My 10K is planned for the evening of September 9...a moonlight run. Also training for a 12K in San Francisco on October 2.

I haven't run in years, but it feels good to be starting again.

I'm technically starting week 4 of the Galloway 10K plan...but with the lousy weather last week, I didn't run at all! Or cross train! I have a 5K in 7 weeks. This will be my 7th 5K. My 10K is planned for early September.

Thanks! I had a great time at the 5k! I've been in a bit of a slump the last week since I got the flu shot. I have only ran twice...in the last ten days..when I usually hop on the treadmill at least every other day and take Sat or Sun off. Today 2 miles felt like torture...and I'm supposed to be running in a 10 in just two weeks! Help!!

Seabreeze...I'll check that out...

Thank you for the suggestions! I have ordered 2 of his books...I hopefully will have them any day now! I don't know why I don't want to just walk but I'm guessing once my miles increase...walking will be welcomed! I have been doing strength training and a lot of pilates on XT days. Today I took a day off entirely...feels good! I am running in a 5k this Saturday. I plan to run 3.1 tomorrow Tues, XT Wed, run 2 miles Thurs, Rest day on Fri and Sat am is the run! Any other tips pls feel free....I am really trying to learn as much as I can to improve my distance and endurance. Something new to me as well that has helped tons with my tuckering out is extra nutrition! Amazing what food does to fuel my body!

Walking is always good and restful Xtraining for running. Biking is good because it uses the musccles on the front of the leg. Lots of people like spinning classes. I've heard roller blading is good and ski machines. Use caution with activities that use lots of calf muscles. You might be able to run on days listed as Xtraining days. In one of Jeff Galloways books he talked about how often you can run. He suggests fewer weekly runs as you get older. I was at every other day at 48 You just need to monitor how your doing and make sure you get adequete rest for recovery.

Yesterday I ran 3.1...so much for XT day however I felt great and it really boosted my day. Today though I'm promising to walk only. I tend to want to start running on the treadmill. Maybe a bike ride or walk my st bernards outside..coz they're certainly not going to run far!

I've been trying to decide what to do on XT days. I only have a treadmill and weights. I was wondering what others are doing? I was thinking of yoga/pilates and/or Jillian Michaels shred....

Hi everyone...I started training for my first 10k this morning. Ran 30 mins, Day 1. I've ran in two 5k's and love them. I have another one coming up in 10 days. I'm not a marathoner...not sure I'm athletic enough to achieve 26.2 miles...but I do dream about it. I've always loved to run and am striving to increase my distance and endurance. So small peanut that I am in comparison...I've joined training for my next goal... which I'm pretty proud of. Have a great day and a good next run. :)

Yay Asharon! Good for you on the 10k! Don't worry about your time--the most important thing is that you are out there doing it.

Great job!

I did it! I finished the 10K last Saturday. It was not a pretty time but I finished.
I have no desire to do a HM so I guess I will start working on getting my time up and running more - walking less.

I have not been posting, but I am still training. Did my longest run ever last Sunday - 6.78 miles in 1 hour 46 min......slow slow slow.
But I now know that on Saturday, Oct 16 I will be able to complete the 10K!!! I am both excited and nervous.

Long run today was great! Did 4 miles - did 2 miles with my dog Grace and then dropped her off at the house and did the other 2 miles alone. This is my longest run todate. I did 5 min warmup and then did 3 min run 1 min walk intervals and did 4 min cooldown. Feel very good and it was a beautiful morning. I am still slow but that is ok. Did 4 miles in just under 1 hour. But I did it!

I've just started the Spark Your Way to a 10K, but don't have a race in mind at the moment. I think I'm going to do my first 5K next month. I would like to find a 10K so that I'll be more motivated to do well in the training that I'm following.

The longest race I ever ran was the strange distance of 8.25 miles, the Great Aloha run in Hawaii. My uncle and I flew there in the dead of the Ohio winter to run it for charity.

Since I hadn't been running much in the winter, I was really out of my league once there in that tropical heat, and along with the fact that I hadn't run over 5k all winter, I was really in for a treat!

I did finish alive, but my time wasn't so hot. :(

I have a 10 mile race in now 23 days. I've taken almost a full week off (vacation) went for a run once while on vacation...it was a lousy run, but atleast it was something. Got up this morning and did 5 miles. Tomorrow hoping for another atleast 4 but really want another 5.

I need to do other exercises to get my muscles stronger, but not sure what else to do!!! Think I have a good milage base...my long runs are 9 miles....I have my first half in early October.

I've run a few 5k runs now and want to move up to the 10K. I'm training for one now, hopefully the ISO run here in Indianapolis on Aug. 1st, but I have a scheduling conflict that I hope to work out.
