I always add a can of diced tomatos and I love a little cabbage in it. If I use frozen veggies I add them towards the end. Many times I set this up in the a.m. and let it cook all day. (About 8 hours). Yummy, warm and easy. My kind of meal.

My husband asked for the soup his grandmother made. Turns out it is whatever veggies you have available, He likes lots of carrots and potatoes in it. What ever spices you like and tomato juice. I can't have meat so I use veggie broth and tomato juice or low salt V8. If you are using hard veggies, stick it in the crock pot for 8 hours. If you are using soft veggie a 4 hours on low works great or for both start the hard veggies, add the soft veggies about half way and if you are adding spinach, kale or other greens add the about 30 minutes before serving. Since I can't have meat, I add beans or lentils. Most dry beans, boil and add early, Lentils add an hour before serving, caned beans about 30 minutes before serving. A meat eater will have to help you with meat.

I took a break from packing and visited with daddy's second cousins. They gave me a box of pictures and letters. Some of the pictures have names on the back, most don't. Most of the letters have an address I can read and/or start Dear mom and are signed by a first name. When I get moved in I'll work on figuring out how they fit in the tree.

One picture has a little girl with blond curls and the brights blue eyes, My sister has the same curls, but hers are strawberry blond, and those bright blue eyes, My cousins, closest thing I can think of to call them, think it is my Great Grandmother, but I don't think so, The picture does't look near that old. Nor does the dress she is wearing.

I found another DNA match to my grandfathers family proving once again that my research has paid off. Now I am helping 2 distant cousins find their families as they never knew this side of their family. My new cousin lost his dad at 6 and my other cousin's mother was adopted. Sorting these out has become a bit of an obsession. LOL

I was at a dead end on my great grandmother on my fathers side. I knew my great grandmother had done a family tree and felt for sure if I could find it I would get be able to move on. Well, daddy told me that before she died she destroyed the tree because she found an unsavory person. A cousin and I went nuts for years trying to find a copy, then out of the blue, the son of my great grandmother's second son's 4th wife by her first husband. Contacted me that he had a copy of the tree. I never did know why he had it. I didn't care. I took it and started researching the names. Since my family was in TX before TX was a country, birth and death records were more likely in a family bible than a government office.

I met another distant relative on-line who is actually a professional historian and genealogist. He is unloading documents to people who have common ancestors. I hit the jackpot. He sent a huge packet of documents to me for my files. He was happy to give them a home with someone who would appreciate it.

What you did do is a good plan. One you don't feel the same everyday, somedays you the weather , doctor appointments what have you won't let you do what you planed and then there is if you write down what you did you can see your improvement

For the next three months, until my March doctor appointment, I have decided to not write down what I am GOING to do, but what I HAVE DONE, to further my fitness goal.
I'm a good dreamer and planner, but a poor executioner. Not good with follow-through.
So, instead of getting my hopes up in what I MIGHT do, I make myself proud (or not proud) of what I DID get accomplished.
So yesterday, I used my rebounder for 30 minutes. I was aiming for the length of a tv show I was watching, but my back was hurting too badly, so I stopped at 30, and did some stretches with my daughter (who just returned from her Irish Dance class). It felt so good!
Then I soaked in the tub. Feeling much better today.

Frankly, I don't care what they use my DNA for as long as it is legal and moral. I am with Ancestry DNA and I even ok'd their request to use it for research.

My daughter gave herself a DNA test for Christmas. I'm 2ed generation English and Swedish, on my mothers side. Well I didn't do her fathers tree, she asked me if I knew anything about his family and told her he said he was German. Yesterday she told me she is stuck in Sweden. Her father is German and Swedish.

She wants her husband to take a test, but he doesn't see a need. He was born in a part of Mexico where most babies are born at home, delivered by a relative. The law says they are to register the babies bird at the police station. You just walk in say I/my wife had a baby. They give you a form to fill out and that's it.

It was the same way where I lived in Belize. Most people did register the babies birth, but the US was fighting it. Since you didn't have to show the babies or have any proof. many people were adopting a baby this way.

I did read in the newspaper about GlaxoSmithKline doing this deal. If I was a customer of theirs I wouldn't be very happy about this.
I gave myself an enormous (as in expensive ) Xmas gift. I bought many of my family and extended family dna kits. They aren't very interested in the testing or findings but maybe later some of them will change their minds. Right now I set all of them so I have access
to the results.

That's important information to know Dave. Thank you. I was going to finally cave and do the DNA testing, but I'm back to "no way."

Has anyone heard about 23 and Me selling their DNA data to the big pharma company GlaxoSmithKline?

My husband is buying me a one-year subscription to Ancestry! Yea!!!!!!
And then he is taking me on two dates. The first one is out to eat at a local restaurant after visiting the museum to study some old city maps I've been wanting to get my hands on.

I was so happy to have a 3rd cousin email me because we matched through our DNA. Now we just have to figure out our connection.
