I started and gave up MANY times before, but I have been going strong for a year now. I had picked up a Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds DVD a while back, and it sat and sat. Then last January when I decided to really go for it, I tried it. It was only a 15 min 1 mile workout...but I did it and liked it. I remember thinking then "i hope someday I can do the 2 or 3 mile workouts!" and by March I was at the 4 mile one.
I loved that I could do it at home, it was easy but effective, and I was loosing weight, had more energy, slept better etc... Since then I have found more things that I like and I keep going.
Good luck to you!

Over half way there!!

My mom bought the entire Walk Away the Pounds series a few years ago. I cant do them. Something about her bothers me.. although, I did do them enough to have he voice instilled in my mind, even 5 years later.

So far Ive done 2 days of Biggest Loser Cardio Max, and Jillians 30 Day Shred. I also bought another Turbo Jam, and a different Jillian one. I think its good for me to workout at home, I just have to find the time when I can either kick the hubby out of the bedroom for 30 minutes, or that noone else is home!

Im loving all of the advice though. If I can get through this next month Im sure I can stick with it. I just need all the support to get through now! lol

Hi I also am doing the walking tape I'm DOING THE ONE, I have foot and leg problems and that I can do I ignore some pain figuring I will hurt any way just don't push. it is more important to do something than it is to work yourself to pain, then you won't want to do it

I also am a Leslie Sansone fan - I started with a couple of her 1 mile and 2 mile workouts about 3 years ago, and now my favorites are the 3 mile workouts. Just find something you like, and start out slow - maybe 10-15 minutes and then work up from there. If you think you might enjoy low-impact inhome walking you can check out Leslie's site and view some of her workouts. They are easy to do, don't require a lot of space, are affordable and come in a wide range of selections. Here is also a link to here AHA 1, 2 & 3 mile workouts that you can download and try on your computer.

I think the best thing is to get up really early - before work or before anyone else gets up - and then plan to do just 1 of the 10 minute Sparkpeople workouts with Coach Nicole that are free on this site an YouTube. Usually you will want to do more than the 10 min but to start and stick with it, who can say no to getting up 10 min early? Then it's out of the way and no excuses for the rest of the day. Good luck.

I started the first of last year. I started with Leslie Sansone's in home walking. It was easy to stick with and I started with one mile, worked up to two miles, three, four, and five.

The first thing is decide what you want. Do you want to lose weight, exercise, better health, look better in your clothes??? You need a plan to get where you want to go. SparkPeople provides all of that with food tracking, exercise planning, etc.

I just started out slowly with things I was interested in - yoga, pilates, etc. Once I found that wasn't much of a challenge anymore, to keep from getting bored, I invested in additional DVDs or stuff to help me workout. Now I am always willing to try something new and different to help me keep in shape. Just try not to get bored and it will keep you engaged for more than a few months. Try starting doing something you enjoy that won't make you feel like exercise is a chore.

I remembered that I really loved to dance.

After that I invested in workout DVDs that were dance related, dance instruction DVDs, took dance classes, and started doing more social dancing.

Once I remembered what I used to loved to do and started doing it again, motivation was easy to come by. I simply started having fun.

I'm lucky to live in a part of town where I can walk to almost everything I want or need to do - the store, libary, coffee shops, and work. Work is three miles each way, but it's become such a habit that I get really restless if we have a string of bad weather and I can't walk. As far as what I do at home, I need variety, I get bored. I regularly check out different dvds from the library to keep it interesting. I'll buy one if I really like it. So I guess the key for me is habit and variety.

I try to find motivation in everything - co-workers who have lost weight, Bigger Loser show, Sparkfriends and their motivational stories.

Something else I did in January 2009 was to take advantage of all of the free gym trials. Great way to jumpstart your program and workout for free.

I have never dieted persay but I started watching what I at but what did it for me was when I quit eating meat and chicken, I still eat seafood eggs and cheese but don't drink any milk, that will eliminate much fat and cholesterol, but it takes commitment, you must also exercise on a regular basis.

I have tried and failed numerous times in the last 10 years. So, to anyone who has stuck with it for more than a month or two, how did you get started?
What did you do? How did you stick with it?
