I wear a fitbit and strive to do 10,000 steps each day. I find it fun to see over 1200 calories burned daily. .

I've joined the "Y" and started participating in Silver Sneakers exercise classes 2-3 times/week.

There is a healthy balance between doing no exercise and doing excessive exercise. For instance I recently heard from some of my High School Alumni friends who played basketball well into their 40's and ended up with damaged ankle and knee joints. Running too much can also do damage, especially if you don't do stretching exercises or yoga to maintain flexibility. Exercises that work a multiple of muscles at the same time and short bursts of activity similar to what our ancestors had to do to survive such as carrying weights a short distance, throwing a weight, climbing, splints, running no more than a 5K make sense. But do warm up exercise or lift light weights first. Encourage all family members to exercise as much as they are able for healthy exercise builds self esteem.
