wow, you're experiencing one of my worst fears! my knees are really sketchy. i already wear braces when i run, and i am very tentative with squats and lunges. if i blow those knees i'm afraid any hope of reaching my goals will go with them.
i've had friends who've had knee surgery and honestly it has given all them a new lease on life. so that's a big bright light at the end of the tunnel. maybe you can channel all of that frustration into killer ab and arm workouts, so after your surgery your upper body will be toned and strong and you can focus on legs.
good luck!

Wow - that's a tough blow I bet. Good luck with the surgery! I agree with the other post - continue to work on the area that you can. As for future cardio, water exercises are great for weak joints. When summer rolls around, you'll have a reason to hit the pool every day! emoticon

Hey!! I had surgery on my knee when I was younger. I remember it had something to do with a disk and cartilage and popping sounds. Luckily, I do not have to wear a brace, so maybe my issue was not as severe as yours? Or maybe you won't actually need to wear a brace after a while!! That sucks a ton. But you can get though this.

Keep your head high. Your knee will heal with a bit of rest. Don't give up though! Just because your knee isn't in proper working order doesn't mean you can't give your arms, back, shoulders, chest, and tummy a good workout! :) Do some strength exercises for the rest of your body to keep your motivation high.

Hi I kinda know how you feel. I too am frustrated but my issue is not as major as yours. Take it one day at a time deal with your knee and thank God that at the end of it all you will still have a knee. Don't give up on exercise because you wear a brace. You did not say that you cannot do anything strenuous you will just have to wear the brace when you do. Think about those who cannot even walk. Please look on this as another challenge to be worked out on your journey to better health.Chin up!!! emoticon

Week 2 has not been good - physically and schedule-wise I'm struggling with exercise - then today I got a blow I was not counting on...I knew my knee was hurting after a pre-Christmas slip and fall accident - but I was hoping it was just a bad strain!

I have to have surgery on my knee - tore the meniscus and damaged the cartilage! ARRGGGHH!! After that I'm looking at a permanent orthopedic brace for any exertion on the knee - which is part of my normal day.... I'm sooo depressed and frustrated.
