I have a smart phone as well. for a birthday present. I didn't throw my old one away. I'm tempted to pull it back out of the box. It's not recording my exercises very well. that's one reason why I have not been posting a lot on SP. I will not let it stop my progress of becoming an Active Older adult. emoticon

Good for you!! I don't have a smart phone yet, just keep putting it off. Afraid my old one will die and I won't have much choice, think I've had it about 10 years now.

My girls have all kinds of gadgets but they don't live close enough to help me out. I will check out the Kindle I know a friend that has one and she likes hers.

I'll keep you posted on this major decision! emoticon

Yes, I am on my kindle right now. Have you tried putting in Sparks in the search engine.......and I think I may have had Best Buy show me A few things when I first got my Kindle.
I also shop on Amazon, and really everything I can do on my PC.
Even use my calculator a lot when I am doing my banking ; it is very multi functional.

Donna I am also glad to see you believe in rewarding yourself!
I know Sparks recommends it and I really think it is a positive thing to do. Looks like you pretty well have your tracking devices for Sparks and what I got a couple of years ago is the Kindle fire tablet and I absolutely love it ! ( I am speaking on the microphone right now and it saves so much time )..... it is also a computer as I have spark people on it and my private emails and as many books as I care to read plus more !
( I could never be without it again ).
( I personally do not know anything about the Garmin fitness tracker but maybe someone else does ).

I can't decide between a Tablet or a Fitness Tracker?

Has anyone used the Garmin VivoFit 3 Fitness Tracker? I don't need one to keep track of my food, I have SP for that. I don't swim or ride a bike. Mainly my exercise consists of walking and doing most things at home. Suggestions would be appreciated.

Hope all of you have rewarded yourselves

Since I started using the incentives and rewards system I have been finding creative ways to reward myself..... emoticon ..... I may change later but for now for every 30 minutes of fitness activity I give myself one dollar to put in my stash.

If I track everything for the day and stay within my calorie budget I had $0.50 ..... When I thoroughly clean one room I add $0.50 or more if it takes a lot longer.
So my rewards are including fitness activity, nutritional tracking and keeping my house organized gets a reward too.

Each month for 2017, I've had three goals: a fitness, nutrition, and weight goal. Each one has a different reward, but one always is a cash reward. On my desk, I have two jars. A large, old mason jar and a smaller jar. When I accomplish that goal for the day (eat 5 fruits/veggies, for example), a dollar goes from the small jar to the big jar. Money in the big jar has been accumulated throughout the year and will be used for an overseas trip in a few weeks. (Getting really excited for it!) This seems to have worked for me in the way that one habit is built upon the next. Plus, I don't spend money that's in the jar but would if it were in my bank account. I'm strange in that way!

The other two rewards are usually small things like music, a movie, or a book. The book really isn't a good reward for me, though, because I have a weakness for books. I just buy one (or three or six) when I see a good deal. Which is why the shelves on my bookcases are bowing from the weight and books are piled beyond my reach on top of the cases. If I'm not careful, they'll soon be piling up on the floor.

My problem is that I tend to forget to actually give myself the reward. Or I decide I don't want to spend the money.

I think I do not have the discipline to work a reward program. If I want something, I just get it. I do not want much. I usually use results as a reward. If I wanted to lose weight, the lost weight would be my reward...mostly because I cannot get the reward without achieving the goal.

I agree, Jan! We are all of us SO worth it!

Just today, I created a work of art for my cello students, and a well meaning friend wanted access to it online. I was true to myself and cheerfully declined her access because I want to be the only one to edit it. Have not heard back..sort of puts me on pins and needles as I really like to make peace with people.....but I am also proud of myself for being true to myself. Hopefully the process will get easier as I practice it. emoticon

I thought this morning that a type of reward for myself is not to put myself down when I don't do well with my health goals. So I am working on that today. I feel kind of miserable today because of not doing well the last few days so I will use kind words towards myself, the same words I give my friends. Keep Sparking everyone! emoticon

I reward myself with a new book, or lipstick. I have my eye on an elliptical/recumbent bike that I like and I've got a good chunk of money put aside.

Great ideas 52BINCE.

What about watching a tv show the rest of the family doesn't like, watch your show for a change.
Take time to play a game on your computer.
Soak in the tub with lit candles and a glass of wine or your favorite beverage or good book
Call someone you haven't visited with in a long time.

One of my faves is to just chill out with my coloring book!

Love the idea, but the problem with financial incentives is that I'm the one who pays them! So it's just moving money from one place to another, and I've never been able to hold off on buying things I need until I reach the right reward level.
I would really appreciate ideas for rewards that don't involve money. Non Financial Rewards for Non Scale Victories.

thanks for the ideas. I have set very small goals with small rewards. recently lost 5# and bought a hat. I think I will also set small daily goals (4 fo them) and add a quarter to my pot as I met them. I really need those daily habits.

i too reward myself with messages..............

There's a difference between interest and commitment. When you're interested in doing something, you do it only when it's convenient. When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses; only results.
When you get to a plateau, think of it as a landing on the stairway to your goal. And
maintenance is a lifelong plateau, so a bit of "rehearsal" for maintenance isn't the worst thing in the world

I am with you Donna ....... Even if I do not see a change on the scales when I weigh, I still have that small daily reward just for putting my ALL into it!! .... And one is a certain amt that goes into my stash for thoroughly cleaning one room ..... So a few different types of goals going on.

I love the idea of rewards and incentives. Haven't really gotten into the habit of celebrating ME!
Hopefully this thread will help all of us that we are important to us.

I guess I did reward myself last week when I bought a new pair of jeans and a cute long sleeved T for Fall. I don't buy many new clothes because I hate trying them on.

Will have to decide what my next reward will be when I reach my next weight loss goal.
It really isn't all about weight loss tho it could be exercise time or getting something done around the house that I have been neglecting, like sorting pictures or working on genealogy.

This is going to be fun, looking forward to everyone's ideas.

I enjoyed reading about everyone's ideas for rewards. I tried to make a list of rewards to give myself after meeting certain goals but that didn't work. I don't have a lot of money at the moment and other types of rewards don't keep my attention or encourage me. So I decided that every 3 months if I am still here in SP trying, working at my goals, no matter how much weight I lost (or gained), I would reward myself. So, last week I bought myself a recumbent indoor bike on a plan (only $20/month) and it is coming this week! My next 3 month mark is January and I will decided then what I want to get. It is more fun this way for me and I get to reward myself. emoticon

I think of my taking time to do sketches as rewards as I do it after finishing items on my honey-do list and my own to-do list. As far as other rewards to create incentives, I will be interested in what everyone suggests.

It is going to be interesting to hear about all the ideas and personal incentives.
(As an example, in a former workplace, they had a contest for the Biggest Loser) and did people ever come out of the woodwork for this prize!! ....the reward was around $1100 ...
Was amazing at how many pounds were shed by all those entering the contest. ....
Proves ........ WHERE THERE IS A REWARD .... THERE IS INCENTIVE.

I use rewards for myself all the time. I just bought four new plain T-shirts for winter, long sleeved, it’s a reward for being almost in the 130’s, only a couple of pounds to go.

I am probably 10 pounds away from goal, so when that happens, I am not sure what I’m gonna get yet. But I darn sure will get something ! LOL. :-)

Thanks for sharing Glory ...and another thought is books. I love to add books to my Fire ..Kindle and I don't have to leave my house! .... It is fun and some are audio .... Many are very affordable and something to think about. (I bank emoticon for quality exercise .... and also xx amount for each day I track every single morsel. (As long as I stay within my calorie amount I add to my little bank) .... You can decide on amount for various tasks. ... But I understand, time for yourself in your favorite mall is fun and good to get out of the house.

I love the idea of a reward but seldom, if ever, give myself one. Something I've wanted to do but know it will be costly ... to explain first, I don't drive, can't take buses, so I am always dependent on others to take me shopping for groceries, pet stuff, banking, etc. Before this, my husband would drive me to wherever I wanted to go, drop me off and come back when I asked. So what I've wanted to do is take a taxi to a mall that I love and that is in the other end of my city ... and spend part of a day there, myself, just taking my time to browse, stop for a coffee, etc.

In other words, though I'm grateful to have family take me to do my running around, I'd love some time out alone!

So I'm going to work on that reward, starting now. Perhaps put so much money in a separate jar each time I do my exercises or walks. When I have enough for taxi to mall and back, then AWAY I'LL GO!

Thanks for this great idea, it definitely is an incentive for me to stick to my walks and exercises Jan, thank you!

Let's talk about REWARDS: And even go a step further and mix with INCENTIVE which can bring on Motivation! .... Oh emoticon .... Truth is, we are usually generous to those we love and care about; giving them Kudos and tokens of our affections. But what about ourselves? .....So today i created an incentive program for myself .... And I also got to thinking: I know of two of our gentlemen team members who have hobbies that they love.

.....

Yes a sketch artist and another who loves to collect music dvds. ......I got this emoticon today when I visited Sephora makeup .... and decided I wanted to begin my own incentive program ........ As I do certain daily tasks, I reward myself ... YES monetarily and keep adding to my collection until I decide I have enough and then will change to something else.

Fun, frilly and downright girly ....
So ... think about it. Are you working hard but never rewarding yourself? ... It's something to think about! ..... emoticon and go ahead and reply as ideas come to you!
