Thursday is weigh in day for the Big Loser Challenge I am doing. we just finished with week 8 and I lost 1 pound this week. Not bad for someone who sort of lost it over the weekend when surrounded by Halloween candy! I have now gone from 239 to 214. That is 25 pounds lost over a period of 14 weeks (12 of those pounds were lost during 8 weeks of the Big Loser Challenge).Key words for me now are MOMENTUM and MOTIVATION.

Hi everyone. I re-joined SP on July 26 2016 weighing in at 239. It has taken me 3 months to lose 24 pounds. I feel good but I still have a long way to go. Now that I (sort of) have my diet under control I know that the next step is to increase my cardio and strength. For cardio I am going to try the C25K program. Today I finished W1, D1. My plan is to do the C25K app on Monday, Wednesday and Friday while dedicating Tuesday and Thursday to some strength training.

Completed W1/D1 (for the 3rd time), it's been a long week... Tomorrow I start going to a different gym where I will have more time to work out. I'm looking forward to the change.

Ran my first 5k on Sunday! I had four goals-to finish, to not finish last, to jog the whole time, to finish under 45 minutes. I'm proud to say I met them all! I never stopped or walked and we finished in 44 minutes. Yes, I run very slowly lol. I have my sights set on a half marathon next October. I have another 5k in October and then one more in November. After that, I want to focus on some 10ks and 15ks in the new year with a few 5ks sprinkled in. Yup, I'm addicted!

I just repeat the day until I actually make it. It took me three weeks and 8 runs total to finally complete Week 4 (that last 5 minutes was a toughie). Some people recommend skipping it and moving on to the next day or week, then after a few runs go back and do it. Don't give up!

I finished a couple of weeks ago. I am still trying to work up the courage to run outside, having been on the treadmill, and now I am getting my strength back after getting sick.

I just finished my Week 1 Day 3. I really think that I need to repeat Week 1 since I actually had to walk through a couple of run cycles....any advice?

I just finished Week 1 Day 2. This is a huge accomplishment for me since I have not run in my adult life. The last time that I ran was in school and that was over 30 years ago!

Yeah, I think I'm going to increase the intensity and start C25K over again. Right now, my heart rate is at the high end of where I want it to be, so I know the intensity is right for my current fitness level. When I re-start the program, I'll let my heart rate be my guide to determine intensity.

I don't know that I'll ever run any kind of race at all, but I like knowing that I could if I wanted to.

Kerella,

I just started, but I can tell you that my long-term plans are to probably repeat at higher intensity to improve pace, and then bump up to the 10K realm to boost my endurance. I don't know that I'll ever run a full marathon because I just don't like running that much (yet?), but staying with a healthy routine that I feel confident with for the long term would be nice.

I've got a question for y'all. What comes after W9D3? I'm trying to decide what to do when I get there (I'm on W6D2). Do I try to train for a 10K? Do I double-back and repeat 5K training at higher intensity? What I love about the Couch-to-5K program is the accountability and short-term goals, so whatever I do next will need to have that. What are y'all planning to do?

I just found this site/group/thread, so I finished the CT5K program (phone app) a week ago. It was a grueling 8 weeks, but I was very motivated! I'm currently working to increase my speed because I'm a very slow runner (still about 50 lbs overweight). I LOVE RUNNING! I may not look pretty, but it feels so good to complete a run. I just registered for my first 5K run that will happen on July 4th. I'm so looking forward to it....and getting to know all you awesome CT5K runners!!

Gracetograce-- I think feeling ill is your bodies way to say little too much. I tend to slow down when that hits. Maybe that will help. I'm pretty sure your not running after you eat. I eat at least 2 hours before I run unless it's fruit then it's a 1/2 hour. Don't give up!

I DID IT!!!!! Did the Color me Rad 5k in Virginia Beach on Saturday 4/19! Such a great high!

Don't give up those who are working on it. Such a great feeling!

I think I'll go on to 8k training. So awesome!

Smiler83. You just keep moving..thats all. WAlking, or if your up to it running and walking intervals. You will be amazed at how fast you actually progress if you just stay faithful to your daily baby steps in the right direction.

When I started running around 2008 I was 54 pounds over weight in horrible physical shape and I remember thinking if I run to the end of the driveway I will drop dead. But I walked and then I started c25k and it was hard but I got through it and made so many friends. I even ran a 10k at one point. In the last few years though my work distracted me and I ended up eventually falling right off the wagon. Now I'm 25 pounds overweight in horrible shape and starting over. Its tough again...but this time I know..that being faithful and patient with the baby steps gets you huge rewards and in less time than you might think.

So celebrate you...every good thing you do and enjoy the journey. Cheering for you and me.

Heather Dawn

Oh and....I did it....2/2/ of c25k found it tough I'm low energy today...but yeah....for stubbornness. lol

Have a great day everyone.

Working on c25k, taking twice the time required to move through the "weekly" progressions. Managed the 3 min section but am scared to try the 5 minute. I will get there though!

Hey smiller83, I started learning to run after 30 years of not running over a distance of 10 feet at a time. Pathetic does not even describe my first attempts, but keep at it, even slow and short distances. Try 15 seconds and then walk, or run for 2 houses down the street and walk.... Keep the faith, every day you can go a bit farther. Progressing slowly is a good way to go. Avoid injury and build your endurance. You CAN do it.

Congrats!!

I tried to "run" the other day (actually about a week ago) and it was pathetic. I don't know what to do. I am so fat and out of shape. It is very depressing.

But, I am very happy for you. There is a 5K/2K run/walk coming up on May 17th that I would love to do, but I think that it is too hard.

Anyway, congrats again.

Completed week 1!!! I was having such a hard time in the past completing even W1D1, but then I realized I was trying to run to fast. I slowed it down and was able to complete the whole week. YAY!!

Nicole, I know what you mean! I want to do the same thing, but I'm trying to vary things so I don't injure myself doing too much too fast.

Yay, MTLPN36! You're doing great! I bet those were tears of joy!

Cannot believe it but I actually completed week 5 day 3 this morning! Am feeling on top of the world right now! It doesn't seem possible that I actually ran for 20 minutes straight. I actually cried....

W2D1 done! And easier than I thought it would be! I am amazed with myself. I wasn't sure I'd still be going at it after giving it a week, but I find myself really enjoying the running.

Would it be crazy and too much for me to do more than three days? Maybe every day M-F? Because every day I wake up just wanting to run! Who knew that would happen?!

This is crazy! lol I never in my wildest dreams imagined I'd ever actually enjoy running! emoticon

Stop trying to paddle against the current. Instead, point your boat downstream, put down your oars, and go with the flow. Enjoy life because that's what its all about.

This feels GREAT! Third day complete! Looking forward to doing it again on Friday! I now think it's completely possible for me to grow to enjoy running. Woohoo!

Hi People,
New to the team, not SP. I've done C25K before, but stopped running a while back and became a slug. I hate slugs.
Soooo,
I downloaded the C25K app on my phone and as of today, I'm at week 2, day 1. Yay, me!
Now, if I could just get off the treadmill and find a road under all this snow....
Be well!
Fran

Good for you! Stick with it...you will be amazed at what you can accomplish. I am finishing up doing it for the second time at a slightly faster pace. It sounds crazy, but I actually look forward to it now! :)

Looking forward to W1D2 on Friday, after some serious snow shoveling tomorrow. :)

Working my way back through C25K Treadmill at a slightly faster speed! I will have to do these repeats several times before I am doing 5K distance at 'above a snail's pace', but I can tell such a difference from a cardiovascular perspective.

I will run my first day of week 9 tomorrow. When I started this (no prior running experience), looking at what lay ahead always caused me to think 'there's no way I'll be able to run xx minutes'. This is an amazing program to show what a person is capable of if they just persevere because now when I think about a 30 minute run tomorrow morning, I know I CAN! Hang in there, everyone.

Congratulations to you 5Kers. I tried one in October but wasn't able to run the whole thing. Can't wait to try again.

I ran my first 5k on Thanksgiving! It was hard, but I was running with a friend and keeping pace with her really made me push myself. It was a huge accomplishment for me just to finish, and not have to walk any of it. I remember how hard it was just to do the first day of C25K. I never would have thought I could actually run a 5k. Now I'm training for a 10k!

that is a very big deal, congratulations. You can't finish if you don't get started.
