Yes...you would do the jumpstart before the 29 day plan. Some people just dive into the Flat Belly Diet without doing the jumpstart. Whatever works best for you!

I have decided to do the JS on Friday!

Good luck!!!

Michelle :))

Hello EVERYONE, I bought the FBD book/pocket guide yesterday. I was wondering.....Do you have to do the Jumpstart part before you do the 29 day eating plan?? Just interested to know...(smile)

Finished 4 day jump start emoticon
The most difficult part was remembering to get everything ready for the next day. It involved breakfast, lunch and snack.

I lost 5 pounds and an inch of abdominal width.

Kess, who is very encouraged.

I know how you feel. I actually lost 40 pounds doing LA Weight loss. Its all back and then some. Bad combo of stress, eating because of the stress and just unhealthy habits. I want to stop the derailed train!
I'm starting the 4 day jump start today for the first time. I really want to stick with this. Its good to read how others had results with this plan. Its definitely reassuring I'm on the right path.

I also had alot of success with the Jump Start and the FB diet in general, but got derailed in March celebrating my 50th. Now it is summer and YUCK! I've gained all but 4 pounds back. I don't know why I let that happen either. I am starting the 4 day tomorrow and trying to get back on track.

I saw someone's signature had a wonderful quote that I am going to try to repeat when I am ready to eat that extra goody........The reason most people fail instead of succeed is that they trade what they want MOST for what they want at the MOMENT. Keeping my sights on what I want MOST....healthier and more comfortable weight and better eating habits.

I just finished the 4 day with a 6 pound weight loss. This is my 3rd try. 2008 was my first try and it worked why I didn't stick to the program . This time and I know I said this before I will not gain it back

i have around 30 lbs to lose and can imagine myself on this program all summer...it seems easy...i like the pocket guide b/c it is easy to carry it around, i always have it with me. i bought many of the foods i need for week #1 but i am def. picking and choosing what meals look more interesting to me...this morning i had the whole wheat waffles with the apple and walnut and agave nectar...this was yummy! next week going back to work i can switch back to the cream of wheat if i need to...
tell me more about you guys!!! i need a team i can relate to that will keep me on track with the FBD... emoticon

Hi all! I'm new - just finished the 4-day jumpstart; lost 4.6 lbs, and 3.5 inches off my waist. It wasn't easy, by do-able. I omitted the flax seed, but followed it very closely otherwise. I liked the Sassy water, but had trouble with all those sunflower seeds! I am now wondering about the 1/4 cup amount at breakfast, since others have asked.

I am skeptical that both the book and pocket guide would have misprints, though... despite being challenging, I ate the full 1/4 cup of sunflower seeds for all 4 breakfasts. The menu for the whole day is about 1200 calories, but they're not divided evenly at 300 calories each, like the meals are (at 400) in the regular diet. With the 1/4 cup seeds, the first day added up to 1166, according to my calculations, so I'm thinking maybe it's correct??!?

I was hungry, but I learned a lot, and I think it's easier now to eat less, like I should be doing. I'm not sure if I'll stick with the 28-day plan (esp. with a vacation thrown in), but so far I'm on track for day 1. I don't have the ingredients for their meal suggestions, so am crafting my own. With my SP experience, I think I can build good meals. Even though I was tired of washing my blender each night, I did have a smoothie for snack! Yogurt, a little milk, frozen blueberries, frozen strawberries - yum. I'm feeling better and hope to keep the momentum!

Hi everyone. I started the JS yesterday. I think the pocket guide has a typo as some others on here have posted. It says to eat a 1/4 cup of sunflower seeds. I could barely get them down. Today I decided to do 2 TB instead. I also added the foods here on SP and it was way over the 300 calories the book says each meal should be so that is how I knew 1/4 cup was wrong. I had a hard time eating all the grape tomatoes. I did as many as I could and later when I was hungry I ate the rest as a snack. I managed to get thru the day not too hungry and at bedtime I was starving but just resisted. the hunger pangs and went to bed. I even resisted key lime pie that was for my hubby's bd last night. I don't mind the water too much. It is a pain to make but I used a madoline (slicer) and that makes it easier. Grating the ginger is a pain and I'm running out of mint leaves from my garden. Anyhow, I want to give it the full 4 days and see what happens. I actually felt more bloated yesterday but maybe it was from all the water I was not used to drinking. I did run to the bathroom non-stop. I have a weak bladder and drinking so much water is torture for me. Anyhow, so far so good. I am on Day 2 and can't wait to finish this and see how I feel. I've already lost 20 lbs. and currently work out a lot doing all the Jillian Michaels DVDs but the scale stopped moving and so I figured I needed a "jump start" to get the rest of my weight off and get to goal. Anyhow, looking forward to this journey with you and hopefully we can all encourage each other thru these 4 days and also the rest of the program. I'm looking forward to the 1,600 calories and the dark chocolate.

I've done alli in the past and so it's weird for me to be eating fat on purpose although I realize it's the good fat so I'm very curious to see what it does to my body and how it affects me.

Linda

Don't forget.... if you're really hungry on the jumpstart, you have a free pass to eat all the cucumbers out of the sassy water.

I like cucumber salad so this helped me out a couple of times in the past.

starting the 4-day JS tomorrow and hoping i will not feel incredibly hungry and ready to eat the table by the time the day is over...everyone's posts here are very helpful. i am another candidate that is not willing to tolerate the gripping caffeine withdrawal headaches and will risk slower weight loss b/c i need the java. i drink tons of water every day...usually over 66 oz of water per day so i am not terribly concerned about the water in-take. i hope i can make it through and feel ok too!!! can not wait to post results!

ARGH!! I have to come clean....didn't make it. :-( Moved my daughter home from college and it was bad timing as far as needing to eat out, off schedule, etc... The upside is that I got some extra exercise. Will get back on track when life gets more "normal". but will start back with tracking food tomorrow. That will keep my calorie intake "grounded" at least. Good day to all!

Made it through Day 1! That is always the hardest day for me. Once I make it through that I usually can keep up the other 3 days.

Leaffan...good luck with your 4day. Let me know how it goes. I don't think the Cheerios will matter too much although they may have more sugar in them than the Cornflakes?? I think this way of eating takes a while to figure out, but once you have a couple of "go to" meals and snacks then you can slowly add a new one in every now and again. Best wishes!

I am also going to do the "The Four Day Jumpstart" again. Since I had lost the 3.8 lbs about a month ago I have gained 1 lb back but I did not continue on The Flat Belly Diet. This time I will do my best to continue into the 28 day program.

As for the coffee, I did drink the coffee but decreased my amount so I could drink more water. I do not think it made much of a difference and I am afraid I would have terrible headaches from caffeine withdrawals since I drink about six cups a day. That is a good idea in regards to using the milk that I put in my cereal.

As for the cheerios multi-grain cereal, I personally wouldn't think that would make too much of a difference especially if it's close to the same amount of calories as the cornflakes. (sorry, I didn't reply sooner, been away for a bit)

Since giving myself some "wiggle room" in March for 50th b-day celebrations I just haven't been able to fully get back on track. I'm starting the 4 day again today.

My resposes to posts are late, but.....I have made the smoothies ahead of time and they keep fine until the afternoon in the refrigerator. Sometimes I have put them in the freezer when I get to work and take them out about and hour before I'm ready to drink.

AS for the coffee....I usually don't have the coffee on the 4 Day,but did get terrible headaches the last time. I have cut back on my coffee since then choosing to drink decaf about half the time. I'll see how I feel. If you need coffee, I have heard it doesn't make a big difference if you drink it. I would just use some of the milk for your cereal in the coffee or use water in the smoothie and use that milk allowance.

I was planning on starting the FBD tomorrow with the JS; however, I just realized that I have to get through Mother's Day lunch with family first! LOL! I kind of hate starting on Monday morning. I was wondering if you can substitute a different cereal? I seriously do not like corn flakes or rice krispies. I usually eat MultiGrain Cheerios daily.

I'm tired of living on the sidelines...I'm ready to get into the race!!!!!

I too was a heavy coffee drinker--one pot a day--and actually survived the 4 day jumpstart. For any plan to work you have to be able to live with it. I no longer have carbonated drinks and I'm down to 3 cups a day. That's what I can live with long term.

I attempted the 4 day jumpstart...midway through day 2 or 3 I had MAJOR caffiene withdrawal (I typically have 1 to 2 cups of coffee a day). Became sick as a dog...so I had coffee that night and the next day I started the regular diet and have been loving it ever since! But because of the experience I have NO desire to ever drink sassy water again!

Good morning,

I am so excited because I have completed the four day Jumpstart and have followed the food plan as described in the book but I did (I have to admit) have a couple cups of coffee a day (with milk only). This morning I have lost 3.8 lbs and 2 inches from hips and waist. Woohoo!! If I have to honest with myself, the last four days have not been that bad but I did miss drinking my diet pepsi and I did not workout at all because I was afraid to eat everything in sight since a good workout gives you a hearty appetite. emoticon

I have done the jump start quite a few times. I sort of use it as a quicky weight dump. I love it though. and I can tell you I am an avid coffee drinker. I have had 3 cups a day since I was about 12 years old and all but the first time I have quit the coffee each jump start. It is worth it. absolutely worth it.

It's not about getting what you want, it's about wanting what you got.

I have done this diet twice before and it's great. The first time I lost 9 pounds during jumpstart and than gained 3 back when I went I started the regularly part. I did it for 2 months and lost 29 pounds. I just started back today and it was hard trying to start jumpstart over agin.

Maybe you could work on a compromise and just limit your coffee rather than stop it entirely.

I know that buried in these boards are some coffee discussions... but don't remember where. The cliff notes are that there are a few coffeeaholics that have done the jumpstart without totally cutting coffee and they thought it went okay for them.
Compromise is a good route too so that you avoid that caffeine withdrawal headache from trying to go cold turkey.

I haven't gone thru every post yet for the 4 Day Jumpstart but one concern I have is my coffee. I drink it with only milk but from what I understand coffee is not allowed on the first four days? Am I right? I hope not because I work night shift and coffee is my savior during the night but if it's not allowed and I can lose this belly fat than I am willing sacrifice my coffee :(

Does anyone know can you make the smoothies ahead of time and refrigerate? I work FT, so I don't have access to a blender during the day.

Hi all! I started the anti bloat on Monday, so I am on day 4--not completely done but I decided to weigh in because I am impatient. And I have lost 5lbs! That is encouraging!! I did make a few changes, I hate carrots so I didn't have those and I didn't have the flax oil, because I couldn't find it anywhere. I also used a little black pepper. I can live w/o salt, but not pepper. And I also did use just a wee bit of splenda in my cream of wheat, cereal and my smooties because, well blech to cream of wheat without the sweet! And I hate milk and needed to cover the taste with more than fruit. I can't imagine what my loss would have been had I followed it exactly.
I'm excited!AND very happy to be almost done with this 4 day ordeal emoticon

Per Jumpstart rules:
- absolutely no salt.
- do not use the following spices/condiments:
black pepper, hot sauces, onions, garlic, mustard, horeseradish, ketchup, tomato sauce, nutmeg, cloves, chili powder, cayenne, and other strong/stimulative items.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~
There are a few items that are allowed as seasonings:
- aged balsamic vinegar (but not other vinegars)
- salt-free seasoning blends (like Mrs.Dash)
- fresh or dried basil, mint, ginger, bay leaf, dill, paprika, rosemary, tarragon, thyme, marjoram, oregano, italian seasoning (as long as it has no salts),
and there may be a couple others that I'm not remembering.

I am on day two of the jumpstart. I am a sweet aholic so I did have some chocolate. I didn't drink the smoothie yesterday. I don't drink much milk. I am doing the cereal and tomorrow will try the smoothie. Is there anyway I can use yogurt instead. I don't eat much of that either but my stomach could sure use it right now. Before I even started the jumpstart I was having trouble going #2 in the bathroom. I have taken a couple of miralax and still no go. I am going for one more tonight .I have had this problem many times.
Anyway I don't much like mushrooms but I did eat them. Is there any kind of spices I can use on the food or even salt and pepper?

Hi every one,
This is a first for me. The FBD & bloging if this is what I am doing. Any way, I did weight 308 Lbs. Then I found the FBD! I started 3/7/10. Started the jump start and wow!
I did everything by the book and I love the sassy water. I run out and have to make more.
Ok I did weight 308, by the end of the jump start I weighted 299! I couldn’t believe it. Then this morning I weighed and weight 295! As excited about the weight and the measurement, I am way more excited about how I feel. I didn’t realize how bad I felt. I feel better than I have in years. And didn’t know I felt bad before the diet. I feel like I could go running, I don’t run never have, but I feel I could!
I got the cook book and there is wonderful recipes in there and more info on making up you meals and a 14 day menu if you want that. My Husband just started the FLAT BELLY DIET FOR MEN 3/14/10 and it is different then my FBD book he gets more cals and different jump meals, so that is challenging! He weights 420 something. He also has high blood pressure and cholesterol and is taking 4 pills a day for diabetes. So I hope it works as well for him! We have a double Dr. appt. in April, will our doc be surprised! Thanks to skipside! Taking the rind off my lemon was really the different for me and the water! Taste great after I started to do that.

I'm starting the jump start tomorrow! I'm adjusting it to be vegetarian, though. :-)

Note on Sassy water:

I've noted in the past making other beverages that included citrus fruit slices (lemons, limes, or oranges) that if I planned to store beverages for very long, I needed to make sure that I removed the peels. Within 4-6 hour range, beverage tasted fine. At 12 hours more or less, beverages started getting strange tang. This didn't happen if I'd removed the peels.

With Sassy water, I've learned that I must make sure I've removed absolutely every hint of the peel from the cucumber. Even the slightest hint of green and the water quickly turns bad tasting (ie, by morning it was horrible -- but I drank it anyway as is just my sick little way of insuring I never forget and make mistake again. A tradition that dates back to when I was just starting out on my own and was poorer than dirt.) Boy was I glad when that day ended! emoticon

Day two of jump start. Yesterday went fairly well, but I was so hungry when I went to bed. Today I decided to eat the fruit and half the sunflower seeds before my workout and the rest of breakfast after. I may also save the snack for after dinner. Hopefully that will help.

I am on Day three of the jump start and am feeling so good. The sassy water is good, but I find if I make it at night and remove the cucumbers, lemons, and mint in the morning, the water taste great. I just ordered the Cookbook so I am looking forward to trying out some of the receipes. Good luck to everyone and have a blessed day.

Hi HTHRCARR24, I didn't like it w/cucumbers in it so I left them out. Most of the days, I drank my water plain. Maybe you could try leaving out the lemons, since you don't like them. I still lost wt doing it that way. Good luck!

emoticon , JILLLYNN5555, on your 5.5 lb loss! Keep up the great effort you are doing!

Clothedinwhite, it's ok to fall off the wagon occasionally, just get back on as soon as possible.

Thanks for the info, Laporte.

Ok, starting over again! Had a birthday interfere, and then it was downhill from there! I haven't gained any and haven't lost any either. I started the day out doing day 1, but forgot that school was providing a turkey sandwich boxed lunch from Jason's. I ate the whole thing. Could have been worse and I have been careful since then. Oh well, tomorrow is a new day!

LMABRY....If you have dinner plans with friends on day 1 of the JumpStart, just start tomorrow instead and enjoy your dinner! It's too hard to dine out AT ALL during the 4 day JumpStart. It's hard enough on the Flat Belly Diet to dine out, so do yourself a favor and just start tomorrow for better success! Good luck! emoticon
