Wow this is different...and yes my SP has less ads..but I still have ads on the left hand side of my page....I read on another team that this was to look more like facebook pages...and it does resemble it a bit more....but I miss not having "my recent posts" screen....I used that a lot in the old version......

Charlotte have a great opening night with your musical......

Tomorrow is a home day for me so my dh and I are getting our passports renewed....hoping after his hip surgery in Sep to do more traveling.....right now with his arthritic hip he doesn't do any walking.

Heather hope you are feeling better....

To everyone have a relaxing evening.......

WOW does this look different - I like it - I think!

Lin - I joke that I go to bed with Snuffleupagus when hubby has his on, but it doesn't bother me at all, the noise is much more soothing than his snoring!

My fridge and freezers and cupboards were empty, finally hit the grocery store and $300 later I feel like I barely made a dent! And I barely bought any meat since there really weren't any good deals, just the bare minimum. Although I swear I bought 4 bags worth of fruit and veg...lord knows it will all be gone pronto!

Actually came home early today as I wasn't feeling well and it was a slow day at work. I have been fending off a migraine due to the weather and I just couldn't handle the fluorescent lighting at work anymore. Skipped yoga today too since I felt so crappy. Back at it tomorrow though.

Have a great day ladies - Happy May!

I like the larger print too but different than Charlotte, I have a lot fewer ads it seems. In the old view they were all across the top and down both sides. On this it's only on the top - so far. Rain and more rain today and we are to get it steady until Sun! Hopefully it gets the garden going and we don't get another hard frost.

Noticed a few changes to the design of team pages. My aging eyes like the larger post spaces. More ads too it seems, but can't complain as they do keep the site free. You have to be aware of where you park the little pointer arrow thingie - if you leave it on an ad the ad comes up even without clicking on it.
Busy all day with soup - chicken vegetable and tomato vegetable - two crock pots worth. My church is catering the backstage lunches for the first four dinner theatre shows as a fundraiser. Performing is hungry work. We get lighter fare than our paying guests of course, who nosh on a gourmet buffet & cheesecake. emoticon Opening night tomorrow - I guess we're ready. The curtain is going to open regardless! I won't be posting much for a few days needless to say.
Still cool here but snow is almost gone. No leaves on the trees yet, but a few bulbs & the rhubarb are starting to show.

Donna - the c-pap masks do take some getting used to. I was months before I learned how to talk with it on. (When you open your mouth when it is turned on, you create like a vacuum and it's difficult to talk.) I think I was about a full year getting used to it but I don't think you ever totally get used to - I still throw it off some nights. My husband hates it if I roll over to face him. There is an exhaust and it blows cold air on him. And ... you just feel sooooooo sexy wearing it, lol.

Nice to hear from you Pat. You sure do have a busy life. Keep up the walking....it is so good for us and will help with getting rid of those pounds. I finally lost last weigh in so I was happy. We will see what this week brings.
I feel sorry for you people with the sleep apnea issues. It must be very uncomfortable sleeping with that mask on. I know people who need it but can't use it. That must be very worrisome for their partners.
Today I have a few things to do around the house then I will spend some time getting my golf equipment ready for my Thursday league. I have not had time to do that since we came home. Maybe the rain had something to do with my enthusiasm for the job.
I think I am going to try the salsa chicken recipe for dinner today.. I heard it is very good and it is nice to have something in the crockpot.
Hope you all have a good day!!!!

Hi Everyone,

Sorry I have been MIA so long - last week I was busy checking on my friends house while she was away on holidays so between my job, my pets and her pets it was a little nuts. Consequently I did not do so well on my challenge last week - I gained 1 lb. so this week I have to try and get that pound off and see if I can lose one more.

I see everyone had a busy Easter and by all appearances a Happy one. I hope you all have an amazing week! - Pat emoticon

Heather - I too had been putting off going in to see about a new mask. Turns out the mask I have been using for weeks is like a spare tire - to be used in an emergency for a short period of time. But, I got my news magazine from Sunnybrook Hosp. on Fri. and in there was an article about people with Sleep Apnea and Restless Leg Syndrome being prime candidates for having a stroke - thought I better get off my butt afterall.

Hello!
Lin - yes! we have to do the same thing for hubby's cpap...the mask is shot so he won't wear it, so I have to keep poking him to stop snoring, or sometimes even to start breathing when I hear him stop.

I've been staring at my wee gardens and thinking it's time to do something, but haven't quite gotten there yet......

My sister had an interview today for a new job and she was so pumped up (fingers crossed for her) when she came back she asked me to go for a walk rather than go to the gym - we ended up walking for almost 2hrs (despite my squawking knee halfway through) and turns out we managed 7k.....so I guess I really don't have to worry about the 5k I signed up for in October...I know I can make it!

Finally got some quiet now and dinner's in the oven, so I am going to chill out for a bit before everyone comes home.

Donna and Stephanie - thanks for your nice comments on my gardens. I love gardening. Each of us 4 girls had our own garden section when we were kids and I hated it, lol. Mom did most of the work but we had to help and we got to pick what went into it. We all enjoy gardening now though. I got in more gardening today and I'm pleased to say that the majority of the gardens are now ready. There are a few plants to be cleaned up but at least the bulk of each garden is done. We are in for rain now until after Sun. so it's a good thing. I've got the every Spring stiffness thing that most gardeners experience. My face feels a bit warm tonight - most likely the wind rather than the bit of sun I got.

I had to go to Medigas today and get the mask for my C-pap breathing machine (for sleep apnea) checked. It was worn out and I had to get a new one. While there, I bought one of the C-pap pillows while they were on sale (saved $40). I decided to put it all together when I got home rather than waiting until later - I could just see me remembering the machine was in pieces from transporting it right about bed time and I'd be trying to put it all together and not wake up my husband who always manages to beat me to bed and fall asleep immediately. Anyway, I got it all together and thought I'd try the pillow with the new mask on. That was at about 1 pm. Next thing I new it was 2:30 pm! My restless legs usually won't let me have an afternoon nap but I slept like a log.

Hi everyone...have been reading the posts and thought I'd post later but these last few days just flew by.....

Charlotte hang in there.... I did not do well with my Sat weigh in...I've gained 3 pounds and nothing seems to budge them....its been cold down here these last couple of days and I have not been getting out much to walk......

Heather ......empty nest syndrome...I'm finally going to experience that...after 42 years of being married my youngest with her family finally moved out into their new home 2 months ago...I've had my kids live at home the whole time.....it will feel different with only my dh and me at home.....but I still work 3 days a week so for now that will keep me busy....

Lin I hope it warms up for you for your garden sale....your garden pictures are awesome and all the hard work you and your dh do for it shows in the beautiful flowers....

Welcome back Ush...and emoticon on the weight loss.....

Anjay I can understand your frustration regarding computer problems I've had computer problems at work and its not fun having to down load all your programs again.......

To everyone hope you have a relaxing evening....I won't be going out tonight for a walk ...its rainy and cold still here today...but hope looms close by....warmer weather is predicted tomorrow..... emoticon

Hi Ladies

This is one of those times when it's good to be broke - thank God for OSAP! All kidding aside, lord knows we don't have the funds for this and the kids are all taking student loans. We told each one that if they want to go to school locally, then we can help them by staying here and they don't have to worry about a roof, food, laundry, etc, but if they want to go away then that's something they need to fund.

Unknown to them hubs and I plan to assist where we can, but I have seen so many kids go off to school on their parents dime and not take it seriously. Funny how when they pay the bill they become so much more studious!

Linn, I have seen your pics of your garden so I can understand your wanting to subsidize the expense. Good for you and your DH for being so pro active. You certainly had a full day. But working outside has to feel so good. I loved working in my yard in the spring getting ready for the annual planting. I loved looking at my beautiful yard. You are right it is expensive....
Had a full day myself getting ready for my company. I had all my food prepared and was doing the dishes. A cup fell out of my hand, landed on the counter, shattered, glass all over my food, and I had to start over. I could have cried.....it was only the sauce and coating for the halibut but it was a lot of chopping and measuring....
After all that everything turned out delicious so today will be low key.....but gym this morning and have some ironing.

Donna - I've done the plant sale for about 5 years now. It helps pay for perennials that need replacing, mulch, and annuals, etc. I spent another hour out in the garden today under my husband's watchful eye. Came in and had a nap as I'd done my aquafit beforehand.

Heather - You are in for some big changes - the daughter not home for summer and then off to Winnipeg, and the oldest boys going off in the fall. Your youngest will be feeling it too I imagine. It's a real drain financially too while they are away at school and you'll have 4 - don' envy you and your husband.

Anjay - hope you can have a clear connect soon.

Linn, a plant sale!! Wow!!! It never ends.....you are the avid gardener in this group. I sure hope the weather cooperates. I love magnolia trees. Their flowers are so beautiful.
Heather, you sure have an active nest. That's wonderful your daughter is going to law school. She must be one smart cookie. I wonder how she will like Winnipeg. It will probably be a lot colder than she is use to Winnipeg people are so nice though......
Off to the gym this morning, have a few more chores around here, then company for dinner. So it will be a full day. We are having fish for supper so that should help to stay in my calorie range.
Have a good Sunday all!!!

Hello folks!
Another crazy week almost over for me...
Hubby drove to Ottawa yesterday to pick up his son from Carleton so our 'nest' is filling up again!
We just heard from his daughter that she actually will be staying in Newfoundland this summer as she is taking another class and has work through the summer, so we won't see her until August when she will come home for a couple weeks to visit. Although she graduates this year she has decided to stay in St John's until law school starts for her in Sept. in Winnipeg
So it dawned on my today this will probably be the last couple months with most of the kids home before the two oldest boys head off and it will just be us and my 'baby'...the 17 year old.

Busy day - aquafit for 90 mins, grocery shopping and food prep, 2 loads of laundry washed and hung up, finished the forest scene painting from my recent conference, and my DH and I lifted about 100 potted plants from the garden. My annual plant sale is in 3 weeks and I want them to get more sun during the day so I'll have to move them in and out of the gazebo but hopefully they'll have a chance to grow. Nobody wants to buy a pot of dirt with the promise of a plant under the soil. I'm really hoping we don't have a real cold snap. The last few years our Magnolia has lost half it's flowers to heavy frost and the flower buds have started to open and they'll be susceptible to a frost now. Had a nice break between all events so I'm tired but pleasantly so.

Hi Everyone

Hope you all had a great week. It is yet again snowing here in Calgary but its not staying its melting as it hits the ground. Was out for a short walk to the store this morning and I found it to be slightly refreshing out even though its snow and not rain.

After a busy weekend last weekend and then working all week this weekends plans a little more on the low down I will take the dogs out a little bit later for a nice walk and I think I might do a little bit of crafting of some sort. I have a small amount of laundry to throw in at some point this weekend.
I am finding it nice and relaxing not having to be somewhere other than home this weekend.

Maybe the sun will shine tomorrow!!!

Good Friday evening everyone. Busy times for all of us it seems. So great to see Ush "back in the fold" - wtg on losing those vacation pounds. I'm not too excited about tomorrow's weigh in for the 5% challenge, even staying the same would be good after this frantic week. Thursday's theatre rehearsal was particularly strenuous - took most of today to recover. The damp weather (it SNOWED all morning!) isn't helping. On the bright side, dh took me out to lunch & I just put 2 big apple crisps in the oven, so the day is not lost. He's busy helping a neighbour with the calving - four babies today so far, & he's just left to check on the "girls" again. Ah, spring on the farm! Have a Sparkling weekend!

Hi everyone... It's been a while... a long while I guess since I've posted. Life has been so hectic and things are starting to settle a bit now. I'm hoping to be able to find the time and energy to post more often again. It's nice to see everyone and I'm can see I have some reading to do to catch up on everyone's lives.

My mom is starting to leave the grief of my stepfather's passing behind. She has more good days than bad in spite of all the firsts over the past few months; first Valentines, her birthday, his birthday, Easter etc. My hubby and I can step back a little bit now without losing sleep. My daughter is recovering after her surgery but broke her foot a week or two later; having missed the bottom step when going down the stairs to the bathroom in the middle of the night. She is now in a walking cast and looking for work as she just finished the Immigration consultant program at Herzig. She wants to get her license this summer but things have been really hard for them financially. My son in law is still waiting for his Permanent residency and they've been married now for 2 1/2 yrs.

My own health is improving. I've started taking a supplement (?) called D Ribose which I get at the local health food store. I find I have a bit more energy and as long as I avoid salt and I exercise, the pain is a lot better too. I have good days where I feel only occasional twinges but the arthritis is kicking in with this damp weather... my hips have been bugging me with all the walking I'm doing but after having gained six pounds while on vacation in Mexico, I had to start doing something. Lucky for me, I've managed to lose 7 lbs and am hoping to continue that trend emoticon

My hubby and I are planning a trip to New Jersey to see my niece and her hubby and two of our granddaughters are hoping to go with us. It will depend on whether my daughter can get their passports in time. It's crazy what they have to provide for passports for children.. emoticon then we'll need to get a notarized letter from my daughter and her ex stating we can take the girls out of the country.... at least I know they are well protected that way. .... then we are planning to take my mom to Manitoulin Island and after that to New Brunswick to visit my sister in law's parents. It's looking like the summer is going to be crazy busy too and here I thought that life was finally starting to settle down a bit...

and then we get back and we are planning to reno the bathroom.. we need to get that done sooner rather than later so that it will be ready when my mom is ready to move in with us. She's not ready to give up her condo yet but she's figuring in another year or two she'll be ready.

okay.. I guess that's enough of my novel.
congrats to heather on the loss of those 6 inches!
Lin.. glad your hubby is looking out for you and that his "disapproval" is really only his protectiveness of you

I'm looking forward to catching up on everyone's lives

Ciao ladies!

Hi all, it sure is quiet here today and on all the other teams I go on. Strange....must be lovely weather everywhere. Been a very busy day today but now taking a few minutes before I make supper to catch up on Sparks and have a cup of tea. Just some me time.
Had a good workout this morning and got lots of steps in while doing my grocery shopping at three stores. Why can't you get everything you need in just one place!!!
What do you ladies think about the price of gas???? At Costco today I paid $141.9 and when I told DH he said that's not bad!!! How soon we get accustomed to these high prices.
So now gotta run and make supper. Hope the weight-in goes well for all those doing the 5% challenge. I lost 1.5 this week so far. Will weigh again tomorrow to post.
Have a good evening all!,,

Happy Friday Ladies!

I am at work but forcing myself to take a lunch break which I never usually do, that normally results in a crazed binge after a 12hr shift. I even ate Breakfast!

BTW - product info...I bought a package of the Special K flatbread breakfast sandwiches. Kinda pricey at 3.99 for 2 but there was a 1$ off coupon, and I figured they would be handy to have in the freezer. 190 calories for the ham, egg & pepperjack cheese sandwich, microwaves in 1 minute. Pretty tasty. I certainly would not eat them every day, but not a bad purchase if you know you're going to have a couple hectic mornings. My favourite treat breakfast is McDonalds sausage muffins (YEAH - I know!) so these were a reasonable alternative treat brekkie.

Have a great day! I better get back to work!

thanks Heather. Like you, I gained 20 lbs. after my latest health issue. My DH and I are earnestly working on losing that again so we can go on to our previous goals again to lose more. Hang in there Anjay.

Lin - you just do your thing baby! I can understand your husband's POV too - he obviously worries for you. Since you live in that body, you know best - so do take care.

Donna - bed set sounds lovely - and yes! Pillows are obscenely expensive for what they are! Lately I have found IKEA to be pretty good for pillows, but I got mine at Bouclair when they were on sale in a flyer.

Anjay - don't get down on yourself. Last time I had some health issues I fell completely off the wagon, gained 30lbs back and stopped exercising for almost 3 years. 4lbs is totally controllable! And good for you for not giving up.

I got called to an early morning meeting before the store opened today, so I had to skip my workout. I dragged my tush to the gym after work. I guess I must have become a "regular" because I had 3 staff comment that I was there late today.....LOL

I had to stop and think about what to say here. I appreciate the comments that have been made about my attitude and what I try to do to make my quality of life better. The people around me - family and friends - avoid discussions of my health and many make no effort to know about it or to understand any of it. I was raised to believe I was a hypochondriac. Raised to believe but too stubborn to believe. I've fought all my life to find out what ails me. I was 40 before I had my first diagnosis - Crohn's Disease. Unfortunately for me, that was the tip of the iceberg. Perhaps the anonymity of SP has allowed me to share more information than I would normally do. When one expresses oneself on here, you get one of 2 responses - none or support. In my "real" world, there are 3 - none, support, or disapproval, heavy on the disapproval and you learn not to share so much. Much to my surprise I learned on Tues. that the disapproval I sensed from my husband was not that I wasn't trying hard enough or doing enough but the opposite, he disapproves that I push myself too hard sometimes until I make myself ill. That's much easier to live with but I hope he understands that if I don't try I'll never know what I can still do. I'm looking forward to the Heart Rehab I will be starting in mid May to see what others in the group are doing and learning some new things while under the supervision of a trained emergency room nurse and with heart monitors on. New kinds of exercise aren't quite as scary that way when you don't always know how much your heart can take.

Lauretta - I too had a chiropractic appt today. Some days I wonder if it's worth it and others am sooo glad for the pain he brings that later brings great relief. A complete body massage would be appreciated as well, lol. I don't think I'll ever adjust to sudden aches and pains when I've done nothing out of the ordinary. Take it easy on that hip of yours. And I think I'll take your advice to rest a bit. I'm sore after the shopping and errands I had to do today and it may not be wise to do the gardening tomorrow I was thinking of. Fortunately my DH will load my all season tires into the car for me as I'm scheduled to have an oil change and take the snow tires off. I couldn't even imagine trying to lift those tires with rims attached. Lifting and I don't get along much.

I hope everyone has a great weekend. I haven't checked out the weather reports but I have a feeling the 18 degrees we had last Monday won't be anywhere near what we will have in the next few days. As long as there is sunshine. My DH and \I want to get down to Port Hope either on the weekend or Mon. or Tues to visit a store we have been getting supplies at for our model train set up. They are closing their doors on Tues. There are so few hobby shops any more that carry model train gear. It has gone the way of craft stores with painting supplies - it too isn't as popular as it one was. Does anyone have any special plans?

I have been MIA for a long time due to serious health problems.
I have severe breathing problems and need plenty of rest and
to stay away from irritants that trigger a disruption to my breathing.
I am hoping to be able to get outside and go for walks now that
the nice weather is almost here.
It is difficult to exercise because I cannot breathe
properly, and some weight has come back on, but I am determined to
be in control of my nutrition.
Hoping to start back very slowly and do only what the doctor allows with regards to exercise and not relapse.

I think shopping is a drag......and a lot of work. When I had to buy clothes for work I liked going to a store where ther was a sales clerk to help and everything was there.
A sheen of gold in the bed cover and ivory so far. I brought home some pillows in a burgandy colour today for accent.....not sure .....they do look nice though......
Don't you think pillows are way to expensive??????
Anyway not a gym day today so I did get a little walking in and now doing some housework. I was suppose to golf today but it is cold and raining.....grrrr.....

April showers outside my window this morning emoticon all the snow patches should be gone soon, the spring runoff is filling the ditches (no flooding here so far), buds on the willows...I'm daring to say spring is here! emoticon

Steph - I'm having a hard time getting going with the spring challenge too. Most days start off fine, but by evening it's another story. This constant vigilance can sure wear a person down but don't give up. Keep moving, make the best choices you can to keep your weight stable for now... that's healthy living too.

Heather - adding my emoticon to the others' emoticon to those 6 inches emoticon Hope hubby's knee recovers soon.

Anjay - hope you're feeling better after your fall.

Lin - You must be channeling Wonder Woman. I'm in awe over your determination to live life to its fullest & how much you accomplish with all your challenges.

Donna - what colour/design is your new bedding? That's something I have to do too. Bed in a bag sounds like a great idea, especially if you hate shopping as much as I do!

Well, time to get busy in the kitchen. Have a great day everyone.

Hi Everyone Happy Wednesday

Heather WOW 6 inches that is AWESOME!!! Congrats

Lin- I am so truly inspired by your amazing attitude and being determined to be healthy!!
With what you have gone through I have to say you are a truly amazing Lady!!
I am happy to here your Check up went well but please do rest a little bit and take the best care possible

It is raining here a little bit had a chiropractor apt today all is going well he says so that was good news.
I have been doing a lot of walking and have put a bit strain on to my hips but nothing to worry about but after the treatment today I need to rest a little so no dog walking tonight,

But I think 1 day of rest is probably a good thing anyway will most likely to do some gentle yoga a bit later.

Hope you all are having a great week
Happy Sparking Everyone

Linn, we are all amazed at what you can do with the things you have to deal with. Amazing lady but I think your DH is right. Rest is very important too. You do,have a lot to deal with.
Heather WTG with losing 6 inches!!!! That is one awesome NSV!!!!! I had to chuckle about your going to the gym without your DH!!!, if I waited for mine to go it would never happen.
Steph, as far as the challenge is concerned you just have to keep plugging away. Didn't you lose a few weeks ago? Maybe you are being way to hard on yourself!!!!!
Been a busy day with gym this morning, then a doctors appointment this afternoon and still shopping for the bedding. Buy, bring home, take back what you don't like, being some more home, take more back......there is something to be said for bed in a bag!!!
Have a great evening all.....

Hi Ladies!
Got my yoga in today - DH has been told by his doctor to skip it for a whie and take it easy on the knee so today was my first day going solo. I was kinda nervous because the last class was really really tough but today I actually managed a few positions I have not previously been able to do - so making progress!

My big hoorah today is I got my trainer to measure me - I've lost 6 inches off my hips! WOOOHOOO!

Sunshine is lovely, and I am itching to get some gardening in....

Have a great one!
Heather

Morning ladies....much cooler down here today and so was yesterday......

Lin you are doing so great with your exercising and healthy eating....I could use some of your awesome attitude about getting into shape...I have gained and can not seem to get a handle on my eating.....Easter was just an excuse.....I've been eating leftovers ...too much of them.....

Heather what an accomplishment to reach another weight plateau...... emoticon for you and your dh......

Donna what a great idea to buy new bedding....I know I could certainly use some....think I'll go after work today and see what "The Bay" has down here.....certainly beats grocery shopping.

Charlotte and Pat how is the 5% Spring Challenge going?...I started out walking and exercising but since the weekend can't seem to get into it again....just tried of all of it...but the alternative for me is gain, gain..... emoticon

To all have a great day.....and enjoy your Wed......
