I'm soooo happy the holidays are over and actually looking forward to getting back on track!

But I did want to say thank you for the challenge ladies and gentlemen. I didn't reach my weight goal but I definitely maintained and, at the end of the day, that's just as important.

Cheers to happy, healthy and successful 2012!!

I've been quite sick and haven't been able to get out to run (which has me really bummed), but I did lose around 4 pounds. I'm trying not to get too excited about it though because it's probably all due to having a stuffy nose and not being able to taste anything...which means loss of appetite. Hopefully I can kick this sickness soon!

Well, I can't say that i've been tracking properly for the last week. I did quickly step on the scales on christmas day and they said 142lbs which is fine, no gain or loss. Yesterday was what i'd call my 'blowout' day as we had dinner at my mother-in-law's house and it was three courses. I've been pretty good the rest of the time.

Hope everyone had a good christmas and I wish everyone a very happy new year!

Doing OK.... but I haven't realy exercised this week either, unless you count walking the dog, and sewing.... Christmas is here.... still logging my food and will next week too.

Hope to lose this weight during 2012! I think I started my journey on here in 2009. 2012 will mark 3 years of strugging with a journey I know I can win. I need to win.

Over and out. MERRY CHRISTMAS, HAPPY NEW YEAR, HAPPY Chaunaka too! *Sorry if I have mispelled anything*. :)

I should be hiding my head in shame because I haven't exercised this week and probably won't next week either. Christmas has really taken hold but i'm keeping my food tracked and staying in my ranges. I'm keeping all sweets and biscuits out of my eyeline and only allowing myself a couple each night if I have the room in my calorie range for it.

I can't tell if its damaged my weight until Saturday, but I did drop back down to 142lbs last Saturday so if I can just stay there that would be great.

I hope everyone else is doing ok. emoticon

Im so glad you brought that up because I have really been struggling with this challenge. I was doing really well for a while and lost a few pounds, but I am currently having such a hard time with what I eat and fighting off some of the bad cravings emoticon

I'm going to keep my focusing on working out and staying committed and hopefully get through this tempting holiday season!

Hope everyone is doing well!!!!

I have been avoiding the scale for the past few weeks because I had a rough start to the challenge. But, I weighed in today and I am down 3 lbs...and I learned a huge lesson!

Sometimes, the other goals that we commit ourselves to at the beginning of the challenge are just as important as our goal weight...tracking everyday, exercising 3-4 times a week, etc.

I know that I was gaining at the beginning of the challenge, which is why I avoided the scale, but I did stick to my workout routine and focused on tracking no matter what I ate. And, it did the trick. So if you are struggling to stay focused on what you eat this time of year, shift your focus to tracking and the gym and you just might lose too. Good Luck!

I just wanted to drop in to be accountable. I've been tracking my food at least 6 out of 7 days of the week so far in December. Since the beginning of December I'm down almost 2 lbs (143 to 141.2 lbs).

I've been keeping up with 3-4 workouts a week which has been the most exciting for me.

I'll be leaving to Dallas & San Anton to see my in-laws this Wednesday and I won't be back until next Tuesday. And I'm not gonna lie - my goal is to just maintain if anything during my trip. We all know how good the cookin is down there! My focus areas are to maintain physical activity while I'm down there and eat in moderation. I will still be tracking!

Hope everyone's doing well!!

I was doing oh so well this month! I was losing for the first week and had increased my exercise activities but then i started to gain. Oddly enough, at a sporting tournament I sprained my ankle and this past week has been difficult to do anything but sit and work at a computer AND thats when i get back into range! So i'm on track and feeling good. Just gotta make it past the Christmas visiting and all those sweets!

Happy holidays everyone!!

Wow - thank you so much everyone, your support means a lot to me. I've just discovered some great apps for my phone that are daily 10 minute workouts and focus on different areas like cardio, abs, legs etc. which means that I don't have to mess around all the time putting DVD's or games into a machine. Doing a couple of these every other day saves me a lot of time and I also found a Yoga app that targets the back - which I really need cos my back is always aching if I stand up for too long or sit in certain positions for long periods of time.

Plus, i'm sooooo looking forward to christmas! My girls are getting excited about Santa coming and I'm looking forward to all my presents as well! (I know what i've got but i'm just so excited to finally be able to use all of it!)

Thank you loads to everyone, good luck for the rest of the challenge! emoticon

JILLIAN, I really like that response! I think we've all been through it, we voice our goals and others (especially family members) don't understand or their little comments deter us. But it really is because they care and they love us and want us to love ourselves. So many people think that people diet because they're unhappy, which may be true of some, but what family and friends fail to realize is we're doing it BECAUSE we love ourselves and because it makes us feel good. We're here for you, keep your head up and good luck with the rest of the challenge! (That goes for everybody) emoticon

I use this one all the time and it works 9 out of 10 times. "It's not about dieting. I'm focused on leading a healthier lifestyle." This way, if someone comments on your healthy meal, it doesn't look like you are ordering it to make them feel bad or make yourself look good. You're simply focused on being healthier and not many will argue with that. Plus, its a polite way of saying that it's an important attitude to have and hopefully, it will rub off on the other person.

For that 1 in 10 times - when the person really doesn't let it go - I think it really depends on how much that person means to you. For those I really love, I usually save my "cheat" meals for times when I know we will be together. This way, the conversation never comes up. If you are strong willed enough to order something healthy when everyone around you if eating junk, then you can definitely rework your week or month to accommodate that person in your life. Stay Strong!

I totally agree with ARRICCIUTI1... it is really hard (especially around the holidays) for family members to be supportive sometimes. The hardest part for me is making good choices at restaurants when other people are really overweight and I don't (comparatively) have that much to lose. Even when they don't say anything, I get the feeling that they think I'm being vain or even mean to them (everyone orders huge breakfast samplers and I order scrambled egg whites and toast or something). I saw a good idea in a magazine recently, though (I can't remember where it was now!!) with ready responses to people pressuring you to eat more, especially holiday food. The one I remember is, "I have to save room for your fabulous Christmas dinner cooking!"

And support for working out is really an ongoing thing. Sometimes I tell my husband in the morning, "I'm going to come home from work and really not want to work out, but I do want to. Will you tell me to work out when I get home?" It doesn't always work, but even saying it out loud like that in the morning sometimes helps me. Sorry for writing so much, but I can really empathize with what you're going through. We're here for you!!

I think it's easier to gain support from friends and family when you have a lot of weight to lose than when you're only a little over weight because it's easier to see how unhealthy you've become. I feel like maybe your family is indifferent to you losing weight and becoming healthier because to them you're already perfect the way you are. It can be really difficult to achieve your goals when the people you care about most aren't as encouraging as you want them to be, but with self motivation and help from all your friends at spark people I'm sure you can do anything you want. This time of year can be especially difficult when you're trying to lose weight so don't be too hard on yourself. Just stay positive, do your best to stay on track, and know that we're all rooting for you.

Weighed in this morning - I gained 2 lbs. I know exactly why its happened as well. Lack of exercise, eating too much and the wrong things. It's so difficult to stay motivated when everyone around me is so indifferent to everything. I say to my husband on some occasions 'I really don't feel like exercising today' and he just says 'well don't then'. No encouragement, nothing, and I start to think what's the point? Other members of my family say to me 'you're fading away!' - I hate it when people make me feel guilty for wanting to lose some weight and get healthier. Plus i'm not 'fading away' - I have a waist measurement of 36 inches for goodness' sake!

Anyway, i'm not happy this week (can you tell?) and I need to reign myself in before I gain anymore weight.

So I took a lot of people's advice and took my time getting back into working out...finally made it back to yoga yesterday afternoon!! Felt AMAZING while I was there and today I am sore sore sore. Not really painful sore, just the sore you get after a great workout- I'm pretty excited to be able to move again emoticon

I've been focusing on staying within my calorie range-went over on Wednesday a little bit, but overall I am feeling pretty good. Will weigh myself on Sunday, so we'll see how it goes!

Hope everyone had a good week and is feeling great about this challenge- happy Friday!

really really bad.
that's the only way I can describe my situation this morning.
I lost it for a couple of days, sat at home and stuffed my face like there was no tomorrow. Literally ate and ate and ate and ate.
And so unsurprisingly I've gained weight this week - to the point where I've never weighed this much.
It seems so simple written out like that - cause and effect.
But I just can't seem to get a grip on that motivation, that inspiration, the ENERGY I need to push me forward.
sigh.
So my new December goal is to get back to where I started the month. And to pull myself together.

hi internet! i do some acrobatic stuff where the lighter you are, the easier it is and the more people want to work with you -- so i've gotta get rid of the fat! i'm also going on a bathing-suit-y trip in a few weeks. i started at 135 and i lost 5 pounds last week -- but after being super good and tracking every damn calorie, going on huge hikes, blah blah, i managed to gain back half a pound in the last two days. is that rapid loss at the beginning something that i should say goodbye to for the rest of my weight-loss time? why did i gain weight? agh!
goal: i'm hoping to lost another 5 lbs by the end of december, at least!
good luck to everyone...

I was really nervous about weighing in today because I haven't been tracking what I eat, but it seems like I'm doing ok. I lost 2 pounds! I tried tracking what I ate before and wasn't very successful; it made me think way to much about what I was eating and became more stressful than helpful. I know what's healthy and what's not so for the past couple of weeks I've been trying to eat healthy during the week and I allow myself two reasonably portioned desserts on the weekend (one for each day). I also think signing up for classes at the gym has helped. The classes help keep me motivated during my work out and help me stick to going to the gym three days a week. If you're having trouble sticking to your gym schedule, I highly recommend trying this, it clearly works. Hope I hear good news from the rest of you soon! Stay strong, the holiday temptations will be over before you know it :)

Today is my weigh in day and I did not lose or gain. I have a feeling that is due to my weekend full of overeating and my trip to the gym yesterday. I did the circuit and those weight machines always push me. Muscles retain water so I am not concerned.

I have been eating within range except for my DH's birthday on Saturday night. I had to splurge and get some pasta. We passed on dessert, so that is a plus!

Next week is my NYC trip, so I need to remain focused.

Hey Allison, thanks so much! Feeling a lot better today and hoping to maybe maybe get back on the elliptical this afternoon for some low impact exercise! Congrats on registering for your marathon! My best friend just ran the Chicago marathon in October-you guys are so inspiring, I couldn't even imagine!

As for the challenge-on track with calories today, but I'm finding that I'm not always fulfilling my daily fat/carb/protein goals every day-does this happen to anyone else? Just wondering how much of an impact it's really having on my weight loss...

Hey everyone! I gained a few pounds back after the last challenge but I'm hoping to have a great month. I signed up to do a marathon in May but I couldn't wait that long so I signed up to do my first official marathon with a childhood friend in February. Having it be that close will keep me motivated I'm sure!

Good luck Spark People!

I got fed up of my Fitness Coach on the Wii last night, so put in the 30 Day Shred for the first time in a couple of months. All I can say is WOAH! It was tough! I've done the Shred twice in the last 6 months and now I realise how hard it works you if you haven't done it for a while!

Very achy today.

Ok I know I'm a little late in the game but I'd still like to join this challenge! My starting weight was 138; I just started dieting less than a week ago, but according to the scale I'm already down to 135. Is it common to lose weight that quickly in the beginning? Anyway, I'd like to be somewhere around 128 by the end of the month.
I've already been tracking pretty steadily. As far as exercise goes...haha not so much. BUT doing this challenge has already inspired me, and as soon as I get off the internet, I plan to get up off my butt :)

I tracked all of my food for today and I'm sticking to it! If I can stay with the plan, it would be a perfect day of eating - within ALL of my ranges. :) Happy Monday, everyone!

Hey guys!
Ive been really slacking lately. I got into a pretty bad car accident about a week and a half ago and haven't been able to move much or gym at all. I think that all of the frustration has somehow allowed me to think that my eating can slip as well! I'm finally starting to feel better and I've gotten the OK from the doctors to start stretching/walking, and hopefully I'll be back to running and working out within another week and a half! But I definitely need to get my eating back under control (no more oreos emoticon ) I'm hoping to get back on track this week and really finish strong in December. I know that the holidays can be such a hard time for everyone because food and sweets are so central to holiday parties and family get togethers. I'm looking forward to seeing how we all do this month! :)

TAINTEDLOVE, we've all been there! I'm glad you talked it out, that always makes me feel better. I wasn't especially happy with my eating today, but what's important is that I did track all of it and kept my fitness plans! Sometimes you just have to focus on the positives and it sounds like you have a good plan for this week! Good luck!!

I'm on track to meet my challenge goals for December Week 1 -- can't wait to see how everyone else is doing!

I'm freaking out a little bit right now and I need to rant because I've started off December so poorly! Even though I've only gained back 2 pounds this last couple two weeks, I feel like the weight gained more weight!
Before I started working full-time, I was able to go to the gym at least 4 to 5 times a week. But since October, I started working, and I have 2 jobs now so I am working 7 days a week. Probably 3 weeks ago was when I started to feel too exhausted to go work out after a long day of work. I've been fine with sticking to my healthy eating habits until this weekend.

On Friday, my friend from out of town and I went to a concert that got out late and we decided to go eat out after at 1 a.m. My excuse was that she wasn't even staying for 24 hours and that was the only time we'd be able to fit in a food adventure (where she's from, there's no variety in ethnic cuisine). I ordered the kimchi udon noodle soup not knowing how big the bowl was going to be. I WAS hungry, but I made sure that I did not force myself to finish the giant bowl.
And the next self-sabotage was last night when I was working the closing shift at Macys. My coworkers and I were talking about how cold it was and how we were hungry because we hadn't gotten a chance to eat dinner yet. Then I mentioned how Pho (vietnamese noodle soup) sounds so good at that time and that there's a 24hr pho restaurant close to our work. At first, we thought we'd each just order a bowl of pho because they only take cash and we didn't have much on us. But when we got there and found out they take credit cards, we decided to each share egg rolls and spring rolls in addition to our Pho (each order only had 2 pieces, so that was good I suppose).

Few weeks ago when I weighed myself, I was so happy that I've reached my goal of 150 pounds and I plan on losing another 5 to 10 pounds. But this morning I weighed myself and I am at 152. I know it's only 2 pounds and it could just be gas, water, food, whatever. But my body just feels like it has taken 5 giant steps back.

Now I know for sure that late night meals can really do a lot of damage. I was surprised that this sabotaged me more than eating on Thanksgiving.

I have a busy work and events week coming up but I hope to fit in 3 days to work out and try to go back to my healthy eating discipline.

If you read my whole rant, thank you so much. I was so surprised at the results I had after joining SparkPeople and I hope after this rant and reaching out, that I can get myself to get back on track.

Hey everyone! So, I've been AWFUL about getting exercise this week and consumed a mountain of popcorn at the movies the other day, but I'm changing my habits today! Miraculously, I am still down a few pounds at 147.9 from 151. I hope it stays off!

Yay for a challenge! This is my first team one as well. My starting weight for December was 143, goal weight for the end of December 139. I REALLY want to break out of the 140s so that my jeans will finally fit (hopefully!).

I'm going to do Jillian Michaels' 30Day Shred everyday. I'm currently on day 4.
I'm also running a 5K on December 10th, my first one.

Good luck everyone!

This is my first team challenge, but December is going to be a mine field. Family visiting, big meals, parties, and lots of sweets around as well as getting chocolate as gifts.
I've managed to really drop some lbs this semester and I want to keep them off.

SW: 160
GW: 155

The goals are : A strict ban on sugar (So no chocolates or cakes), only single helpings at family meals, perfect attendance on spark people, and get a compliment on my sexy pants!
Good luck everyone!

For the cookies- I think you should go, because it's a tradition and it would suck to miss out. What you could do is bake the cookies, and nibble a few at the party and then when you go home with the leftovers; just give them all away. You can bring them into work, or give them to your kids to bring to class, or wrap them and give them to acquaintances as presents. You get to be generous and save yourself the temptation.
Best of luck and enjoy your party!
Good luck.

This weekend I have to go to my aunt's annual cookie swap. Everyone who goes bakes 7 dozen cookies. A dozen for people to snack on at the party and then 6 dozen to disperse amongst each member of the party to take home. Then we vote on who has the best cookie, display, story, etc. I've never worried about this party before because I've never had to worry about my calorie and sugar intake, so it just dawned on me today that this is basically a party dedicated to eating lots of calories and then taking all those calories home to tempt me every night. I still want to go to see my family, but I want to go in with a game strategy so it doesn't turn into a huge disaster. Any suggestions?

I haven't ever really participated in a challenge, but I kind of like that part of this one is offering encouragement to other sparkpeople!
That's what makes it a "Team" challenge, isn't it? Because we all make these promises/goals to ourselves anyway every day and struggle to keep them on our own....
In any case, my weight today was 73 kg, and I'd love to be down to 71 by the end of December.
Good luck to everybody!!!

I'm up for the December challenge. I've been on and off of SP for about 2 years now and I would like to get back on track because I always do better while tracking on the site instead of just thinking I'm doing well. My starting weight was 214 and I would like to get below 210 by the end of this month as I'm going home to see family for the holidays. I think I can make it.

My starting weight as of today is 143 lbs. My goal weight by the end of the month is to be at 140 lbs. I'm going to San Anton to see my in-laws for the week of Christmas which basically means GOOD EATS.

I've been away from SP for the past couple of months. I didn't give up altogether, but my efforts were not consistent.

But it's nearly the end of 2011 and I am up for the challenge!!

New challenge! Last month I lost half an inch off my thighs and hips and a fraction (like a quarter of an inch) off my waist.

My starting weight this month is 142lbs. I think this month is gonna be difficult with all the christmas food and there are a lot of birthdays in my family this month so thats a lot of cake!

If I could get to 140lbs i'd be happy with that this month. Below that would be a bonus and i'm going to try my best to not gain anything!

I'm IN! I'm going to start eating a strict Paleo diet and doing a Jillian Michaels workout program throughout December. I'm going on vacation for a week this month, so hopefully I'll be able to stay disciplined through that and the holidays!

Starting at 151 lbs, my goal is 145 by 2012!

Good luck everyone! Stay strong!

I've been a member of Sparkpeople for a while, but this is my first challenge. While I want to lose during the month of December and start off 2012 at 165lbs, I also want to enjoy the holidays. For this reason, I am going to plan to lose a 1lb/week and increase my fitness to compensate for the extra calories I MIGHT intake.

This is a great challenge!!! The holidays are the most difficult, but I'm determined to push through by constant exercise. Last year I was at 127lbs, but I gained alot of weight over the summer, so I'm back at 142lbs. I hope to lose 5lbs by the end of December, but this month will be the perfect opportunity to practice eating right, especially since there will be so many temptations to eat to one's heart content! lol! I'm going to spend most of my days jogging and lifting weights. We can all do it!!! With focus and determination and daily encouragement, we will all accomplish our goals!!! Best of luck to all!!!

My starting weight is 127. I hope to be 124 by the end of December, but I'm focusing more on fitness and size goals. I'm a competitive collegiate cheerleader so fitness is very important to me. I was in the best shape of my life in April for nationals, but I spent the summer in Italy. I tried to stay in shape, but refused to sacrifice a complete Italian experience. I'm paying for that experience now, but it was definitely worth it. I know with focus, strength, and encouragement from all you great spark people users, we can all achieve our goals. Good luck everyone!

I've been loving these monthly challenges so far! October was super successful, I lost 10 lbs. In November it slowed down a bit and I only lost 3.2 lbs, but hey I'm still excited about that! This month I'd like to have another 8-10 lb loss, though, that'd be nice. :)

So for December..

I'm in! I will post all my weights and things tomorrow. If i'm still 143lbs which I think I am then my aim will be to get to 140lbs by new year.

This month is always hardest for me with all the christmas goodies that get bought. I just want to stay within my ranges and keep up the exercise as much as I can.

I need to get back into the swing of things! I'm back at square 1 at 118 pounds. I'd like to get to 115 by the end of the month (real 115, not the random 'light day' we all sometimes get). I'd like to tone up a bit around the middle sine my work pants are getting tight. And survive the holiday marathon staying within my calorie range for each holiday event!

I am starting Dec at about 158 and my goal is to be at 154 on Jan 1. That will put me at 14 lbs above my goal weight. Tracking my food 5 days a week will be a challenge for me; it's something I've struggled with, but I also know that I am more successful when I track. Good luck everyone and happy holidays!

My december goal is to lose 5 pounds, track my food at least 5 days a week and keep up the work outs 3 days a week. Really, it'd just be awesome if I'd stop going over my calorie count....a lot. emoticon

I'm about 145-146 right now and by the end of December, I'd like to be 140. I'm not setting the bar too high for myself this month because I know that I LOVE my in-laws cooking and though I'm going to try to eat well, it will not be easy over the holidays. I would be amazingly happy to be down to 140. Wish me luck, friends!!

Hi all! I am relatively new to spark people, and am just now starting to become serious about my weight loss. I believe that this will be the first challenge that I am going to participate in. How much I weigh is not as important to me as my fat percentage... but I think I will track it for now.

I suppose my overall weight goal is to be between 105-110... but really I just want to be lean, strong, and healthy. So extra weight from muscle wouldnt be too bad :)

Height: 61 inches
Weight: 130
Waist: 29

Wrist: 5.5

December goal... lose 5 pounds of fat.

Hello Everyone, Glad to be apart of the challenge, well my goal is to firstly not gain any weight which I think i'll be pretty successful because I only plan on going off diet for two days where I will maintain, my goal is to lose 10 pounds.

I cant give you a starting weight because to be honest I won't be weighing myself till after December, ill have been on diet for around 6 weeks with a few off days but i'm hoping I lost 10 pounds, yeah its odd but if I get a scale before ill constantly weigh myself and get disapointed so i'm giving my concious a break and getting a scale after december. Ill also be eating around 1300-1500 calories and excercising 5 days a week, 3 of which is cardio while 2 is ST wish me luck emoticon

My starting weight for this December challenge is 198.9 - about the same as it was the last time I weighed myself on August 30th. I need to kick it into gear if I am going to reach my mini goal weight of 179 for April 1st (next doctor visit will happen sometime in April).

Best of luck to everyone!
