Do you have positive or negative people around you?

I don't have many friends and my family is not always around but the little I do have are negative. I try to get many of my friends to change and try to get them involved in walk a thons and such but they seem to not be that interested. If I didn't have sparkpeople I don't know where I would be now.

That's a great attitude Perserverance4. I am still trying to make the right choices even though I lost some weight I think I am losing momentum. I keep making the same excuses. So I am trying my best to get it right once and for all. Keep up the good work.

I made my goal (yay!). The thing that prevented me from achieving my goal in the past though, was to permit myself to make excuses for not eating right or exercising. Once I got serious about it, I refused to allow excuses to halt or slow my progress. I discovered that I felt so much better, physically, mentally & emotionally when I exercise & eat right, that making excuses to not do it became blatantly self-harming, so I knocked it off. I'm so grateful I came to that realization - it changed my life.

I take a very long, very relaxing bath. If I'm feeling particularly stressed, I also use bath salts, candles, and quiet music to help sooth me.

Motivational QOTD 8/25/10

Work, children, husbands, friends, family, exercising and just plain old life itself. These are things we all get caught up in a merrygoround and can't wait for it to stop.

What do you do or where do you go for relaxation and just giving yourself a time out and if you are the one that is getting ready to tell me you don't have time because..... MAKE TIME!! or just tell us what you would like to do?

I read Prevention and Fitness... though I've been struggling a lot for motivation recently. I should renew those subscriptions and see if that helps.

My goal for the month of August is to get back on track. I left the country for two weeks for vacation at the end of July. While I got LOTS of exercise (mostly walking everywhere) while we were out there, I got completely out of the habit of logging my food and my regular exercise routine. I haven't gained any weight back yet, but if I can't get myself on track now that I'm home, I'm sure I WILL eventually.

I would like to lose a few more pounds and I am thinking of bumping my walks up to 3 miles. I started at 1 mile and then went to 1.5, then to 2, and now I do about 2.5. I am hoping by the beginning of September to do that. It's been so hot here lately! I usually walk in the evenings so it's not as bad, but it has to be on days my hubby is off so he can be with the kids. We all went on a short walk last night (1 mile) and took our dog. She is old and arthritic and can't go much farther than that.

Eight weeks ago my boyfriend fell on me during a soccer game and badly sprained my foot. I haven't been exercising much since then and gained back all of the weight I had lost. The month of July I was living out of a car and camping in national parks a lot. I did get some hiking in, but my foot still hurt, so not much.

SOOO...Now that my foot no longer hurts, I would like to get back on track with regular exercising, especially jogging. I have started with some very easy weight exercises, but I haven't been jogging yet. The heat makes me want to procrastinate, but no longer!!!

I would agree with that also. While I've had success losing weight on my own I lose more weight (and more quickly) when in a weight loss group (such as Weight Watchers).

What do you think?

It's hard for me to make that sort of statement for this month, as I'm going to be spending half of it out of the country. Traveling is never an easy time when it comes to 'staying on track.' But I pledge to NOT put aside my goals while I'm away.

I pledge to do my best to get in at least one daily walk or hike each day that I'm away and not 'in transit' (i.e. on a plane or train for the day.) I also pledge to make the best choices I can nutritionally while still leaving myself open to trying local 'delicacies' as it were.

Until we leave, though, I WILL begin my C25K training attempt (to be resumed upon our return.) Wish me luck!

I didn't push myself as hard as I wanted to last month but it's a new month and with time just sailing past like the wind we have to make it happen. This month let's pledge to put some extra time and effort into exercising and eating healthy and of course getting outdoors. What will you do this month to make it better than last month?

I feel good when at the end of a work day and I get home and see the smile on my daughters face because she's happy to see me and when its time to sleep I get to snuggle beside my handsome DH.

I feel good when I accomplish all the goals I've set for myself in a day. And I try hard to remember that feeling for that extra boost of motivation on days when I just feel like giving up.

(I also feel good when I get home from work, open the door, and get tackled by my hyperactive puppy who wants to say 'hello'... and then get enfolded in a huge hug from my DH. People (and pets) happy to see me always makes my day.)

I think weighing in once a week is enough, and maybe we shouldn't be stressing over a pound or two if it can be just water retention. Just keep on looking at the overall healthy feeling of knowing you are doing good, and the weight is coming off gradually.

I had a day exactly like that yesterday. Sunday I'd had a GREAT weigh-in day... lowest weight yet. Then I did my strength training and my 30 minutes of intense cardio as planned. I stayed in all my nutritional ranges and was even on the low end of my calorie intake. Then, Monday when I checked the scale, it registered me as being 2.5 lbs HEAVIER than the day before! I ended up being grumpy for half the day because of that... today the weight was gone again. It took a SparkFriend reminding me that I may have retained water due to muscle exertion during strength training to remind me that it'll all be ok as long as I keep moving!

Trying to eat right and exercise can become very stressful and sometimes it feels like nothing is happening. How did I gain a pound? I have been doing everything right. Don't let it get you down because with determination comes progress. It may take a little longer after some time but you must stay focus.

Have you ever felt this way? What are your thoughts?

My reason was the same because my doctor told me my knees were aching because of the extra weight. They feel much better now that I have loss SOME weight. I also wanted to do it because I didn't feel good about myself and my body. I was not overweight all my life I was at my biggest when I hit my 30's. I am so happy I am on the right track now.

pain in all my joints made me take weightloss seriously and I found this site on my own then. Talk about good timing, I may not have taken this seriously a while back. And two days ago I spraned my ankle and missed out on a great hike. My husband had to go by himself, I felt so left out and sorry for myself. But he'll do it again when I'm able. I hate setbacks like this.

Sometimes we have to reflect back to where we came from in order to push ourselves a little further to want to make it to our goal.

When did you notice your weight gain and what made you decide to do something about it?

I haven't had to purchase new clothes due to weightloss yet... but if I do, I'll probably hang on to my old clothes for a couple weeks, just to make sure I can keep up the forward momentum!

Did you have to buy new clothes for the summer because you lost weight? Did you get rid of the old ones or are you keeping them just in case you gain the weight back?

I guess I don't really focus on an area, either... tho my legs get the most workout by far, since my chosen forms of exercise tend to be either walking or hiking (with full-body strength training every other day or so)...

My thighs and stomach are my focus. Some areas just need more attention than others but eventually I'll work on other areas doing cardio.

I've not really thought about. Maybe that's part of my problem. I don't really concentrate on a certain area. I just kind of try to do everything.

I love this idea!! Everybody deserves it. On your birthday a lot of times you're doing things with family or friends. What a terrific idea. It gives you the opportunity to celebrate what you have achieved. Thank you.

My husband and kids. I had a very chaotic life growing up and now I have a stable life. I am very fortunate to have such a great guy who is also a great father.

If I had to say something about my own self, I'd say that I am a hard worker and responsible. I appreciate everything I have.

my family, especially my husband. And all my lovely, lovely animals. Me personally, I would say my attitude of forgiveness, love and second, third, ect chances for myself and others. My husband once said to me hating someone and unforgiveness is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. Life is to short to hate others or yourself.

Making time for yourself is the best way to stay stress free and to focus on your priorities. Sometimes you feel like your on a merrygo round. You want to please everybody but in reality you can't please everybody all the time. I had to learn that myself. I have a special day that I made for my self and it's called Me Day and it's on July 10th it was july 9th but that's my moms birthday. This is the day I celebrate me. I wanted a day that didn't have to do with my birthday or any other holiday because it just doesn't turn out the way I want it. So my Me Day is for me to be alone and treat myself to whatever I enjoy and because I work hard to live a healthy lifestyle. So I say thank you and I give myself a pat on the back for my accomplishments.

In a nutshell just make time for you because you are special and you deserve it. emoticon emoticon

It is difficult to make time for myself. I've always been there for everyone else and now its time for me! I work in an all male industry (in Oklahoma anyway) and time for myself is through my Mary Kay and Tupperware businesses. It gives me time to ponder as I'm driving to parties/appointments and I use that time also to listen to motivational CDs. At home I don't get alot of time for myself so I try to take a hot bath at least once a week.

I rarely get time to myself since I have 2 small kids. One is in kindergarten and the other is 3, so I am with my kids all day. I use my daughter's nap time to work out. My free time is after they're in bed at night. Life sure would be easier and less stressful if people would watch both our kids at the same time. Their grandmother will only ever watch one at a time. She says it's too much for her, even though she is not old and frail. She's in her 50s. So, I'd love more free time. :)

HJLOCKHART - I can agree with you there.

I also had a horrible weekend of eating and I have fallen off plenty of times but with strenght to want to keep this up I have to pick up the tools every chance I get. We may not want the set back but it happens because we are human. We need to stay true to ourselves and keep on the journey to great success.

Thank you ladies for commenting.

How do I stay motivated? Knowing this is the only way, for my health and well being I just can't give up. Exercise and eating right has given me less pain and so much more energy, confidence and strength to deal with all of lifes other stresses. I don't want to fall down the rabbit hole, ever. So even an off day like today, will not set me off my coarse to great health. We have the tools, we just have to pick them up and use them.

My greatest accomplishment was getting out of a very bad relationship and into a great one!! I would love to say it was my weight loss but I'm stuck this week since I'm not able to do any cardio. Another week and I should be out of the splint and ready to go!!

I think it would have to be me. I am a perfectionist and if something doesn't look just right ( like clothes or hair) I'm critical of it. I'm trying to get over that and try to not be so hard on myself.

I hope to get quite a bit accomplished. I want to work up to 60 minutes of cardio a day. I need to get the yard cleaned up and mowed. I would love to go fishing at least one night but that will be weather permitting.

Using a smaller plate is the best way to monitor your portion size. Using measuring cups and weighing food is another good way too.
