I have been thinking on this for several weeks ...
planning for the next year. This year has been
full of surgery... dental surgery to remove my
teeth and am healing, hoping to get dentures
in Jan .. want to have full time to heal (6 months.)
I also had both knees replaced, 1 in May and
1 in Oct.. Still need to have cataracts removed
and I am seriously considering the gastric sleeve.

So ... this seems like a great start. I will need to
think this thru but am posting it now.

New Year, New Focus Challenge
Starts January 1st!

This challenge is about you. Itís not about me making choices for you, but about you deciding what choices you need to make to change your health, your weight, your fitness,or whatever you need to change this coming New Year. Not some ambiguous change, but a specific change.

Our first challenge will be to set three goals.
Goal 1: What do you want to accomplish this year? Be specific and be realistic. My goal is to get down to 180 pounds this year. I will weigh on the morning of the first and see how many pounds that entails. If you have a fitness goal - then make it a specific number of miles either running or walking that you want to attain - or a specific number of sets and weights. If itís a health goal then you could make it to get off of a certain medication by the end of the year using diet and exercise to attain that goal.

Goal 2: Break down that first goal into monthly goals. For me, that would be losing so many pounds each month, somewhere between three and four pounds per month.

Goal 3: A weekly goal. How am I going to accomplish my monthly goal? Again, specific and realistic. My first weekly goal is going to begin with treats. I am going to cut out treats during the week and allow myself a treat on Sunday only. I donít know if that is realistic for me right now since I am used to eating treats every day right now - but I am going to try. If I canít do it, I might add a treat on Wednesday the next week.

Each week we will add another weekly goal while continuing our last weekly goal, adjusting as we go along making sure that we are able to maintain what we have set for ourselves. We will check in here to be accountable with each other and to let each other know how we are doing. I know that for me, it keeps me going to know others are with me.

DONíT GIVE UP. I canít tell you how many times I have given up and then looked back and wished I had kept on going because now I had to make up that weight and more - if I had just kept on going I would be ahead of the game! When you feel like giving up, check in and let us know - we will be there for you!!!

We can do this! God is on our side, and I am on your side, and you are on my side! Get ready for the 1st!

If you are tired of starting over, stop giving up !

Exercise is a celebration of what your body
can do, not a punishment for what you ate.

We haven't been using this thread lately, but Kim always comes up with a new challenge going into the New Year.

It would do all of us good to get back into the challenges of this thread! If you want to get active on the thread, I'm sure that others will follow you.

I WISH I HAD SEEN THIS THREAD SOONER. I LOVE THIS IDEA KIM! SO HERE WE GO.

MY MAIN GOAL WOULD BE TO GET DOWN TO 140 POUNDS OR LESS SO I CAN HAVE MY KNEES FIXED ONCE DH IS NO LONGER LIVING AT HOME.

I WOULD BE VERY HAPPY TO LOSE 4 POUNDS A MONTH. I HAVE BEEN YO-YOING BETWEEN 168 AND 178 FOR OVER A YEAR AND THAT HAS TO STOP.

FIND SOME WAY TO GET OUT AND EXERCISE. SINCE I CAN'T LEAVE HIM ALONE - EVER - I CAN NO LONGER WALK ALL THE FLOORS OF THE BUILDING LIKE I USED TO DO. SO I WILL INCREASE THE NUMBER OF CHAIR EXERCISES I DO.

I WILL LOSE THAT 4 POUNDS A MONTH BY WATCHING CARBS AND EATING MORE FRUITS AND VEGETABLES. WATER IS NEVER AN ISSUE WITH ME SINCE I DRINK ABOUT 120 OUNCES A DAY. THAT'S A PRETTY GOOD START. OF COURSE, THIS WILL VARY FROM DAY TO DAY DEPENDING ON THE DEMANDS PLACED ON ME.

MY TREAT TO MYSELF WILL BE TO ALWAYS TAKE TIME TO SHUT DOWN (ELECTRONICALLY) AND READ FOR AT LEAST AN HOUR BEFORE BED.

I am sorry that I haven't been getting back to the thread lately. I went from influenza to pneumonia to bronchitis and it was a rough few weeks! When I finally got to where I was feeling half way decent, I got into a really wild week at work. I'm just glad that I was feeling okay before it got here!.

I am a little under goal weight, but haven't done a lot of work to get there. I gained during the illness, mostly due to the steroids that they put me on. I also ate mostly crackers and toast during that time and I usually limit my carbs. I still am having trouble looking vegetables in the face! Luckily I have found riced cauliflower and have used it and low-calorie cole slaw to supplement the veggies.

Hope all is well with you guys.....I will be better about checking in!

I have been doing really well with my step challenge. The challenge is for only 4000 steps a day. The problem has been that I naturally get about 5,000 steps during weekdays without even trying. The challenge isn't really making me work. I am not Catholic, but for lent I decided to give up electronic entertainment at lunch time and after 10:30 p.m. (I will need to be off of here soon.) So, now I get out and walk, pray, or read during these times. This step tracker does run down my phone battery, but I can turn this one off and on, which helps some.

I haven't looked at my memory verses, but I memorized Ephesians 4:29-32 for a Bible Study I attend. I am still doing great with my water!

I am sorry to hear of the ailments. I said a prayer for you all and will continue.

I actually saw 208 on the scale Friday, but then I had too many occasions to go astray this weekend. Like you, Kim, I am just thankful I am holding the 210. My walking has been going very well. I am ahead of schedule on steps. The first pedometer I tried on my phone dropped about 20 steps each time before it decided I was walking. So, I was constantly counting and adding steps. It also ran down my battery. I found a new pedometer for my phone that is more accurate. We'll see what it does to my phone battery. I am still doing fine on water. I haven't even read my memory verse this week.

I'm so sorry y'all aren't doing well. I'm still dealing with brain zaps and my allergies are going crazy with this warm weather we are having. At least it isn't the flu, that would be terrible! I hope you are both feeling better very soon. You are in my prayers.

I'm holding steady around 211. Praise the Lord it isn't going higher than that!

God bless, Kim

Sharon - praying for your finger. Bill's incision has healed really well, but it was on the face and they say that the closer to your brain, the quicker you heal.....

I am just a mess right now. I guess I have gotten the flu from my husband and just feel like something the cat drug in. I have to keep going to work, but I'm afraid that I am going to be giving others this gunk. It's not an easy choice.

I haven't been able to post , I get almost done typing and it won't type !! I'm not doing well with challenges and losing weight ! My finger isn't healing right and isn't closing up . It's been 3 weeks and they took out the stitches because there were very itchy blisters all around the incision . Dr glued it together and put steri strips on it but that didn't work either ! I have to keep a splint on so it doesn't bend and split more . I'm supposed to keep a bandaid on too but then the blisters get worse . It's also pretty ugly . I may have to get it stitched again ! emoticon emoticon

Those sound like really good goals!

I'm working on getting more protein in my diet and less carbs. So far that is going really well. My weight has been coming down since the weekend.
I am also working on getting the FODMAPs out of my diet [FODMAPs is an acronym, coined by two Australian researchers, Sue Shepherd and Peter Gibson, that refers to Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides and Polyols. In short, FODMAPs are small chain sugars and fibers that are poorly digested and can contribute to gas, bloating and other digestive woes.] If you want to learn more about FODMAPs, here is a good site to go to: www.katescarlata.com/fodmaps/

Assessment of goals.

Goal 1: Lose 21 pounds this year. I am ahead on this one as I have lost 5 pounds in 6 weeks.

Goal 2: Lose 2 pounds a month. Same as above. Participate in the "Find 10" challenge. This had some set backs and was not really motivating me. I am dropping it for a daily step plan. For my health plan at work they have ways to earn points toward a discount for the following year. This week they have started a challenge on steps 4000 a day for seven weeks. Total: 196,000 steps by April 3. At the same time I am taking the Governor's Weight Loss Challenge as it will also gain me points. This is based on most weight lost at the end of the challenge in May. I hope the points toward my health discount, $$$, will be a better motivator.

Goal 3: Follow the challenge I am currently on. This will now look differently. I will get a minimum of 4000 steps a day with at least one 10 minute continuous session. I will still drink 8 cups of water daily.

I plan to pick up the Bible memory goal as well.

Thanks, y'all. I'm doing much better. I had some zaps last night, the first after a couple of days without any - gulp - and I'm having some of the eye trouble that I was having before as well, but I expect that it is still just some of the withdrawal symptoms lingering on. I'm doing much better than I was, especially since the emotions are under control!

Eating is out of control! Carbs have taken control and I am eating treats whenever I want to. I think it's because I just don't have easy access to proteins. The protein drink that we normally get has this new formula that makes it this gloppy mess - yuck. So we are needing to get me something else. And there isn't any of the yogurt that I like in the fridge (just the fruit on the bottom stuff - another yuck). I've been doing just protein at dinner for the most part, but breakfast this morning was two plain biscuits - not good - but handy! Wade did buy me some protein cereals, and I have soy milk to put on it, but I just didn't feel up to even that this morning. I did eat a Zone Perfect protein bar for lunch.

I did do my arm exercises and my squats yesterday and have done some of my squats today.

God bless, Kim

I'm so sorry for you Kim. That sounds scary! Hang in there. I am praying for you.

I have had an off week myself. Work has been stressful. No exercise and I binged on chips & salsa one day. Another day I drank too much pop and not enough water.

I sent a note to my doctor via my patient portal yesterday, so I haven't heard from him.

I'm having a really hard time right now. I'm having a lot of zaps today. Sometimes I will have four in a row. My eyes have been going wonky as well, but I'm not sure that has to do with the zaps. They just kind of zap themselves and go out of focus for a second. If I look up and away I get dizzy. Sometimes it's also with the zaps which makes me think that they are related. I've also had mild to severe headaches for the past three days. And on top of that the congestion in my head has been worse as well and my ears are also full now too. My emotions are all over the place. I feel like I did right after I had my ovaries removed and am crying at the drop of a hat. (What a strange saying!) Please pray for me, y'all. This is a really hard time for me.

I was down a pound today, 208.4, from my original weight at the start. I haven't been working on my memory verse much because of all the head stuff going on, but I did work on it a little bit yesterday - nothing is sticking right now.

God bless, Kim

Can't say that I am doing very well on any of my goals. I am not feeling very well right now. I am having some strange side effects to going off of my duloxetine, and anti-anxiety medication. I have been having "brain zaps" and they can be very disconcerting as well as causing me to feel dizzy and my eyes to go buggy. I googled the symptoms and found a site that explained that this is a side effect of going off of this kind of medication. They don't know how long this will last, but tapering off, like I did, helps to make the symptoms easier and shorter in duration. I also read that taking fish oil helps as well. I started taking that again yesterday and have had fewer of the zaps today. I've been having several of the zaps each hour, sometimes several in a minute, but today I can go for several minutes without any zaps, so that is definitely an improvement. Praise the Lord. I just Praise the Lord I know what is causing the problem. I'm also very congested in my head and ears, so overall I am just not thinking about anything else but staying on my feet!

Love y'all.

God bless, Kim

I remember that now. We go to the New Theater 3 or 4 times a year, but have found that we can do the $50 certificates they do at Christmas and it's really cheaper than the season tickets. I think the next one we will see will be the Million Dollar Quartet. Let me know how it is, if you see it before us. At least we always know the food will be great, but not low calorie!

Connie - I knew because we discovered this in common last February on the main thread. My husband and I have season tickets to The New Theater. We saw "The Fabulous Lipitones" early in January. As for being from the area, I now live in Manhattan, KS, but grew up in DeSoto, KS.

Connie, did you see "The Fabulous Lipitones" with George Wendt? That one is hilarious! His role in the play was so similar to his role of Norm on "Cheers".

I had that sore throat, achy, fever thing too. I had a long weekend and spent most of it in bed. One day all I wanted to do was eat things that scratched my throat. I was soooo bad that day. Then, today we went to the Dinner Theater and totally enjoyed all of the food (and a totally hilarious show). I am anxious to get back on track. Tomorrow I will be back on track.

After my last check-in I got sick again. Something totally different from week before. I had a very sore throat with a fever. The fever lasted two days, but I was on soft food for about a week, because it hurt to swallow most things. Well during that week I lost 5 pounds and have kept most of it off! I am eating less at meals. So now my level in the 5# club is accurate again. We will see how long I can continue this.

I quit the "Find 10" challenge, but have worked on doing my 10 minutes a day. It has been hit and miss, but gaining momentum in the hits. My water intake has been doing well. I have still not taken my Crystal Light jug back to work.

Sorry, I don't have my memory verse to recite. I will try to have it by the end of this week.

My problem is Wade. He likes to make treats and I like to join him! He also bought me a bag of jelly beans, so I eat some of those each day - just a small handful. Today I'm eating more though, I guess I like to eat when I'm lonesome. Wade and Mom will be home tomorrow and I will do better!

God bless, Kim

I have been doing well with the water/liquid intake. It's been hard on me with getting back to the water instead of Crystal Light. I am down to two cups of Crystal Light a day, though.

My weight is under goal, but not at the point that I really like to be. I am trying to not cheat but one day a week, but I have been so bad on those days! I really need to look at cheating a meal, not the entire evening....chocolate and all.

Sharon, have you tried the Greek triple zero yogurt? It tastes really good and doesn't have aspartame in it. There are quite a few not so well know yogurts (like Siggi's) that are very low in sugar, you would just have to look at the sugar content on each of them to find the one with the lowest sugar content. Some may be low in calories, but high in sugar!

Not doing so well with my eating the last couple of days. I will have to try and do without my treat this weekend.

God bless, Kim

Sharon, I have a friend that buys plain Greek yogurt and adds honey to it. She loves it that way. I would probably add vanilla, too, but that's my love of vanilla talking.

I had a form of thrush (oral yeast infection) and yogurt took care of it quickly. It was caused by a medication.

Sharon, I looked up Histamine in foods on Google and here are some links:
www.histamineintolerance.org.uk/abou

There were quite a few links, but these two mentioned food lists. I hope you get to feeling better soon.

Am doing alright with my exercise and memory verses! Not losing weight, but we still are holding out hope! LOL!

Hi, sorry I didn't check in emoticon I have been a little depressed . Plus I have to keep charging my tablet ! Wish you could leave it plugged in all the time ! I was told not to , it will affect the battery life .
I have another cancer on my finger and will have it checked by the surgeon to see if he can operate . Not much to pull together after taking out the lump and it may be deep. It's just above my wedding ring to the knuckle . So " tricky " being on/in the finger so close to a bone emoticon
I have gained about 5 lbs , most likely fluid , I don't take a diuretic unless absolutely necessary now ! Got to try and give my kidneys a break and I just can't make it to the bathroom fast enough , especially during the night .
I have walked now a few days a week but I have to ice my hip and knee after . I see the Rheumatologist next week then the surgeon and orthopedic Dr for shots in hips. emoticon I remember when our family Dr could take care of almost everything ! My co pay is $30 each so $90 in a week is a lot on fixed income and our taxes are due !! At least we can pay 1/2 in January rest in February . Hubbys insulin will be about $ 500 too next time .
So I guess my walking is my Feb addition ! Trying to get better with reducing my salt, sugar and carbs , some days better than others .
I don't eat yogurt but if I find some plain sugar free without aspartame I could add it to a 'smoothie ' . I wonder if it helps yeast infection like I had ( not vag. kind) I also wonder about the histamine in foods ? Where could I check that out ? emoticon

I'll probably keep it going for a couple of months, just so if there are people out there doing this but not checking in can keep up the momentum. If you and I end up being the only ones checking in after the next two weeks, I will probably stop it, since we know how to keep on and not give up! I want to be able to encourage others who are struggling to keep going, but it's been just you and I for several days now.

So far today I have done half of my squats and will do my arm exercises when I get off the computer. Working on my memory verses too.

God bless, Kim

Sticking with my water and calorie/carb counts. I don't think I will add anything in this week. I had a short "staycation" at the end of the week. I am looking forward to just "vegging" for a few days. I am tired, right now and need it more than putting more on my plate.

Kim - are we going to keep this thread going after the end of the month?

New week! Time to set a new goal if you need to.

My new goal is to move more. I want to do at least 30-40 squats a day and get in at least one set of arm exercises a day. If the day is warm I also want to get in a walk with the dog!

I am starting this week out at 210.4, a gain of 1.6 from last week. I've been yo-yoing between 208.8 and 211 all week. I have been moving more already, but want to make it a concerted effort this week. I hope I can make that 2 lb loss, but it doesn't look very promising.

My memory verse was Phil 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving make your requests known to God.

My new memory verses will be Ps. 121:1-4

God bless, Kim

Good for you, Connie. Right now I am yo-yoing between 208 and now 211. I was 211 yesterday and today I am 209.8. If only the scale would keep going down and stop going up and down!

Protein at every meal. I'm back to drinking my protein drink for breakfast rather than having cereal. I have a yogurt and then in the afternoon have a Clif Bar or another protein bar. Dinner is whatever is leftover or whatever I feel like at the time, leftovers, fish, whatever Wade wants. LOL!

Cigarette smoke kills me too. I don't even like to go to the house of someone who smokes all the time, it really bothers my breathing, even if they don't smoke when I am there. I have a cousin-in-law who is like that, and when Wade and Mom go and visit her they come back reeking of smoke and she didn't even smoke with them there. It's buried in her furniture! She also has a cat and I'm allergic to cat dander worse than dog dander, so I know it would be doubly bad.

Eating well, drinking fine, but not losing weight.

Wow, that is wild about the histamines. I have seasonal allergies, but don't usually suffer unless it is early spring or mid-fall. I will occasionally have an asthma attack, but that is usually triggered by cigarette smoke or a bon-fire.

Oh wow, that would be great. I know that I really like cauliflower made like mashed potatoes, so the riced cauliflower should be good too.

Eating well. Getting my liquids in. Sticking with my treat schedule, and haven't had a cracker in a couple of weeks! LOL!

I was reading in an article by Susy Cohen and she was talking about histamines in our food. She said that soy sauce has quite a few histamines, as does any liquid or food that has been fermented. She also said that the longer a left over sits, the more histamines it collects because it is fermenting. So if you have bad allergies (like moi) then don't eat left overs and be sparing with the fermented stuff. She mentioned some supplements to help, but I haven't checked them out.

oooohhhh - has anyone tried the riced cauliflower or riced cauliflower medley yet? Made chicken fried rice for lunch and it only had 161 calories and about 6 carbs. I used 2 ounces of grilled chicken, 1 cup of riced cauliflower medley, and "browned" it with butter pam. Then added an egg and voila....a little soy sauce and it was amazing.

I have been doing very well on the liquids. I refused to get back on the scale after the Mexican the other night (and the desert, and chocolate). I really blew it, but it was soooo good.

I am back on track and think that I will work on my same goals and not add more this week. I had thought that I would add in some extra exercise, but I am having major knee pain and think that walking approximately 7 miles a day at work is about all that it can handle.

I didn't do well on my memory verse. I only looked at it three or so times this week - I'll give it a go though
1 Tim 4:8 [for] bodily discipline is only of little profit, but godliness is profitable for all things;[,] for [since] it holds promise for this [the present] life and also for the life to come.
The stuff in the brackets is what I should have written rather than the word or mark before it.

Can't say that my liquids week went all that well. I did add more liquid to my diet, and learned that I can't take as much as I would like to. I can drink more than what the doctor originally said because taking the diuretics and drinking less isn't what is done for hyperlymphedema - the massage and socks are what keep the fluids moving. Taking the diuretic is keeping my hands and feet from swelling though and that is helpful. My tummy just can't take a lot of fluid, especially not having to guzzle it to get it in. I will have to keep an eye on my body and make sure that it is getting enough, that is the only way for me to tell I am getting enough.

My goal for this week is to get back on the low carb/high protein diet. I started by having my protein drink for breakfast rather than the cereal that I have been drinking.

My weight today was 208.8 - no change
My new memory verse: Php_4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

God bless, Kim

Here is my memory verse: "Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you might win." 1 Corinthians 9:24.

I also walked just over a mile in 20 minutes. That is my 10 minutes twice today. emoticon

As of this post, I have had 5 cups of water. emoticon

You're still doing good, Connie. Moderation should make going out, not a problem!

I'm wearing my compression socks, and when I think about it, usually every other day, I do my massage to move the fluid. I guess that will be me the rest of my life.

Went to a birthday for a one year old. Lots of healthy snacks, even healthy cupcakes. Woohoo!

Kim, hydration comes from many sources in your diet. I have read that there is really no magic in 8 cups. If other indicators are telling you that systems are doing well, I wouldn't worry about "8" cups.

Kim, we know that there is also a medical reason for limiting your fluid intake. How is that going, by the way.

I am going against my goals, today. I was very good for breakfast and lunch, but we are going out for Mexican tonight and I will be bad. I am within 4/10# of my goal weight, so it's not awful, but had said in my goal statement that I would not cheat unless under goal. Since I have not had a cheat day since the day after Christmas, I think I deserve it, even if I am not under goal. They guys have been really wanting to go for Mexican, so we will all be happy.

Connie, you sound like me - I have to guzzle to get the intake in! My problem is, water makes me nauseous - even the bottled kind. I can't drink it but for a sip or two at a time and it would take me all day to get through one bottle that way.

I am tweaking this weeks challenge because of that and the water is out. I'll drink my 20oz. cup of tea, my decaff coffee and my caffeinated coffee. I think I can get all of that in. Each cup of coffee is at least 12 oz. with the coffee and the milk - so I am getting 44oz of liquid a day. Most would say that isn't enough, but if I'm not thirsty and my urine is alright, it's enough for me!

Gotta work more on my memory verse!

God bless, Kim

Yesterday, 6 cups water, 2 cups Crystal Light, and at least a pot of caffeinated coffee.

Melinda - I don't mind drinking water at all, but I tend to chug it in order to get the intake. I have also found that I can drink more if it is room temperature. If I have good cold water, I tend to sip it.

Well, I didn't do very well the first week. I wasn't feeling well for several days and then went to the dinner theater last weekend. I kept my same goal.

This week got off to another rocky start, but has picked up. I have moved ten minutes each for two days. Not much, but it is a start. I am not sure what I will do this weekend with the ice coming in.

I too relied on Crystal Light for about half my water intake. I brought my pitcher home from work to clean over Christmas break and it is still on my kitchen counter. This has forced me to drink only water at work. I dislike water, but recently it hasn't been too hard. I have had 8 cups of water for 4 days now. If I don't return my pitcher to work, maybe I can keep this up. On the weekend I will have access to Crystal Light.

Showers of blessing from our Lord be yours, with the sunshine of His love, that you may see clearly the rainbow of His promises.

Did well on the water intake yesterday - over 8 cups of all water.

Today so far, 6 cups water, 2 cups crystal light.

I will weigh again in a couple of days. I've been good, so the weight should be inline, hopefully. I will update my tracker when I weigh next. I refused to do the gain that I think was just a fluke.

Your body is probably just adjusting to all of the changes that you are making, and especially to the additional water intake. Give it a few days and it will probably come plummeting down!

Well, I made homemade sugar-free pumpkin butter today. I think it turned out well, but if I make it again, I won't use as much pumpkin pie spice. I had a can of pumpkin that I didn't use at Christmas and wanted something different for my evening snack. I have bought this from the Amish stores before, but is so easy, that I will definitely make again.

I am off today and will do well with my water intake. I did jump on the scales this morning and had gained 3 pounds in two days? There is something strange there. Don't know the cause, but I haven't cheated at all, and have kept carbs fairly low.

I forgot about that. A good probiotic would probably do wonders, since that is what is probably helping from the yogurt.

I finally got in one bottle of water and my 20oz of tea but only had my one cup of caffeinated coffee. I had to sit there and guzzle down the tea and part of the water because I wasn't thirsty and just didn't think about drinking them, but wanted to get them down! LOL! I did end up drinking a few gulps of caffeinated coffee last night to help my migraine meds to work.

Well, today I took an extra bottle of water just for the kuerig, and it was full, so I just left it there for Wednesday. I am drinking 3 cups of Crystal Light and 5 cups of water, today. I forgot that I was trying to cut the Crystal Light to 2 cups and filled the wrong bottle before going to work. I'll try to get it right on Wednesday.

Sharon - are you eating yogurt? That is usually the best thing for yeast infections. I always eat them when on antibiotics, as per doctor's orders.

That is a lot of liquid for me! I'm glad you can do that. I struggled to get both of my extra liquids in yesterday. I got my 20 oz herbal tea in, but only half of my bottle of water in. I did get my caffeinated coffee in and my decaff in too. I use Pyure, an organic Stevia (I order it from Amazon on my monthly subscribe and save) in my decaffeinated, and skim milk.

Sharon, they didn't give me anything for the rash. They basically told me to hang on until I quit taking the antibiotics, it would go away once I was done with those. It did. I probably put a cortizone cream on it myself to help with the itching. That was way back in 2002, so my memory is a bit foggy about those kinds of information.

Km- I have really gotten away from my water goal. I have been drinking lots of liquids but not nearly enough water. When I have been taking my water to work, most of it winds up in the Keurig. I am working on trying to get 6 cups of water and two Crystal Light, over and above my coffee intake. That's a very healthy goal for me.

Week one saw me down 2 pounds and within 8/10 of a pound to goal. This week should put me in good shape....hopefully. I have a vacation at the end of the month and want to be able to cheat without guilt. I don't think we are going to go anywhere, just take a little time to recuperate.

Oh mine isn't as bad as what you had Kim ! It's just I itch 24/7 and most of the time doc can't see the rash ! The $65 cream is almost 1/2 gone ! Not that it is helping . I hope the dr will give me a cheaper med. Do you know what they gave you ?

You don't have to, Connie, you are on maintenance. You can add more goals if you want to if you think it will help you to attain the goal that you set for yourself last week. For some of us it is going to take more than one goal to reach that long term goal - so it's up to each one of us to decide what we need to do to get there.

I was down to 208.8 this morning - that's a one pound loss from last week. Half of my monthly goal. We'll see if it sticks. LOL!

1 Tim 4:7 But have nothing to do with worldly fables fit only for old women. One the other hand discipline yourself for godliness. [I missed "the purpose of" between for and godliness - sigh]

I guess that I didn't realize that we are adding more goals in. I am with you on the liquids goal. I have really been drinking too much coffee. Your two cups is nothing comparatively speaking! I am not saying I will cut my coffee, but will try to get back to assuring that I am getting my full 8 cups other than coffee. I will also try to cut the crystal light consumption and drink more pure water.

Sharon, that is exactly what this challenge is for, to help us refocus ourselves and challenge ourselves to get back onto a healthier track in any area. I'm so glad you decided to give it a try. I'm so sorry you are having so much skin trouble. Makes mine look puny and I praise the Lord that mine is nothing compared to yours. I can't imagine a yeast infection all over. I had one from my groin to my knees when I had my gall bladder out and it was necrotic - I was on several antibiotics for about 30 days. That's about as much as I could handle - any more than that I can't imagine. I feel terrible for you. I pray the Lord will be merciful and bring healing quickly and that your biopsies will turn out fine. Keep looking to Jesus!

I'm working on my memory verses. Very hard. I think I have verse one down, but verse two isn't coming as easily. Only one more day to go!

WEEK 2: Time to set another goal or to broaden your goal for week one. Are you happy with how you did in week one, if not, then continue to work on your week one goal, tweak it until it is something that you can do without feeling like you are depriving yourself or having a hard time accomplishing. If you are happy with how it is going, then it's time to set another goal to reach your monthly goal.

My week two goal is going to be getting more liquids other than coffee. LOL! I tend to be very cold all the time, so I want to drink hot stuff. I have changed my coffee habits to my second cup being decaff and using skim milk and Pyure (an organic Stevia), but that is pretty much all I am drinking during the day, two cups of coffee. I am going to add 20 oz of my herbal tea and a bottle of water to the mix.

Don't forget that the new weeks starts tomorrow!

God bless, Kim

I would like to do it but I don't do well with challenges or memory work .
I will try to make a couple goals if that is ok ? If I try to put them into year, month and weekly thing I will lose interest as I just don't have the mental energy .
I
1-To pray more for others and always end with not my will but your will be done .
2- To not weigh in every day ( only on Sunday )
3- Cut my sugar, salt and carbs back again
4- To get to 130 no matter how long it takes

If this is ok and won't mess up your challenge ( I will try to show how I'm doing it )

Right now we are waiting for biopsies on both of us ! I already had 1 skin cancer removed on my arm and now I'm waiting on one on my finger , th is waiting for one on his back ! We both have had to have a lot of spots frozen ( my face, hands and his back ,head) the cream for my yeast infection which is all over me cost $75 and I had to pay $64 ( with discount card ) won't last the 4-6 weeks and then 2 more weeks if it's gone ! Itching is driving me nuts !! Been 3 weeks very bad ( I never really get rid of it ) that's along with at least 3 other skin problems ! So my brain and body ( arthritis / fibro) are just not having a great time . emoticon

That is something I really need to do better, drink more water! Right now I am drinking coffee, caffeinated and decaff, and that is about it! I do drink the occasional gulp of water, but not much! I need to make my herbal tea and get it in the fridge so I can fill up my RTIC cup and guzzle that down.

I've been having a lot of stomach and sinus problems. The stomach problems are not helping because I have been having pain and nausea and that makes me want to eat carbs to stop it. I've been sending message back and forth from my doctor's office to try and figure out what we can do since my insurance has changed and they aren't covering my PPI's anymore. I think we finally have it figured out though. I still have some of my new med left, but it isn't helping that much. He is going to prescribe a stomach coater for me that should help with the pain since I have chronic gastritis and I think I am going through a bout of that now. He wanted to do some testing, maybe for h pylori, but I told him that I had had that test before and it usually came up negative and explained the chronic gastritis to him. I also told him that the local gastroenterologist had basically given up on me because he had done everything he knew to do and my insurance wasn't going to let me go to a specialist without paying through the nose - so I'm stuck! I'm going to have to eat whatever I can to make the tummy feel better but still try and keep it within the parameters of my healthy eating. Wade found this great organic multi-grain bread. He can't even look at the regular bread any more after eating this stuff. LOL! Anyway, after all of that - I'm trying to eat as well as I am able, keeping sugar to a minimum and using portion control on snacks. I need to do better with my memory verse! Arghhh!

Love y'all. Keep up the good work!

God bless, Kim

I am still trying to get a handle on things. I haven't started my daily 10 minutes of moving yet. I am sure my nutrition has been off. Today I tracked my nutrition and was 600 calories over my goal. My fat, carbs and sodium were high too. I really need to get motivated. I had 1 1/2 cookies emoticon today. I did drink 8 cups of water! emoticon

I tell people that I am a cookie-aholic. I am like a recovering alcoholic. I want a cookie, but have the will power to stay away....but, if I ever eat one, there is no stopping me! Right now there are 4 cookies sitting on my kitchen counter that have been there almost two weeks. They are probably hard as nails, now. If I ate one, though, they would all be gone in 5 minutes and I would probably be looking for more at the store!

Woohoo, Connie. That was a good choice.

I didn't make a good choice yesterday. Wade is out of town and he left two no-bake cookies (oatmeal and peanut butter are two of the main ingredients), and I just couldn't leave them there to go bad! LOL! At least I lost my headache for a few hours!

I am up one pound, but that isn't out of the norm for me! Although it is disappointing.

Well, I had my first real challenge today. I took a friend to buy a months worth of groceries and we stopped to eat lunch. I weighed this morning and wasn't even down to my goal weight from the holidays and here I was wanting to cheat. She's working on weight loss as well, so we ate a cup of soup and a salad with low fat dressing and we were both "good".

Awesome, ladies, those sound great!

I have had a headache for two days. We have had a weather front coming through and bringing rain, but I wouldn't doubt that not giving my body the sugar that it's been used to for the past two months isn't helping either!

I don't blame you on the memory verse, Connie. I am going over my two each day, and so far I barely have verse one memorized! That may end up being my verse! LOL!

Meeting my weekly goal so far! Working on my memory verse daily.

Ok, I'm in. I need the motivation and accountability. Here are my 3 goals and memory verse.

Goal 1: Lose 21 pounds by January 1st 2018. That will put me at 195, the weight listed on my driverís license. If I work hard, maybe I can boast a lower weight when I renew it in April 2018.

Goal 2: Lose 2 pounds each month. This will actually put me ahead of my goal by a little bit. That way I will have some leeway next Christmas. I want to focus on a new challenge or method each month. For January I have joined the ďFind 10Ē challenge. Fitness or movement is my weakest point in a healthy lifestyle. This challenge will ďhelp [me] squeeze at least 10 minutes of fitness into your day. Ten minutes is a great start for anyone who wants to develop a consistent routine.Ē

Goal 3: My weekly goals will be following the challenge I am currently on. This week that is moving for 10 minutes a day. I will also focus on 8 cups of water a day. That has been slipping recently.

This passage goes along with my focus on movement this month. My verses will be 1 Corinthians 9:24-27.
24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. 25 Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. They then do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. 26 Therefore I run in such a way, as not without aim; I box in such a way, as not beating the air; 27 but I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.

Not going to participate in the scripture memorization goal. I have a terrible time memorizing anything, anymore and am not going to frustrate myself. emoticon

Yearly Goal:
To stay within a 8# range of my goal weight (5# under goal - 3# over goal). Goal weight 133#.

Monthly Goal:
Watch eating and only allow "cheat days" when under goal. In doing this, I also will be ultra conscious of my eating and weight goals prior to vacations to allow myself to not have to track during trips. My goal is to be at the 5# under mark prior to trips. I have vacations scheduled every month between now and June.

Weekly Goals:
Weigh in weekly to see where I am to my goal. Assure that I change up my eating periodically to "shock" my system. Keep an eye on when vacation is coming to assure that I am ready to go!

I came across these verses in my reading today and thought I would share them with y'all:

1Ti 4:7b ... On the other hand, discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness;
8 for bodily discipline is only of little profit, but godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.
9 It is a trustworthy statement deserving full acceptance.
10 For it is for this we labor and strive, because we have fixed our hope on the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of believers.
11 Prescribe and teach these things.

Our focus needs to be not only on our physical well-being but also on our spiritual well-being - so I am going to add a twist to our challenge - a memory verse. I'm not going to pick one - you are. A weekly verse that is going to help you trust in the Lord to attain your goals and to remind you that it's not by your power but by His that you are accomplishing your goals.

My verses for the first week are going to be 1 Tim. 4:7b-8. You can choose the same verse if it speaks to your heart, or you can choose another, that's up to you, but it's important that we don't leave the Lord out of our challenge, but rather right at the heart of it!

I'll go ahead and put my goals down now so that you can see what I'm asking of you for Sunday:

Goal 1: I want to be down to 180 by Dec. 31st. That means I need to lose 32 pounds in the next year.
Goal 2: I want to lose 3 pounds a month. This hasn't been easy for me since I gain and lose that amount on a regular basis.
Goal 3: The first week I am going to begin by regulating my treats and not eating any sweets except for Sunday. For me treats are a package of Ritz crackers or several graham crackers; sweets are cake or cookies, etc... Regulating my treats will be three Ritz crackers or 1 graham cracker along with a protein for my snack at night. I will also only drink one cup of my coffee with the creamer or the flavored coffee. Any other coffee I drink will be decaf with the skim milk and Pyure. This is my week to watch my sugar intake and to stop making a piggy out of myself when I am sitting down with a snack.

God bless, Kim

Something is wrong when focus is, "how sin does not separate us from God," rather than, "how God separates us from sin."

Live today with all you've got for Jesus. Never give in and Never give up.

Love yíall in Christ.
