Heidi looks like a very sweet pup.

Our new Mascott is Heidi. We adopted her from the Animal Shelter when she was 8 months. We had her for 13 years. A very sweet dog. I could have named her Lady, because she was a true lady, but went with the name Heidi after my favorite movie with Shirley Temple.

Thank you, it's a combination of greyt (greyhound) and dolphin (was a guide/docent/volunteer at Mote Marine Aquarium in Sarasota Florida---stood by the dolphins and explained to visitors).

I have had greyhounds for about 20 years and have one greyhound now, Bella.

i havent been here in a while and than i see Kazaa, i said how did this photo get here lol?


She is Kazaa, and it is our rescue dog from a kennel 6 years ago, she is a former service dog, drug and bomb sniffing...
she is not doing well lately, dementia, oster arthritis and lost a lot of weight but still hanging in.

Like the T-shirts say "I just want to hang out with my dogs" Sounds like us!

When I went to greyhound gatherings in Abilene, Kansas, I saw how the greys were raised like cattle with only dirt to run on and sleeping in unheated, not insulated big old dog house sheds. It gets darned cold in Kansas. The people thought of them as farm animals, not pets. Most of the dogs adopted out didn't go to local Kansas homes. Down here in Florida the greys that get off the track are mostly shipped north where they'll be adopted. I guess the same feelings prevail here.

Funny thing, I generally get along better with animal lovers. They seem to have more compassion, but I know that I'm judging with a broad brush. My sister and I have parted company--happened before Christmas. Her dislike of animals also extends to people.

You're right, it is a gift from God to have animals in our lives and to have that inclination to love animals. After selling copiers for almost 30 years, I was glad to come home to my dogs.

Funny, I am the youngest of 4 girls. Neither my Mom and Dad were big animal lovers. My Dad was warmer then my Mom, but I don't ever them ever having a big attachment to my pets. They both were raised on farms back in the 20's (Missouri). They probably raised animals for food, so maybe that is why. My 3 oldest Sisters were not animal lovers either. My oldest Sister was simi because her Hubby loved dogs. My guess is if he had never said "I want a dog", then they probably wouldn't have had any. The 2 Sisters in-between us no attachment at all that I ever saw. Now sure how I became a major animal lover. I think it is a gift from God.

I think we do have the same compassion for pets. I love our 2 so much and remember fondly the procession of greyhounds and a rescued Norwegian elkhound and rescued mutt and rescued keeshound that came before them.

As much as my mom didn't like animals, I went the opposite way. My sister doesn't particularly like animals either. None of my dogs have ever gone near her or paid any attention to her. Dogs seem to know.

I was a docent at the St Louis Zoo for 20 years (on the weekends, worked full time during the week first as a teacher and then in copier/computer sales--to the federal and state and local governments. In Florida I volunteered at Mote Marine Research and Aquarium. I loved it there.

I had a dog growing up, Sandy. Her Mom was a blond Cocker Spaniel, and her Dad a Beagle. Sandy was blond like her Mom,. but looked Beagle. Short hair and all. Every time I see pics of Mari's dogs, their eyes remind me of Sandy. My Dad got rid of my Cat, so I know how you feel. He was mad because she kept having kittens. Well duh...We had a Vet in town that could have fixed that problem. Looks like we have the same compassion for pets.

He's darling, reminds me of my first dog as a kid, a beagle named Buster. My mom gave him away on me, took him to the local pound. I never forgave her. She told me when I was old enough to have my own place, I could get as many as I want. I've rarely been below 2 dogs, have gotten up to 4 at a time.

Mr. Clyde of Dale came to Us from an organization in Our area called Saving Pets at Risk. I have work with and am Friends of some of their members. My DH decided Our older Jack Russell was lonely so I called the Girls and they found Us Clyde. When He came to Us He was afraid of His own shadow. He has been going to the groomer and that has helped some. He did very well for Thanksgiving and Christmas with a house full of people. He loves to go to the farm and run. He is a wonderful sweet doggie. He is a long wired haired Jack Russell. We love Him very much. Thank You for this honor for Him!!

You took a good picture, just a bit on the dark side. And when a pet is dark colored, it makes it harder to show up because they reduce the size of the picture so much in here. I have come across that a few times. He is a real handsome dog!

He does look great in that picture! Thanks for lightening it up, and using it in spite of my photographic skills. He is such a sweet dog.

Louisa is thrilled to be the "star"! She was just featured on the site dog shaming.com as their bathing beauty.

Anyway, "Lucky" came to us six years ago after the man who initially rescued her,as a young puppy, had to move to an old age home. We were approached by a local rescue group to see if we might foster her.

Well, it took me less than 24 hours to fall hopelessly in love with her. My husband didn't want a second dog and did his best to find her a home but I sabotaged all of his efforts. In fact we spent our tenth wedding anniversary at a nice restaurant arguing over keeping her. Needless to say, I won so John said he wanted to rename her. Lucky became Louisa and she is John's shadow. He loves her to pieces and he can't imagine life without heR!

Up until we took her in at age 4 she had never been swimming or taken in the woods. Now she goes everyday for an off leash run and loves chasing squirrels, bunnies and birds. She is truly a lovely dog and greets everybody with a wag of her tail and her big goofy smile.

She has had some health issues but the worse one was being diagnosed with diabetes. Thankfully it's being controlled by two injections of insulin a day and she doesn't mind the needles. Also, she loves going to the vet! They have a picture at the clinic of her sitting up in the red leather "human" chair waiting to be seen to by the vet.

As we say, "everybody loves Louisa and Louisa loves everybody...almost as much as she loves chicken"

Boo is my best friend, she will be 7 years old on Halloween. When I first came to Florida in 2006 I was a snowbird, so not a resident. Because of this I was not allowed to adopt a pet from a shelter . I had to be a resident of Florida . And I volunteered for a rescue at the time and still do. Anyway I was at petco one day on adoption day for our rescue and I seen a list on a bulletin board of puppies. of course rescues frown on paying a breeder for a puppy when there are so many to be rescued, but a rule is a rule..
Anyway I went and picked out Boo, she was the runt , she is the most amazing dog, she does all kinds of tricks, if I sneeze she jumps on my chest and rubs her neck on my face..hilarious, I have no idea where that comes from. I have had her since she was 8 weeks old. She is a tibitan spaniel. Which is a mix of a Pekinese and shih tzu. Everybody loves Boo, she volunteers with me at the rescue now. Oh, and they changed that rule now, our rescue will let you adopt if your a snowbird ..I Love My Boo'
