Hi, I,too, have been a sparks person for a long time. I can't remember when I started. I have lost 10 lbs but have leveled off. I need to be more active. I am not motivated to get out of my chair. Winter is depressing. Now, that the sun is up,I tend to move more. It is good to read each person's journey. It helps me to stay on track. It is nice to be back on a team.

Hi. I've been on sparks for a long time (since 2009) but I only moved back to Lansing about a year ago and it never occurred to me until just now to switch my team from Ann Arbor to Lansing.

I'm married, no kids or pets, and currently in job limbo as I graduated last year with a PhD in anthropology but am still looking for a job. For fun, I like to read, craft (knitting, beading, braiding, and weaving primarily), play video games, and am a member of a living history organization called the Society for Creative Anachronism with my husband. We are both fencers in the SCA.

Hi, I'm Meg. I am new to SP. I tend to have trouble keeping motivated and am really hoping that reaching out in groups like this will help. Make me feel, kinda, accountable to someone else. Ripleybird congratulations on making progress already!!! Welcome to the sp Lansing team!! I've had good results with SP too. There are a lot of wonderful supportive sparkers.

Haven't heard from the Lansing team leaders about any meet and greets but I mall walk with another SP Lansing member (ODAT1117) at meridian mall every week. She leads the OMAT goals SP team. It's a nice supportive team for reaching monthly goals if you are interested in sharing your health goals etc.

Hi all!

Call me Den. I am new to the area and looking for some Spark Friends locally. I moved to Lansing last August, and since then my weight has been crazy dealing with all the transitions in my life. I've been reading a book that's talked about how people who set to do things in groups do better than those who try on their own...so here I am, up this morning deciding to put that in motion. Hello all! I am excited to be back on Spark People. I lost 65 lbs 5 years ago and reached my goal using this site, I am now back to do it again after the birth of my 3rd son. Hi, my name is Harriet, I live in Haslett, am married with an 11 year old son; I work on the west side of Lansing. Lost 40 pounds on my own last year, but promptly gained back about 15 of them. So now I'm trying to gear my head up to start again, with another 50 pounds to lose. I am 55 and am finding it really hard to change how I think about and relate to food, as well as to incorporate exercise in my life without my family resenting the time it takes. Just gotta do it, I guess.

I am about 250 and would like to lose about 100 pounds at least, but i have such a hard time getting started, probably because the bar looks so high from here. Setting the small goals is so smart and i hope you stick to them! I'm gonna try too!!

My name is Robin and i joined Spark in another attempt to get healthier and lose weight. I have been overweight since I was a teenager and have tried so many different "diets" since then.. and i'm 35 now. I have 3 kids who keep me busy, but i am looking for some more motivation than them to help me really lose this. I recently tried Yoga for overweight people and really enjoy it, but then i hurt my arm pretty bad when i went sledding with my kids a couple weeks ago so i haven't been to yoga. I hope that joining this local group i can find some "losers" nearby for some friendly motivation.

Greetings to fellow SPARKS - I was on this a couple of years ago and didnt really do much to get back in shape or get healthy - NOW is the time. I use to play sports & be really active, in Jan 2010 I broke my Left Ankle with a slip on the ice - No walking or weight bearing for 12 weeks, then slowly got back to some things with 6 screws & a small plate still in my ankle... In Dec 2010 all the hard ware was removed & I just became LAZY. It's now been a whole year since I have been told I can go back to being active & I have not! SO when I recently saw a friend who was almost as big as I was last year at this time, shrunk over 60lbs, I cried. Happy tears for her and disappointment for myself. I LOVE to work out, with weights and doing cardio - but getting my butt to the gym is 95% of the battle. I have started logging in everything I eat & jump started my workout plan with Boot Camp for 4 weeks! Looking for friends to work out and just support each other along the way. Haslett, MI emoticon

Hello I am Robin. I am new to Spark People. I was previously logging my food and exercise into Fitness Pal but really needed some motivation from others. I am 48 years old and have struggled with my weight really my whole life from one extreme to the other. I suffered from Anorexia/Bulima for ten years. I was able to break that cycle finally when I got pregnant with my son. During my pregnancy I gained 68 lbs. That was 23 1/2 years ago. I am still struggling. To complicate matters I am also a Type II Diabetic and have been for many years. The added weight only
makes this condition that much worse. I really need to conquer this once and for all! I am looking at retiring in ten years and I want to enjoy my retirement not be plagues with ongoing health issues.
Any support I receive is most appreciated.

Sounds like you're having a bit of a hard time.... You may want to consider going to the Mall (I know it's a 15 mile drive, at least), or if not, just doing the ten minute exercise sessions they have posted on this website. I walk at night, although I usually take my cell phone and tell my husband what my route is and when I should return, not that it's bad neighborhoods I'm walking through, but you just never know. Today is pretty hot, maybe go to a large store that air conditioned and walk around the perimeter of it a few time.

Anakie, the weather has definitely made it difficult for my wife and I to do the running we had planned this summer. For a while there is was not very cool at any point during the day.

I'm not exactly from Lansing, but a small town about 15 miles away. I have been overweight since before moving here 15 years ago,. I walk a lot during the school year, dropping my daughter off at school gives me access to a wonderful walking track before the day gets too hot for me to use the weather as an excuse for not walking. The summers have always been harder for me because I wilt when the temps go above 75.
I started using this site about a week ago and find myself doing more moving and am more aware of what I am eating.
I will lose the weight this time, and I will keep it off.

Do not see much interaction on this group page. Hopefully there are people that are checking this.

Slowly gained weight since high school and then my wife suffered a back injury about 4 years ago that limited her mobility. After many surgeries not much seemed to help. So between retail management and taking care of her we both let ourselves go.

Last year her health improved and we were able to start running. We completed a few 5Ks.

This year from some reason we decided to jump from 5Ks to Half Marathons. We have completed two already and are registered to do the Capital City River Run in September.

We have changed our diet to a healthier one and I am starting my second month of Beachbody's Insanity program and she is about to finish Beachbody's 10 Minute Trainer.

Can we get this group back to life!? Does anyone have some paddles! Clear....

Hello neighbors! I joined this team today as I noticed "Lansing" to be way down the list of exercise logged on this site. I am having a hard time getting off my butt! Hi Everyone! I'm Monique. I moved to Lansing last fall for my job and have finally gotten serious about my health. I recently joined Gym Bumz in Lansing and have been taking advantage of their classes. I do a mix of zumba, spinning, body flow, and body pump. Just joined a week ago and still getting the hang of all the options available. I need something to "spark" my weight loss. It a tuff road for me as I seem to be heavy on the carbs ( I like them) based on the analysis and did not realize how much! Hi, I'm Meredith. I may be jumping the gun on joining a bit (!) as I currently live in Southfield, MI, but my husband and I are building a home in DeWitt and will be moving in April.

I have 35 of 40 pounds still to lose (started on 1/3/11) and love the idea of having support in and around my soon-to-be new home!

Tracker shows my short-term goal. Long-term plan below:

Hi Everyone,
My name is JJ and I am looking forward to losing the weight that has been increasing each year. My youngest is 5 years old so the 'baby fat' excuse is LONG GONE! My goal is 50lbs and I am sure that through my commitment and the support of others in the area that we all can meet our goals.

I have a history of yo-yo dieting and going through bursts of fitness and nutrition but its the long term follow through that needs HELP!

Can wait to LOSE!

Hey everyone, my name is Jamie! I signed up for this site just a few days ago and am just making my way to the Message Boards.

I have struggled with my weight for most of my life. Hopefully this site will give me the tools I need to make the necessary changes to be healthy forever.

Hello, I am trying to loose 10-15lbs. I lost 80lbs through Sparrow Weight Management about 8 years ago, but I am starting to see some regain of weight.

Hello everyone! I'm new to this site. I've been playing around with it for about a week now. I'm excited there's a Lansing Team to help encourage and motivate me. Unlike many of my peers, I love Lansing. I love the river trail (it's a gorgeous week to take advantage of it) and I want to live here healthfully.

NEVER EVER use the word 'diet'. It isn't a diet, but a lifestyle change. I have some blogs you can read. They are titled weight-loss discovery. There are twenty tips from successful sparkpeople members who have successfully lost weight. It really begins with what you think, because you will speak what you think, and act on what you speak. So speak positive! I wish you luck on your journey!

Hello! I just signed up to this site tonight. It looks like it will be really helpful! I live in Portland and work in Lansing. It will be nice to get to know some people and have some support! I'm at the point when I mention diet my family laughs at me. They know I never follow through. emoticon

Hey Everyone! I'm Trina. I am in Lansing, MI. and would LOVE to find someone else close by. I have no friends, and it's so hard to motivate myself. My husband offered to let me join Fitness for $10 a month, but I do not drive, and would have to walk. It's quite a walk with Winter coming up. I am 31, married to a fabulous man, have four great kids ages 13, 11, 11, and 7. I love to be creative. I cook and bake from scratch, decorate cakes, write poetry, and do crafts. It's great to meet you!

Hello! I just signed up on Spark yesterday and I'm hoping this will be the motivation and accountability I need to stay on track with being healthy!

I live in Lansing with my boyfriend and spoiled fur kids, work for the state, and run my own crafting business making jewelry from buttons and various other items!

I'm hoping to lose 2 pounds a week by eating right and setting my goals to be achievable.
