Hi! I have a problem with not enough protein as well. Due to restrictions on my diet because of kidney issues, I can't have red meat or a lot of dairy products, Soy's out, and I'm not much of a cook. My protein limit a day is 50g.

I found a protein bar called Pure Protein that's pretty good in the chocolate flavor. It has 32g of protein, 7g of fat, and 4g of sugar. It has 26g of carbs, but for a meal replacement bar, that's okay. I believe the calorie count is 280. It's a large bar, and it's best to drink a lot of water while eating it. The bar is a bit chewy and sticks to my teeth a little. Taking small bites of it works best, I've found.

For me, it's satisfying for a meal. I often eat a salad or a piece of fruit with it, but it's enough on its own. I just have the other to get my veggie or fruit count in for the day.

I have difficulty with protein, too. I try to get some natural peanut butter into my diet every day. Another trick that has worked is cooking beans and chicken to have on hand. I boil or crock pot the chicken and shred it up. This makes it easier to add to everything. I cook pizzas on Flat-Out high fiber tortilla and load mine up with veggies and shredded chicken.

I have a hard time with this too . I'm allergic to eggs and not a huge meat fan. I get some from almonds, soy milk, sometimes chicken or fish, I eat the weight control oatmeal every morning as it has protein. I don't like tofu. I do eat peanut butter.

I use egg whites. Sometimes I mix them with a whole egg and make scrambled eggs. I throw in veggies with plain egg whites and make an omelet in a non-stick pan or when I'm in a real hurry, just a plain egg white omelet topped with a wee bit of ketchup after it's done works in a crunch.

I drink a protein shake in the mornings with a banana. It pumps up my protein & isn't high in fat.

Other dairy products, like low-fat milk and yogurt have lots of protein and generally less fat than cheese. You can also get protein from soy sources like tofu. And you might experiment with the huge variety of dried beans out there. Good luck!

Hey all,

I am not new to weight loss, but the concept of eating a certain amount of carbs, fat, and protein is somewhat new. I seem to have no problem getting in all the carbs, but in order to get all the protein I end up way over on fat. I have started eating more beans, which help, but I'm at a loss. Any ideas? I don't want to eat eggs for breakfast every day and other than chicken I'm not much of a meat person. I sometimes eat tuna and we probably have lean ground beef 2 or 3 times a week in our meals. Help!! Thank you emoticon ~Rachel
