I just finished this book, Fast This Way by Dave Asprey, as an audiobook. He acknowledges Dr. Fung at the end, so I feel that sharing it with this team should be okay.

This is a 2021 release and begins with a visit to a shaman. Don’t let that turn you off. He presents information that many fasting experts don’t address - hormones, supplements, long-term side effects, fertility, hair loss, and more. He really stresses INTERMITTENT, not daily, consistent fasting patterns.

This was found on a FB page with "team" The Fasting Method Network by Dr. Jason Fung & Megan Ramos.

It says a lot and I found it inspiring as to fasting benefits.

My natural innate state is a prolonged fasted-state, not a constantly fed-state
I don't need to be constantly eating... like an herbivore
I feel better eating now & then, like an apex predator...which we are!
Most of our top 10 killers of chronic disease, are all related to our cells being choked with glucose & triglycerides

Fasting detoxes our bodies of the toxic excess glucose & triglycerides
I am in control of when I eat, not my previously addicted reward center in my brain
When I do eat, it's a celebration!!
Healing, growth, & repair happens in the fast-state
I have now broken free from "The Powers of the B's" (Big Farm, Big Agro, Big Pharma) by knowing what to eat & when to eat.

Conventional Medicine should be very afraid...
People are learning how to heal their own bodies
Health & Wellness teachers (like Dr Fung) will be the Rock Stars of the future

A new 2-hour interview with Dr. Jason Fung. Sometimes I need a refresher!
youtu.be/vWg0oBFRZPI
He discusses his new book, The Cancer Code, explains why 6 mini-meals a day doesn’t work, why white sugar is so bad, why athletes improve with fasting, how religions have fasted for centuries, and more! I laughed at his recognition that paleo bars weren’t around in caveman times. Fast and eat healthy!

I describe intermittent fasting as giving the digestive system a rest. Just as the body needs sleep to restore itself, it also needs a break from constant digestion. Just as we need a break from daily exercising, working seven days a week, or doing anything else to excess - take a break. Hunger is not an emergency. (I read this just this week. It is from The Beck Solution.)

Just delay and give digestion a rest. This linked blog post is from a maintainer, KRISZTA11.

Frankly, IMO I've yet to find a supportive therapist. (I had one threaten to "turn me in" for self- harm due to fasting?! ~ Say what?????) -- I told her I had HISTORY on my side!
emoticon

I spoke w/ a gentleman today that has been fasting over the years. He indicates it has only been "helpful"! (He is currently on day #5. Apparently he has fasted for lengthy time periods...)

And he mentioned also, the idea that people think a "pill" will fix things. ~ What happens if we let the body "fix" itself by allowing it the opportunity to heal...apart from food?

Here's more on the subject of I.F.

Interesting thread!

I have a therapist question me about what I eat. I think she thinks I have an eating disorder too.

It's too bad as I have to eat a certain way for my health. Ppl still think one just takes a med and it solves all their problems.

The only thing helping my problem is IF and lower carb.

Thank u for the resource. I will check it out on my computer, as the link didn't work for me.

In “Feast, Fast, Repeat” the advice is the timed eating window, is established by YOU. You decide which meals you merge or skip, depending on your perspective and schedule. I think Dr. Fung says the same thing. The inclusion of the circadian rhythm is an interesting concept. I am usually finished eating by 5 or 6 p.m. and my sleep pattern is very consistent. Even my Fitbit says so!

I've recently been introduced to "reverse" fasting. -- It's the same idea that many are familiar with called IF. But instead of skipping break-the-fast in the AM, it either moves up or removes dinner from the feeding time frame.

One goal is to help with circadian rhythm(s), with the idea that this is tied to every cell of the body.

The following is a quote from my link provided below:
"...part of this intermittent fasting/sun cycle plan is to get your sleep schedule in harmony with your eating schedule. This means your bedtime is between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. every night and your waking time is between 5:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. every morning. But what if you are a self-proclaimed night owl? (me) Although it seems like there are people who are night owls and people who are early morning people—the truth is that most people have very similar circadian rhythms! Keeping your sleep schedule as close to this schedule as possible will help you have good sleep hygiene, and your body will thank you."

www.mindbodygreen.com/articl
es/reverse
-fasting-benefits

Do you think this is worth trying for a month? -- In terms of Dr. Fung, he would say that whenever we take a break from eating, we are benefiting our body. So my thought is that RF could make a difference, especially w/ those of us who are menopausal ? !

I do know my sleep & set point & circadian rhythm all could use an UPGRADE!

@PRIMEOFMYLIFE -- The apps I both tried & looked at really have not been helpful for me. But I want to move forward in regaining my "footing" on the fasting path. I ALWAYS feel better. It totally is a "game-changer" for me.

Found this today & wanted to share it as a resource:
drpompa.com/fasting/fasting-
for-purpos
e-five-day-water-fast/

I lot of people are afraid of extended fasting (EF). IMO it really isn't that hard to add a few hours, one day a week to get to 24, 36, 48, etc.

My longest stretch went about 13 days. (It was 2 yrs ago. Maybe I can find my journal notes from that time...?!) -- I did this for about 8-9 months, every 6-8 weeks.

The autophagy and change within truly is powerful. And, it is easier for me since I'm not tied to any prescriptions that limit my options.

*** But as always, this is NOT medical advice. I would never presume to suggest for another person what would be best/healthiest for them. -- Please choose what works for you...and if you can find a supportive medical person, that is always a suggested path to take.
(I could not. In fact, I had one attempt to "turn me in for an eating disorder"?!?) ...and this was after sharing Dr. Fung's "The Obesity Code" with my physician.

I found this article so helpful!

Quoted in part: "Being in a state of ketosis is safe and can provide much benefit to the neurological system and metabolic pathways of the body. People will often report sharper mental function, increased energy, better sleep, weight loss, and fewer food cravings."

The article also explains the difference between ketosis and ketoacidosis. Can you tell I am a newbie! lol!

It also explains why some people need to be careful on the keto diet, such as, people who have had the gall bladder removed.

(I was checking to see if there was a point where it would be "unsafe" when amount needed to lose was getting lower.) -- This article says: "People who struggle with their weight, whether it is the last 10 or the last 100 pounds, can all benefit from fasting."

Here's a quote & a link that says some of what I've personally discovered in terms of EF (extended fasting):

"While promising for some populations, remember that fasting itself is a stressor. If you are already under a significant amount of stress, adding another stress in the form of fasting may not be your best weight loss option. Instead, you may want to consider tailoring your carbohydrate and protein intakes to best support your adrenals."

I was wondering if I was "safe" to be actively exercising while on EF. This article answered my question / concern. He says "go ahead" and do everything you would normally do.

Found this information today. Definitely encouraging in terms of benefits of fasting!

** However, the 1st site itself seems somewhat "suspect". I'm not sure the level of true research or where the info. has been gleaned. So...use caution in believing everything you read!

This is a medical journal that briefly discusses OMAD.

I have to say, that the one summer I tried IF it seemed to overall slow down my metabolism over a period of 4 months. But then I didn't know anything about KETO or LCHF styles of eating either.

I do mix up my days, more often than not. It works better for me! And, I think the variety keeps my body guessing?! -- I do OMAD & IF some of the time, just not every day.

There is a new movie on Amazon Prime called "Fasting"
I haven't watched it yet but someone told me it was worthwhile, and has Dr. Fung in it quite a bit. I will watch it soon - let me know if you do!

NASH--a liver disease stemming from Fatty Liver. Few to no symptoms. Many people don't know they have it.

IF helps fatty liver so may help this too. However, it is important to see the doctor for early diagnosis and treatment.

Quoted in part:

"Adults in their 40s and 50s are getting diagnosed with Stage 3 or Stage 4 liver cirrhosis, even though they have never consumed alcohol to excess and have never felt any symptoms of the disease. What’s going on?

Liver specialists say there’s a form of hepatitis that is sneaking up on about 12 percent of the U.S. population, an estimated 25 million Americans, and they want to urge primary-care providers to send patients for testing earlier in the game.

Called nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, or NASH for short, it does not result from drug use, alcoholism, sexual contact, water contaminants or viruses. Rather this particular liver condition occurs when too much fat is stored in liver cells...."

Cardiovascular Protection from Tea Likely

West v. East: Habits of Drinking Tea vary in Western Culture. (I drink tea like the East.)

Quote in part regarding adding milk to the tea:

"In the United Kingdom, it is estimated that 99% of tea drinkers add milk to their tea. Does this make a difference? Flavonoids are bound to protein and adding milk may abolish much of the antioxidant effect. The flavonol quercetin, found in green and black tea, onions and red wine, is reported to reduce the oxidation of LDL cholesterol and block platelet aggregation that may reduce heart disease."
