Busy bee, berry!

Jin, I love napping with my terrier. She is active in the morning, and then turns into a couch potato. Just my speed.

Hope kitty is ok.

Took my old cat (18 1/2 yrs) to vet for routine blood work and to have her blood pressure checked. She has some renal issues; haven't got the results yet. She will be 19 in October. She does a lot of napping, but so do I, so we are a good pair.

I'm in the midst of our berry harvest and just don't have the time to put towards managing "stuff".

I still have to figure out how to save my personal blog collection here on SP. -- Between the farm & a family wedding the first week of August & my oldest son moving home, I'm jugging for my sanity.

On FB, a team for Sparkers was created called,

SP Family-Health, Wellness, and Motivation. It's not about Fung, but it is a good group!

There is also SP Alumni.

Hey ladies and gents, I just created Fans of Jason Fung/Intermittent Fasting on the carb manager app.

Spark mail me your email address if you want an invitation to join!

A second option is to join carb manager, get a moniker, and then send me your moniker as I can invite you that way too.

Richard, you might want to check out the team that was started below on my fitness pal. emoticon

I joined, but am unsure if I will stay with my fitness pal, as the carb manager app fits my needs so much better. The food tracker is great and it tracks carbs which MFP doesn't appear to do.

I hope to see you again, Richard!

I was on this team for a while but freaked out when SP announced they are closing and left all my teams -- but I'm here doing the final 5% Challenge so I figured I'd rejoin some of my teams.

I have been following the fasting schedule from The Obesity Code since April 1 and I'm down 20+/- pounds. I'm hooked! I''m currently re-reading the book so I can truly understand insulin resistance.

I'm also looking into maybe, gradually, moving to a lower-carb diet but I'm stlil reading about it all.
I'm also tracking on My FitnessPal (same user name) I have set up an Intermittent Fasting team on MFP if anyone is looking for a new 'home' - MFP is not Spark, that's for sure, but we can build communities there and I'm seeing a lot of former sparkers arriving every day.

Don't think there will be a FB group. I can do a Fung group on carb manager app though if enough are interested.

I've fallen out of love with FB. Too much crazy stuff there. Moderating a group on carb manager is much easier.

The team options are under "connect" at the bottom of the app. Then you go to "groups" at the top of the app. Search for a group you want. I started one called "I Challenge Myself" so you can search for that and find me. Once you add the group, you can then go to "my groups" at the top of the app (once you hit "connect") to easily find your group again.

We can start a Fung group too if that interests you.

Jin, I hope you join us at the Carb Manager app by Wombat! It is for Android or for apple, and it is a great free app! I don't want to loose talking to you! We have been on different teams together for many years.

Of course, anyone else interested can join us too!

@JINLYNN ~ That is quite the funny story!

Having to work with the public on the farm, I could write a small book on the things that have happened, been said & done. I'm sure you gave the lady answering a "memorable" re-telling.
emoticon

We are planning another BBQ picnic with family for Father's Day on Sunday. -- Also, still in conflict over adult son moving back home. There's a room that needs to be emptied. I really don't know where to put the stuff. Since he's renting a storage unit for his collection of boxes & goods, I told him he could add my items into that location so I can quit stressing about "what to do" right now!
emoticon
Temps are heating up outside. Supposed to hit the 90's. Need to mow the blueberry field again before we open for harvest. House cleaning, yard work, and quilting are all on the to-do list.
I will be getting my hair cut tomorrow. Too soon to color it again for the Aug. wedding. (That is another whole "can of worms"...the wedding that is!) I would LOVE to get a perm, but I've been told that my old-lady gray hair will not hold the curl anymore.
emoticon
And so it goes...................

@BECCABOO127 -- I poked around a small bit on the app you mentioned. I don't see any "team" options?! Do you have a link to share?

My niece and her new hubby were here for a short visit over the weekend. She is the mother of my great nephew who lives with me. We visited, did some puzzling, and ate and laughed. It was so lovely to have an in-person face to face visit. Looking forward to more of these as the restrictions ease up.

On the humorous side - I need to renew my house insurance next month and as my mother's name is still on the policy I need to find out how to have her name removed. So I phoned up my insurance company and got the list of things I need to bring to my appointment. One thing I need is a copy of the death certificate. I did have a couple of these which I put away in a "safe" place; however I can't remember where that safe place is and my search of the house has not turned them up. So I decided just to phone the funeral home and ask for a new copy. When the lady at the funeral home answered I politely asked if I could purchase a gift certificate! This was followed by an awkward silence and then I realized what I had said. I quickly corrected myself and started to laugh. I am sure I am the first person who has ever requested a "gift" certificate for a funeral home.

Also, I found a great app at the Google play store for counting carbs called Carb Manager by Wombat.

It is keto based, but does have a group for those of us that are lower carb, too. You can set your own carb goals.

Hot here too yesterday and today. I am very thankful for the AC that my parents put in the house a number of years ago.

Today I got my hair cut & styled very short for the summer. emoticon My hair is very thick and I sweat something awful in the hot summer weather.

Got word today that my older sister has been admitted into hospital for an upper GI bleed and inflamed liver. She lives in a small town and they are hoping to transfer her to the larger regional hospital tomorrow for more tests and possible surgery. It is hard to not be able to travel due to covid, but even if I could travel, the hospital does not allow visitors. Thankful for cell phones and updates from her daughters.

@BERRY4 French toast is one of my favourite comfort meals, so thanks for the link to the slow cooker recipe. I am going to check it out.

Hoping everyone has a great start to the month of June.

@JINLYNN ~ Don't know if you are interested in a crock pot French Toast recipe?
The following is on my "to try" list. Sometimes using the crock pot in the summer gets a meal ready without heating the house w/ the oven.

We've been enjoying 'already cooked' meals from the left over meats we grilled for Sunday's BBQ. We always do extra because then tasty meats & salads are ready to grab all week long.

It's been hot this week, and the farm work is ramping up. Still have bedding plants to get into pots. And the garden needs some attention.

Tried a new recipe for supper tonight – Dutch Baby Pancake, also known as a German Pancake. It is baked in the oven and it was delicious. I sprinkled it with icing sugar and served it with fresh strawberries, pork breakfast sausages, and maple syrup. I am not a great fan of regular pancakes, but really enjoyed this one. Next to French toast, this is my new favourite. My great nephew really liked it too. I have always enjoyed trying new recipes and things – guess it goes along with liking new kitchen gadgets. I did the sausages in my air fryer and they were the best and so easy.

It is never good to ground down a tooth! I've had it done so quickly and with no warning beforehand! It messed up my bite!

Sending hugs. So sorry this is happening to you.

I broke off my back molars, but opted into a bite guard. It helps preserve the teeth. I mainly clenched my teeth.

Trying to keep a positive outlook on what could be considered "poor" dental care.
Almost 3 weeks ago, I broke a portion of a back molar. Subsequently, the filling that was in it fell out. No pain. Time to see the dentist.

Scheduled a cleaning and had the dentist say, "Yes. You have a hole in your tooth." We will have you come for another appt. and work on that tooth + 2 others.

Week after that, had the work done + temporary crown placed. Day after that, temp. crown broke in pieces. ~ This past Sat. temp. crown lifted off (glue didn't hold). Wait until Monday. Hope permanent crown is ready?!

Schedule early appt for Tues. (only one available). -- Lab sends a permanent crown that requires "opposing tooth to be ground down". Opposing tooth has a crown that is already wearing thin, with porcelain chipping off. No way this is workable! (They didn't bother to call & ask!)

Now. Existing tooth gets ground down (with a great amount of sensitivity...increasing...may be getting set up for a root canal?!?!?) -- "New" temporary in place. No replacement expected to be seated until June 7th.

May need to go on liquid diet for the duration?!? Can't eat at all on the right side. Can't floss. (Before today, it was sensitive to brushing.)

Wtg with the shelves, Jin! The gardening sounds nice too. We have two guys coming Monday to do our backyard, pull weeds, etc. It will be great!

I also hired some movers to get my brother's room stuff moved to the curb for trash pick up. Some may need to be hauled to the junk yard. I can't do it all by myself anymore, but found some good guys to hire.

We have family coming on Tuesday, and I needed to get the place cleaned out. I am finally doing it!

Today I completed work on my pantry shelves. It is so nice to be able to open a door and actually find what I am looking for. I have drawers and cupboards to go through but think I might take a break to work on my bedroom. The rest of the house is guest ready, not that I am likely to have too many guests.

The landscapers are coming tomorrow to weed and do clean up of the back yard. Then it will be ready for me to putter around in. In January I ordered some plants on line and they arrived at the beginning of this month, so now I need to get them planted. Just have to figure out where I want them, but that should be an easier decision when all the weeds are gone and I can see what space is available. I guess I should have thought about that before I ordered them, but they looked so beautiful in the brochure. emoticon emoticon emoticon

@BECCABOO127 Being in the garden working with plants and playing in the dirt can be very therapeutic. You will have to share a photo of your new garden statue. And decluttering can bring such peace of mind. emoticon

Yummy food, Jin!

Berry, luck with clearing out that room! emoticon

I am doing pretty well today. I got a few plants and a sweet little angel statute at the gardening center, and had a nice time in the backyard with the two dogs. I had decluttered 4 bags of stuff which I had on the backporch, and finally got that into my trunk to drive to goodwill. Plenty more to do, but it's a good start!

Niece and her boyfriend entered into a contract to buy a house. It is a 1950s house in the neighborhood she wanted--close to her parents but not too close! lol! It has a sweet original light grey bathroom with a pink border. She wanted a pink tiled bathroom like the one we have. I told her the half bath, styled from the 70s could be redone to be a pink bathroom to match the style of the house!

I am thrilled for her. Hope the inspection goes well.

Diet, both Fung and Wahl's is working to help my brain. No new brain lesions! Oh happy day! My food and restricted eating is truly my medicine. I got a referral to PT to help my legs and balance. I am working toward better physical stamina.

Nothing exciting to report here. I did make French Onion soup last night in my instant pot. I have so many kitchen gadgets that I told myself I need to use on a more regular bases. So my new goal is to try to use each one at least once a week or every other week. My soup was very tasty. Also made a rhubarb pie which was very good. I am so looking forward to all the fresh fruit that will soon be available.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Just a relaxing day for me. Had a massage appointment in the morning followed by a pedicure. A great way to pamper myself that is also beneficial to my health and well being.

I have been working on decluttering different parts of my home and have been enjoying the results. Now my challenge is to keep the areas looking neat and tidy. I am finding that reading the decluttering book, Making Space, Clutter Free by Tracy McCubbin to be very motivating. And she does a great job of explaining the emotional obstacles behind my reluctance to get rid of things. But I am finding that purging really is good for my soul. Donation boxes are filling up, as well as the trash and recycle bin.

Excellent progress @JINLYNN
I have a large room that needs to be emptied of STUFF so that my son can move back in. Right now it is a PHD. (Piled High & Deep)

And so glad you were able to get what works for you @BECCABOO127
Sometimes one has to be proactive to get what works for them!

My daughter took off on a weekend-getaway w/ 2 other gals. It will be her last weekend off until she either changes jobs or finds a way to get a different schedule. (Right now, Wed.-Sun. every week.) -- I took her to the airport so she wouldn't have to park her car & pay there. Fortunately, traffic was more "agreeable" than usual for a Friday at rush-hour. THANKFUL!

I have a whole lot of cleaning to do. The floors are a "disaster" and so is the kitchen. Unfortunately, I would much rather be working on my quilt projects.

Wishing all a pleasant weekend!

Wow! Wtg jinn! It looks fabulous!

emoticon

I managed to change my entire bed and do a few loads of laundry today. I also made an excellent veggie beef soup. I am really trying to get back in the kitchen these days.

I went for a Reiki energy treatment combined with an excellent massage! I can't wait to return.

I am back on my b12 shots, and feel my energy returning. I was practically non functional before. I must try to find a functional health doctor if I can. They go by how u feel instead of just a number on the lab work. My nurse practioner had told me to stop the b12. It was not a good result, plus I started to lose lots of hair. The shots allow me to keep my hair.

Hope u have a great week! Your decluttering is inspiring me again.

Yesterday was a busy decluttering day for me. It started with the emoticon cat food cupboard and ended an hour and a half later. I did have some help from the cleaning lady, Shannon. She arrived after I had started to declutter and gave me a hand with the metal kitchen shelf unit. It had become a catch all for just about everything that came into the kitchen and it was difficult to locate the items I needed for doing meal prep and cooking. And I needed a spot for my newest kitchen toy – an air fryer.

The counters too are tidy and uncluttered, and the whole room is so much more appealing. Shannon loves pottery too, so I offered her the 5 pottery bowls and 1 platter that I had culled from last week’s decluttering efforts. So my goal of getting them out of the house by the middle of the month was accomplished. I also culled my collection of glass pie plates down from 8 to 3. Why I thought I needed 8 pie plates is beyond me; I can’t remember the last time I made pastry. Usually if I want to bake a pie I use frozen store bought pastry. Next place on my list is the pantries. I hate to imagine what might be lurking in there.

I did use the air fryer last night and really liked how my potato wedges turned out. And it didn't overheat the kitchen like the oven does. I think I am really going to like this new gadget.

Jin: Thanks for letting me know that Hello Fresh is good! I struggle with not having enough energy to declutter at present.

I got an O Cedar spin mop, and it is the best thing to easily mop my kitchen floor!

I really struggle with my clutter and hanging onto unnecessary and unused things. Today when I was in my kitchen I counted all the pottery bowls and platters I had sitting on a shelf - 10 bowls and 2 platters. And that does not include the metal or glass bowls. So I culled them down by half. I am not sure if I will just drop them off at the thrift store or try to sell them on facebook marketplace. I guess it would be nice if I could get a few dollars for them. However, one way or another they will have to be gone by the middle of the month. Otherwise they will just sit around in a box for months and months.

I got a rebate from my car insurance company and am thinking of buying an air fryer - I do love my gadgets - all the more reason to purge things from the kitchen that I don't need. Has anyone used one and what do you think of it? I find that with the Hello Fresh food service that a lot of things are pan fried, so I thought this might be a good way to cut back on the fat.

Wishing everyone a great week ahead and a wonderful start to the month of May!

Yikes! No thanks re rats!! (Good thing it was dead!)

* * * * * * * * * *
I have a friend caring for my critters while we are away this weekend. She thought my cat had provided a "gift" in terms of something caught. But turns out it was a live skink. When it went to "hide" by my friend's shoe, she jumped & screamed. (Funny... but not!)

We'll be back on Sunday. Hopefully kitty survives since she chooses to stay outside when we are gone.

Well today was a productive day for me more or less - a little less if the truth be told. But I did do 2 loads of laundry and got the compost & recycling out to the curb by 7:30 am. I wrote a letter to my favourite niece - don't tell her sister. emoticon I took the bird emoticon out and let her have a good bath and some quality out-of-the-cage time while the carnivore (the cat) emoticon was safely locked away in my bedroom. For the most part my cat doesn't bother with the bird while she is in her cage, but could be a different story when she is free. So all in all, not a bad day. Tomorrow I plan to do a little grocery shopping - am in need of some emoticon emoticon emoticon and emoticon emoticon emoticon . I do have the food service Hello Fresh delivered each week and that is a wonderful service. In the 5 months that I have been using it, we have only had 2 meals that we didn't care for.

Hope everyone finishes the month off well!

Wow, Jin! That is a baby chick in the clouds. I used to love cloud watching. Thanks for posting the pretty pics!

Hope everything works out ok with your cheek.

The tulips are beautiful, too, Berry!

I have been flat on my back this past week. Finally, I am feeling a little energy. I started to do core exercises in bed, and found a "Bob and Brad" PT video on YouTube for my tight hip muscle. I love Bob and Brad, Brad more than Bob though. lol!

I will be scheduling my massage soon. Foot massages are great, too!

I talked with an old work pal today for almost three hours. We crack each other up! It was good to exercise my laughing muscle. He is a good pal.

I forgot to say, wtg on your blood glucose jin! That is fantastic!!

emoticon Looks like it's been a few days since I checked in and said "HI"
You are very right about a string of sunny days! ~ Today, after church, we drove about 30 min out of town to see a small tulip field.

The nice thing was that there were NO crowds. No hassles. And it was FREE. (They had a Drop Box if people wanted to pick tulips in the area designed for that!)

@JINLYNN - So crazy about ingredients and the HUGE difference it makes as to WHAT goes into the recipe! I can't imagine eating garlic snaps! ~ Thank you for bothering to send me the recipe for the ginger snaps. (I personally have to be careful w/ ginger and not get too much. I'm one of the crazies who have a food sensitive to of all thing GINGER.)
emoticon

@BECCABOO127 - You mentioned getting a massage. Just this past week I tried something different. There was a coupon-offering for Foot Massage. Oh my! It was wonderful! I will definitely go back! (Neither of my massage therapists want to focus on FEET.) -- A great "by-product" was a GREAT night's sleep. (The gal said it WOULD make a difference in that!)

Hope you all enjoy a wonderful week!

Nice warm sunny day here as well. Went to the tulip fields with a friend and had a great time. The tulips and daffodils were gorgeous.

On the way home we stopped at a local dairy for hard ice cream - chocolate of course!

Went for some blood work yesterday to check my A1C. It was 6.4 in January 2021, and yesterday it was down to 6.1. It is my goal to get it below 6.0 by the end of the year.

Today I had a massage therapy appointment for my hip and back. I truly look forward to these times. I have been feeling a bit more pain that usual the last couple of days so I am hoping that the massage will relieve some of the tension in my muscles and joints. Then it was off for some blood work. I am having a CT scan next month and they need to make sure my kidney function is good as I am having a contrast scan. I have a smallish lump in my right cheek. It has been there for years and years - like about 15 years - but over the past year and half it has gotten a bit bigger and I am more aware of it. So my doctor wants it checked out and will probably send me to a surgeon to have it removed.

I have my appointment booked for my covid vaccination - April 25 in the afternoon.

This week started off with a day trip with my dear friend to Harrison Lake which is about a 40 min drive from where I live. It is a delightful little resort spot, and has a natural hot springs. Unfortunately, the public pool is closed due to covid. We picked up a hamburger and fries at a little stand and enjoyed a picnic lunch. I spent some time walking and enjoying the scenery.

It was a beautiful sunny day with some fluffy white clouds. One thing I thoroughly enjoy doing is watching the clouds and searching for shapes in the cloud formations. This is my favourite from that day. It looks like a baby chick to me; what do you think?

I hope everyone is enjoying their week.

@BECCABOO127 glad to hear that you got to enjoy such a pleasant day out and about. That nature walk sounds delightful. I hope you will take some photos to share with us. emoticon

@BERRY4 I will PM you my ginger snap recipe. They are so tasty. My great nephew says I make the best ginger snaps. Better than his Mom's or grandmother's. Both my niece and sister are great cooks/bakers, so that is quite a compliment.

Yesterday I decided to make a batch of ginger snap cookies. These happen to be one of my favourite cookies. The smell of the ginger and cinnamon are irresistible. I had my butter, sugar, egg, and molasses beaten together in my stand mixture. I placed my 2 cups of flour and 2 tsp of baking soda in a second bowl. I then reached into my spice drawer for the ground ginger. The spices in my spice drawer are arranged alphabetically in small 4 oz mason jars. I took out want I thought to be ginger and placed 2 tsp on top of the flour and baking soda. However, at this point I said to myself “That doesn’t smell like ginger, and it doesn’t look like ginger! What did I just put in my cookies?” Picking up the jar I read the label – something I should have done to begin with. It read garlic powder. My ginger snaps were now garlic snaps! Very unappealing to say the least. Thankfully, I had not added my dry ingredients to the wet yet, so no real harm done. I was so thankful that I noticed my error before the cookies were mixed and baked, not after. A good reminder to me to pay attention to what I am doing. The real ginger snaps are baked, and they are delicious.

It's great catching up on what everyone is doing!

@ berry, I don't have many troubles doing daily fasting. I can't imagine an extended fast, and shouldn't do it anyway due to my diabetes.

@jinn, your activities sound wonderful! I love to watch the birds too from my backyard!

@richard, so glad to see you here!

I recently attended an online silent auction event to support our local animal shelter. It was fun. I drove out to the shelter today to pick up my "winnings." I also found a great spot to take a nature walk along the way! I am planning a trip there soon, as my pals tell me what a great place it is, beside a babbling stream! I got to see the steam on my way back from the shelter. It was hidden behind a distillery in a rather funky (industrial) part of town they are trying to rehab.

I was just so happy being out, and sis was riding shotgun in her PJs! It was a sunny, beautiful day! We also stopped by a bakery and a BBQ place. I can't wait to go out again.

I am planning a massage in a couple of weeks, as I just got my 2nd vaccination for Covid. Boy, do I need a massage!

It's been a busy week for me... still more to accomplish. I've had something pretty much every day. Friday I will join a friend for a field-trip to deliver some pets to a Caretaker. I believe it will be about 45 min one way.

I'm about 1/4 of the way through the tax mess. There was an "extension" given to everyone, but as I told my son, I would rather get the got-to-do's out of the way so that I can enjoy the want-to-do's!

Starting to plan a birthday weekend for DS and DH who have back-to-back birthday's May 2 & 3. Sounds like a fun time renting a house at the beach. Even those 3 who are working from home can work from the oceanside! -- I prefer meal planning (kind of like camping) so that it will be easy & less hassle overall.
emoticon
@JINLYNN -- Did you already share your ginger snap cookie recipe? Seems like you've made those before and maybe already made it available?

I found a recipe for Keto blueberry scones. I'm thinking that will be getting made sooner rather than later!

Today was a quiet day for me. I had a good long night's sleep and woke up feeling refreshed. In the morning I did my stationary cycling - really enjoying the mini cycle I bought. My hip and leg with the arthritis is feeling stronger and I find it is not as painful as it was. Good incentive for keeping it up. Did my Bible reading and devotions followed by some one on one with my bird. She was a little grumpy today and kept biting at me. She sat on my shoulder while I made and ate my lunch. After lunch I made a batch of Peanut Butter Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookies. It was a new recipe I got from my niece and I got to test out the dough whisk I recently purchased off Amazon. The cookies are delicious. Tomorrow I think I will make up a batch of ginger snap cookies. Every so often I get in a baking mood.

Today was a lovely sunny spring day so I choose to eat my lunch outside enjoying the warmth of the sun. The neighbourhood cat who has adopted us came by and joined me. Surprisingly, she was not interested in my deli meat - just looking for some company and pets. She showed up at the end of last September looking very skinny. After a couple of weeks of hanging around my place, I started to leave food out for her. When the weather got colder I had my great nephew make a cat house for her out of a plastic tote and styrofoam cooler. I put some hay and a cozy blanket in it for her. She uses it quite a bit. When it was really cold I let my great nephew bring her in the house and she spent the night down stairs with him. My old indoor cat hates the sight of her and will start a fight every chance she gets, so I have to be careful they don't meet up. She has a scar on her tummy so she has been fixed and I don't need to worry about any other little mouths to feed.

Hope everyone is off to a great start for this month of April!

Sounds like time well spent.

I'm still working on the house cleaning. Almost 10k in steps just doing that today, plus a bit of grocery shopping. I figured that it would be better to do most of my shopping for the weekend, earlier rather than later! -- I just have a couple of additional items to get. May do so when picking up flowers to give to a friend on her birthday Saturday. (Turns out we are 10.5 yrs apart in age!)

Found out that we have an automatic extension for getting taxes done. Thankful for that!

Dinner was some home-raised meat. Just added broth & veggies!

Thankful to know just exactly what is in some of our food! -- The closer I get to one-ingredient foods, the better it is, health-wise!

Met up w/ a lady to help her get some goods from Costco. She was hoping to get an iron, but it seems to be a "dying art". -- We use one in our quilting. So an important "tool" for some of us!

Met up with a dear friend for lunch in a park. We each brought our lunch/drink and sat outside at a picnic table and had a wonderful visit for about an hour & a half. It was so lovely to catch up with her. The weather, though not ideal, was adequate - no wind or rain and every so often the sun would peek out from behind the clouds. We enjoyed it so much that we decided to do it again on her days off.

I hope that everyone was able to get out and enjoy the outdoors today too.

I see it has been almost a week since I posted here. I guess it's because I lead a boring life emoticon

Not much new here. The weather was nice today and yesterday I saw some green growth on a few of the trees in my neighbourhood - a sure sign that spring is here. In the fall I planted about 20 daffodil bulbs in my front yard planter and all of them are up about 7-8 inches and have buds showing, so it won't be long before they are in bloom. And last week the fellow came to cut the lawn - the first cutting of the season. Today I took my Bible and devotional book outside and sat on a chair in the sunshine and enjoyed the time outside. It was so calming. In the past my Mom and I would often sit out there on a nice day enjoying the sights and sounds. My back deck faces north and is still in the shade. I usually put a lot of flowers and plants out there during the summer and like to sit there and observe the different birds that come to my feeders, along with all the silly antics of the neighbourhood squirrels. Sometime they are so entertaining.

Hoping everyone has a good night's sleep emoticon .

Spent time on Saturday mowing the lawn, cleaning up fallen branches, and some general weeding and sprucing up.

Finished another quilt top today, bringing my total for donation to 27 this year! Time to set this aside for other things that NEED doing!
emoticon
Trying to figure out what all to fix for family gathering next weekend. Thinking of having each person bring something to contribute so the whole thing isn't on me.

Definitely need to do some cleaning & "sprucing" up INSIDE. Dust bunnies & spider webs in corners need to GO. Scrubbing would be useful in several locations!

Part of me wants to fast for the week. The other part still wants food...more than I need. Sigh!

Thank u, Richard for the info on the meats! We appreciate it!

@jin, your online visit with family sounded very nice. I am glad it is helping u through the hard times. I focus on precious memories too of my parents and two siblings that have transitioned. I still love them and miss them.

@berry, walking three times I week is a great start! I have been walking around the backyard with my dogs. I enjoy getting the sunshine. The quilt that your friend did is inspiring for me too! I am trying to practice more self care and attempting to journal and make "art dates" for myself. Take more time to do what I enjoy, like coloring, sketching, and playing the piano!

By the way, I may never eat pork again! lol!

Someone sent me Easter goodies that I ate! Once in a while, I will do this. I hope someday, I don't do it anymore. However, I get right back on track and emphasize the positive in my WOE. I fixed a great chicken veggie soup with all my different Wahl's protocol veggies (green, sulfur, and colorful). It really helps how my body feels when I am compliant with Wahl's. I am putting a prayer out to the universe that I find a good functional health doctor and/or functional health neurologist. I really need someone who respects that what we eat and the timing of when we eat can help us a lot!

I am so happy to be on the Fung team. You ladies and gents are great!

Spring on!

emoticon @RKOTTEK for the link re. processed meats.

I had heard that there was more than one issue with eating that type of meat too often. -- We had it in the house more when the kids were making sandwiches for lunches. Now that the kids are grown & on their own, it isn't something I buy much of at all.

Here's some info as to being cautious in the eating of pork. -- Apparently even the meat that posts, "no added hormones" still has ISSUES.

Such an interesting mix of history, lineage, experiences, loved ones, loss....

My favorite relative was full Italian. I've never seen another man care so kindly for a cantankerous woman. (my mom's cousin.) -- I dated a guy in college who was half Italian (his dad) & half Japanese (his mom). Great guy, but he wanted 12 kids! (I said there were many ways to have children in one's home without my birthing all of them!) -- It's not like I was starting out at 18 yrs of age. I ended up being an "older" mom with my first child at age 31.
Oy vey! emoticon

My mom would have been 90 on Mar. 17th. ~ And she passed on Aug. 6th. She had managed to live until my brother got married, even though she was failing for a year.

@BECCABOO127 ~ As to Spring walks, I'm starting to do so, but still only managing about 3 each week. When I was going to head out on Monday on the local trail, the rain showers were intermittently passing through. From experience, this is NOT where I want to be in a "soaker", whether "passing" or not!

We are supposed to have some nicer, warmer days coming. DH wants to work on the blackberries some more. I need to Spring-clean the house for company! And, of course, those annoying taxes are not yet done! -- The nights are still cold, and the wood stove is in use at least one time each day. So, more wood needs to be piled up on the back porch. (DH is attempting to take the wood storage place & turn it into a greenhouse. So...the wood needs to be removed!)

Wed. is when I visit my elderly friend. Here's a picture of a recent quilt that she finished! She continues to inspire me to push through difficulties and make the best of each day that I'm given.

Sunday would have been my Mom’s 101st birthday. For the past couple of weeks leading up to the 21st I had been struggling and missing her. When the day arrived, I was surprised by how peaceful I actually felt. My two sisters and I arranged to do a video chat in the afternoon and that was very healing. It was comforting to share our memories and just be together. I had also received some calls and texts from other extended family and friends, and I found comfort there too. I think the next big hurdles will be Mother’s Day and August 1st, the day of her passing. I need to keep reminding myself to take it one day at a time and to focus on the precious memories I hold dear.

@berry, sorry to hear your trip had some additional excitement! Glad you made it back in time.

Everyone's St Paddy's Day meals sound great! I am 50 percent Irish, but had leftover pasta and meat sauce yesterday. I am also 50 percent Italian with a bit a greek thrown in! My mom was italian. I remember going to my grandparent's farm. I loved their farm and house! So many good memories!

Grandpa immigrated first, and the grandma came a few years thereafter. My uncles Pat and Ernest were born in Italy. All the other aunts and uncles were born in America. I miss them all so much!

I think I may have a homemade navy bean soup in my near future! Have to find the frozen bit of ham I stored.

We may have some bad storms later on today. Hopefully, it not as bad as what hit Alabama yesterday. I do not like tornadoes!

BERRY - I am sorry to hear about all that extra excitement you had to deal with on your lovely day away. That open bridge sounds awesome! Good you made it back home in one piece, LOL. Beautiful picture - I am guessing ........are you in Oregon? California?

Yesterday DH & I we were busy. We removed two large area rugs from living room then moved furniture around and cleaned hardwood flooring to prepare the living room for a rug delivery today.

Our corned beef dinner was delicious last night. We ate it all - no leftovers for tonight.
So I have a chicken roasting in the oven.

Perfectly beautiful day!

We found a quaint little Sandwich & Soup Shop on the way to the Coast. The chicken salad sandwich was very tasty to have after walking on the beach for over an hour! -- Then we sat on a log and enjoyed watching & listening to the wave action & people playing w/ their dogs!

DD needed to get home for an unusual outing she added on to the day. Unfortunately, the return trip included driving in the midst of a major metropolitan traffic MESS for go-home traffic. Add to the timing, a service van with a blown out tire on the side of the road. An accident involving a semi-truck on the ramp onto the Interstate. AND a bridge lift where we had a front-row seat watching a crane move down the river. (That's a FIRST for me!)

I don't believe I've had that "list" of insanity to deal with all in ONE trip, ever before! -- I guess the 'good news' is that I was able to deliver her to her friend's place w/in a minute of the "deadline" AND get home with myself & my vehicle in one piece.

Aye yi yi ! ! !

Happy St Patrick's Day.

Thanks for the Welcome BERRY.

You have a lovely day planned with your daughter, enjoy!
We, as our parents, were born in American with Polish/Italian families.
But it is fun for all of us to be a little Irish today.

It's your Mom's birthday today - I do understand.
I lost my Mom in 2004 and I miss her and think of her every day.

My corned beef is simmering on the stove now and I can't wait for my dinner. emoticon

@KATHLEEN624 Glad you "took the jump" into our chat! Feel free to interact in whatever way suits you. Ask for support if needed, etc. There are a number of Threads that allow for sharing and interaction!

My mom's birthday would be on March 17. But she's been gone since 2001. I do miss her, but I know she would be so confused over the current state of our world. I'm glad she isn't having to deal with any of it!

None of us are particularly "irish", but DH & I do enjoy a pot of corned beet & cabbage, potatoes, onions, and carrots! (I fixed this up in the crock pot last week. It served us for several days!)
emoticon
DH is the first of his family to be born in the U.S. His heritage is Dutch. -- My background is a definite "mix" with English, Scottish, and Hungarian all "swirled" together.
emoticon
My DD and I are planning a day trip to a coastal beach for St. Patty's day. Her Bday was Monday, and she is struggling with a difficult job scenario (looking for a replacement job!). Anyway, she invited me to "play hooky" for the day and go to a place we both love! Looking forward to walking in the sand & surf and listening to the controlled power of the wave action tomorrow! -- We haven't spent enough time "making memories", so that is what we intend to do.

I am just going to jump in and say HELLO.
JINLYNN so interesting about what they find out with DNA. 45% Irish is quite a lot!
Making Irish pork stew sounds delicious and something different. I have never had that. Hope it comes out good.

We, DH & me, love corned beef and cabbage and make it every year. I always say the only thing about me being Irish is my first name - Kathleen. We are not Irish but enjoy the holiday with usually having a corned beef family dinner. We have two adult married children and three grand children and we all love corned beef. Because of COVID last year we didn't get together and again this year we will not be doing dinner.
On happier note we are looking forward to having them all over for Easter Sunday dinner.

I have been following Keto for several years and recently I tried adding IF to my day. I worked my way up slowly to finally OMAD. That is what I am following now for a self challenge I started 2/15th and ending on 4/4 which is Easter Sunday.

Wednesday is St. Patrick's day, and to celebrate my Irish heritage I am going to make an Irish Pork Stew. In the past I have made corn beef & cabbage, but decided this year to make something different. When I had my DNA tested about 4 years ago, it showed that I had about 45% Irish heritage. That was a big surprise to me, but perhaps that is where I get my mischievousness from, along with my quirky sense of humor. Anyways, ever since then I try to do something to connect with the Irish heritage.

Anyone else doing anything to celebrate St. Patty's Day?

A few days ago my great nephew cleaned up the garage and today he made a run to the garbage dump. So I was able to get my car back in the garage - I am sure it was a shock for the poor old girl. He had been doing some work on his car as well as some home improvements in my basement so he had his tools all laid out in the garage. He turned 19 in November and he is a really nice young man. I am so thankful to have him around, especially since my Mom is gone. Its comforting to have someone else in the house. And he is very helpful in doing the odd jobs that I can't do because of my arthritis or just being too short to reach things.

Two and a half hours later and the lawn IS mowed + several wheelbarrows full of dug out briars. I so wanted to get to that before they put out their runners and took root all over the flower beds. Now I have scratched up ankles. At least I kept on a long sleeve top so my arms didn't get all scratched up!

It sure does look nicer out the front window! emoticon emoticon emoticon
Easter is 3 weeks away. I'm planing to have the extended family over to enjoy each other around the table! Plenty of inside cleaning to get to with that in mind.

Heading back to sew for an hour or so. -- Steak fajitas for dinner tonight.
