I started this challenge on Sunday Aug 19, 2018 so I am almost finished with week one. I have made most of the meals and stuck to the plan. I believe it is going great, looking forward to week 2.
Would actually like to see how others are doing in this challenge, just realized today that it is a spark team. I am not on the computer a lot, use the app mostly. Trying to be better about that.

One step at a time

Just realized the challenge I had signed up for is this team.
I guess I am actually on week two now. I have stocked up on vegetables but better yet I am cooking and eating those vegetables!

I am Serena. I now live most of the time at a lodge on the western side of Washington state. I was ready to retire this past July but decided to transfer and stick around for another couple years. I don't think I will last another couple years. The ranch just sold and will close shortly and that will be my opportunity to pay off my new truck and my barn and finally leave the workforce behind! We are opening a destination airbnb and I will be working full time with that and training my new Gypsy

I just started this morning. I am having trouble getting enough protein and I joined in hopes of getting some healthy protein ideas that will not add a heap of calories. I am considering protein bars, but they seem to have a lot of added sugars and ingredients I can't pronounce. Any suggestions?

I am doing well for day 2 + 3. I organized my kitchen food cupboards and donated 4 bags of food to a food bank, 1 bag to a friend & 30 cans to the same friend who is on a pension. I do not have room to put everything I use in lower cupboards.

Day one. All the groceries got organized last night and I packed my lunch. Got up this morning and we had NO propane in our tank. So, showering and cooking breakfast wasn't much in the plan. Grabbed a greek yogurt and some blackberries. Hey, better than nothing. Now eating my shrimp caesar and trying to feel good about the day.

I haven't really been trying, but I need to. I've been dealing with some very frustrating situations lately, I've been depressed, I haven't been shopping, so I haven't been able to stock up. I am not always able to use my computer so I can print out what I need. Since we have absolutely no cell phone service where I live, I can't look it up on my cell phone (I have one for emergencies and twenty miles south of here service is available). Next time I can access the computer with the printer, I will print out what I need.

I WILL get to work on it SOON. That's a promise to myself.

2 nights without the "junk food" snacks. Instead had a slice of watermelon each night. Last night for dinner I had a big salad. So, I had a snack of 1/2 cup 1% milkfat Cottage Cheese, sprinkled on some cinnamon and 2 slices of canned in 100% juice peaches. Delicious.

On my way.

not consistant all day. i have picked a couple healtheier snacks, but i am still having too much junk and too many sweets. and the portion of those sweets is not controlled as much. but i am working on it.

I joined this team spur of the moment. i already went grocery shopping the day before.
Luckily i still had some of the items for healthy snacks and meals. i need to rewire my thinking about what a SNACK should be. i tend to think of them as sweets- mostly chocolate. i want sweets everyday. when i looked at the snack items on the list, i saw options that were also savory, like nuts and veggies.
I need to rewire that part of my brain that thinks "a quick snack" should be sugary. The food list gives a lot of good ideas - not heavy on calories, but heavy on nutrients and filling.

Just got back from the grocery store. That's a lot of groceries. I hope the meat and fish doesn't go bad by the time I cook it. Cost plenty as well, but if I break it down by meal, I suppose it's not too bad. Plus some of the items (pantry items) will last a long time.

I'll start officially tomorrow. Tonight, it's guilt free mac n cheese and a salad. (not on the list, but I saw it at the store.)

I just need to move more. The rest, I'm sure will follow.

The week is going well so far. This challenge is helping me stay focused on healthy food and I have been walking on the treadmill and doing yoga every day. Tomorrow is weigh-in day for me. Pretty sure I have lost a little:)

Wise choices each day will get me where I want to be.

Only one more day left for me in week one...so far so good. I've eaten only healthy foods all week,.. which I am very happy about. I will weigh myself again tomorrow to see how I did in the weight lost department.

Week one is going well so far. I have super bowl on Sunday and am trying to decide how to make it through the food part and still have enough of a supper meal. I'm taking a fruit plate but everything else is not ok for the eating plan I'm following.

Week One is going well for me. I bought a container of apples at Costco, and am satisfied with the apples instead of chocolate. Today I will make low fat Waldorf salad. My husband doesn't like it, but it's all for me. It's okay to think of myself sometimes!!

Stick with it! If you're measuring and recording all your foods and staying within your daily range, the weight will eventually come off. Adding a little more exercise each week is also a good strategy. Above all, don't get discouraged and give up. You can do this!

Wise choices each day will get me where I want to be.

I've been eating the right meals, but I may be at a plateau because I haven't lost any weight recently. I guess I will have to try doing more exercise.

My first week and it was very stressful. My husband is having a lot of health issues which is causing me to get a lot less sleep than normal. I also ended up gaining 2.4 pounds from my last weigh in. emoticon

I am not liking most of the food choices or ingredients in the meal plans that are at the beginning of the week so I have kind of skipped following those specific ones but I still made out my meal plan and grocery shopping list. I am also having a hard time getting even close to the amount of calories it says I am supposed to have can not even get close to 1000 cals most days but yet I feel full and I still have the strength to get my exercise in. All in all I would say week 1 was a great week for me even with some of the little challenges so to speak that I mentioned.

I have a harder time on weekends too.
I usually don't have a problem with getting my fruits and veggies. Love, Love, Love most of them. For me, it's watching my servings....grew up on a farm with "farm portions" have to re-educate myself.

I didn't know about that "Mix & Match Food Planner" - looks like a great tool.
I'm certainly going to try it.
Thanks Coach Jen

first week was going great until the weekend came! I tend to have a much easier time sticking to healthy eating during the week. Over the weekend, I gave in to some unhealthy options - alcohol and just eating more than needed at meals. I did resist the chips and dessert though! Getting back on track today.

Awesome! Thank you Jenn! I'll be exploring that link much more.

I just got home from an hour bike ride, put my meals together for the day and now I'm going to shower and crash out. The joys of the night shift :-)

You might try the meal planner in your Nutrition Tracker, which will give you some good suggestions to follow.

Day 1....
I'm supposed to go grocery shopping after I make my healthy grocery list. I'm wondering if there are some sample plans to follow to make my list?
I normally eat vegetarian and have been following (mostly) vegetarian Zone and really like it, but the meals have gotten really boring. I've tried modifying it on my own and then end up off plan and now am back on the boring meals but I know it can't last long.
I need some variety. I need NOT soo much soy products. I really love some of the recipes but it's just about 10 recipes recycled over 2 weeks.
If anyone has any grocery list/meal plan suggestions, I'm all ears.
Good luck everyone! Together we can meet our health goals.

This is a really good challenge. I've been doing (or at least aware of) a lot of this for quite some time but it's good to have a refresher.
My kitchen stays pretty organized because I cook most of our meals at home but I did get some stuff put away so that I have room on my extra table for all the canning supplies. I'll get even more done when Tom gets the new cupboard in for the mixer and all the baking supplies.
Portion control is still a hard one for me and I just can't spend 20 eating my meals. I'm learning to plan my meals around veggies instead of all the other stuff and to only snack on veggies, if I snack at all and I don't really have a problem with getting hungry between meals.
So there's my recap of Week One!

The organizing has been good for me. My family still eats the junk even though I'm trying to get off all the processed food. So I took time to make a section in the pantry just for them. I put their chips and cookies in a basket on a higher shelf.

The healthier choices are on a shelf at my eye level. That's where I tend to look when I'm planning snacks for the day.

Today is the measuring...I had already started doing that, but it's a great reminder. I always notice that measuring makes a big difference.

So far I like this challenge a lot.
