I declare to declutter. Since we moved in with my elderly mother 2 years ago, I still have boxes of stuff around, because I couldn't ask her to pack away her things. Now I figure that If I haven't used it all in 2 years I can donate it. I am so sorry that I ever frequented flea markets! I declare to lead a minimalist life - who needs 3 blenders? emoticon

I have a question for the team tomorrow:

Since the 4th of July is here, and we all know that it was when the Declaration of Independence was adopted in 1776 (for those history buffs) - what declarations will you be making for the 2nd half of 2011?

My family really doesn't have any traditions since my grandparents passed away. Makes me kind of sad when I think about it. I need to get on my family about making a new tradition.

One of my favorite tradition was before my grandfather passed - he loved the 4th of July and it was quite a production. He'd spend a ton of money on fireworks and we'd all go to their house early in the afternoon and have a picnic, play softball then settle in and watch the fireworks. The grand finale would be he would gather up all the shot off fireworks, put the trash in a big barrel and light it - it would light up the sky. He's been gone for 20 plus years and he stiill a huge part of me and I still miss him like it was yesterday.

By the way - I love these questions. Can never think of my own to ask but like seeing everyone's response and getting to know each other better.

My family does not have any traditions that we uphold any more. Many members have passed, and others are scattered around the country. So holidays are truely not my favorite time. But I have been changing that idea slowly.. Due to a very special little boy.

currenly the only tradition I have is with my girfriends family on Christmas Eve. Her little boy is very, very special too me - since I do not have children (he is 6 now), we go out for dinner as a group to Benihana. Now I know that, it does not sound very Christmas-y but, when my friend was pregnant with him, she had a craving for Benihana at Christmas just before he was born so we went there. Every year, even when he was still in a carrier, we would bring him, set him on the high chair in his carrier and have dinner - just as a special reminder of the days before he was born. When he was old enough to select the place to eat, his first choice was that resturant, he loves the chef's show and being the meat eater that he is - loves the meat cooked in front of him. It is our time to sit together and talk about what Santa will bring, what he is putting out for Santa and the reindeer... All those great things kids talk about during the holiday.

I usually go to their house on Christmas for dinner and to play with him and all his great goodies from Santa.

Even though I do not spend it with family, this is the most special thing I could or want to do during those few days. Her little boy makes all the difference in my life and how I see holidays.

Ours seem to revolve around food LOL. Traditional Polish foods at Easter and Christmas.
We don't have children, but my DH and I still watch the really old version of the Christmas Carol and The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.

On Halloween we used to go all out decorating our front porch and then dress in scary costumes to answer the door for trick or treaters. We moved two years ago and don't have any here.

The non food one (which still involves food) is watching the Rose Bowl parade and drinking Mimosas. emoticon

We also take a long ride every fall to see the colors on the trees and to go to a special cider mill (more food!).

We have a couple of traditions in our family....
#1 On Mother's Day we all go to DQ to have a blizzard...so yummy.

#2 We have our Christmas Dinner on Christmas eve. My kids go to their in-laws on Christmas day and Christmas Eve is the only night we have the girls...they leave to their other grandparents on Christmas afternoon.
I always stay at my youngest daughter's house Christmas Eve and we open one gift just before bedtime....we all get new PJ's to wear. So much fun.

#3 On Christmas morning the youngest person gets to open 1 gift and then it goes up the line to the oldest (me lol). It takes us forever to open presents. Sometimes the little ones get a little antsy, so they can go out of turn. We started this tradition when I was a young girl and it just keeps going on. I love it.

New question! Do you have any special or favourite traditions in your family?

I take the first day of school off every year and make homemade spaghetti sauce and a giant batch of chocolate chip cookies. When DS comes home we sit with cookies and milk and he tells me about his day (he's in grade 12 now! LOL)
Another one is at Christmas time - we let the kids open one present on Christmas eve, then make some munchies and settle in front of a cheesy Christmas movie - last year it was Elf.

whoops! kept forgetting to check here. emoticon

I'm a HUGE California (Anaheim) Angels fan! Have been since I was a little girl. I graduated from the Angel's stadium in '77 and had my first date with my (ex) husband. We even took our son to his 1st pro baseball game in '05 while on a trip to California. To be an Angels' fan is to understand what a Chicago Cubs fan endures...though they haven't been around for nearly as long. I know I watched them play in '64 the 1st time and they were a pretty new team at the time. They've only one the World Series once - '02 - and have a pretty pathetic record in the playoffs. But I love them!

I am sort of a fair weather fan. I watch the Red Wings when they are in the playoffs. I do watch some Tiger baseball games. I sometimes watch the University of Michigan football games because that is where I went to school. I haven't actually been to any kind of game in a couple years. I don't remember if it was the Detroit Tigers or the Detroit Pistons I last saw in person. My husband is always watching the golf channel.

I love sports! I even watch golf on tv once in awhile. I'm a Kansas City Chiefs fan, Kansas basketball fan (it's where I went to college LOL before I dropped out) and I'm even a Kansas City Royals fan, even though they are kind of pitiful but I still like going to the games.

Definitely New Year's, it's a chance for a new start, a fresh start! I get up that day, take a deep breath and feel like taking on the world. It brings an opportunity to start again. It's hard to describe, I just like the feeling.

I would have to say my favorite holiday is Christmas - not because of the gifts but because it is the one time when we have almost all the family together. My family isn't that large but for some reason it seems we can't get together that often. It may not be right on Christmas Day but we still find a time to get everyone together. And we do a laid back meal so that the day isn't spent cleaning up - we do foods where you can eat where you want and keep a couple of crock pots of soup going.

Mine is New Years Day - a chance for a new beginning. Besides I always make a brunch that is all done the day before and we watch the Rose Bowl parade with leftover hors d'ouvres from New years eve. The brunch is usually a fruit salad and egg bake and of course mimosas. Then there's the dog show and football.

Thanksgiving is my 2nd favorite.

Hmmm my favorites revolve around food...

What is your most FAVOURITE holiday of the year?

Mine is Easter....I became a Christian on Easter Sunday 1999. It has been my most favourite holiday ever since.
I know that Jesus was born on Christmas, but to think that someone would die for us, for our sins, just makes Easter all that more special to me. It is a time of new beginnings and a time to cherish what the Lord has done for us and is still doing for us, each and every day of our lives.

I mostly just play Sudoku on my iPhone when I need something to occupy my time. My SO is a huge World of Warcraft player and he's tried to get me to join him, but I'm in IT and honestly the last thing I want to do at the end of the day is sit in front of the computer screen.

I love board games: monoply, backgamon, and chess. I don't play to much now, but am waiting for my friends son to get a little older to play these games. I like playing any board game with him now (he's 6). As for cards love Euchre.

I don't play PC games as I don't like being beat by a computer. (part of my type A competitive personality) . I like the person to person interaction.

When it's just me I like to play chess versus the computer or anything that challenges my thought process. When I'm down with my family and it's "girls night" we play Scrabble - with the dictionary close by! Then when the whole family is together we play cards or go outside and have an ugly game of wiffle ball.

I've not played a lot of video games - I don't have a Wii (yet - it's on my rewards list and rumors are that the price of the Wii's will keep going down this year). But I love to play MarioKart with the nephews.

Have a great day!

I'm not a cereal fan but if I had to pick one it would be cream of wheat and I will eat oatmeal but usually only in the winter for both. If I had to eat a cold cereal it would be something with fruit and nuts in it. I make a really good low fat Muesli but it would be a C3. You don't eat it with milk though, just topped with yogurt and fresh fruit. I love it!

I am going to try oatmeal in C2 this time, just to see if I have any reactions from it.

Oh and I used to play with my Trix cereal when I was a kid, I didn't eat them. I don't think fruit loops were available waaaay back then. I think that's so cute about Cody and the dog. That dog has an iron stomach between the fruit loops and salsa!

LOL - See Fruit Loops always has a good memory attached to then. I think it has to do with the cheerful (yet unreal) colors - how can bright colored cerial make any kid but happy - even when the dog eats them.

I'm a shredded wheat fan. I could eat it anytime day or night. As a kid I liked Fruit Loops and it was a treat that we got to have it in the house. Only when it came in the 24 variety pack. Remember the small little boxes? My great childhood breakfast memory - trying to be the first to pick Fruit Loops.

Funny you should ask that question!

My favorite cereal of all time is Cap't Crunch! I even like it with crunch berries emoticon sadly they have stopped making it. It's also probably not 17DD plan-friendly so maybe that's a good thing.

This morning I made steal cut oats for the first time. I swear, I read the instructions 3 times...but of course in all my brilliance, I added 4 cups of oats to 1 cup of water instead of the other way around. Then, I divided the sticky mixture in half and added 4 cups of water and guessimated the oats. It's a tag soggy, but it's still good. Geez...

What type of Cereal do you like to eat in the morning.

I love my oatmeal, but I really want to try something else. Since I am on C3, I thought of getting some Kashi type of cereal to try.

When I was young and single, I worked for an Advertising company that had Cunard Cruise Lines as a client and we got a 2 week trip on the Queen Elizabeth II and it was amazing. My friend an co-worker got really sea sick, but not me...I hooked up with the Cruise Director and had the time of my life. It was wonderful.

2 years later I took another cruise on The Love Boat and my co-worker and I lost our luggage on that one. You just can't believe how nice people are. We got clothes loaned to us, and they even loaned us money until we got our luggage back. I didn't get mine back until after we got back home....2 weeks after to be exact. Apparently it was in the Hold of the Ship and travelled all over the place before they found it lol.

Those were the days!!!!!! Thank God I was single lol.

I live in Ohio, so yes, we have pretty nice winters. Where's my favorite vacation destination? Anywhere we can ride our motorcycles to as a family. We love to ride together and make it up as we go! I think travel has lost a little of it's appeal to me because I travel quite a bit for part of my job.

I don't think I have one because honestly I haven't really been too many places.
I am leaving for Disney World in a week though so maybe that will be my new favorite!!! So excited! emoticon

I love cruising. I've been on several. I even took a cruise in Alaska with work (I was a travel agent with AAA), and want to take another one with my DH. My dream vacation though is to go to Hawaii, since that's one of three states I haven't been to. I loved San Franscisco too, because that's where we took our honeymoon.

I like Disneyworld also and have been there 2x, but I was too big to really enjoy it. I couldn't go on any rides and I couldn't walk very far. That's actually one of my goals - to go back and get on some rides. Unfortunately now my DH can't, because of his back surgeries. I'll have to take grand -nephews!

Alright...let's make this an easy one today:

What's your favorite Vacation Destination and why? (this seems familiar...not sure why, I can't find it in this thread though)

Mine is Disneyland.
I grew up in Southern California and for the majority of my life I lived within 5 miles of the park. The first time I visited was December 1959 - I was about 1 month old. Every year until we moved to Anaheim, we would go at least twice. It was always an outing for family. Once I lived in Anaheim, I literally grew up in the park. Even after I moved to Alaska, my mom started to work at the park - so we still would have one trip a year to visit. Everytime I go to the park - even with all it's changes, I can still find snippets of my childhood. There are always spirits of my parents and family members no longer alive that seem to travel to the park with me. I am surrounded by more memories than almost imaginable. They say you can never go home again - and while that may be true for Anaheim, Disneyland is almost the same as it was in the early 60's. It's like a time capsule that has held on to a lot of what was always good and still been allowed to grow into something still magical.

Walt Disney was/is one of my heroes - and Disneyland (not Disney World in Florida) is and will always be one of my favorite places ever.

My favorite season is Fall emoticon I love everything about that season - the colors, the smell, the weather, the nights... It's really hard to put it all into words. Fall has always been a sort of rebirth for me (I know - normally that's Spring - my second favorite season) my birthday is in the Fall and I've always felt an organic connection to it.
