I have the cookbook and Wheatbelly does have some of the recipes on their web page but I also get their updates and sometimes they have recipes from their book in there too ...

I guess I would have to try to check out the cookbook again. I don't have the money to buy one. I like the Grain Brain Cookbook better. Just has more in it that I like.

The Wheat Belly 30 min cookbook has a similar recipe - did you check that out first, you have to be careful with almond meal - it has to be at room temp to work it in a dough of any kind, also the Wheat Belly 30 min cook book has a recipe for all purpose flour and you can use that for just about any recipe ...

Not sure if this would be the right place to ask, but the recipe of the day the other day was for Cranberry-Almond Oatmeal Cookies and I thought they might be good. Is it possible to substitute almond meal/flour to make those? Also would like to substitute something like Splenda- or Stevia-brown sugar mix for the brown sugar. I haven't really figured out how to make things wheat free and the gluten free baking mixes are something I can't have either since they are grain, starch and garbanzo bean flour that I've been told not to eat. I would like to have something like those cookies.

I have several grain free cook books, and the easiest is the 30 minute meal with WB - he has you prep things you will need later and store in fridge - one day I will be completly grain free, right now, I do have grains here and there... just me .. great going with your efforts, we do learn from our mistakes emoticon

Had no issues with the almond flour. It was like using wheat flour in every way.
I used Homemade beef broth, which was basically me cooking a cheap piece of beef for something else, then using the juice from that and adding filtered water. With garlic and onion bits included, it's very simple and easy to make. Then I just pack it and freeze it to use later. Hardest part is finding the right sized containers for it to go in the freezer, but that's my story.

It was a fairly easy meal to make. I know they put stuff in everything processed these days so you can bet if there's a label required, it's got something in it, I should not have on my grain-free lifestyle. I tested my BSLs last night and found that it was not out of line, so I didn't get any grain that sent it to the moon. This is good because it means that I don't have as severe an issue as most people who have to do gluten free or wheat.

I am finding that I am doing well on this lifestyle. I lost another pound this week. I cheated once, and really wished after that I had not, but I learned from it because I knew I would feel the way I felt afterwards. So I can use that as a launching platform for running like crazy away from the area where the food is that I refuse to eat again.

Not claiming to be anything but an imperfect human, but I do learn from my mistakes and that is key to success.

Thanks for your information, too. Appreciate it.

It looks pretty good but wheat gluten is in everything these days, so just check the ingredience on your pre packaged stuff, like the soya sauce or broth, one never knows.

Also you can take a head of cauliflower and rice it in a food processor and just add it, just google it or check pintrest .. I use riced cauliflower a lot now ... I will give this a go after I move. How did you find the almond flour in the recipe? I can not get flour, only meal ...

I took a SparkRecipe and redid it to be grain-free. Hope you like what I did, but if you think I'm getting a grain where I shouldn't, please let me know as I am no guru on the Wheat-Belly lifestyle yet.

Better Beef and Broccoli (Wheat Belly Version)

1 pound round steak, slice in thin strips*
1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 cup homemade beef broth**
2 tablespoons Almond Flour***
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
4 cups broccoli florets

My husband is not on the Wheat Belly lifestyle, but should be. He had to have rice and so he cooked 1 cup of it. I did not eat it and it is not included in the nutritional values.

Directions:
Cut the meat if you bought a thin sliced pound of Eye of Round or 1 pound round steak. Marinate it in soy sauce for about an hour if you wish and you don't feel soy sauce will cause you issues. Otherwise, just set it aside. Chop the onion.

Coat skillet with cooking spray and heat over medium heat for one minute. Add beef, onion, and minced garlic; stir fry until brown. Remove the beef to a plate and keep warm.

Add half the broth, and all the broccoli to the pan. Cover and simmer until broccoli is tender crisp. Mix flour, brown sugar, garlic powder, ginger, and salt with remaining broth until smooth, add to the pan. Cook until mixture begins to thicken, stirring constantly. Return beef to mixture, stir and serve.

We found this to be as good or better than the Beef and Broccoli we used to buy from the Chinese joint down the street.

*Consider marinating the meat in soysauce for about 1 hour prior to browning. It tenderizes and adds a bit of salt, I use Reduced Salt Soy Sauce.

**I use the jar of minced garlic.

***I use Chef Meg's beef broth recipe

Also, I would use all the broccoli next time. We used exactly 4 cups broccoli florets saving some for snacks later, but we felt it did not have enough broccoli in it.

Serving size = 4.

There are some I like and some I do not like too. I wish they were more realistic and realized that not all of us have a chef or dietician in our pockets who can do these recipes OR go shopping for the ingredient. Just my thoughts

I have the WB cookbook. There is a wide variety of recipes in it. Like many cook books some which suit my taste buds and others which did not. Mostly though, I'd say it is worth the investment. Some thinking there is too much "other" stuff in it (review of other book).

I have the Wheat Belly book on my Iphone and I could buy the recipe book as well but think I might buy that one hard cover/soft cover rather then on my phone. I know from following Eat to Live that the recipes on an Iphone are HARD to follow when you have to stop to scroll the page !!

I also downloaded Suan Jane Murray's site, thanks to the sparkler that posted that link - by the way, I also have a tuxedo cat - identical to yours, but with a spot of white on his nose !! I'll change my avatar to a pic of him one day but if you visit my spark page, I've got one of him in a clothes basket.

Going to save this thread! Need recipe ideas. Today I bought YOU ON A DIET, South Beach Diet, and a sugar busters book, all in looking for recipes I could use. Was not alot in them, and I plan to copy ones I want, and return these books to the Trift store where I bought them!

I created this Wheat Belly recipe for pizza crust before I saw your post, so it doesn't have WB in the tags or title. I made it for dinner last night and my husband said he liked it even better than the one I used to make with whole wheat. It could also be used for biscuits or scones. I'm going to try it with some cacao powder, coconut oil in place of the olive oil, and almonds for a kind of chocolate tea biscuit. Thinned a little with water or more oil I think it could make some really nice appetizer crackers. I reheat left over pizza on my pizza stone and that crisps up the crust nicely.

Here's is a shortcut link to recipes via SparkPeople that are specific to Wheat Belly:

http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipes.a
sp?food=wheat+belly&anyall=ALL&c1=0&c3

Just copy and paste into your internet address area.

And as a tip - if YOU end up adding a recipe specific to Wheat Belly, be sure to include 'Wheat Belly' in the name of it and it will come up when the search link above is used.
