Vent away we all need to sometimes.

As far as other goals and rewards, what is gratifying to you besides clothing? For example I collect Monster High and American Girl Dolls and Accessories. I could choose something like a new Monster High Doll or a new American Girl outfit for my dolls for each 20 pounds I loose since that is about what they cost. Its a non-food reward that I enjoy.

Also focusing on something small like day to day process goals such as drinking all your water or eating fruits and/or vegetables with every meal or snack, that you can track every day.

You might also try weekly goals like trying a new fitness activity for 30 minutes 3 times a week, or trying a healthy new dinner recipe 3 times a week. For me these work because I love all styles of dance, so I am working on belly dancing right now, and I love to cook so trying new recipes is something that I enjoy. I have found tons of healthy ones on Spark People, Weight Watchers, Cooking Light, Clean Eating and Eating Well, both in the magazines and their websites for example.

Also you might try joining a support group. It might be Weight Watchers like I go to, or it might be some other weight loss support group in your community that meets say at the Y, or JCC or some other local health club or health organization. Being able to meet people face to face and talk to them, share Ideas, and have a trained leader to take questions to can be really helpful along with these forums.

Hope all of this helps.

Congratulations for starting to work towards those goals. I think they both sound good. The 10% weight goals are very do able. Goals for the process are excellent too. I have several of those myself such as tracking every day, drinking 8 ounces of water for every hour I am awake, etc. Those are great because I can see the results every day and that is gratifying. I hope it will be for you as well

Lauri, vent away. If I didn't come to SP and spill my guts sometimes, I don't know what I'd do. I don't have much support in my real life.

Enjoy those clothes!

That is something I need to do for myself now that the weight is not coming off easily like it was after my surgery. I am having to work to make the pounds come off now. I need to make it something other than clothes too since I have an extensive wardrobe and buying clothes is like buying fruit to me, it's a staple in my life. I know that it sounds snobbish and I don't mean it to be, but clothes are a passion of mine and it ranks up with food and shelter in my book. I need to find something that will be special, but not so special that it ranks up there with breathing. I will have to think on this for a few days. Sorry about my griping, I honestly didn't mean to start, I have been under a tremendous amount of stress this weekend after my mom fell and impaled herself on the bathroom door and had to have surgery. I have spent my weekend at the hospital or now she is home and I am taking care of her here now. I hope everything goes well now.

Hugs, Lauri

I am thinking of creating two sets of goals/rewards - one for process (sticking to plan, streaks, regardless of what the scale says) and a second one for milestones (every 10%). I have a lot to lose and need to find a way to handle staying on plan for a l o n g time. I'm good at starting but don't seem that good at sticking with it.

I like to set little goals. I find them easier to achieve and focus on.

My 1st weight goal is 10% of my starting weight
My little goals for April and May are:

1 mug(1.5) cups of water per hour I am awake
Workout DVDs (belly dance and yoga) 1 hour each morning before I shower and get dressed.

Eat fruit and/or vegetables with every meal or snack.

Take a half hour walk in my neighborhood per day.

They are all small and doable. Once I get consistent with the little goals, I will change them out for other goals to turn into healthy habits.

Anyone who wants to can set little goals on this forum and we can support each other as we get consistent with our new healthy habits.
