Went hiking for the first time in forever today. I missed it! My semester was so hectic that there was barely time to train. I ended up getting my exercise in by becoming a runner and I actually ran my first HM last month!

Anyway, the hike today was gorgeous. The weather was perfect, the company great, and the view from the top of the mountain was crystal clear. emoticon

Plan to get one more Sedona hike in then head out...have to get back home sometime. We had planned on shooting for home on Friday, but that is clearly out of the question! So Saturday is the new goal. It's been a great adventure, and we're still sore from GC hiking, but it's a good sore.

Snow, take care of the back! I know how you're feeling, been there many times after stooping, bending, squatting too much in the yard/garden!

emoticon emoticon Oh no! I worked to hard and my back is hurting really, really bad! I think I pulled a muscle on each side lifting heavy ceramic pots and 8 50 lb bags of dirt all in one day. NOt to mention the hours I stayed stooping while planting...and other such gardening calestenics. Today was miserable...of course I went to the gym despite it all, and then hiked...but hey- it was 75+ degrees out and hardly a breeze! Yes, not the brightest thing to have done, 'cause now Im headed for tree-age. Yoo hoo, Kelpie - are you in there? Am I all alone now? Well........this sucks. emoticon

HI Kay!!! Your report made me smile a lot!!! I love that you went to the Grand Canyon and got to hike down into it..... and Sedona? Woah..... did you steal my bucket list or what??

I gotta go lay down..... ***SNOW***

Bet your yard and gardens look great, Snow, after all that hard work!

Larry and I are both aching today....that hike into the Grand Canyon was wonderful hard work of the very best kind! Only bad spot was when my "Life is Good" had flew off my head and over a cliff....as a guy we met on the way up said, there is now a very well dress big horn sheep out there, or a nicely attired barrel cactus.... But we had a great day, 4 hours down, a little over 5 hours back up, not too bad! We found a hotel in Sedona to spend a couple of nights, with a hot tub to soak our sore muscles, and we'll be looking for some mountain biking and a park to stretch in today. That's the hard work for today!

OOOOOOOooooh my aching everything! The hardwork today was all in the yard! Raking the tilled soil. making the grounds level and free of debris, tons of upper body work and stooping galore.Lifted all kinds of ceramic pots, bags of super soil and used every tool to cut , shop, and snip. I cant believe how the hours fly by when Im focussed like that.... I worked past when I was going to the gym to take one of my fav classes even!

The annoying part of the day? 20 mile an hour winds at times made me crazy, and it was a chilly wind that cut right thru me as the day went on. But...got everything on the list done as well as feeding everything after watering. The wind would have left my garden really stressed so Im glad I had this timed well.

My hands are totalled, both frozen and tired and cramping. But I feel great! There is so much I have yet to do, but like Maui can atest to....when we work hard all day, its so worth it when we are done! Tomorrow the workout classes take precidence...and surely if the sinds are gone, I will hike as well...and then the yard is my reward. Im feeling all kinds of muscles that I dont use with my normal activities I guess.... my butt is screaming from all the stooping, and my quads are achey....so might just look not so bad this summer in those shorts!! emoticon ***SNOW***

Heading out shortly for today's adventure before the wedding...Taliesin West tour (a Frank Lloyd Wright building and grounds) and hopefully some exploring of one of the regional parks that has many hiking and biking trails, and a campground. Larry really wants a stretch, so I may get a yoga opportunity as well.

Rewarded myself with tea yesterday, I went a little (read REALLY) nuts there, the teas were all so wonderful....but I should be fully stocked on tea for quite a while.

Morning ladies!

Kay- well done...you continue to 'set the bar' , healthy, consistent and honest.
I would miss a word you write.

A a smaller swim suit, how excellent is that? Congrats.

Kelly- workouts getting better...yay! Great news...getting past the 're-boot' phase, always a good day.
I too can feel the hunger when I increase workouts. I think this is why I have been OK these last couple months...no huge cardio...no big hunger.

Me- I can feel my foot and knee after Thursday, fri sat sun...working all day on my feet.
Not going to get upset by this news...I HAD to get the plants in and take advantage and they are all happy as can be, even with the wind and big heat of yesterday. They are going to take off. But my r foot is inflamed...I stepped up the pace too fast I guess...bleh. So, Inflammatory creme and elevation, ice....nipping this in teh bud. And heading back out today...just taking better breaks.

Being good, doing the hard work...gosh.
But, I am heading out to pick strawberries...hehe...
Counting weeks till the kids are all here and grandkids. Little Caelen will come pick berries with me. :) It's all good.

I always think I reward myself too much based on my visa bill, then I look and realize it's all house stuffs - does that still count? Tee hee

Oh, that would be so great if both your metabolism has kicked up AND you can eat intuitively. I strive for the day where I will achieve balance and be in harmony with my body that way. It's happened before...good luck to you!

I had a great ride last night. Had a headache and was tired when I got home. But I came home, put my cycling stuff on right away and just did it. It felt great being out and I woke up today with a smile on my face.

Didn't make it to the gym this a.m. as I had to take the car in, and I was planning to ride to my friends direct sales party tonight, but I really don't want to ride home in the dark with the amount of ice still out there, so I am committing to bodyflow during the day.

Mauima - dare I ask what your hard work is today?

Kelpie, as you are in triage, I am thinking rest is likely your hard work

Snow - are you taking care?

Kits - what does your hard work look like today?

Cheers,

Kelly

Yeah, sometimes I feel like I deserve to reward myself more, and sometimes I feel like I reward myself too much! Oh, the conundrum!

I hear you on the hunger that comes with upping the workouts, Kelly! I've been so hungry this week....maybe my metabolism has kicked it up, because I actually also dropped back down on the scale...it's a bit strange to be eating at maintenance, and see the scale drop again, especially after that high sodium day last Tuesday....I went from a scale weight if 127 on Tuesday a week ago to 121.2 today (9 days later, hardly fat loss!) Crazy stuff! So I track today, then for the next week or so, I'm just eating intuitively, and see what happens.

Foggy out today, I can't see the mountains! And I'll be walking in, might be interesting!

Evening Ladies!

Mauima - sounds like you are doing everything right!

The workouts are already getting easier over last week! I feel very encouraged and proud of myself. Although, it has been hard on occasion to get outside on the bike because of the weather, so far I am meeting all of my fitness goals.

Now, the diet has to come. You are so hungry your first week of weight training/exercising that last week it just wasn't going to happen - this week it needs to!

Kay - wow, you really do deserve a vacation - enjoy! Um, yeah, a lose swimsuit is a recipe for disaster! Not only that, but you have totally earned the thrill of going in and buying that smaller size - enjoy your new clothes.

I hadn't even noticed the many K's on here!

Cheers,

Kelly

Hey all! Been working hard...and with a vacation coming up, I'll have to cram in 2 weeks worth of work into 4 days....but it will be nice to be able to get away for a while.

Taxes and oil change are done! Larry did the oil change for me, gotta love that man! emoticon I did my taxes, though, couldn't ask him to do those for me! He had enough doing his business and personal taxes. I just have to say, it went quickly this year, since Nevada has no state income taxes.

We shuffled off to REI today, treated myself to a new pair of shorts, a swim suit and a skort (all will come in handy on our vacation!) since I've dropped the 10 lbs, my old suit was felling a bit loose, and I thought it would be a nice reward for my recent hard work! Also, now that it's April, my "spending sabbatical" is over! But I don't want to go overboard on the spending either, so just a few things that I needed anyway. And Larry got a couple of pairs of sandals he needed too!

I kinda wanted to get out again today, took a nice walk/hike yesterday out back, but it's really windy and looks like something is headed this way, so I think I'll just do my yoga, and call it a rest day!

Kelly- Misplaced /typos...haha...I am the queen. seriously between my dyslexia and old eyes...I am the worst. Most folks have gotten used to me...hehe. No worries for sure.

Kelly- so, how is your training going?
Have you gotten into the swing...a routine?

Hard work...me? Pace myself. I know...same ol same ol issue. when I start going...I get excited and can over do.
Pace myself.
Also, I am focusing on water and supplements/nutrition as I head outside more, temps heat up and labor increase.
Be good to me.
I have been very good about getting to bed on time. This is helping. I have had to shift another 30 minutes earlier...it was hard to do because it makes the evenings so short. But, I can feel the difference already.
Sleep first. water and nutrition next. Exercise. Play. Yup.

Kay, Kelpie, Kits, Kelly...hehe...anyone else notice? Snow how you doing? You feeling recovery at all?

How are you all doing?

emoticon Good day ladies!

Managed to get out for my bike ride last night. The wind was a bit crisp, but the evening sun was nice. It does feel a bit like when you were 8 years old riding around the neighborhoods and adventuring.

Today is a light spin on the indoor bike to keep things moving and then the real hard work of putting the epoxy on the kitchen counter tops. I am so nervous! Hope it turns out.

Kay - taxes are hard work indeed. I have some kind of weird stress-block with these issues that prevent me from being able to do them so thankfully I have Morgan. He takes care of them and I sit and stress that the government will pull some kind of weird accusation that we owe millions of dollars. Then it comes in and all is fine. Every year...lol

Mauima - I wonder what's going on with your knee? That's frustrating and curious. Sure doesn't sound like it is stopping you, determined and strong as you are, but I truly wish for you that it would be "normal" for you!

Do you have a time line on the nerve pain, I can't remember? I seem to think it is one of those uncertain things right?

Snow - I am so glad you are taking a day off. I was reading your activity and thinking: this woman is a beast! (as in extremely fit) - phew, you're making me look bad over here. Enjoy your pretty nails. I am sitting here chewing my cuticles and thinking I need to do some pretty-fying myself!

Hi Kelpie! Looking forward to your blog.

I do have to say, since it's us ladies here, I LOVE my new Victory Secrets sports bra. Things stay where they should and they look pretty darn nice at the same time if you don't mind me saying. These bras are pricey but when I can, I will definitely be investing in another.

Cheers,

Kelly

Morning!

Hard work...yes...
Snow- glad you are taking a day to pamper and relax. 3 R's,rejuvenating regroup relax....Sounds like a good plan.

Kay- Taxes and oil change...ya...gonna feel good to get those off the list.
Oh yes...sometime when two meals in a day are unplanned...makes it hard. You are so good at goal setting and planning, I am sure you'll be back today in focus. Track away you go! This is how you inspire and lead. :) Thank you!

Kelly- It sound like you are really picking up and feeling the joy/enthusiasm for exercise. (not that you ever lost is really...just so busy) Love hearing the joy has returned. Good for you for recognizing this crucial part...You sound so good :) Spring is such an exciting time to re-boot the plan.

I know what you mean about assessing and identifying where we are at and seeing the loss of fitness. Its so weird...after back and knee surgery I lost very little or none. Didn't hold me back hardly at all since I was walking after back and riding after knee. But I took a big deficit hit with the cancer surgery. I am picking up a lot with 'stuff' around the house and yard. So I know I am doing more. But I really feel it...get tired and have to get to bed on time. Guess that's OK.
My bottom is easier to ignore. Still have major nerve pain, but as I get busier, I think about it less.
When I walk, my surgical knee is just not the same. Not sure what the real story is...might just be a loss of strength and stretch. I am working on both...slowly.
Thank you for checking in. :)

Kelpie- How you doing getting at that list? Procrastination can be a powerful foe. What tools do you use to break the cycle?
Remembering what works...at times I have to remind myself what works. For me its lists and not worrying about what order...just do something on my list and get going. But everyone is different. Hope today its feeling successful and productive. Hugs.

Hard work returneth this week...yesterday I hiked for 4 hours and then pulled weeds for a couple of hours then went to a fun steps class in the evening. When I get home we have dinner and then we also love to watch the Voice and other such Tivo'd shows- usually singing competitions or talent- so Wood.... I totally "get" you!
Yesterday i went to steps class, ran over to the dance studio to do Zumba.... and shortly after met a friend on the trail and hiked for 3 hours.... got a little sunburned even tho it was faintly overcast and on the cool side... then I weeded and moved all my heavy ceramic pots with my yet unseen daliahs emoticon in them so that the tree trimmer guys can get their equiptment in my yard on Sat. A mulberry we have had for 30 years is ready to come down, alas it has a fungal issue and is going to fall on its own if we dont take care of this now! Not a pretty site if it tips over into the pool!! Neighbors all around us are also going to be using our friend the tree guy- so all the annoyances of aging sickly pines and overgrown oaks will be taken care of all around us....smart business guy asking if others need his services, also really smart under pricing all their previous estimates which keeps them from doing what they have needed to do! Yay, Im super happy about that.
Today, early nail appointment outing with a hiking partner, across the Bay to a really great manicurist, I wouldnt go that far, but she offered to drive......so a relaxing morning- no exercise today!! I need a break, I think I have done a weeks worth in my 2 days off, so Ill just do hair later and call it a day! ***SNOW*** emoticon

Great workout enthusiasm, Kelly! Love the sound of what you're doing, so is the "gravel grinder" on a gravel road? Do you use a mountain bike or a road bike for that?

No more leg workouts for me of late, the past couple of weeks I've been just hopping on the elliptical before my circuit training class. Although Monday I hit the Aerodyne bike first, then the elliptical then my class, and it was fun! Only problem is the Aerodyne doesn't have a drink holder.....

A bit too much indulgence last night, our neighbors invited us over for dinner, which was actually a birthday party for one of their friends. It was a nice dinner, but I drank a bit too much, and ate a bit too much cake! And that was after going out to lunch with the boss and the other Supervisor....can you say giant quesadilla? Oh, my scale was up 3 pounds this morning, 2 over my goal! So back to tracking today, I'll still try to hit close to maintenance, since I'm pretty sure it's more sodium than extra fat that sent the scale up.

My really hard work for this week? Need to schedule and get my car in for an oil change and get my taxes done! emoticon

Good morning ladies - I have been MIA! So sorry!

Crazy thing....I suspected that school was taking a lot of my time and energy, but had no real idea until it stopped and my motivation for other things returned in full force! Funny how that works. emoticon

Hard work today: gym at 6:30 a.m. for elliptical warm up and some weights. I unearthed a cycling specific weight routine that I want to focus on for the next 12 weeks. I have also printed out and committed to a 10 week training plan for a century ride that we have signed up for - that gravel grinder one in June.

This past weekend was a good test to see where my base fitness for riding is. As always, the legs are stronger than my tyrranosaurus arms. So working on strengthening that core and upper body.

The joy has returned to working out. I am not doing it right now just because it is the right thing or I want to lose weight - I actually really had fun this morning and am looking forward to going again. What a change! And all because I am not stretched too thin. Sigh, one day I will learn this lesson.

Kay - how is that crazy leg work out going?

Mauima - you are making such incredible gains, how is it feeling?

Kelpie, catch me up, how are things?

Snow - how goes the hikes?

Cheers,

Kelly

Sounds like a wonderful way to spend Easter to me, enjoy your day and time with your hubby Snow! emoticon emoticon emoticon

We had Easter dinner last night, a Larry extravaganza, chicken, rice and roasted asparagus (actually, I made the rice (wild and brown rice with roasted shallots) and asparagus, Larry grilled the chicken. We had angel food cake with strawberries, ice cream and whipped cream for dessert. It was all devoured! And yummy!

Had waffles with more berries for breakfast, then our guests wanted to walk around downtown Reno, so we went to Circus Circus, walked to the river, had lunch, and came back. They are on their way home, and I have some down time while Larry naps.

It was a really nice visit, we got a walk in yesterday after they got in, and lots of conversation...it was so nourishing!

Say what? Stale bread? Oh....stale thread!! Well I think it is probably that all the "hard work" is going on on the LMS thread and we are all so focussed really that it has taken over the job. but I am checking in here to fortify its existance in my mind, to report that I will use hard work to try to achieve my wieght mantenance if nothing else!! We are walking into town today if the rain holds off, and having our Easter whereever DH and I end up. A rather different non-family Easter day...but we are putting activity high on the list, and enjoying eachother in the peaceful weekend we are creating for ourselves. I feel kind of guilty for not doing the usual fanfare, but the most important thing to me is my relationship with my guy, so its not hard work today, rather true love and nurturing ourselves, getting back on track after a hard month of giving ourselves to others. ***SNOW*** emoticon

Thinking about getting out for a walk in a bit. I'm still waiting for my sister and her family to show up (they stopped to go tubing on the way up, so I imagine they are having so much fun they forgot about the time!).

Nice to see you back, Kelpie, looking forward to your blog!

Got in my lower body workout before my small group class yesterday. Both good work! I'm planning on running in to work today (as well as I can with a big fanny pack on!) since it's been so nice out! We're hitting 70's all week.... emoticon

I'll have to see if I notice a pattern with the alcohol and the sleeping, and thanks for the vitamin B-12 tip, I'll look into that too.

Glad your knee is feeling better! You are so good about taking care of yourself, and it is hard work!

Kay- Yes...you are probably right about Peri-M. And as hormones shift I think the body works hard to try and adjust...I did a lot of staying up later, wine, now wine, more and more exercise...and 3 AM...up I'd be.
So, I made sure of my evening routine and get my 9-3, then read my kindle. Often, withing 30 minutes I'd be back asleep and get another 1.5. (I stayed in bed with my kindle light. I could 'hide' it under my covers on my side and hubby never even noticed.
Yes...quite a time. Even when Snow and I would hike 3 days, 20+ milers...haha...thought I'd have tuckered myself out enough...I'd still awaken.
Alcohol has a huge effect as well...a rebound after it has metabolized out. So as your body tries to re-balance, its short on B12 (Alcohol uses it up), and sugar boost /excess then the rebound also around 3 AM if you are consuming in teh evening.
So, I try to limit alcohol and enjoy in afternoon so it can be metabolized before bed.
Exhaustion causes me worse sleep I think...due to depleting nutrients. I am not sure...trying to keep up good nutrition/supplements.
Anyhow...I sleep well now. haha...routine, limit alcohol, B12 if consuming, moderate exercise, and mindful if I have worked extra hard.

My knee is better. whew. so, acting fast to treat is helping. I need to stretch my hamstring. Period. Thats my hard work today. The NSAID creme and ice and catching it fast, has paid off. Now I will walk today (In the rain prob) and try to get hammy warmed up enough to really stretch. Thanks for asking. :)

Kay- Sleep...well...I remember back a bit you mentioning 'lady stuff'... this may be another symptom. About your age the 3 Am wake up call started...seems better now...going to bed later never seemed to help, So good to hear you are getting to bed early. Sorry...

My hard work, is to nurse my knee. Honest...ridiculous as it sounds...I hurt yesterday at the doc. Derm Surgeon had this narrow table and did the full body check...well, I had to roll over with no space...to the right...torqued my bad knee. Took me awhile to figure out what in the heck I did...so I am 'hitting it hard with NSAID creme and ice. I am fairly certain it will be fine. Good thing its a rainy day...

Reminded me of my mom, how, she would get 'injured going to the doc...
I will be fine..just nursing myself today...AGAIN!

Seems here the past few days that my hard work is becoming getting enough rest! I'm just not sleeping well, night sweats, and waking up around 3:30-4:00am...then not being able to get back to sleep. I'm trying to get to bed before 9, just so it's not so bad getting up that early...

That's funny you mention education, Maui, I got an invite recently to become a trainer for my area of expertise in Nevada, I was going to look it over, will have to do that sooner rather than later, maybe that's the path I need to follow! I've been giving a lot of thought lately to giving back, and becoming a trainer in this area would fit that goal.

How great that you are able to get out and work for such long hours without ill effect on your nether regions...Master gardener, you already hold that title on deck! But sure, go for it!

Kelly- Oh gosh...hope you are feeling a bit recovered. I do know when I eat on teh run, (different foods/unknown additives), I feel yucky too. Simple food , real food seems to work best for me.
And female plumbing...like you have said before..."Why the heck was this the best design possible"? You have to be kidding...I know in my 30's and 40's I had more irregularity...who knows.
And today, was even longer outside...haha...I am definitely doing more work and so far, bottom is not complaining! Great news eh?

I am very glad you did not eat your sweater...hehe...what am image.

Kay- Yesterday was just gorgeous, worked out all day, had some nice wine, watched a movie and bed. Great day. :)
Goal weigh, retirement plan covered...gosh...huge goals met for sure.
Next...well, education always comes to my mind, when I have the time. What did you always want to learn about and have not yet? A research project?

Me, I am of course working on my body still and forever, which is normal and expected. But I am thinking about the Master Gardener program.I was going to start last Sept...and couldn't...but maybe next course start cycle...so much to learn. I like becoming more and more resourceful with food production.

Hmmm, so we're on the same cycle, K-Po? I've heard of that happening with college roommates, but online friends? That's just weird! emoticon

Hope you flush those toxins out with a bit of skiing! We do go some long distances...but we work up to it gradually too, I was pleased to have no ill effects from the ski yesterday! I even did my ballet-tone this morning and was just fine!

And Maui, we have such a nice day up here, I bet you are enjoying similar (or even better!) weather. Sun is out, everyone is in shorts....not me, but I've seen more leg than I have in quite a while!

Now that my retirement finances are covered, and I've pretty much hit my goal weight, I'm not sure what my new hard work will be...?!? Thoughts? I do see the doctor on Monday, so I hope she doesn't give me any ideas!

Oops! I realized I read and didn't post!

Mauima - ahhh, I get it now...darn, stretching, stretching -that's alot going on! Good luck keeping those muscles long.

No kidding you are pooped - that's a productive day, and 6 hours outside - good for you, I am jealous!

Kay - I can't believe the distances you guys do on your skis! And ugh, the calorie burn must be fantastic! You probably really needed that fortifying Mexican dinner. For some reason I have been on a Mexican food kick lately - this is a new craving for sure, it was Indian food for the longest time.

Weird, I am having shorter cycle issues to! Down from 28 to 21, 20 after a fears years of things going like clock work. Female plumbing is so complicated.

Snow - did you get your results??

Been trying to get out skiing all week, but everything has just been taking longer than planned during our evening activities. We were at the dealership until 7:30 last night, I was so hungry by the time we got home, I thought about eating my sweater. Tonight we have nothing planned and the weather is beautiful - looking forward to getting out there!

I've been very sore this week even though my lady week is now over, I'm wondering if it's from eating on the run this week, which meant some things I was allergic to. If so, exercise will help flush it out. I'll find out when I wake up in the morning.

Cheers,

Kelly

Kay-

Glad you had a nice day. I have only XCountry skied in MN. And the issue there was snowmobiles as well. Oh well, folks outside playing. Glad you enjoyed every bit! You have to go back to work tomorrow?
Its supposed to be mid 70's here tomorrow...OMGosh.
And I worked almost 6 hours outside, did all the laundry, ironed 5 work shirts for hubby, made supper, ad sitting down currently waiting for him to get home. I am pooped!
Maybe my most hard work day in 10 weeks.
Mexican...yum.
Us. Sicilian pasta with pesto green beans (Pesto, beans, sauce all from last seasons' garden) gotta get that stuff gone... haha...more on its way soon.

It was a nice day, even if the grooming wasn't all that great, they had groomed the other day, but those roads are frequented by snowmobilers, so they get beat up. We went out to Mexican tonight, and I enjoyed every bit of it! Logged it too, I'm probably pretty close to my calorie burn for today, at least that's what it looks like as far as I could guess!

Good news Maui! Great that you now have that clarity for what to focus on, with all those differing plans. Walking, and stretching, and listening to your body!

Snow, great job on the hard work! Getting all those tests out of the way must feel really good, especially with the great results coming in! I go to the doc on Monday to get my last lab results. I plan on getting a copy of those for myself as well.

Kelly, keep up the hard work! studying takes a lot of patience...but so worth it in the end.

I have done my glute workout twice this week now, and so far so good! I did take it easy on Monday, and today, and decided to skip my small group class tonight because we were going to do legs, and I had just done legs...and since we're skiing tomorrow, I really didn't want to blow out my legs! Also decided to skip the deficit. Not sure why, but my "ladies days" have been getting closer together, maybe a sign of coming menopause? I only had 21 days this time, not the 28 days I was expecting....so decided to take a break on the deficit, especially since I'm cranky...no cranky skiing for me!

Snow- OMGosh....So so happy for you! My heart is bursting. Well done!

Kelly- hmmmm...I don't think its muscle growth. I am pretty sure of the sequence...
Immobility from bottom surgery, (after 40 years of back contraction to support fracture), causes hip flexors, hamstrings and quads to shorten cause that's their pattern. Shorter muscle groups pull on the weakest link in the system...knee ligaments/tendons. This forces the patella and knee ligaments to pull off track, causing inflammation, pain and damage. Goal is to lengthen muscles to stretch while warm.
Hard work comes...from my brain and large leg muscles being too aggressive for what the already compromised knee with partial medial meniscus remaining.
So..I have to go slower...and stretch more...hard to hold back darn it.

But...it was a good day
Kay-
Just back from Spine surgeon. 1 year post Op xrays...
and my bones, disks, and fusion all look perfect. And when discussion how to proceed, docs /PA answer was clear.
(Confusion is...Spine doc says walk and core, knee doc says don't walk, ride bike, Cancer doc says, no bike, limited walking...haha.)
Spine doc/PA today says...Cancer doc wins. Said my back looks fabulous...and I gave it 10 months of hard work. Right now, take care of my bottom...period.
This clarity is nice. Walk a little...often. :) So, Good to know I am doing well.

Hubby went with me too, and gave the doc the biggest laugh I have ever heard from him..hehe. Good day.
So...I need to trust myself too is a big lesson. (Also hard work for me)
Anyhow, I am trying to listen.

Big ears!

Hard work...you know what that means to me this year?!! So, last week I had the chest CT scan, today I have both a bone desity test AND my first mammogram! Yay! I cant believe I can check off having had my full physical, breathing tests, heart ultrasound, heart moitoring...and so far everything is checking out to be perfect! Next to schedule will the the colonoscopy...then I think that about covers it...need to drop by my DR to get the lab results from my physical...guess no news might be good news, but Maui taught me to get my own copies of everything. Thanks for the gentle nudging ladies, it took a bit, but I did it! Then I can get a new goal....and I think it will have to do with core strengthening and getting it all pulled in a bit tighter if you know what I mean, I like that glute workout you posted Kay a ways back.....I havent read this topic for awhile and had to get caught up...better run now, have to get to those tests in an hour........***SNOW*** emoticon

Good morning ladies,

Kay, I am glad you took it easy, I was a bit worried about the work out on your hip, but I should know you are a smart and experienced lady!

Mauima, yup, sounds like the good 'ole muscles are growing faster than the knee can keep up with - but you too are a smart and experience lady.

What good company I keep!

March is iffy for us too. I have had both howling winds and drifiting snow and no snow and plus temperatures on my Birthday. We can get both shorts weather and blizzards until May. nothing goes in the ground here until end of May.

No hard work being done here unless you include keeping up with my schedule! Last night was the concert, tonight is school and tomorrow night is hopefully the dealership to pick up the car. I hope to at least squeeze in time on the bike today whatever it looks like. Dragon boat and bike events are bearing down begining in June!

I am still thinking deep thoughts and trying to get myself "right minded" for food, fitness, etc.

I don't think I have had any big revelations yet Mauima, but I will definitely share if/when I do. I need at least a 10 minute shower or an quiet evening to get the thoughts fully digested!

Cheers,

Kelly

Kay- Yup...being careful...good plan. When your body tells you, its usually a good idea to listen. So good you got out to ski, but icy is scary. Don't like it. Seems to afternoon icy patches is when our kids would get hurt. Yes I think March is usually when we can gets lots of snow. I remember having super warm weekends in the garden with hubby followed by huge storms. Its always a challenge to get everything in before its 'all of a sudden', super hot and forever dry.

I think I still have to skip the work out again. My surgical knee is still an issue. Bleh. Way less pain, but over night is gets iffy. I did all my stretches before bed last night, and that seemed to help the pain. So, I will try that again tonight. I am fairly sure, this is simple mechanics. Once my muscles are participating equally, knee will be much better. I remember through the day yesterday, that I tried 'step ups' Friday too. I am thinking, thats what did it.
Its good. Step by step...

So, my hip is OK, but not 100%, so I'm being careful. I did the lower body workout again today, and got through it pretty much unscathed, although I did skip one of the moves since the hip was feeling it (in a bad way). We'll see how I feel tomorrow!

We skied yesterday, I am so enjoying the skiing this year! And the snow is OK, it was blown over in spots, and a bit icy in areas, but I think it will last a bit, and March around here is typically stormy, so I hope that trend happens this year as well.

Afternoon ladies,

Kay-one more day, how's the strain? Sometimes on day 3, I know more of the truth...so, I was wondering. Like Kelly says about the tightening...

Kelly- this is so true. I think that's how my knee got tweaked. I was working in teh yard on Friday and Saturday, and during the night, my hamstring tightened in my sleep...sheesh. But I am working it out...

Kelly- I am like you...when wearing my pedometer, I try to get teh most out of it...I totally take more steps when monitoring my steps. Same is true with food logging. If I 'have' to write it down, I eat less.

Kelly I am very curious what you uncover regarding the roadblock and sabotage. I know, when I am stressed I need to chew...lol.
And more skiing and the dealership...sounds like a full full day.

Kay- looks like we are going to get warmer every day this week. What happening with the snow up there??? Much left?

My hard work...as usual, pace myself. So far, today, knee continues to feel much better. Still clicking, but inflammation way down. Moving in the right direction.

Kelpie- how'd you do over the weekend?

Good morning ladies,

Glad to hear your strain doesn't seem sever Kay. My instinct is maybe to just keep it moving/do some light work today if you plan to ski tomorrow. I worry that if you take the day fully off, it will tighten and be at more risk of strain tomorrow. Do you spin? Can you just do some fast/light RPMs today?

Mauima, I giggled at sleeping on the pedometer. Morgan has been making fun of me carrying mine around and I have done all but sleep on it. We ended up having to go up and down the stairs a couple of times at IKEA Friday night and he was teasing me that I was doing it for the extra steps - he was not super far from the truth emoticon

I am so glad you got to do that work out - sounds like you approached it just right. I passed for skiing :)

We ski'd Sat and Sun and it was just amazing. I missed doing it with Morgan alot and I miss being in the outdoors with the birds etc. with no one else around. It is very quiet where we go skiing and you feel like you are in the middle of the bush instead of 20 mins from the city.

Food - ugh. So I had a fantastic talk with a long time friend on Saturday who wised me up to some unhealthy mental behaviour I have been doing which I think is influencing my ability or rather inability to commit to my food plan whole heartedly. She didn't realise it's connection to food when she mentioned it, but man, what a smart and loving friend. I am so lucky. So I am doing some reading to help get to the root of my self sabotage. Hopefully I can overcome my 8 lbs down roadblock and make it 9! ( repeatedly lose to a certain weight then panic, and start eating - weirdo)

I hope tonight will be another ski after we go to the dealership, though it will be a slow one - I am sore!

Cheers,

Kelly

My strain feel better today, I actually hardly noticed it by late yesterday, so probably not too bad, just tweaked a bit. Thanks for asking, Maui!

I'm happy you took it easy with the workout, I think getting familiar with the moves is a great idea, wish I had been so sensible! But I'm trying to decide if I should do something today, or just wait to ski tomorrow. I did get to the grocery store, stocked up on lots of fresh fruits and veggies, and some white beans for a chicken chili I'm planning on making tomorrow (in the crockpot, should make some nice lunches to come!) I may decide just to do my yoga and leave it at that.

My weight has normalized back to near my goal weight, I put the new weight on my ticker today, but it ended up being the same today as last time, so no change! But that sounds good to me, since it's actually where I aim to be.

Anyway, just really enjoying the day, it started out cold, and snow flurries, and now I'm basking in the sun!

Kay- Oh no...groin strain...how is it this morning????
Ouch.
Financial planning...good for you. Yes, I feel much better when I know I am looking ahead in sensible ways. I try to not stress myself out with all the unknowns, rather make decisions as best I can and make a definite plan for when to revisit the finances and legalities likes will/trust etc. Then...I can relax for a spell, knowing for now, I have done my (our) best.
Massage as usual sounds delicious.
I went through the workout after walking and before stretching, and used baby weights or non, like you said to move through the movements and remind my lower body what these are all about. Thanks for the encouragement and structure.

Kelly- rewards motivating for me too. Good habit. I love my weights, I have several ...sometimes I wish for an exercise room...oh well...

Kelpie- So happy your fitbit is helping. Its the little things eh? Since I started wearing my pedometer I have only slept with it on twice...hehe.

My hard work today...focused stretching. My right knee got 'hung up' over night and was sore and clicking, kept me awake. Great eh? But when I stood up, tendons or ligaments all clicked back in place. Not sure if the exercises or baby holding/rocking may have done something. But it go my attention...so...today, ice, walk , stretch, ice...Oh well. It'll get better. It'd be silly for me to expect a clear sailing path back to exercise...of course there will be bumps in the road.
(said without whining) honest.

Well, I missed the sauna, but it was because my financial planning went long, but in a good way, I feel more prepared for the future now, and that brings a lot of peace and comfort! But I did make it in time for my massage, which is what I really needed.

Glad you like the look of the workout, Kelly, and Maui, my recommendation would be to do the minimum reps for the first time and lighter weights too, just to get used to the movements. I think it's a good one, like you said, functional movements, and I sure felt the effects, and that was not even getting to the last 2 moves! I will try again, but will work up to the entire session (maybe fewer sets/reps, I'm not sure).

I actually strained my groin this morning doing yoga...not sure how that happened, maybe I was just still a bit too worn out. It was a practice I've done many times, and not a strenuous movement. So I'm debating what to do this weekend, probably will rest again tomorrow, maybe ski on Sunday if it feels OK by then.

So, Kelly, I like your rewards you've planned! Great idea. Now I'm going to have to be more creative, since I've been spending a lot lately, and with my financial planning I'm thinking more about money....and decided after another mini spending spree at REI tonight, I decided I'm going to try to not spend on personal "stuff" for the next month (starting now, through March) so that will be my new "hard work!" I will still buy groceries and fuel the car, but no clothes, goodies, etc from now through March. I just want to use what I have, pare down, and see how it goes.

Kelpie, glad the fitbit is doing it's thing, and sticking with you! I sure love mine!
