Just a test..some people have dairy sensitivities or it stalls them. Thank goodness I’m not one..this challenge was way too rigid for me...

Just curious...the reason everyone gave up dairy as part of the challenge? I'm not on FB so I can't read the rationale. Thanks! JC

Late to posting, but wanted to update that I made it through, too.
Yíall did so great, congratz!!
I ended up losing that 7 lbs, then nothing after thatóbut Iíll take it!
Letís not do a dairy challenge again for a while...a loooong while...or never would be good...

Interestingly enough - I lost nothing in my waist and hips, but 1.75 inches in each thigh. I'll take it for sure, but weird if you ask me.

This challenge was long and hard. I'm looking forward to February's exercise challenge!

I think I didn't do as well as the rest of you - but well enough for a first attempt at dairy free. I might try that again for a week long challenge at some point. Not any time soon!!

Looking forward to broccoli/cheese/butter/bacon for super bowl....

And excited about the February challenge!! We got the exercise room cleaned out and painted so now a new and fresh place to exercise!

Oh Holly sorry to hear about the tooth. At least it is just one!

I had two wisdom taken out at once when I was in my 20's. Can't imagine doing what Karen did and have all four out. YIKES!

I am looking forward to February's new challenge.

LOL, yeah I am a rock star but I am still a FAT rock star! I need to get the ball rolling in February!! I really need to start losing again.

Holly I feel for you!! I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth taken out the week before I turned 19 (and was off my parents' insurance plan) and it was not fun. Hopefully one is easier to handle than 4!!

Kathleen you are a rock star!! You're doing great, and I predict the same in February!

Funny, it didn't seem like this dairy-free challenge was going to be that difficult. WOW, it feels like forever and I was already dairy-free. Probably because I had realized I could take some dairy back without problem around the same time the challenge came up - and I jumped right in -and then I couldn't have it! I can imagine how hard it has been on both of you KD & Holly.

I think the February challenge is a great idea and doable for all of us. Going at our own pace with our own daily choice of activity is important. Since I hurt my knee (November) I have been slacking off big time. ( Lots of pity parties here/use to being so active/not sitting around the house every day) So now it is time to get going again. (Knee is much improved but if I pace myself all will go well )

heres how i look at it. i had NO intentions of doing this tough a challenge for our first one..but when it was posted on IBIH and so many were doing it..we all agreed why not. I think anyone that has hung in, no matter if they are some off or all on..deserves kudos. this was HARD. (IS hard..for 3 more days..lol) and i think anyone that even attempted it is a rockstar!!

i have my meals planned for the 1st already..and they involve cream cheese, sharp cheese, and heavy cream!! the only thing i can say is..thank goodness butter was allowed or i wouldnt have made it through the first week!!

I'm hanging in there. Not over 20, but I didn't exactly track because we were so busy this weekend. Eggs and bacon for breakfast, salad for lunch with a bit of tuna fish, and crock pot pork with cabbage and celery and a bit of onion for dinner. 1/2 of a small keto bundt cake for dessert. I have no macros for the cake, but it was like 4 bites, sugar free and gluten free, so it couldn't have been much. I hope.

February hurry up!!

KDGIRL _ what is it with you and that one pound? But at least your weight is moving somewhat up & down.

I think I am officially at a total stall. I really am very tired of this challenge but I will see it to the end. I think it was just to long of a time frame for me. Funny I didn't mind being dairy free until I knew I couldn't have it.

I'd like to do a February challenge but maybe not for as many days as this one was. Too long for me.

Oh the sigh - I'm up 1.8 lbs in the last 5 days. Why? Who knows. All in all, a jagged weight loss chart. I'm fine with it.

By the way - did anyone come up with a February challenge yet?

Kathleen, thanks for that! Keto has helped me tremdously, truly. The constant pain that Iím in (neuropathy, among other things) has diminished greatly, and that makes a huge difference. As you say, baby steps and one day at a time. Hanging in there!

Forgot to mention that as well as everything I listed in the message I have Stage 3 kidney failure. Not sure if I could handle a med the normally requires kidney monitoring, but hey, still worth mentioning!

No worries there Raven...i was so looking forward to my cheeseburger soup tonite..then it hit me on the cheese and cream in it. so pissed!!!

i too have afib...i can walk, and lift heavy weights, but due to bad knees i cant do jumping jacks, running in place, jumprope, etc.

can you do arm things? there are chair workouts that are surprisingly good.

and i know we are all different, but my most excellent cardiologist, who people fly in all over to learn from, found a med that pretty much has STOPPED the afib. you need to be checked every 3-4 months for kidney function, but thats a minor inconvenience. before this med i was in the ER once or twice a month..then up to ICU till cardioversion happened. If you want the name of it, message me. it was a miracle for me..they tried ablation 3 times they cant isolate the pathway causing the afib. i also have SVT--supraventricular Tachycardia, and bijeminy..and this med has them all under control. between that and keto i've gotten my life back and i dont live scared every minute like i used to!!

Ugh, Holly, I understand believe me! I didnít even cook dinner last night. I told everyone they were on their own to find something for dinner. They all chose cereal. Then I felt guilty...
I had two hard boiled eggs and went to bed.

Come on, February!

Iím up for whatever challenge wise. I canít exercise at all, basically. I have atrial fibrillation with rapid ventricular response (among other things). Even walking to the next room is dangerous, heh. But am willing to try SOMETHING. If yíall choose exercise to be it, then Iíll come up with something to fit in.

Just...please...donít restrict dairy... I think I might have a breakdown if yíall do... LOL

I want to do another Challenge in Feb but I can't do any strenuous exercises. Especially now with my knee problem. But if it is a timed challenge with our choice of exercise that could work.
It's been months since I actually counted my steps for walking. Maybe we could do something like a total exercise time of 60 minutes throughout the day for only 5 days a week?

I am open to just about anything as long as it is not taking away any of my foods. LOL
I can't think of any challenge ideas.

many of us cant do that kind of workout..myself included. I lift heavy daily, and walk...but i could ramp up the walking. i think if everyone chose what they wanted to do, and just added to it weekly that might work?

I definitely think an exercise challenge Holly!!

JJVirgin does burst training - you can do it in any amounts or exercises and I like the concept.

You do your exercise for 30-60 seconds as hard as you can (you choose) like say jumping jacks or climbing stairs, or pretend jumping rope (don't want the rope to get in the way and trip someone up) and then do the same activity for twice as long at a leisurely pace. Then repeat. We could start with 8 minutes total, and do it 4-6 times a week and each week add 2 minutes? This way people with limitations can choose a different exercise. Just make it strenuous for yourself.

Great job KD!!!!

Since there are 3 or 4 of us rocking this challenge...anyone want to weigh in on February challenge? just please...include dairy..LOL!!

some thoughts...

an exercise challenge..such as start with 5 mins add a minute a day..and anything goes.

a new recipe challenge..try a new keto recipe at least once a week and share your reviews..if its good post to the recipe thread

or whatever. We started with a big, difficult one. probably should have saved it for end of year, but...we now know we can do it, so everything else should be a breeze!!

Trigger foods and buffer foods. Interesting.

Trigger foods for me would be just a bite of pizza or a fork full of pasta with tomato sauce. I think tomato and the gluten is the trigger for me. If I don't take that first taste I am okay.

Buffer foods that get me through would be anything salty like a cup of popcorn or a teaspoon of peanut butter. Also salty pickles & olives to extreme amounts.

I never ate nuts before Keto so it is something I do not crave or miss.

i've never had pili nits, but when i have nuts its walnuts, pecans or macadamias, or a mix of those three. Almonds are so high in carbs i never eat them...if i have almond butter its literally a teaspoon..and you arent weird unless i am..almond butter doesnt make me want nuts.

your dream made me chuckle..silly ole cow!!! she is right, though..the non dairy is usually something the experts suggest so people can identify if it is something you are reactive to, or to break a stall. obviously i'm not reactive, my stall IS broken, so i can deal for another week and a half.

but i dont have to like it..LOL!

Holly, nuts are a definite trigger for me, as well...especially pili nuts and macadamias. Oddly, I donít seem to react that way with almond butter, especially if used in a recipe. Whole almond are a bit of a trigger, though. I know, it makes no sense.

Had a dream last night that I was walking down a road with my son and we saw a dairy cow in a field. In the dream, son said, ďSheís not the enemy.Ē Then the cow turned to me and said, ďHeís correct, you know.Ē
I wish I were joking about this...

Why canít I obsess like this over lettuce or something?? Dairyís beginning to scare me... lol

thats pretty accepted across the board. i was really interested in the study that showed that usually what we crave is what we shouldnt have, or react to.

but that when eliminated, and a small time period without it goes by, we no longer want it. i am a model of that. i no longer want sugar and bread etc...and now with 2 weeks with no nuts, i have no want of them, either.

Dr. Jade Teta says there is a difference in trigger foods and buffer foods.

Trigger foods make you go off the wagon, eat more, maybe even eat things that you shouldn't.

Buffer foods (maybe a tiny bit of something that's not strictly keto or in your meal plan) keep you from going off the wagon.

He says when he has a glass of wine with dinner he enjoys his meal more and does not want to eat unhealthy/extra foods. For others, it's an invitation to go crazy.

Others may choose a spoonful of peanut butter to keep cravings at bay - whatever your choice is is entirely individual.

Trigger foods and buffer foods. Seems reasonable to me.

Nuts do seem to be a trigger food for me. When I eat some, I want MORE. Peanut butter definitely the same. I had to quit. I'm not talking a teaspoon, I'd want several scoops.

I do think a glass of wine is a buffer food for me. I don't go crazy with food, or more wine (well except last weekend) and it makes me enjoy life and keep keto.

Anyone else have examples of buffer/trigger foods?

today was my weigh in for my challenge group. Down 7 since the start. Do i think its due to no dairy? no. i think its due to no nuts. i know they are a trigger for me. and i know i cant stay out of them..and a couple tablespoons is never enough..so..out the go. no more nuts.

i havent gone over 10 total carbs any day. but thats normal for me.

Learning a LOT about myself and my chosen way of eating with this challenge. For instance, apparently to me butter and cheese are LIFE! LOL Seriously, though, they seem to be an important part of me being able to ďstay the courseĒ on Keto. And Iím okay with that being the case (after this challenge, of course!).

Kathleen, I think youíre doing so great! I think all of you are, actually. Itís been both educational and, to be honest, kind of fun to watch the results that others have posted here.

HOLLY - I was just sounding off about quitting. I am okay today, I'm still going to finish the challenge.
I was a little upset the other day over ...cream cheese.

My DH came home with a huge loaf of french toast bread and said he was making US that for breakfast. I said no thanks and I thought I would whip up the Keto crepes. DUH. Then I realized...cream cheese! NOOOOOOOOOOOO. So I was a little miffed that I couldn't have the crepes. I am over it now. LOL So silly. Only a few more weeks.

You mean now or after the 1st? Some have dropped out, mostly those who never do keto correctly in the first place. Many are hanging in. Some have had small slips..no big deal. Some have stayed the course. I think the point of the whole thing has been to see where you might need work to keep on track..several have said they didn’t realize how much of the forbidden things they were having.
