Craig Ballantyne, author of "The Perfect Day Formula" - How to Own the Day and Control Your Life, says one should set positive rules (not merely goals) for living. I decided to share mine.

First, I have 5 Mantras which guide me, They are:

emoticon
1. I AM IN CHARGE OF MY JOY
I am in charge as to how my life and circumstances affect me. Only I can decide my own outlook on life. I choose to live my life to its fullness with joy for my life.
emoticon
2. I HAVE A HIGHER POWER THAT SERVES ME
I have everything that I need to live my life successfully through the inner power of God, or of the universe. I don't need the approval of others, for I look within my soul and the written word of trusted authority, as clarified through my soul, to guide my life. I am not a puppet of the world's opinions.
emoticon
3. I TURN FAILURES INTO SUCCESS
My failures strengthen and empower me because I accept the present and move on from there with no regrets for the past. Setbacks have and will always occur, but they are only temporary as I am stronger for them; and, I will always find a way to endure and overcome them so that my life has a positive meaning for others.
emoticon
4. I MAKE EMPOWERING CHOICES
Everything in life is an opportunity to grow, there's always a lot of opportunity around me. Every minute is a chance to reflect and a chance to make empowering choices that lead me further towards my goals. I choose what my goals in life are and will daily make choices that reflect positively on my goals.
emoticon
5. I WILL PERSEVERE
I will remain positive and focus on what is beautiful and wondrous about myself and my surroundings. I know that I have made mistakes in my past as have everyone else, but I am strong enough to persevere in spite of them. I will live a wholesome, inspirational, healthy and joyous life because I will persevere through all things by the guidance of my soul.

Also, I follow the following 13 rules based on examples in Craig's book, but the details vary. They are set below.

1. I go to bed at 10:00 PM and rise at 6:00 AM daily. Was an hour earlier each for a while but wife objected.
2. I eat only clean healthy foods, and no later than 7 pm
3. I write for at least 60 minutes first thing every morning or until Kim gets up.
4. I respect all others regardless of race, politics, creed or who they are, unless it is necessary to report them to the police or other authority.
5. I create a to do list at the start of every day and abide by it by making it my priority.
6. I guide myself by two phrases: A) “other opinions matter less” I can only work at my goal of living a conservative life and helping others – the opinions of others do not control, and B) “It will be over in time” – Everything good and bad must come to an end, I must enjoy and make use of the good, and persevere through the bad until I have beaten it.
7. Everything, good and bad, that happens to me is my personal responsibility, I will not make excuses by blaming others. This is my life and my choice. I accept the consequences of my actions.
8. I seek to help others transform their lives by being a lighthouse to the true possibilities of living a meaningful life.
9. I eat only healthy food in proper portions, and I will exercise regularly at least 250 minutes each week.
10. I always keep the child within me alive, I will make time to have fun.
11. I write and blog with feeling about what I think matters.
12. I keep in touch with family members and encourage them to excel and live a full and healthy life.
13. I will not be a person that I don’t want to be. I will not be petty, jealous, frivolous, envious, or any of those lazy emotions. I do not gossip or speak unkindly of others, no matter who I am with or what environment I am in. I will not be negative and will not hurt others. I know the environments, situations that I must avoid, and will in fact avoid them, even if it means losing relationships with others. It is my life and that matters more than what others think of me.

Please wish me luck with rule number 9, Bob

When you scan the label have the phone in an upright position. Not all labels are in the database.

Having moved to the South of France last year, I am constantly trying to improve my French. Now I can even have telephone conversations as long as people don’t talk too quickly...

Kaliswalker I followed your instructions for scanning the upc on a label and I could not make it work.
Can you look at the instructions again and maybe I am missing something.
I really think this would be handy....

I live in Canada so learning more French would be beneficial. I could watch the hockey games in French, prepare for my next trip to Quebec, talk with kids taking French immersion in school.

I read online news on my phone. I love The Guardian (free app) a British publication, and some of the others. On average I google 4 new words a day. Just when you think you know everything... there is a lot more to learn.

@kaliswalker-I am doing Spanish. And so now when I am walking in town-I listen for words I know. The way Duolingo works-I can read/write it better than speak it

This week, as it’s got warmer, I’ve been walking both dogs separately before breakfast (after theirs). Nogi, being an ex hunt dog, a Griffon Cross, gets three miles. Zaba, a six year old Great Dane, gets a mile. That means that I get four miles. Today is Saturday and I felt I deserved a rest so Nogi got two miles and Zaba is taking a break, after all he’s getting on a bit...

Geocaching sounds really fun! Also a great way to get active. Have you found any cool treasures, yet?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the dog is back in commission soon to go walking again. I find it very hard to get motivated to go out on my own, but if I take him it's super easy to go out and do a mile plus each day. Vet should have more info for me today!

Last week I tried geocaching for the first time. The app is free and it's easy enough to get started. Play with it at home to get familiar with it, then set off for your destination. You can look at hints and pictures other searchers have entered. We walked to the forest here so that made a regular walk more interesting.

scan UPC on a smart phone

On the Sparkpeople app click on +FOOD button

then you see the blue top Search Food to the right the is a square shaped symbol with arrows on each corner, click on that and point it at the UPC and it automatically clicks

Mary what language are you doing on duolingo?

I haven't touched a grandchild since February, but I have seen them from 6' away a couple of times.

I trimmed my hubby's sideburns. He's a little picky, when I was finished he asked me if they were the same length... ok I did a little revision haha.

It had been since the pandemic started that I got to be up close and personal with my grandchildren. We decided last week that it is safe for us to be in close contact. Yesterday my daughter asked me to come over and play with the two youngest ones while she did her homeschool Math with her oldest. She had set up a play room for them to play in. My grandson 3 years old clung to me like if he would not see me again if he let go. It was wonderful to hold him in my lap and read to him. And he didn’t want me to leave when it came time, but he accepted my assurances that we would see each other again. I loved it.

I used hair clippers to cut hubby’s hair. Years ago, I used to trim my standard poodle’s coat, but that was far more work. I was delighted with the result, but not entirely sure how DH felt. Good thing it’s warm weather lol.

Wow I just learned I how easy it is use the Sparkpeople nutrition tracker using my phone. I can speak into the phone, no keying! It's is easy to pick the foods because it seems to show the ones I commonly use! Also I can scan UPC which instantly identifies the product, though it's not a guarantee that the nutritional value has already has already been entered by someone in Spark.
