Lauretta - fantastic idea! I would do the same if I had a garage. It was my husband's biggest complaint when we moved to our current home, but I was happy because he always had it full of crap anyway!

Minimoe - a bear??? Wow...gotta luv Canada!

Did an 11 hr shift on my feet today, so I am finally home and relaxing - NO GYM!

Cheers,
Heather

What a great idea for your garage Laurettach. Having your own home gym will be a real incentive to work out - for the whole family sounds like.
Just back from some major hiking through 2 grocery stores - now for the fun part, putting it all away. Dh is working up a super appetite these days with field work, keeps me cooking. A neighbour stopped by to warn us a young black bear was in our north field heading south toward the trees. Dh didn't see it so I hope it kept going. Always deer around but this is the first for a bear.

Hi Everyone.

Happy Friday to you all. I took a vacation day today to just have some down time.
Which was spent cleaning my garage!! Not really down time is it? But It is well worth it I made a lot of progress and it has been something I have wanted to get to for a long time. I should have it complete tomorrow and get the home gym set up. I have a tread mill out there and my son has weights and a weight bench I am really getting excited last summer I had a space set up to do yoga out there as well and by the time I am done I will have that space set up too!! So on the rainy days I can get a work out done out there. Or when I work till late at night and want to get in some exercise I have the place to go to. I will even have a small tv set up with a dvd player for videos and also the WII.

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Anjay - you will definitely have to post pics when you're done! After all this hard work I'd love to see it!

Minimoe - I was pretty sure I read somewhere that sometimes you need to increase your calories to get your body working with you again, but wasn't sure. I find I'm pretty good with a couple of things, but then something slides....like, I will do great with drinking my water, but forget to eat breakfast....or I get brekkie in, but then I fall off my exercise routine for a few days....I just can't seem to keep ALL the good habits going at the same time!

I did FINALLY buy a tape measure today and was pleased to find that I have lost 2inches off my waist, and 1.5 inches off both my arms and my thighs, so that confirms that stuff is still happening.......I just have to be satisfied with that I guess!

Hubby has gone off to the gym with his son....my one son is off to a field exercise near CFB Borden with his Cadet Corps, and my other son is working.....so a quiet evening for me.

Hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

Great news about your nephew, Heather. Recovering at home is always better, hospitals being the germy places they are, unfortunately. Good luck plateau-busting. It can help to eat in the middle or higher end of your calorie range on alternate days. So frustrating to be stuck but keep focused emoticon

Anjay - are you in the kitchen home stretch yet? Funny how those renos don't go as fast as they do on TV!

Busy day today - big laundry, final touches on the mudroom, hot, sunny, tulips in bloom, lawn is green, trees leafing out - what's not to like? Hope everyone has a grand w/e

Hello hello....
Well my nephew has finally been discharged from the hospital. He is still on antibiotics and will have to go back in a week for a follow up ultrasound to ensure the abscesses are shrinking but they felt he was well enough to finish recovering at home. I'm relieved and I know my sister was at her wits end trying to juggle a brand-new job and a child in the hospital.

I'm off to the gym before work. I've been super frustrated lately since my scale hasn't effectively moved since January. I just keep going up and down within the same 5 lb range between 245-250.

Now I know that inches have changed, my physical ability has changed...I'm definitely stronger than I was and have way more energy, but I'm dying to break this 244 mark. Today I am back down to my lowest yet...244.5 instead of 244.7...so I'm praying that this 3 month plateau is busted!

I heard a funny on facebook the other day...."going to the gym would be more satisfying if calories SCREAMED when we burn them"

Good rainy morning ladies - another day of watching the grass grow. Dh tuned up the lawnmowers yesterday, so we know what job # 1 will be as soon as things dry up! Then rototilling the weed patch aka veggie garden. Warm temps + moisture=jungle!!

Dealing with family pictures - been there, trying to do that too. Both sides of my family used the dresser drawer/old coat box organization method mostly, altho some in those plastic paged albums or stuck in scrapbooks with glue or tape. And then there's the negatives & slides... and trying to figure out who's in the pics as nothing was written on the backs.... it can be a massive organization job. Scanning on a CD will make it so much easier to oganize and share. Good luck!

Steph - glad your dh is trying to stretch & move even tho it is painful. Tell him to hang in there! It's important to stay flexible and work the muscles on his good hip & upper body as it will make moving around during recovery so much easier. And they will make you move, so everyone says! I ordered a new toy - table top pedal exerciser from Sears for both arms and legs + aquafit for arthritis once a week, daily stretches, massage therapy once a month... it hurts to be sure, but hurts more if I don't move.

Weeks are flying by - sil & hubby arrive June 1 for a 2 week visit - trying to get the little house ready for them is a challenge. Just now the spiders are winning! A friend is coming tomorrow to do the heavy cleaning thank goodness. I'll just have to make up the bed and stock the kitchen with breakfast stuff. Can't wait to see them.

Better stop rambling & start the day. Have a Sparkling one!

Hi Everyone,
Thank you all for your support. Loss of a loved one is always difficult at first. Today was a hard day but I know in my heart it will get a little easier each day.
I do have wonderful memories of our years spent as close friends.
I have been so inconsistent with tracking my food and exercise over this month I thought man oh man I am not going to have a good result on the scale this morning. To my surprise I stayed the same no loss but no gain either!!
That was sure nice to see. Things are slowing down for me now thank goodness.
I have been on the go so much I felt like I didn't know if I was coming or going most days. I am happy to say that this weekend I have no company, no trip planned, no program to go, and I am not scheduled to go to work!! So that means I can do what I want/need to get done here at home and I do believe a couple yoga sessions are going to be included to help me distress a bit.
I am thinking that I will get some arranging done in my garage it is something I really have been putting off and have really wanted to get it done as I am working on getting it set up as a home gym/yoga room so the sooner I get it organized the sooner I can make really good use out it. Plus cleaning it up will burn some calories!!

Evening all.....looks like everyone is keeping busy...with this warmer weather we have had I'm enjoying getting outdoors and walking, biking and doing yard work.....

Donna I know what you mean about 50 years worth of pictures...my mom has kept all our pictures of when we were growing up in a bedroom dresser bottom drawer...and it's something I think I'll have to organize...my 2 younger db's could care less about them, so it looks like that will be my job eventually......Lin and Heather putting them on CD's is a great idea...I get CD's now from weddings I've attended as keepsakes and they are wonderful to watch and easy to store......also Lin hope you are not sick with pneumonia and are feeling better......Heather hope your nephew is getting better...what a scare for everyone in the family......

Lauretta sorry about loosing your beloved close friend....

Charlotte how is your hip?.....My dh is trying to stretch his leg muscle on the side of his painful hip but with his surgery not until Sep its not helping....

Hope everyone is enjoying their evening....take care all....

Hey Donna

I think you can also take them to walmart or places like that and scan them into a disk yourself - or if you have a scanner at home, just break it up into smaller chunks perhaps? Do 10 minutes a day?

Donna - there are small business that will take your photos and old slides and put them on a CD. If you had that done, you could then transfer from the CD to your computer yet always have the CD in case the computer fails. I wish we had more pics from when we were growing up of us kids but also of Mom and Dad. Mom thru them all out when she was downsizing and they moved from a large house to a condo. I couldn't believe it - she thought nobody would want them (arghhhhh!)

Lauretta - so sorry about your friend. I hope you have lots of happy memories to remember her by.

Anjay - how was your trip to the city with your friend?

Killing time here waiting for 2:20 when I have an appt with our nurse practitioner to make sure my chest cold isn't pneumonia again. I can't afford to be sick at this time of the year. We can finally get outside and work in the yard and I don't even have the energy to go outside. I was so lethargic last night I left all my potted plants exposed and out in the open. When we were going out to see if we could get the appt with the nurse, I had a quick look and they all seem none the worse for wear, thank heavens. I felt kind of guilty having my husband drive all that way to just set the appt up with my nurse but I've learned from experience that you can't get an answer in their offices until after 9 but usually can't get thru until 10 or 11 and all the spare appts are taken. By going up there we were able to book the appt at 8:30 am.

Well I got through all my photos yesterday and all I can say is WOW!!!! There are 50 years of memories there. I did get some good pictures of Mom.
As I went through all these pictures I realized that I have to get this pictures organized onto the computer. Have any of you done this? It is a massive job and I guess I am not really sure what is the best way to do this and more important what to do in order not to lose them once they are on the computer.

Hi Everyone,
Sorry that I have not been on line lately but I have had quite a month here in May.
Very busy with work and then I had a lot of events the last 3 weekends.
But this past Friday my very close friend passed away so I have been kind of in a whirl wind of emotions. I am really going to miss her, but I know that she is in a better place and is no longer suffering in the pain she has for so long.
I am getting back on track here though and will be logging back in every day and tracking better.

I hope you all had a good long weekend. I am back to working afternoons tomorrow but I really don't mind it this week.

Today I am going through my pictures to select some for my Mom's celebration. That should bring back lots of wonderful memories.

Heather, sorry to hear about your nephew but you probably can't do any better than Sick Kids. My thoughts are with you and your family.

I had my DGS for several hours yesterday while his Dad worked on stripping their deck. Apparently my daughter "painted" it with stain - lots and lots of stain - rather than staining it when they did it last year. They hired a man to strip it and after several hours work and $800 he quit. It might be cheaper to replace it at this rate. Anyway, Kyler came outside with me for a little while while I was dragging summer items out of the shed to go in the gardens. He said he was disappointed there were so few dandelions in our lawn as he was hoping to make a little bit of money picking them for us before they go to seed. I let him pick the neighbours - with her permission - we figured he'd earned a dollar by the time he was ready to call it quits. Then it was back inside for him to play on his Ipad. I miss the days when he'd follow Grandma anywhere and do anything I did. Oh well, guess you have to let them grow up. We've established a few rules however and you can't come for a "visit" and not visit and you can't ignore others there just because you are on your Ipad. The battery ran out and I thought "goodie" and then he pulled the charger and cord out of his little pocket!

No sign of it yesterday but I woke up with a very sore throat and nose alternating between runny and stuffy. It's gone directly to my chest, as usual. Colds these days just knock me for a loop so I didn't accomplish much today.

Thanks guys - looks like after talking with the surgeon we will be transferring my nephew to Sick Kid's in Toronto on Tuesday (if things don't get better) to have a specialist drain the infection.

Hi ladies!

Forgive my absence - lots going on! My little nephew (11 years old) was quite ill last Sunday with what we all believed to be the flu. My sister had asked for my son to babysit on Monday since both her and my brother in law had to work.

Monday came and he was still vomiting - but my son called in a panic because the poor kid was vomiting brown - hard to do after 12 hrs when nothing stayed down. Well after some frantic shuffling we took him to the hospital since he was vomiting blood. 7 hrs and multiple tests later he was in emergency surgery for a ruptured appendix.

Poor kid has been in the hospital almost a week now, since his fever won't go away, and now further tests have shown there to either be damage from the surgery - or abscess from infection. We are now waiting on the surgeon to figure out if more will be required or if we are going to change antibiotics and take a wait-and-see course.

So I've been going back and forth between my work, the hospital and my sister's to help look after my niece. I'm just glad I could be there and help. I was there when the kid was born, I babysat him for years, and it breaks my heart to see him so sick. Not to mention my sister being so worried. He's like one of my own.

So fingers crossed!

Hi all, well I am sitting here catching up on Sparks. Been in the kitchen most of the day preparing for company this evening. Even a simple meal takes so much time when you make everything from scratch. At least it is all done and I will be able to enjoy our company. Other than that, there are no plans for the weekend.
Linn I sure hope the weather cooperates for you next week. Enjoy your DGS today. He is pretty lucky to have you so close.
Anjay glad you had a few warm days. It is ok here but not great for anyone camping.
Happy Saturday all!!!

It's been quite cool here today and threatening rain. It's supposed to be even colder all weekend and if how cold it has turned this evening, it will be. My potted hostas for my sale are finally coming to leaf but no way will they be ready for tomorrow when my plant sale was originally scheduled. Hopefully the plants will be ready and the weather will be that much nicer on the 31st. We'll have my DGS for awhile tomorrow afternoon while his dad sands their deck. Otherwise we have no major plans. I hope everyone has a great long weekend.

Your prediction came true Donna..warm weather made it to MB. PLUS 18 out there. emoticon emoticon and more promised all w/e. Get thee outdoors and garden!
I'm just in for a wee rest after raking the yard around the house and picking up debris, dh out cultivating, other farmers around well into seeding. My next job is cleaning off the garden plot and figuring out where to plant lettuce. Little Guy (cat) is having fun playing with the end off a carrot - guess I'd better clean up a bit in the kitchen first. Trying to pace myself, but the old back/hip will let me know if I overdo!
Have a fun long weekend everyone! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Maybe if we all put on our capris, Mother Nature would get the hint! I would have to add long socks though, at least for today. Grrrr!
Anjay - ocean kayaking can be so peaceful - hope your first experience leads to more.
Steph - I can sympathize - can be so difficult to get back to all our good habits - like planning & tracking food. Some days you just have to get 'er done emoticon
Bossmommy - as someone told me once, "If you bit it, write it!" good advice. I try to plan my day's food on the SP tracker in advance, then print it, note any changes during the day & add them online at day's end.
Donna - you're the envy of legions of frustrated MB golfers. Most greens are open but still too cold for all but the truly hardy. another good reason to move to BC! emoticon
Long weekend coming up - the traditional time to plant gardens here. Supposed to warm up so we may at least get the plot and lawn cleaned up.
Have fun everyone!

Stephanie - we too are getting thunderstorms. It's 9:15 pm and 25F in the house and feels steamy. It's going down to about 10 tonight. We are in for some more cool 10-15 degree weather in the next 2 weeks.

Afternoon everyone....

Bossy mommy glad you are feeling better...and back to healthy living....

Charlotte.....my dh is getting a hip replacement, but not until Sep 4/14 and it was booked back in Feb....I have tried to get him to do some of the exercises to get in shape for the surgery but his pain is much too great most days.....he walks with a limp and take pain pills daily.

Lin your garden sounds great....we have have 80f plus temps down here and lots of thunderstorms....its finally cooling off a bit but still a very comfortable 66f today.

Lately with all the celebrations and eating out my tracking has been all over the place.....because of this I've felt bloated and uncomfortable for the last few days...need to get back to the basics and start tracking by pen and paper.....this extra weight is depressing....

Hope everyone is having a great Wed.....take care.

Thanks, I did have a much better day today. I did an extra dumbbell video in addition to my Bikini Workout program and still feel surprisingly good this evening. I did make on mistake on my nutritional tracker today. I forgot to add the 1/2 avocado on my lunch and as a result I went over the calorie limit. I was glad that I had done that extra video because it helped keep my calorie differential in the minus still. I notice that I have a problem tracking my meals accurately. When I exercise the first thing I want to do is put it into the tracker but with my eating I have a more casual attitude that I think I need to work on. I have read that some people are keeping a paper journal that they write in right away while they are eating their foods and I may have to try and see if that works better for me. Consistently getting the required amount of potassium and proteins are still my biggest eating issues that I haven't found a solution to yet and am working on as well. Mostly I am very pleased with how much stronger and healthier I am since I first joined SP. Before I used to spend almost every day in bed in constant pain feeling unable to live a full life. Now I feel as though I am back and part of an active healthy living existence again. I know I will always have fibro days or migraine days that will lay-me-up on occasion but I am getting stronger and hoping that those days will become fewer and fewer as I continue to work on my self-improvements.

To me HEALTH means Energy. Stamina. Flexibilty. A relatively pain free body. Enjoying healthy food. You are your body, and your weight loss efforts will succeed exactly to the extent that you mange to do the work on behalf of your embodied self. Youíll do much better when you focus on making positive changes to improve your health and well-being, rather than on fighting your bad habits.

Yesterday I started the morning out great by going and doing my 5k jog/walk. I am jogging half of the time now. After lunch I went outside and worked on the flower beds some more and at 3 I was tired and went down and napped till 5:45. From then on the fibromyalgia went into a major flare-up. I don't often experience what I consider a level 9 pain but last night it was so bad that's the level I decided it was. I had irritable bowls, felt nauseous at the thought of food, a major migraine that preventing me from focusing. I was shivering and sweating at the same time. It wasn't until after 11 pm. that my body started to settle down and relax and the pain subsided. It was a rough episode. Today I feel battered but not so uncomfortable that I can't think straight. It's always a relief when the episode ends but I am left feeling a bit like I'm wrung out today.
