My family came from Ste. Genevieve - about 60 miles south of St. Louis. Several of them are still there

Good one, Dave.

I don't think I ever would recognize someone as being from Michigan. I have a cousin still living there who grew up there and I never noticed an accent different from the rest of the family.

I guess in some areas of the country people would have the kind of accents their ancestors had several generations ago. I know that in Minnesota there have been many with Scandinavian accents like from Norway. I never noticed in Illinois, but across the river from St. Louis is a large German area. That's where my Mom's ancestors were from.

I recognized strangers in a restaurant as being from Michigan.

I didn't interrupt their meal or anything! We were sitting by a fireplace waiting for tables.

I'm the only person I know that doesn't have an accent. Everybody else does, though.

Everybody has some kind of accent, though many people don't believe it. I think most of the midwestern and western states of the U.S. have the same type of accent (or close to it). When I was in college one of my professors guessed where I was from and guessed either France or Missouri. He was close with Missouri, but I only lived there for 9 weeks and was too young to develop an accent then (born there, moved to Denver at 9 weeks).

I don't have the type of accent that would give anyone any idea of where I am from. Maybe if I was in the south for a while, since I picked up that accent when I was in Kentucky the week or two we were at Kentucky Lake.

Yes, I'm told I'm the only person they know around here that has a Texan drawl and a British accent. Daddy is 4 generation Texan and I live in Texas now. Mom is first generation American. She was raised in New England by by British parents.

Objects in the mirror will get thinner than they now appear
